Michael Moore
Academy Award-winning filmmaker and political provocateur Michael Moore offers his subversive and humorous take on the issues of the day and talks to a wide range of people from comedians and politicians to the people who’ve tried to kill him. Plus various mischief with Mike’s friends, family and the neighbors who don’t work for the NSA.
Episode 227: 5G and Year Two of Joey B
It’s another one of those weeks: 5G gives you better reception but possible plane crashes, Biden trusts Trump’s Postmaster General to get us our COVID tests, and the Supreme Court blocks a federal mandate to get everyone vaccinated. Plus, the voting rights bill is on its death march.
We’re at the first anniversary of Biden’s presidency. Republicans are licking their chops. Cable news has written Biden’s obituary. They’re missing one thing - the majority of Americans don’t want a Republican anywhere near the White House. The majority want paid family leave, a living wage, free pre-K, free community college, police reform, and a serious fight to save planet Earth. And the majority wants Biden and the Dems to quit dinkin’ around and crush the party of the coup.

Episode 226: "It's Still January 6th" (with Rep. Dan Kildee D-MI)
A year ago tomorrow, outgoing President Donald Trump gave an hour-long speech to a large crowd of his most ardent and agitated supporters, encouraging them to march down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol and demand Congress "Stop the Steal" -- the "steal" in this case being the Congressional ratification of an election he lost fair and square, and an integral part of the peaceful transition of power. What followed was a violent attempted coup of the United States, one in which an essentially all-white mob stormed the Capitol building, threatening the lives of countless workers and staffers in the building, elected representatives from every state in the union, and even the Vice President who ran alongside Trump on his losing ticket.
This grim day of white terror was brought about by months of President Trump egging his supporters on with baseless claims of a fraudulent election, all while his own party worked tirelessly to continue to erode voting rights across the country. But unfortunately, this trend of white right-wing violence in America far predates Trump.
To try and make sense of all this a year later, Michael spoke with Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan -- the US Congressional representative for Flint, and Michael's longtime close friend. A year ago, Rep. Kildee talked to Michael on Rumble in the immediate aftermath of the riots, after calling Michael from the Congressional floor during the insurrection -- with gunshots and rioting in the background.
Today, Michael & Rep. Kildee talk about what has changed in the past year, what hasn't, and what we can do to stop this from happening again. They also talk about how this experience has impacted both of them very personally, and unpack how right wing violence and voting rights are inseparable issues.

Ep. 225: Omicron Under The Christmas Tree (w/ Dr. Peter Hotez)
Just in time for the holidays, Mother Nature has given us her biggest pandemic surprise yet. Yes folks, Omicron is everywhere – and that includes right under your Christmas tree, as you get ready to gather with your grandparents and your unvaccinated baby nieces or nephews. To help you navigate the holidays, know a little more about how to stay safe while living with Omicron, and about what can be done in the fight for vaccine equality across the world, we're joined by returning Rumble guest Dr. Peter Hotez, Co-Director for the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, and Dean for the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
Michael & Dr. Hotez talk about why we might be assuming a bit too much about Omicron being more "mild", whether healthcare workers and the vulnerable might need another booster, vaccine inequality across the world, and what the Biden administration – and you – can do about it.

Ep. 224: Econ 101 with Robert Reich
With the end of the year approaching & reports about inflation dominating the nightly news, Americans are anxious about what this means for them. Former US Secretary of Labor and progressive activist Robert Reich, however, thinks this is a major misdiagnosis: the problem isn’t inflation, but a lack of competition to stop big, monolithic corporations from jacking up prices. Robert joins Mike on the show today to talk about who is really responsible for your gas and milk prices skyrocketing, and why it’s more important than ever for the government to intervene in a moment when they’re trying to pull back. Plus, they discuss the rising labor movements in America and whether the “labor shortage” the media & big companies keep alleging is actually a general strike of workers across the country.

