Pasadena City College
Pasadena City College presents The Future Of Work.
We are leading the conversation of how to begin closing the gap between what our students are learning and what the demands of the workforce will be once they enter.
We’ll be talking to policy makers, business owners, educators and the students we are advocating for. We’ll explore topics like how education can partner with industry, how to be more equitable and how to attain one of our highest goals, more internships.
This conversation impacts the future of all of us.
Jackie Javier on What it Takes To Create Internship & Employment Opportunities in the Age of Covid-19 Episode 39
Jackie Javier, Manager of Work-Based Learning at Pasadena City College, returns to the podcast to share what she and her team has done to create opportunities during the pandemic. Summer is the most popular and often the only time a student has to get the all important internship. But this last summer, almost all internships shut down. Jackie and her team made the pivot and started working in overdrive to create programs, fairs, and panels that jump started employment and internship opportunities. They focused on helping historically marginalized student groups to close the equity gap and build infrastructure that tracks. Listen in to hear all that the Work-Based Learning team has done to empower their students and connect with employers in the age of Covid-19. Jim McCarthy, CEO & Co-Founder of Goldstar: Thinking Like An Entrepreneur Episode 22
The entrepreneurial journey is usually filled with many twists and turns and the path for Jim McCarthy was no different. There are not many people that can say they were not only there when the internet was being developed into how we interact with it today but to have had a hand in that development, which may come to no surprise, was being curated during the early stages of Amazon. Jim illustrates that entrepreneurial thinking is what makes the difference in seeing an opportunity that can be executed uniquely in order to be more effective or to create a new idea that will solve a problem more effectively. The question then becomes, how do we begin to cultivate innovative thinking as a skill that can be taught within an educational institute in order to yield a workforce that has the potential to change our future?
