Praying Through the Psalms: Psalm 3
Our guest speaker Ben Spalink talks through Psalm 3. The prayer God truly appreciates is when we bring our total selves - the good, the bad and the ugly. God even welcomes us to bring our fear. Prayer can be a powerful means by which we strengthen our relationship with God, anchor ourselves in his grace and find power to overcome in the midst of crippling anxiety-inducing circumstances. We’ll learn from David how he found prayer to be a source of support and confidence in God.Support the show

Praying Through the Psalms: Psalm 137
For many of us the last few years have been disorienting, spiritually trying, culturally shifting. Israel went through times like this as well. In fact, some of those times were even worse, and God has preserved a record for our guidance. Psalm 137 offers an unfiltered and guttural response to the atrocity of shifting paradigms. The psalmist was not perfect, and neither is his response. We can learn from him, nonetheless. Unfortunately, his praise of God is contingent on blessing, it exalts the wrong things, and it takes joy in God's cursing rather than his blessing. Turning this approach to worship on its head offers us a way forward when we find ourselves in unfamiliar and disorienting times. Our guest pastor Joshua preaches on Psalm 137.Support the show

Praying Through the Psalms: Psalm 27
This Sunday we’re beginning our summer sermon series, “Praying through the Psalms”! Jordan will be kicking us off by looking at Psalm 27. “This Psalm of David contains some of my favorite verses found in the book of Psalms. But if we look at the full context of the song, we see that David is not in a good place; he has enemies seeking his life. This may be difficult for us to relate to. As we learn to pray Psalm 27, we'll see the Psalmist wants us to shift our focus away from our problems and on to the Lord.”Support the show

This Sunday we continue our series "Surprised by Jesus," taking a look at Jesus calling Matthew, a tax collector, and choosing to eat with tax collectors and sinners, the most despised in the Jewish community. Surprised by Jesus: Doubts
Doubts. We all have them. While it’s easy to keep doubts to ourselves, use them to push us away God or even feel ashamed for having them, Jesus invites us to not only have doubts, but to bring them to Him. He is not afraid of our questions or frustrations. This Sunday we begin our new series, Surprised by Jesus, taking a look at preconceived ideas we might have about Jesus and how he not only confronts them but flips them on their head. Upside Down Kindom: Yes, No, Maybe?
As Christ followers, it is our job to be Jesus to the world. Our speech, our actions, our relationships, what we post, how we spend our time and our money all say things about what being a follower of Jesus looks like. As God’s representation on the earth, what statement are we making with our lives? Is it authentic? Is it real? Is it Christ-like? In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls us to live an elevated life – a life of freedom above and beyond the rituals and requirements of the law. Part of this will re-define the idea of authenticity. Transformed by the Spirit: Self-Control
This Sunday, we come to the last characteristic of the fruit of the Spirit, self-control. We live in a culture that celebrates one’s identity through overindulgence and giving into whatever desires we have. Yet, scripture tells us that to be full of the Holy Spirit is to be a people of self-control. We tend to think that means denying ourselves of all pleasure and just saying “No!” through sheer will power. The Apostle Paul invites us to see how biblical self-control is more than just will power, but a disciplined life rooted in a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ.Support the show