Ep. 223: High Noon for Senator Murphy
On the day of the school shooting at Oxford High School last week, Senator Chris Murphy delivered a passionate speech on the Senate floor tying together the dishonest “sanctity of life” rhetoric from conservatives and the culture of guns, violence and death that is plaguing America. Senator Murphy has been a leading voice when it comes to gun violence in America ever since the Sandy Hook massacre on December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. He joins Mike to discuss how America’s founding violence against slaves made the disregard for human life part of our national ethos and how America’s modern day wars overseas continues to legitimize and promote violence both abroad and at home. They also discuss the possibility and the limits of gun legislation, the power of visceral, uncensored images to change history, and the potential compromise on filibuster reform.

Ep. 222: The Stench (w/ Justice Sonia Sotomayor, et al.)
Today was a chillingly, historically, bad day for women's rights in the United States of America. The right-wing, reactionary Supreme Court heard stunning oral arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a case intended deal a death blow to Roe v. Wade and make abortion in America essentially illegal. But in listening to the arguments and to the mind-altering questions of the six conservative justices, you can hear far more than the death knell of Roe. After 50 years of the merger between right-wing corporate interests and right-wing Evangelical Christianity within the conservative movement and the Republican party, the Supreme Court has become the ultimate and unstoppable weapon when it comes to rolling back our democratic values in America. We are in deep trouble. So in this special episode of Rumble, after an introduction from Michael, you will hear the full, unedited oral arguments in what will soon turn out to be an infamous day in U.S. history. Listen, learn, and get ready for the massive, civil, nonviolent unrest that we will soon take part in.

Ep. 219: Stuck In The Middle (w/ Samuel Moyn)
Mike is joined by Yale History and Law Professor Samuel Moyn to discuss his recent op-ed titled, “If Democrats Return To Centrism, They Are Doomed To Lose Against Trump.” They discuss the Democrats passing the physical infrastructure bill, but failing to, as promised, simultaneously pass the much-needed and politically popular human infrastructure bill, plus the decision by 6 Squad members to courageously stick to their word and only vote on both bills together. They also discuss the neverending campaign from corporate Democrats and corporate media pushing the party to move to the “center” and be more “moderate” and water down all of their programs that the American people and the planet currently need.

Ep. 217: How “Moderates” Are Killing America (w/ David Sirota)
After the promise of major legislation that would rival the impact of FDR’s New Deal, Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda has been sucked dry by corporate America and their pawns in the Senate. Instead of massive new programs to help children, parents, students, the elderly and all us by dealing with the climate crisis, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema appear to have brought the $3.5 trillion bill down to some crumbs. And rather than having it all paid for by taxing the wealthy, they may be putting a halt to that plan, as well.
This is a monumental disaster that will not only hurt the American people, but will once again expose the Democratic party as weak, feckless, and still in the grasp of Wall Street, the pharmaceutical industry and the usual special interests. Turnout for the 2022 midterm elections will be suffocated and the Republican party will feast on the Democrats’ stupidity and ride back into power on it (with Trump waiting in the wings in 2024).
Mike’s joined by a great journalist and former Bernie speechwriter, David Sirota, to talk about where things stand and discuss the need for progressives in congress to HOLD THE LINE and not support these bills moving forward unless items like Paid Family Leave, Medicare Expansion, and taxing the ultra-rich are put back in.

Ep. 216: Pass The Damn Bill! (w/ Rep. Ro Khanna)
For the past few weeks, conservative, corporatist Democrats in Congress have been chipping away at what Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have teamed up to create -- a massive $3.5 trillion investment in the American people. The negotiations on this legislation are ongoing and Mike is joined by a member of Congress fighting to keep the bill as robust and helpful to the majority of Americans as possible, Rep. Ro Khanna of California. Mike and Rep. Khanna discuss what’s in the damn bill, what listeners need to do to help get it passed, what it’s failure might mean to the country, and how devastating it could be politically. They also discuss Rep. Khanna’s collaboration with Paris Hilton to end the abuse of young people at treatment facilities. Finally, Mike listens to your voicemails.

