Dr. Mark Hyman
We are seeing an ever-increasing burden of chronic disease, primarily driven by our food and food system. This is perpetuated by agricultural, food, and health care policies that don’t support health. We need to rethink disease and reimagine a food system and a health care system the protects health, unburdens the economy from the weight of obesity and chronic disease, protects the environment, helps reverse climate change, and creates a nation of healthy children and citizens. This podcast is a place for deep conversations about the critical issues of our time in the space of health, wellness, food, and politics. New episodes are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. I hope you'll join me.

How Inflammation Drives Osteoporosis
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens.
Osteoporosis is very common, especially as we age, but it doesn’t have to be the life-threatening risk that currently it is. We’ve been led to believe that getting enough calcium is the key to healthy bones. In truth, your bone health is determined by your diet, gut health and nutrient absorption, physical activity levels, muscle mass, and more.
I talk with Dr. Todd LePine, Dr. David Ludwig, and Dhru Purohit about the myths surrounding bone health and why it’s important to take steps to strengthen your bones at every age.
Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine certified practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. His areas of interest include optimal aging, bio-detoxification, functional gastrointestinal health, systemic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and the neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders.
David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, is an endocrinologist and researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital. He holds the rank of Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig is codirector of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center and founder of the Optimal Weight for Life program, one of the country’s oldest and largest clinics for the care of overweight children. For more than 25 years, Dr. Ludwig has studied the effects of dietary composition on metabolism, body weight, and risk for chronic disease. Described as an “obesity warrior” by Time Magazine, Dr. Ludwig has fought for fundamental policy changes to improve the food environment.

A Harvard Psychiatrist Rethinks Mental Health As A Metabolic Disease with Dr. Christopher Palmer
This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox, InsideTracker, and Cozy Earth.
The common medical approach to psychiatric disorders is to treat the symptoms. But the truth is that we just don’t know how the biological, psychological, and social risk factors and symptoms of these problems fit together. We don’t know what the underlying pathology is. I was excited to talk to Dr. Christopher Palmer who is disrupting the paradigm of psychiatry, about new ways of treating psychiatric disorders, specifically with the ketogenic diet and mitochondrial repair.
Dr. Palmer is a psychiatrist and researcher working at the interface of metabolism and mental health. He is the Director of the Department of Postgraduate and Continuing Education at McLean Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For over 25 years, he has held leadership roles in psychiatric education, conducted research, and worked with people who have treatment-resistant mental illnesses. He has been pioneering the use of the medical ketogenic diet in the treatment of psychiatric disorders—conducting research, treating patients, writing, and speaking around the world on this topic.

The Daily Practice That Will Change Your Life And Improve Your Health
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and Paleovalley.
If there was something you could do every day to boost your focus and productivity, feel energized, reduce stress, sleep better, maintain a positive outlook, and support whole-body health, wouldn’t you do it? It’s for all these reasons, and more, that meditation is a foundational pillar to good health.
In today’s episode, I talk with Daniel Goleman, Emily Fletcher, and Dr. Joe Dispenza about how meditation changes lives by reducing stress, creating resilience, and improving emotional intelligence.
Daniel Goleman is best known for his worldwide bestseller Emotional Intelligence and most recently coauthored the book Altered Traits: Science Reveals How Meditation Changes Your Mind, Brain, and Body. Goleman has been ranked among the 25 most influential business leaders by several business publications including Time and the Wall Street Journal. Apart from his writing on emotional intelligence, Goleman has written books on topics including self-deception, creativity, transparency, meditation, social and emotional learning, eco-literacy, and the ecological crisis.
Emily Fletcher is the founder of Ziva, the creator of The Ziva Technique, and a leading expert in meditation for high performers. She is also the author of Stress Less, Accomplish More.
Dr. Joe Dispenza’s passion can be found at the intersection of the latest findings from the fields of neuroscience, epigenetics, and quantum physics to explore the science behind spontaneous remissions. He uses that knowledge to teach people how to heal their bodies of health conditions, make significant changes in their lives, and evolve their consciousness. Since 2010, he has partnered with scientists and universities to perform extensive research on the effects that meditation has on the brain and body. He and his team have also studied gene expression, protein regulation, immune response, neurotransmitter changes, telomere length, and variations in bioactive cellular metabolic particles in novice and advanced meditators.

