September Recap: Finding Purpose Through Trials - How Endurance Builds Character and Hope

In this week’s episode, I want to touch on a few things, starting with a quick reminder to connect with me on Instagram or via email. I’d love to hear from you! If you feel led, you can also support the show by donating through the ‘Buy Me a Coffee’ link in the show notes. And as always, don’t forget to follow and leave a review—it really helps the show grow. Now, let’s recap some important topics from previous episodes, starting with one of my favorite guests, Dawn Marasco. Dawn’s story is so powerful, and in her episode, we talked about everything from her early childhood to where she is now. For the longest time, Dawn didn’t think she had anything to offer, but she discovered that her calling was to guide other women through the pain she had experienced herself. She went through unimaginable pain—she lost her first fiancé in front of her—and now, God is using that tragedy for good in her life. If you haven’t listened to that episode yet, I encourage you to check it out because her story is life-changing. She once asked, "Who would listen to me?" and now, through her testimony, she’s helping others realize that no matter what you’ve been through, God has a purpose and a plan for your life.I also talked about Romans 5:3-4 in a recent episode, where Paul writes about how trials produce endurance, endurance builds character, and character gives us hope. This is something I keep coming back to. The idea that you can’t truly pursue your calling without good character really resonates with me. Your past experiences shape who you are today, and your current circumstances will shape who you become tomorrow. The choice is yours—will you let your hardships hold you back, or will you rise and keep pushing forward toward your calling? On the life update side, I’m excited to share that Nathan Maverick has been helping me set up my new website, pursuitofcalling.com. This will be a great resource where you can find all my episodes and even sign up to receive a free gift from me! I’m really looking forward to using this site as another way to serve you all. When it comes to my health, things have been a bit rough lately. I’ve been experiencing withdrawal symptoms from stopping my antidepressant, which I was taking to help manage the neurological pain I experience. But there’s also good news—on September 23rd, I’ll be heading to the Cleveland Clinic for another opinion on my condition, and I’m hopeful they’ll provide some answers. I’d really appreciate your prayers as I go through this process. Finally, I want to share how I’ve been growing over the past month. Just the other day, I was listening to a podcast by Ed Mylett while dealing with a bad migraine, and he said something that really hit home for me: “Pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice.” In that moment, I realized I was letting myself suffer, and I made the choice to get up and do something productive. As soon as I started walking around and praying, my headache went away, which I believe is an amazing testament to God’s power.📩 Let me know your thoughts: [email protected] the podcast: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pursuit.of.callingFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pursuit.of.calling/

How Trials and Tribulations Shape Your Character and Help You Find Your Calling

In today’s episode, I want to talk about something that's been on my heart lately—suffering and how it plays a role in discovering your calling. One verse that I keep coming back to is Romans 5:3-5, which talks about how suffering produces perseverance, and that perseverance builds character, which ultimately gives us hope. If you’ve ever wondered why you go through hard times, I believe this passage offers an answer.I know life can be tough, and I’ve felt that with my own struggles, especially dealing with dystonia. Some days it feels overwhelming, but I’ve come to realize that God uses our trials to shape us, to make us stronger, and to help us grow in ways we never thought possible. Just like the grindstone sharpens the blade, suffering refines us, strengthens our character, and prepares us for our purpose. I truly believe that developing character is key to living out your calling.Think about it—when life gets tough, whether it’s physically or mentally, you want to be someone who can keep going. You want to endure. And that’s where the beauty of suffering comes in, strange as that may sound. The trials we face teach us endurance. They give us the strength to keep pushing, even when it feels impossible. In fact, it's often through these moments that God reveals our true potential and purpose.Take my journey, for example. I’ve talked a lot about my dystonia and how it’s been a massive trial in my life. But looking back, I realize how much I’ve grown because of it. Without this challenge, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I wouldn’t have the confidence, hope, or the belief that I can endure more than I ever thought possible. I wouldn’t be here talking to you through this podcast, pursuing my calling. So, I want to encourage you—think about the trials you’ve faced. We all have them. Those hardships aren’t meaningless; they are producing something in you. They are building your endurance, character, and giving you wisdom. They’re shaping you for what’s to come, helping you become someone who can walk alongside others in their struggles, or even avoid the same pitfalls altogether. At the end of the day, though, it’s a choice. We can either let our trials defeat us, or we can let them develop us. We can allow our character to grow, or we can resist it. But if we embrace the process, we’ll find ourselves closer to living out the calling that’s been set before us. It’s all about the pursuit—the pursuit of your calling.📩 Let me know your thoughts: [email protected] the podcast: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pursuit.of.callingFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pursuit.of.calling/

August Recap | Navigating Life's Journey: Joyful Pursuits, Personal Growth, and Future Aspirations

Hey everyone! Welcome to our monthly recap. I've got some exciting updates to share with you all.Let's start with a quick recap of two recent episodes. In "Staying Joyful on the Journey," I shared my experience of pursuing my calling while living with muscular dystonia. The key takeaway? Joy is an internal response to external circumstances, and our purpose persists despite challenges. We also had Cole Zimmerman on the show, discussing "Calling the Creatives" and the importance of action over mere research. On the personal front, I'm thrilled to be the best man at my friend Andrew's upcoming wedding. I'm also a proud new uncle to Isaac, born about two months ago. Health-wise, my dystonia has progressed, now affecting my face and sometimes my throat. While it presents new challenges, I remain optimistic and continue researching ways to improve my quality of life.I've experienced a surge of motivation lately, positively impacting various aspects of my life. At work, my coworker and I have been excelling thanks to new collaboration techniques. I'm also excited about launching an email list soon to provide more value to you all.Looking ahead, I'm focusing on improving productivity by getting back into using ToDoist daily and establishing a consistent wake-up time. These small changes can make a big difference!Thank you all for being on this journey with me. Don't forget to follow, review, and if you're feeling generous, there's a 'buy me a coffee' link in the show notes. Until next time, keep pursuing your calling! 📩 Let me know your thoughts: [email protected] the podcast: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pursuit.of.callingFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pursuit.of.calling/
