6 Online Course Ideas to Inspire You
Episode 72 – 6 Online Courses to Inspire YouAre you thinking about launching an online program, but haven't taken action yet? This week on the podcast I share the stories of 6 inspiring women, all of whom launched their first online program with my help. Perhaps you're currently delivering 1-to-1 services and you're ready to teach those skills in an online course? Perhaps your people have one specific pain point that you can help them solve? Or maybe your peers in your industry keep asking you to teach them a certain business skill? There really are so many ways you can leverage an existing skill set or audience. I share these 6 examples because there might be something in this episode that gives you an inspired idea for your own online offer. I'm also sharing this because I want you to see that in all of these cases, these women had no prior experience selling online programs. They figured it out along the way, and so will you! And if you're looking for more help on how to get your first online offer out into the world, I invite you to attend my upcoming Masterclass https://www.liannekim.com/launchrookies on how to launch your first online offer. How I took my Business Online
Episode 71 - How I Took My Business OnlineIn this episode, I walk you through the major steps I took to take my business online. In the early days I did a lot of things "in person", but very quickly I realized that I'd be able to help more people if I took my efforts online.I focus on two main areas: 1) how I reached people online (digital marketing) and 2) how I served people online (virtual offers). When it came to digital marketing, I used to struggle hard. I clung to in-person speaking events because it felt easier to me than doing "webinars" which scared me to death. But I learned how webinars worked and I got my first one up and into the world, and it was a game-changer for me. I also walk you through the other ways in which I reached people digitally and I share all the platforms I used (and what I still use today).I then walk you through how I deliver my different services online, from my 1-on-1 and group coaching programs, memberships to online courses... I explain how they all work in my business and the tools we use to execute each one. It's now more important than ever that we learn how to reach and serve people online. If you have been resisting this stuff, we simply can't afford to do that anymore. And trust me... it's all a lot easier than you think. If you've been putting off building that email list or trying webinars, this episode will be the kick in the pants you may need. And, don't forget to join us at Business Bootcamp Virtual Conference. Showing up Strategically on Social Media
Episode 70 - Showing up Strategically on Social MediaDo you ever feel like you're showing up on social media sporadically or "ad hoc" with no real plan or strategy? If so, you are NOT alone. In this episode I sit down with Social Media Strategist Dee Boswell-Buck, who helps female entrepreneurs show up strategically online. Dee shares her story of how she first got started in her business and you won't believe how it happened (hint: She got a sign from the universe via LinkedIn!). She talks about making the leap to go all in on her business and how she now works with women to achieve their business goals by leveraging the power of smart social media. Dee shares the top 3 mistakes that business owners make when showing up on social, and how we can fix those mistakes. We talk "Imposter Syndrome" and the very common fear that we are "bragging" about our business. Dee shares a tone of useful tips and tricks, including your to use metrics and data to help guide our decisions on what content to share and where. We're thrilled to feature Dee as a speaker at our Business Bootcamp Virtual Conference. Dee will be sharing how to leverage LinkedIn to grow our online presence and our business. How to Succeed with Facebook Ads
Episode 69 - How to Succeed with Facebook AdsFacebook ads. They seem like a necessary evil when you want to grow a business. But frustration levels can be very high when you're gritting your teeth behind the ads manager screen, unclear of what you're looking at and why. That's why this week, I sit down with my friend and Facebook Ads Strategist, Alvaro Berrios, and we look at what it takes to succeed with Facebook Ads. We kick things off by dispelling a few common myths about Facebook in general. For example, if you think Facebook ads won't work for you, or that your Dream Client is not on Facebook, you're probably wrong. Alvaro covers a lot when it comes to Facebook Ads Strategy, for example: Key metrics to look at in order to find out if you're on the right track, such as click through rates. How to find and create new audiences to target, so that your ads reach the right peopleHow to create warm audiences with video (and how to retarget those video views later) Understanding our own customer journey and how Facebook ads can help speed up that journeyThe specific ad types to use to achieve specific resultsLastly, we cover a big component of successful marketing -- mindset! If you're expecting immediate results, and you're not willing to test and tweak your ads (ie. you're not willing to make mistakes and try again), then you may be in for a rude awakening. And if you're relying on getting leads for free, it might be time for a mindset check. We need to be willing to invest in acquiring new customers, as all the top businesses do. Thinking Big During Crisis