Ep. 215: Kafka in America. It Can’t Happen Here? (w/ Steven Donziger)
Steven Donziger has spent the last 800 days under house arrest with a government tracking device around his ankle.
His crime?
Well, Donziger is the lawyer who successfully sued the oil giant Chevron on behalf of the people of Ecuador for deliberately discharging 16 billion gallons of toxic waste in the Ecuadorian Amazon between 1964 and 1992. Donziger and his colleagues succeeded and won a $9.5 billion judgment on behalf of the indigenous and poor communities of Ecuador in 2011. Chevron has yet to pay a dime on this judgement and instead, have brought this case to the friendly confines of the United States and turned Donziger, the person who successfully prosecuted them, into the one doing time.
Mike is joined by Steven Donziger, live from his house arrest, to explain the Kafka-esque/Twilight Zone case in which Donziger is serving as the punching bag of corporate America, with the American people footing the bill. They discuss this bizarre and unprecedented case, his condition, and what we all must do to fight back.

Ep. 213: EMERGENCY PODCAST SYSTEM — Rep. Ilhan Omar
Congress could be on the verge of passing a historic investment in America's human and physical infrastructure not seen since the 1930's. The overwhelming majority of the Democratic caucus is behind it, the majority of Americans in countless opinion polls support it and it is the backbone of President Biden's domestic agenda. Yet two Democratic Senators -- Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona -- stand in the way of getting it done. Michael Moore is joined by Rep. Ilhan Omar on this Emergency Podcast System episode of Rumble to find out where this legislation currently stands and what the American people can do to help pass it. ***********
Chris Hedges is one of the great journalists, thinkers, war reporters and truth-tellers of our time. He won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting on global terrorism while at the New York Times, who later fired him for speaking out against the Iraq war.
He joins Michael to speak on Afghanistan, the collapse of the American empire, the upcoming 9/11 anniversary, and the end of abortion rights in Texas (and around the U.S.)
Hedges was a war correspondent for many years and has seen awful human degradation, societies in collapse, social bonds being ruptured, and people turning to “self-destructive behavior and magical thinking.” Alarmingly, he sees all of these signals of decay here in America.
Hedges has also studied the Evangelical Christian Right in America and wrote a prescient book in 2008 titled, “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America.” He details the decades-long battle on women’s reproductive rights, the cynical and dishonest methods used to restrict access to abortion and how this pernicious form of fascism has only grown stronger since that book was published.
However, as a teacher, an ordained Presbyterian minister, and a graduate from Harvard’s Divinity School, Hedges draws on the teachings of great philosophers and theologians to lay out a moral imperative for solidarity and struggle and explains why we must not succumb to despair.

Michael is joined by investigative reporter Jordan Chariton who has been doggedly pursuing the truth about what caused the water and the people of Flint to be poisoned, trying to make sure that the conspirators face justice, and forcing the media to pay attention. They discuss the latest revelations about the massive cover-up from former Governor Rick Snyder and his henchman, what's happening on the ground in Flint, the House investigation this new report has provoked, and how Snyder and Co. will try to sliver out of facing accountability. Plus, Michael shares some new thoughts on the COVID surge and briefly discusses an announcement he's making next week!

Ep. 204: Rebecca Traister, Part 2 -- #MeToo, Harvey & Sexual Harassment In Our Left Media
Last week, we aired Part 1 of Michael's conversation with author Rebecca Traister about President Biden's first six months in office. Afterwards, Mike and Rebecca ended up in an unplanned, revealing and thoughtful discussion about #MeToo, Harvey Weinstein and sexual harassment in progressive media. Traister has written forcefully on issues of gender, feminism, politics and culture. They discuss how abusers remain in power for so long, why the prison system and locking up cartoon villains will not solve the problem, and the importance of solidarity and unions to confront the entrenched power structure.