So I’m constantly working on how to give my genes the right information to do the latter.

5 Steps To Get To The Root Cause Of Your Symptoms
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and InsideTracker.
This myth is pervasive throughout medicine: if you know the name of your disease, you know what’s wrong with you. In truth, diagnoses are just names we associate with a collection of symptoms. They tell us nothing about why someone has those symptoms—the root causes of the “disease.” Functional Medicine seeks to dig deeper to look for the root cause of symptoms.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham, Dr. Todd LePine, and Dr. George Papanicolaou about how patients miss out on true healing when the root cause of their symptoms is not addressed.
Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing, she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing.
Dr. George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner. In 2000, he founded Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley, MA. He practiced with a philosophy centered on personal relationships and treating the whole person, not just not the disease. He calls his philosophy “Whole Life Wellness.” Over time, as the healthcare system made it harder for patients to receive this kind of personal care, Dr. Papanicolaou decided a change was needed. He began training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2015, he established Cornerstone Personal Health, a practice dedicated entirely to Functional Medicine. Dr. Papanicolaou joined The UltraWellness Center in 2017.

How To Move From Toxic Relationships And Sex To Healing Relationships And Sex with Angelika Alana
This episode is brought to you by Gut Food, BiOptimizers, InsideTracker, and Pendulum.
Relationships can feel complicated. We often go into them looking for others to fulfill whatever we refuse to give ourselves. We want our unmet needs to be met by this other person, without doing the inner work to help ourselves. Owning our needs actually makes it easier for other people to meet our needs. This sounds counterintuitive, but it’s one of those breakthroughs that can really turn toxic relationship patterns around.
Today I’m excited to share a conversation with my good friend Angelika Alana, all about tuning into our bodies, our physical and emotional needs, and healing our connection to ourselves and others. Angelika is the founder and CEO of the Somatic Healing Institute. She has been featured in Vanity Fair, Well+Good, and Modern Luxury. She certifies coaches and facilitators in her transformational body-based healing method. She has traveled and studied extensively in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, and the UK, and is a massive foodie with her husband Patrick Drake, co-founder of Hello Fresh.

The Best Foods To Heal The Gut
This episode is brought to you by Gut Food, Rupa Health, ButcherBox, and InsideTracker.
Our gut, and the tons of bacteria that reside within it, regulates many of our bodily functions, from creating vitamins to controlling our immune system, our brain function, and, of course, our metabolism and weight. The gut is the number-one place to investigate when healing the body of any chronic symptoms or diseases. If your gut isn’t healthy, you’re not healthy!
In this episode of my Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about why prebiotics are vital in creating a healthy gut. These are the things your good gut bugs love to munch on. In turn, they produce beneficial compounds such as short-chain fatty acids, which have been shown to help prevent things like colon cancer.

What To Eat For Balanced Blood Sugar
This episode is brought to you by Gut Food, Vuori, and Paleovalley.
Have you ever wondered what the worst candy or cereal for your blood sugar is, or what the best thing to order at your favorite restaurant might be? Thanks to continuous glucose monitors, this is knowledge we’ll all be able to take advantage of in the near future. With insulin resistance playing a key role in the majority of the chronic diseases of our time, monitoring how our blood sugar responds to different foods is a huge step towards health.
In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Casey Means, Jessie Inchauspé, and Dhru Purohit about the best and the worst foods to eat for glucose management, as well as tips and tricks for combining food for optimal blood sugar balance.
Dr. Casey Means is a Stanford-trained physician, Chief Medical Officer and Cofounder of the metabolic health company Levels, an associate editor of the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention, and a guest lecturer at Stanford University. Her mission is to maximize human potential and reverse the epidemic of preventable chronic disease by empowering individuals with tools that can facilitate a deep understanding of our bodies and inform personalized and sustainable dietary and lifestyle choices.
Jessie holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from King's College London and a master’s degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University. Her work at a genetic analysis start-up in Silicon Valley made her realize that, as the key to good health, food habits beat genetics. In her first book, Glucose Revolution, Jessie shares her startling discovery about the essential role of blood sugar in every aspect of our lives, from cravings to fertility, and the surprising hacks to optimize it while still eating the foods we love.