Episode 68 - Thinking Big During CrisisDuring any time of intense stress or crisis, it's important to keep the big picture in mind. In this episode, I share a few examples of how sometimes we can keep ourselves thinking small and contract inward during times of struggle, when in fact, what we need to be doing is the opposite!I share some motivation to help you to remember your greater vision and mission. Now is the time to reconnect to our "why" and to think more globally. Now is the perfect time to put ourselves in the shoes of others and think about what our people need most. I also recommend looking for new opportunities. Although we are facing new and big challenges, ask yourself these questions; What is the silver lining here? How can you take a negative situation and turn it into a positive result? Where can you pivot and create new opportunities or new revenue streams that you had not previously thought of? I share with you all the silver linings that I and my team have uncovered during this time of crisis. I hope they inspire you to take the ‘lemons’ that life hands you and make your own delicious lemonade. Business with Limited Childcare
Episode 67 – Business with Limited ChildcareIn light of the global Coronavirus crisis, many of you will be in need of strategies to run your business when you have limited childcare. I compiled a list of strategies that you can use when you have limited hours to work on your business, or you need to work with your kids around. My first strategy is to minimize your to-do list by prioritizing those things that really need to get done, vs. the things that don't. Once you have done that you can map out when you plan to tackle each task, based on their level of importance. You can also block off the time you will be in "mom mode" and not working. If you need to get more done, I do encourage you to ask for help from others, even if that's not something you do normally. There are always people willing to help us if we're willing to ask, and I give you a few non-conventional suggestions for finding support. And last but not least, I remind you to show yourself a little compassion. It's OK if it doesn't all get done. Your business will be OK, and so will you.Links mentioned in this episode:The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode #59: Rockin’ Business and Motherhoodhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/59Episode #65: Navigating Crisis Part 2: Strategyhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/65 Episode #61: How I Structure My Weekhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/61Kaili Ets, Wellness Experthttps://kailiets.comTia Slightham, Parenting Experthttps://tiaslightham.comChelsea Stroud, Real Estate Professionalhttp://parkergroup.caDisney+https://www.disneyplus.comNetflixhttps://www.netflix.caConnie Huson, Playroom Consultanthttps://www.conniehuson.comNatalie Therrien, Blog: Kids are Home for 3 Weeks: 40 Ideas to Keep Them Busy!https://bundlebaby.ca/blogs/bundle-baby-blog/kids-are-home-for-3-weeks-40-ideas-to-keep-them-busy?fbclid=IwAR0IvczfdTtYv3AG1czDIAjL9X_e69vqISrdtq8hNToLB_kHzoE-lEBX6B4Emily Edwards, The Good Birth Co.https://thegoodbirthco.podia.comRiikka Wilson, Movement Experthttps://www.riikkawilson.comLianne Kim Coach – Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/liannekimcoach/Mamas & Co.Your online community of smart, passionate mama entrepreneurshttps://www.mamasandco.ca/

How to Make your Content work for You
Episode 63: How to Make your Content work for YouAs I prep for Business Bootcamp 2020, I've been thinking a lot about one of the ways I have grown my business astronomically in the last year, which is Content Marketing. So, I decided to record an episode about how to make our content work for us. I kick off the episode by sharing some of the biggest mistakes I see when it comes to how we approach our content. I feel like we're looking at content in a way that doesn't serve us. As I say in the episode, your audience is not waiting for another blog! Your audience is looking for a transformation within themselves, and they are consuming your content because they believe it will help provide that transformation. So your content is a means of building connection, it helps your audience see you as the person who can get them from where they are now to where they want to be. If your content is doing its job right, it is helping drive interest and traffic to the things you want people to purchase from you (your products and services). Conversely, if your content is not helping people discover how they can work with you, then it's likely falling flat. It might be fabulous content, but if it's not strategic, then it's not helping you grow your business. In short, your content should be helping you reach the business goals that you have set out for yourself. And if it is not, then this episode will help shift the way you think about content, so you can use it as a tool to help you achieve those goals. And finally, I ask you a few compelling questions at the end of this episode that will help you tie all this hard work together. If you're struggling to be more strategic when it comes to your content or to develop a cohesive content plan, then you need this episode! Tarzan shares the platforms where she shows up and what's working for her right now. She pulls back the curtain a little when it comes to her social media and email strategy - super helpful stuff for anyone who's looking to be more visible. The major theme of this episode revolves around having the courage to show up. To be seen and be 100% authentically YOU. How I Structure My Week