Ep. 202: The Anti-Vax Movement's Public Enemy #1 with Dr. Peter Hotez
With COVID-19 cases skyrocketing in the U.S. and around the world, and the Delta variant causing havoc, we must face the fact that this pandemic is on the verge causing much more death and illness as students prepare to go back to school next month. This is especially troublesome in regions in the U.S. and regions around the world where overwhelming majorities of citizens (especially teens and children) are unvaccinated. Mike is joined by Dr. Peter Hotez to explain how important the next few months will be, the never-ending battle with both the anti-vax and right-wing misinformation machines, and the inexpensive Covid-19 "people's vaccine" Dr. Hotez has developed at his hospital in Houston that could become one of the cheapest and most accessible vaccines throughout the world.

Ep. 201: Hey, You Know Any Women? (w/ Legendary News Anchor Carol Jenkins)
After first being drafted in 1923 by two leaders of the women’s suffrage movement and then finally being passed by Congress in 1972, the century-long struggle to have the Equal Rights Amendment ratified and gender-equality enshrined in the U.S. Constitution is finally on the brink of succeeding. That's because in 2020, the state of Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the E.R.A. matching the two-thirds threshold needed to ratify a constitutional amendment. However, an arbitrary 7-year time limit on the 1972 legislation has provided one final hurdle that advocates for women's equality must overcome. Since Michael spoke with Rep. Jackie Speier in February, the House has passed her bill to remove the deadline to ratify the E.R.A. Now, it's in the Senate's hands. Michael is joined by the ground-breaking TV anchor and President of the E.R.A. Coalition Carol Jenkins to discuss the next steps towards achieving gender equality in the U.S. Constitution.

Ep. 200. Police Academy 7: Defund The Police (w/ Desmond Cole)
In recent episodes of Rumble, Michael Moore has shared his ideas for an alternative to the American way of policing: The Department of Public Safety & Compassion. He's also shared his ideas for an alternative to our brutal and racist system of mass incarceration: The Department of Restorative Justice & Redemption. In this episode, Mike is joined by Desmond Cole, an award-winning journalist and activist who recently published his first book called “The Skin We’re In: A Year of Black Resistance & Power.” They discuss the intellectual underpinnings of the movement to defund the police and abolish the prison system, why white liberals should not fear these ideas, and how our society will be better off when we decide to treat each other differently. Plus, Mike shares an update on Darnella Frazier, the courageous teenager who filmed the execution of George Floyd. On Tuesday night her uncle was killed by Minneapolis police who were in the middle of a reckless car chase. Madness. Tragic.

Ep. 199: Comedy Legend Larry Charles
Larry Charles is one of the great comedic writers, producers and directors of our time. His credits include his pivotal role during the first seasons of Seinfeld, along with Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mad About You, The Arsenio Hall Show, among many others. He directed the original "Borat," one of the great works of satire of all time. He directed "Religulous," a bold, genius broadside against organized religion. His 2019 Netflix series, "Larry Charles' Dangerous World of Comedy," is an epic journey across the world where comedians live actual dangerous lives. He joins Mike to discuss the state of non-fiction and political satire, the meaning of cancel culture and political correctness, entertainment and propaganda, and how advertisers, censors and an insurance company must sign off on everything we see on TV. They also share some personal stories, including how they created a sitcom pilot together that was greenlit by a major network, but then never made it to air due to advertisers’ objections.

They also discuss the recent foolish attacks on Rep. Ep. 197: Welcome To The Department of Restorative Justice & Redemption (w/ Dan Berger)
America's prison system is brutal, stupid and inhumane. It makes us all less safe and has a terrible impact on other parts of our society such as health care, education, and even how we treat one another. "Reform" or band-aids will not make it better - it must be uprooted, abolished and replaced. Michael Moore recently proposed a "Department of Public Safety & Compassion" to replace the existing way we do policing. In this episode, he proposes a "Department of Restorative Justice & Redemption" to replace our existing Prison Industrial Complex. He is joined by Dan Berger, a scholar who has studied prison abolition for several years. They talk about the never-discussed constituency in America called "the criminalized majority," how cruel behavior in society is often taught by cruel institutions (like prisons) themselves, and what they would do if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered. The private tax returns of America's wealthiest few individuals were just leaked to the non-profit journalists at ProPublica and they reveal an American plutocracy that has completely avoided paying personal taxes. We already knew that the wealthiest corporations were able to maneuver the tax code to their benefit, but the levels at which the ultra-wealthy are able to avoid taxes is maddening. And it is all LEGAL. Michael is joined by journalist and author Anand Giridharadas to discuss how they've been able to rig the system, why this is Exhibit A for why we need a wealth tax, and why so many working class Americans have been indoctrinated into supporting the rich and being against taxing them more.