Daily Steps To Prevent Heart Disease
This episode is brought to you by Gut Food, ButcherBox, and Paleovalley.
Heart disease is the number-one killer in the world, and it is often thought of as a cholesterol problem. When you take a closer look, however, there are other factors that drive this chronic disease that can’t be fixed by the most commonly prescribed medication: statin drugs. The way you eat, how much you exercise, how you manage stress, and more all contribute to heart disease.
In this episode, I talk with Dr. Aseem Malhotra, Dr. Stanley Hazen, and Dr. Cindy Geyer about why heart disease is easier to prevent than to reverse, why statins are not the answer in most cases, and how the gut microbiome is connected to heart health.
Dr. Aseem Malhotra is an NHS-trained consultant, cardiologist, and visiting professor of Evidence-Based Medicine at the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health in Salvador, Brazil. He is a pioneer of the lifestyle medicine movement in the UK and in 2018 was ranked by software company Onalytica as the number-one doctor in the world influencing obesity thinking. He is the author of, The Pioppi Diet, coauthored with Donal O'Neill, The 21-Day Immunity Plan, and, A Statin-Free Life.
Dr. Stanley Hazen is both the chair of the Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the Lerner Research Institute and section head of Preventive Cardiology & Rehabilitation at the Heart and Vascular Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. He’s published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and has over 50 patents from his pioneering discoveries in atherosclerosis and inflammatory disease. Dr. Hazen made the seminal discovery linking microbial pathways to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Cindy Geyer received her Bachelor of Science and her Doctor of Medicine degrees, with honors, from the Ohio State University. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, and is triple board certified in internal medicine, integrative medicine, and lifestyle medicine. She joined The Ultrawellness Center in 2021 after practicing and serving as the medical director at Canyon Ranch for 23 years.

Why Gut Issues Are On The Rise And How To Fix It
The gut microbiome plays a role in every disease, so why aren’t we doing more to protect and restore it? One third to one half of all Americans have gut issues due to the constant consumption of industrialized foods, glyphosate, food additives, and more. This is a problem—and it’s time for us to take action.
In this episode of my Masterclass series, the first in a series on gut health, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about the importance of polyphenols for our gut health. We also discuss my gut-health journey, which led me to dig deep into understanding the value of a healthy gut and diverse microbiome, and how to get there.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, The Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30 million unique downloads. Resolving Acne, Psoriasis, And Other Skin Issues Using Functional Medicine
This episode is brought to you by Mitopure and Levels.
Skin problems like acne, psoriasis, and eczema are often treated with over-the-counter lotions, creams, and potions or even with antibiotics. But while these options may reduce symptoms temporarily, they don't get to the root cause of the problem. In Functional Medicine, we dig deep to determine the underlying cause of skin issues, which often originate in the gut—treat the gut, and the skin clears up.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham, Dhru Purohit, and Dr. Todd LePine about the pathophysiology of acne, why diet matters for skin health, and how gut health is related to skin health.
Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. At the same time, what we eat is only one “ingredient” needed to make a healthy human. We need real, whole, fresh food, but we also need things like movement, connection, meaning, and purpose. When you take out the bad stuff and put in the good stuff, you create balance. Your body knows how to create health from those ingredients.
In this episode, I feature an in-depth discussion on the importance of community, mindset, and optimism when it comes to increasing our healthspan from my Longevity Roadmap docu-series. In this series, I am joined by my colleagues at The UltraWellness Center: Elizabeth Boham, MD, MS, RD, Medical Director and Physician; Todd LePine, MD, Physician; and George Papanicolaou, DO, Physician. In this conversation we also delve into the fascinating topic of innovative anti-aging therapies based on the newest longevity research.

How To Support Our Emotional Health And Process Grief
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and ButcherBox.
Experiencing feelings of grief is a natural part of the human experience. While it can be difficult to sit with hard feelings such as grief, avoiding our emotions only makes them louder. Through practice, we can learn to accept our feelings in the moment. We can work to break the pattern of being at war with the present moment and let our feelings come and go as needed.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Joan Rosenberg, Susan David, and Tara Brach about situations that prompt grief, why facing our emotions is healthier than bottling them up, and how to accept difficult emotions.
Dr. Joan Rosenberg is a cutting-edge psychologist who is known as an innovative thinker, acclaimed speaker, and trainer. Susan David, PhD, is one of the world’s leading management thinkers and an award-winning Harvard Medical School psychologist. What To Eat For Health And Longevity

The Reemergence Of Psychedelic Medicine For Anxiety, Depression, and End-of-Life Care
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and Rupa Health.
Psychedelics have gotten a bad rap. Often associated with the small period of time they became popular in the 1960s, they were researched in clinical, cultural, and spiritual contexts for many decades prior to that. Now we are seeing an uptick in the interest of drugs like this, which include compounds like psilocybin from certain species of mushrooms, for therapeutic uses. Trials are finding amazing effects on anxiety, depression, PTSD, and fear of death by using psychedelics in a responsible and highly controlled environment.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Anthony Bossis, Michael Pollan, and Rameshwar Das about the neurobiology of psychedelics, how they can help to shift mindset, and the story of Ram Dass.
Anthony P. Bossis, PhD, conducts FDA-approved clinical trials in the reemerging field of psychedelic research. He is a clinical psychologist and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, where he investigates the effects of psilocybin, a naturally occurring compound found in specific species of mushrooms.
Michael Pollan is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Cooked, Food Rules, In Defense of Food, The Omnivore's Dilemma, The Botany of Desire, How to Change Your Mind, and This Is Your Mind on Plants.
Rameshwar Das has been navigating a spiritual path for 50 years. Ramesh met Ram Dass in 1968 and spent time with Neem Karoli Baba in India from 1970–72. He learned Vipassana meditation from Goenka in India. Ramesh has worked as an artist, photographer, environmentalist, and writer. He has collaborated on many projects with Ram Dass over the years, including the original Be Here Now and the Love Serve Remember recordings, and he has coauthored three books with Ram Dass: Be Love Now, Polishing the Mirror, and Being Ram Dass.

How Balanced Hormones Lead To Healthy Aging
This episode is brought to you by InsideTracker and Athletic Greens.
Hormones are like a symphony, with each one acting as a specialized instrument to keep our bodies in tune. But as we age, those instruments start to get a little rusty. Small changes over time create a variety of imbalances, until one day we wake up realizing we’re flat and out of tune. This leads to things like menopausal symptoms in women, hair loss and belly fat in men, thyroid dysfunction, bone loss, and so much more.
That’s why it’s never too early, or too late, to start optimizing hormonal balance. Today we’re featuring an episode of the Longevity Roadmap docu-series that takes a deep dive into hormones and how they play a critical role in how well, or poorly, we age. I was joined by two of my colleagues from The UltraWellness Center, Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Dr. Todd LePine.

How Innovators Are Disrupting Our Broken Food System
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and Paleovalley.
Our current food system is not working. Food waste is at an all-time high, food deserts exist in many neighborhoods, and our produce is falling short in flavor and nutrients. The good news is that innovators in various fields are implementing ideas that promote better access to fresh, nutritious, and tastier food for everyone.
In today’s episode, I talk with Kavita Shukla, Tobias Peggs, and Dan Barber about a creative way to reduce food waste, growing the number of farmers in urban areas, and ideas to improve the flavor and nutrition profile of produce.
Kavita Shukla is the founder and CEO of The FRESHGLOW Co. and the inventor of FreshPaper, a simple innovation taking on the massive global challenge of food waste by keeping food fresher longer. FreshPaper is used by farmers and families across the globe, and The FRESHGLOW Co. has partnered with some of the largest retailers in the world, from Whole Foods to Walmart, so that people everywhere can take advantage of this incredible product and the goodness of real food.
Tobias Peggs is the cofounder and CEO of Square Roots, the Brooklyn-based urban farming company known for changing the way people think about growing local food and training the country’s future generations of farmers. Previously, he led Aviary, a mobile photo-editing company, as its CEO until its acquisition by Adobe and was also CEO at OneRiot, a social media analytics company, since acquired by Walmart. Tobias grew up in England and has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Cardiff University.
Dan Barber is breaking the conventional ways we eat, cook, and think about food. He is the chef and co-owner of Blue Hill and Blue Hill at Stone Barns and the author of The Third Plate. He also cofounded Row 7 Seed Company, a seed company bringing together chefs and plant breeders in the development of new varieties of vegetables and grains. Dan has received multiple James Beard awards including Best Chef: New York City (2006) and the country's Outstanding Chef (2009). In this episode, it’s clear how mutually passionate Dan and I are about changing the current food system and doing so in a way that promotes health and supports the environment.