In Dallas, Texas last week, 18 year-old high school valedictorian Paxton Smith decided at the last minute to throw away her school-approved graduation speech to address a new Texas law signed Republican Governor Greg Abbott that would make all abortions illegal as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Video of her 3-minute speech has gone viral and caused a rumble - so she joins Rumble with Michael Moore to explain how she summoned the courage to deliver that speech, how positive the reaction has been, whether she defines herself as "politically active, and the best advice she's received since going viral.
Finally, Michael Moore is confused as to why Joe Manchin was sitting behind the legendary Joan Baez at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night singing along to "We Shall Overcome" to honor her when it is Joe Manchin's intransigence, selfishness and greed that needs to be overcome. Ep. 194: Welcome To The Department of Public Safety & Compassion
The billions of dollars that currently go to police departments across America are NOT contributing to the safety, health and well-being of our citizens. It's time to re-imagine how we think about "public safety" and "law and order." As police budgets continue to increase (despite calls to defund the police), Michael Moore shares a proposal for the creation of The Department of Public Safety & Compassion in every town in America. Rather than attempting to solve human problems by sending in men with badges and guns, we need to dismantle this anachronistic armed wing of the patriarchy and have a department that will serve and truly protect the public from the real dangers in our society: hunger, the lack of clean drinking water, mental health needs, insufficient healthcare, opioid addiction, inadequate public schools, etc. What if we had Public Safety officers whose sole job was to aid the homeless, the unemployed, the addicted, the mentally ill? Don’t they deserve to be protected? From us? Won’t every neighborhood be better off if those suffering in a society fueled by greed, racism and inequity were helped rather than jailed, abused and abandoned? Wouldn’t there in fact be less “crime” if we chose to attack the real crimes and the true criminals who’ve created these appalling conditions? Instead of a militarized police state, what if we built a compassionate state staffed by those with love in their hearts and the knowledge of how to provide the actual help people need when they call 911? Defund the police? De-police the police! Every neighborhood deserves better, much better. It’s the 21st century, folks. C’mon.

Ep. 191: Everybody In The Pool! w/ Heather McGhee
How is it that the richest and most powerful country in the world can't provide even the most basic of human needs for its citizens? What has been holding America back when much poorer countries are able to provide a more stable social safety net? Heather McGhee, one of our most thoughtful economic and policy thinkers has a new book out explaining that racism -- specifically the fear by white Americans that any gains by Black Americans come at their expense -- has reliably turned the majority of white Americans AGAINST government programs that would help all Americans for fear that it would be beneficial to people of color. She joins Michael to discuss what we can do to overcome this decades-long propaganda campaign that has afflicted white America, and how the idea of a "solidarity dividend" can unite a multi-racial, cross-class coalition to take on concentrated wealth and power and build a better country.

Ep. 190: Tax Day In America... Time To Fund The Killing Of More Palestinians!
As the decades-long ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland by Israel has intensified over the past week, Michael Moore shares his thoughts on America's culpability in funding these atrocities. He also recounts his trips to the Occupied West Bank and Gaza in the 1980's, his history of activism with Flint and Detroit's large Jewish and Arab populations, and why the U.S. government must stop funding Israeli apartheid and violence.
Michael also shares his concerns with the dangerous announcement by the CDC to loosen the mask standards when only one-third of Americans have been vaccinated, plus the scary news that the conservative Supreme Court will be taking up a new abortion case that might continue to weaken a women's right to choose.