What Causes Rapid Aging?
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, InsideTracker, and Pendulum.
Aging shouldn’t be something we dread; it should be something we celebrate. Yet, as a society, we are sicker than ever. We are so fixated on keeping people alive longer, but what about keeping people healthier? This is the difference between healthspan and life span. Your life span is how long you live. Your healthspan is how long you live a healthy, vibrant life.
I’ve learned so much about this topic over the last few years that my team at The UltraWellness Center and I got together to make a docu-series about the Functional Medicine approach to longevity. Over the next few weeks, I’m excited to share this series with you here. In this episode, we dive into an overview of the seven systems of Functional Medicine and how you can optimize these systems to improve your healthspan.

Redesigning Our Food System To Make Health Accessible For All
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and Rupa Health.
We are living in an epidemic of chronic disease that is destroying our health, our communities, and our economy. The common denominator between all of these things is food, or more specifically, our food system. The way our food is grown, transported, processed, and consumed is making us sick and driving health disparities related to income and race, especially among marginalized groups.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Marcia Chatelain, Dr. Rupa Marya, Raj Patel, and Karen Washington about creating a society that cultivates health, how our existing social structures predispose us to illness, and how we can make great changes to our food system through grassroots efforts.
Dr. Marcia Chatelain is a professor of history and African American studies at Georgetown University. The author of South Side Girls: Growing up in the Great Migration, she teaches about women’s and girls’ history, as well as black capitalism. Her latest book, Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America, examines the intricate relationship among African American politicians, civil rights organizations, communities, and the fast food industry.
Dr. Rupa Marya is an associate professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where she practices and teaches Internal Medicine. Her research examines the health impacts of social systems, from agriculture to policing. She is a cofounder of the Do No Harm Coalition, a collective of health workers committed to addressing disease through structural change.
Raj Patel is a research professor at the University of Texas at Austin’s Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs, a professor in the university’s department of nutrition, and a research associate at Rhodes University, South Africa. He is the author of Stuffed and Starved, the New York Times bestselling The Value of Nothing, and coauthor of A History of the World in Seven Cheap Things.
Karen Washington is a farmer, activist, and food advocate. She is the co-owner and farmer at Rise & Root Farm in Chester, New York. Karen cofounded Black Urban Growers (BUGS), an organization supporting growers in both urban and rural settings. In 2012, Ebony magazine voted her one of the 100 most influential African Americans in the country, and in 2014 Karen was the recipient of the James Beard Leadership Award.

Why Sugar And Fructose Are So Deadly with Dr. Richard Johnson
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, InsideTracker, and HigherDOSE.
Eighty-eight percent of people are metabolically unhealthy, and since the 1920s we’ve shamed them into believing it’s their fault—that they should just eat fewer calories and exercise more.
But the real culprit is sugar and the processed foods that contain it. The majority of foods on our market shelves contain insane amounts of added sugar and high-fructose corn syrup—ingredients that literally slow down our metabolism and turn on our internal fat storage switch. That means we have the power to turn that switch off by choosing to use food as medicine. Today, I’m excited to talk to Dr. Richard Johnson about how our biological fat storage process works and what we can do to positively affect it.
Dr. Richard Johnson is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver and has been a practicing physician and clinical scientist for over 25 years. He is internationally recognized for his seminal work on the role of sugar and its component fructose, in obesity and diabetes. His work has also suggested a fundamental role for uric acid (which is generated during fructose metabolism) in metabolic syndrome. He previously authored The Sugar Fix with Timothy Gower in 2008, and The Fat Switch in 2012. His new book, Nature Wants Us to Be Fat was just released.
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, InsideTracker, and HigherDOSE.
Rupa Health is a place where Functional Medicine practitioners can access more than 2,000 specialty lab tests from over 20 labs like DUTCH, Vibrant America, Genova, and Great Plains. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com.