Ep. 189: "We Are So Damn Fortunate" -- The End of COVID Could Come If You and I Convinced Everyone We Know To Get Their Shot (with Dr. Eric Topol)
A new report claims that U.S. and worldwide COVID deaths are actually much higher than the official numbers: over 900,000 deaths in the U.S. (as opposed to the official count of 574,000) and nearly 7 million worldwide (twice the official number of 3.24 million). This virus has ravaged the world and upended all of our lives. And we still can’t get the truth?
However, as we live through an historically deadly pandemic, we are also living through one of the greatest scientific and medical breakthroughs in history. As Dr. Eric Topol tells Michael Moore, "we are so damn fortunate." In record time, we have developed multiple, extremely effective vaccines that are reaching millions of arms, that cause very limited side effects (and no side effects for the majority of people aside from a sore arm), and it's free. We have an unbelievable opportunity to crush the virus, severely limit the havoc it causes us all, and get back to living healthy lives. Without these amazing vaccines, we'd be staring down several more years of death and destruction. But thanks to these medical and scientific breakthroughs, we stand a fighting chance if we all continue to get vaccinated!
Dr. Topol, who is the Executive Vice President of Scripps Research, one of the most important medical research institutions in the world, helps Michael put this all into perspective and clears up myths about the vaccine and about "herd immunity." Finally, some truth!
And some true hope.

Ep. 188: How to Convince Joe Manchin to Do the Right Thing
Due to the 50-50 split in the United States Senate, the fate of all critical legislation and of the Biden Presidency itself, lays in the hands of West Virginia's conservative Democratic Senator Joe Manchin. And Senator Manchin has made it very clear that he intends to use this power for all it is worth. Fine! Good! In this episode of Rumble, Michael Moore encourages Senator Manchin to go ahead and use that power, but do so for the good of the people of West Virginia. Bring home the bacon! High-speed internet! More funding for research at West Virginia University! Help for those suffering from opioid addiction! Job training and jobs for former coal workers!
Michael also shares his love and appreciation for the state and its people. West Virginia has a rich history militant union action. The state also happens to be very poor. There are so many good, helpful things that Senator Manchin can deliver to the state of West Virginia if he wants to use his power wisely. Hasn’t anyone from the White House called Manchin and simply said, “just tell us what you want— and it’s yours!”
Call Senator Manchin's office and encourage him to give Biden the votes he needs - but do it in return for getting a bunch of good stuff for the people of West Virginia!

Ep. 187: It’s Like Herding Americans! How To Defeat COVID This Year (w/ Laurie Garrett)
Michael is joined by public health expert and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Laurie Garrett to discuss the new reports that the United States of America will never reach herd immunity to the coronavirus. President Biden seemed somewhat defeated when he had to announce recently that we will have to settle for 70% getting just one shot by the 4th of July. They discuss how each of us are the most important ambassadors for total vaccination success. If 200,000 Average American citizens who are listening to this podcast each convince 10 people to get their shots — BOOM! Yes, there is a small portion of the American public who will simply refuse to get the vaccine and whom we cannot reach. However, most of the people avoiding vaccination have fears and skepticism — and each of us can help convince them with our support, encouragement, kindness and love. President Biden — don’t give up on us. We’ll get millions of those sleeves rolled up by summer!

Ep. 186: Biden Our Time
Joe Biden is an unlikely savior. Nothing in his past indicated there was a second coming of FDR on its way. However... WTF is going on?! Elected President at a time of transformational change in America, he has chosen to read the political winds — and those winds have shifted left. The progressive worldview is in ascendance, and the demand by the American public for a big, active government that serves the needs of the American people is what the majority wants. Contrary to what he's done throughout his political career, Joe Biden is not punching left, but riding the progressive wave. And it is looking really, really good.
While it's too soon to paint a full picture of the Biden presidency and whether this political change will last, Michael Moore shares candid thoughts about being shocked by how Biden has governed, asks leftists to understand and acknowledge political victories that are occurring, and also notes that there will be serious political battles ahead. He also shares a story of the first time he met Senator Biden in 2004, and makes an open, public plea to the President to keep delivering for the people, keep following his conscience, and keep telling Republicans and Larry Summers to fuck off.