Here are more details from our interview (audio version / Apple Subscriber version):
What makes sugar so bad? (5:50 / 2:44)
How our body’s fat-storage switch works (7:25 / 4:06)

How To Reverse Or Reduce Your Risk Of Alzheimer’s And Dementia
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and ButcherBox.
For so long, we’ve been told that memory loss and dementia are just normal parts of aging.
We now know it doesn’t have to be that way, and that there are many measures we can proactively take to avoid cognitive decline as we age. Emerging research is helping us look at new ways to treat and even prevent devastating neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia, giving people a newfound sense of hope.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Marwan Sabbagh, Dr. Richard Isaacson, and Dr. Jay Lombard about the role of genetics in brain disorders, lifestyle habits you can start right now to reduce your risk or reverse symptoms, and why we need to look at bacteria as a cause of neurodegenerative disease.
Dr. Marwan Sabbagh is a board-certified neurologist and considered one of the leading experts in Alzheimer’s and dementia. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and BMC Neurology and is now Editor-in-Chief of Neurology and Therapy. Dr. Sabbagh is the author of The Alzheimer’s Answer: Reduce Your Risk and Keep Your Brain Healthy and The Alzheimer’s Prevention Cookbook: 100 Recipes to Boost Brain Health. His latest book, Fighting for My Life: How to Thrive in the Shadow of Alzheimer’s, is now available.
Dr. Richard Isaacson serves as Director of the Center for Brain Health and Director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic (APC) at Florida Atlantic University’s Schmidt College of Medicine. He previously served as Director of the APC at the Weill Cornell Memory Disorders Program, Assistant Dean of Faculty Development, and Associate Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian. He remains as Adjunct Associate Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Weill Cornell.
Dr. Jay Lombard is an internationally acclaimed neurologist, author, and keynote speaker specializing in neuroimmunological conditions and medical mysteries. Dr. Lombard integrates biological, psychological, and existential components in his holistic treatment approach. Dr. Lombard’s clinical experience revealed an interesting pattern: one patient with ALS also had small-intestine bacterial overgrowth, another had ulcerative colitis, yet another had Crohn’s, and so on. He started seeing the connections between these bacterial imbalances and Clostridium difficile, or C. diff, and the link to neurological symptoms.

How Climate Change Is Making Us Sick And What We Can Do About It with Amanda Ravenhill
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, InsideTracker, and Mitopure.
I recently took a life changing trip to Antarctica to see what is really happening to our environment as the result of climate change. Before you roll your eyes or gloss over this episode, I want you to understand this: Climate change is not just floods, droughts, a hotter planet, and deadly weather events, which are all scary enough to think about. It affects our whole body health—impacting chronic disease, infectious diseases, our food supply, our mental health, and so much more.
On my way to Antarctica, I had an important conversation with my friend Amanda Ravenhill about one of the most critical aspects of climate change and human health—our food system. We also dive into why apathy around climate change is so dangerous.
Amanda is an active member of the international community focused on addressing imminent global challenges. She is the Co-Founder and Founding Executive Director of Project Drawdown, the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming.

How Men's Health Is Affected By Stress & Blood Sugar Imbalance
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and Rupa Health.
Many of us are living our lives out of balance and are stressed from the time we wake up until the time our heads hit the pillow. The problem is that chronic stress causes inflammation and is behind many of the health conditions that affect men specifically. Stress can drive low testosterone, for instance, which is a common problem for men that drives many other health issues.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. George Papanicolaou, Dr. Louis Ignarro, and Jessie Inchauspé about low testosterone and its effects on men, the heart-protective molecule nitric oxide, the importance of minimizing blood sugar spikes, and much more.
Dr. George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for four years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility, where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. In 2000, he founded Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley, MA. He began training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2015, he established Cornerstone Personal Health, a practice dedicated entirely to Functional Medicine. Dr. Papanicolaou joined The UltraWellness Center in 2017.
Dr. Louis Ignarro is a medical research scientist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his breakthrough discovery of how nitric oxide positively impacts health and longevity. His groundbreaking research on nitric oxide paved the way for—among other innovations—Viagra. He is an award-winning Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and has his PhD in pharmacology, with over 35 years of experience teaching.
Jessie Inchauspé holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from King's College London and a master’s degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University.

Prevent Acne By Getting To Its Root Cause
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Athletic Greens, and Vuori.
Acne is the number-one skin condition in the United States, affecting not just millions of teenagers but an increasing number of adults under the guise of hormones. Typically, the first thing we reach for to deal with acne is a lotion, potion, or cream to apply to the skin—and conventional medicine doctors frequently prescribe birth-control pills. However, these approaches do not target the root cause of acne.
In this episode of my Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about the biggest triggers of acne, why we all react differently, and the top nutrients for skin health. We also discuss some frequently asked questions from our community about acne during puberty and more.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry.