Ep. 184: EMERGENCY PODCAST SYSTEM — Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!
It took only 10 hours of deliberations for a Minneapolis jury to find former police office Derek Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter of George Floyd. The decision was swift, overwhelming, obvious, and yet, somehow, shocking. Maybe it should not have been such a shock that jurors in the political district that elected Rep. Ilhan Omar to Congress (twice) made the right decision.
However, as Michael Moore explains in this EMERGENCY PODCAST SYSTEM episode of Rumble, it is not normal for these cases to go the right way. He shares his feeling of total shock, plus his warning to white Americans and police officers who do not want to see America change into a more diverse, just, and equitable society. He also explains how this one act of accountability is not the massive, revolutionary change we need to address white supremacy, criminal justice reform, and anti-Black racism. Finally, he pays tribute to Darnella Frazier, the courageous teenager who filmed the the Chauvin murder with a steady hand and a lot of gumption.

Ep. 183: Oscar-Winning Screenwriter and "Mank" Producer Eric Roth
Eric Roth is one of the most successful Hollywood screenwriters of our time. His writing credits include “A Star Is Born," “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “The Good Shepherd,” “Munich,” “Ali,” “The Insider,” “The Horse Whisperer,” “The Postman,” and the film for which he won an Academy Award, "Forrest Gump."
He's also written two of the most highly-anticipated films coming later this year: the science-fiction drama "Dune," and the Martin Scorcese-Leonardo DiCaprio-Robert De Niro collaboration, "Killers of The Flower Moon."
His most recent film, MANK, is one that he produced, and it's up for an Academy Award for Best Picture (among several other nominations) at the Oscars later this month. Roth joins Michael Moore to discuss making MANK with his close collaborator and best friend, director David Fincher, how "Killers of The Flower Moon" may be "the last movie of its kind," what to expect from "Dune" when comes out, his screenwriting advice, and his guilt about making "House of Cards" which helped catapult streaming as the #1 way we watch movies now. They also share their thoughts on the importance of preserving the theatrical experience, the closing of the ArcLight Cinerama Dome, and the future of cinema.

Ep. 182: EMERGENCY PODCAST SYSTEM — Shut Down Michigan! Send More Vaccine! Virus Out Of Control!
The COVID-19 vaccine is out of control in Michigan. Governor Whitmer is afraid to order a shut down of the state after months of threats and attacks from the right-wing and the business community. The federal government is refusing to provide Michigan with extra supply of vaccine. And the fear is that many of the new cases are the aggressive U.K. variant. This is all preventable and will have ramifications outside of the state.

Ep. 179: Aaron Sorkin -- "The Only Thing Better Than A Story You Don't Know Is A Story You Think You Know"
Aaron Sorkin is one of our most celebrated and influential playwrights and screenwriters whose plays, films and television work include A Few Good Men, The American President, The West Wing, Sports Night, The Newsroom, The Social Network, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs. Before the pandemic, his stage adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird, starring Jeff Daniels as Atticus Finch, had turned into one of the the great Broadway shows of all time.
His latest film, which he wrote and directed, is The Trial of the Chicago 7. It has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Sorkin’s fourth Best Screenwriter Oscar for the script. It is a powerful, timely, and entertaining film and it features an all-star cast.
Sorkin joins Michael Moore for a wide-ranging discussion including how the West Wing was almost not made, great career advice he received from The Social Network director David Fincher, plus advice he now gives to aspiring screenwriters. Also, his thoughts on patriotism, the lack of civics in American schools, and how Donald Trump got The Trial of the Chicago 7 made. They also discuss whether To Kill A Mockingbird will return after the pandemic and Sorkin issues a public challenge to fellow playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Ep. 178: Mama. And America, Too.
April 2nd, 1921, is the 100th birthday of Michael's mother, Veronica Moore. If you've ever wondered how Michael Moore turned out to be, well, Michael Moore, start with her as he reveals (mostly) all.
The trial of the former police officer who killed George Floyd has been taking place in Minneapolis this week. The horrific footage of the life being choked out of Floyd by Derek Chauvin has been played nonstop from several angles, and we've heard Floyd's cries for his mother over and over again. We're also hearing testimony from young witnesses who stood on the curb watching the murder taking place, not knowing what they could do to help, and in the case of teenager Darnella Frazier, carefully filming the killing so the world could soon bear witness. The trial has been devastating, and Michael Moore demands of white Americans: DON’T LOOK AWAY.

Ep. 177: “Clips from This This Episode Will Be Run On The Night I'm Not So Lucky" (w. Flint Rep. Dan Kildee)
On Thursday, March 25th, Ron Weiser, Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, described the 3 top elected women in Michigan - Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson - as “the three witches.” And when asked about how Republicans can remove from office the two Michigan Republican Congressmen who voted to impeach Trump, he stated that, other than defeating them in the primary, "assassination" was the only other option.
Weiser is one more example of the heightened risk we face of more political violence and assassinations. We hear a clip from Glenn Beck publicly wondering if he should kill Michael Moore and could he get away with it? Instead of waiting for right-wing crazies to commit more acts of violence against the Michigan “witches,” Michael Moore asks what must be done to stop this potential violence, and to save the lives of elected representatives targeted by the head of the Republican Party. Is it free speech to call for someone’s death? He is joined on this episode by Flint, Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee who survived the January 6th attack on the Capitol. They discuss the existence of Republican political violence in America, and whatever happened to the "9/11-style" Congressional commission that was supposed to investigate the January 6th insurrection.

*****
In 1987, Michael Moore exclusively interviewed Ronald Ebens, the former Chrysler autoworker who, along with his laid-off autoworker stepson, brutally beat a Chinese-American man named Vincent Chin to death with a baseball bat in Detroit 5 years earlier. A witness heard Ebens tell Chin and his Asian-American friend that they "were the reason we're all getting laid off" -- a reference to the scapegoating of the Japanese for the American auto industry cutting jobs (again, Chin was Chinese, but that made no difference to his killer). The killing of Chin and the fact that Ebens spent no time in jail and only paid a small fine set off a wave of new Asian-American civil rights activism.
In this special episode of Rumble, Michael recounts his 2 hour meeting with the defiant killer of Vincent Chin and notes the all-too-familiar "white-guy-as-victim syndrome" that Ebens exhibited due to his legal and media ordeal after he killed Chin. Michael is joined by an Asian-American public school teacher, storyteller, activist, and the cousin of the late Vincent Chin, Annie Tan, who explains the importance of Vincent Chin's legacy and discusses the proactive, positive work that is being done to confront anti-Asian racism and violence.
Finally, March 23rd, 2021 is Michael Moore's Liberation Day. After 379 days in a self-imposed quarantine and one month after receiving his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, he's finally leaving the house and he ponders all the places he will go.

One of the most important pieces of legislation in recent American history is in front of the U.S. Senate right now. It may determine whether we are able to maintain and strengthen voting rights in America, or whether Republicans will continue their path to minority rule, where more Americans will continue to vote for Democrats, but the Republican party will continue to hold power due to voter suppression, gerrymandering, the electoral college and other regressive factors.
Journalist Ari Berman has been ferociously studying and educating us about the all-out attack on voting rights and what we need to do about it. He joins Michael to discuss the Senate legislation and House legislation we must get passed and how this will all come down to abolishing the filibuster.

Michael Moore received his second dose of the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine this week. He discusses his yearlong lockdown during the pandemic, why he decided to get vaccinated now, and why we should all get vaccinated when our number is called. He also shares the benefits of all the solitary time in his 353-day quarantine, his "liberation day" list of things to do once the vaccine has taken effect, the racial and socioeconomic disparities in vaccinations, and why we must all continue to be vigilant until Covid is gone for good.
Finally, Michael warns of the three major problems with the Biden administration this week: bombing Syria, going soft on the minimum wage increase and giving Saudi Crown Prince MBS a free pass after ordering the killing of a Washington Post journalist.