Episode 61: How I Structure My WeekThis week I am sharing a bit more about how I structure my week that allows me to achieve my biggest goals and execute on my important habits and rituals. This week's keyword is "structure," and I believe that by structuring our time, we can create more freedom. I share some of my favourite tools and resources (both physical and online) that I have implemented that have helped me get and stay organized so I can accomplish everything I want to in a week. I also talk about how it comes down to knowing ourselves. We have to understand how our minds and bodies work when it comes to our energy levels on any given day. I share a few concepts that I apply to schedule such as "time blocking" and something I call "untouchable time" and explain how to block off and protect time for the things that matter most. I also share how I have specific blocks of time where I am "client-facing," and other times where I am more "behind the scenes" in my business. I describe what I do each day and how I also schedule non-business items such as my workouts and my vacations. If it's important to us, we MUST schedule it in. By scheduling the important stuff, we can then see what "white space" we have available to us in any given week. I know this is an area where a lot of you are struggling, and I think this episode and some of the strategies I describe will help!Links mentioned in this episode:The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode #20: Is it Time to Build a Team?https://www.liannekim.com/blog/20Episode #24: How to Take a Stress Free Vacationhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/24Episode #49: Connection, Not Perfectionhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/49Episode #59: Rockin’ Business and Motherhoodhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/59iCalendar (App)https://apps.apple.com/us/app/icalendar/id4920761052020 Live with Purpose Weekly Plannerhttps://www.amazon.ca/Purpose-Planner-14-Month-Engagement-Calendar/dp/1441331794/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=love+with+purpose+planner&qid=1580504851&s=books&sr=1-3168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You ThinkBy Laura Vandercamhttps://www.amazon.ca/168-Hours-Have-More-Think/dp/159184410XTodd Herman/Context Switchinghttps://toddherman.meFlow: The Psychology of Optimal ExerienceBy Mihaly Csikszentmihalyihttps://www.amazon.ca/Flow-Psychology-Experience-Mihaly-Csikszentmihalyi/dp/0061339202Michael HyattYou Can Win at Work and Succeed at Lifehttps://michaelhyatt.com/

Playing the Long Game
Episode 60: Playing the Long GameI had a great time recording this episode with my business buddy Cindy Wagman of The Good Partnership. Cindy has always been that little bit ahead of me in terms of her business growth. Cindy and I talk about the fact that running and growing a successful business is a marathon and not a sprint, and we talk about some of the mistakes we see newer companies make (that we also made ourselves). Cindy talks about her journey to launch a podcast and her strategy around that (she's super smart btw!) and how she was a big inspiration for me starting this podcast. And we share a few areas where we differ when it comes to podcast strategy and structure (we're friends, but we don't have to agree on everything ;))We talk about where we've both created offers and programs that have flopped and what it looks like to move before we're ready. We both believe that failure is not the opposite of growth; it's a part of the growth. When you play the long game, it means embracing that we're not going to get it right every time. We also talk about the long game when it comes to relationships and how to create lasting, meaningful relationships that are win-win. The difference between entrepreneurs that thrive and entrepreneurs that die? They play the long game. They're not focusing on the quick wins and getting instant results. They know it's a journey full of twists and turns. They're patient, and they fall, they get back up, they try again, they DO. THE. WORK. Rockin’ Business and Motherhood
Episode 59: Rockin’ Business and MotherhoodThis week marks my 8-year anniversary of my becoming a mother, so I decided to open up a bit about my personal life and I share a bit about my motherhood journey. I share how I became a mother and the story of my daughter being born. But the primary reason I recorded this episode was to help give you the tools and strategies to thrive in both your business life and in motherhood. Because I know it is a struggle and a juggle sometimes, but I also know that it IS possible to be a great mom and a great business owner. We do NOT have to choose between the two. Some of the strategies I talk about include some mindset work, saying no to "mom guilt", prioritising, scheduling (and sticking to your schedule)! These are practical concepts that you can start to apply right now that will help you feel more confident in your ability to be effective in both of these areas. I also really believe that we need to surround ourselves with women who are thriving as mothers and business owners. You've heard the expression "it takes a village." We need our village of mama entrepreneurs who understand the very unique challenges to this lifestyle. My Favourite Business Podcasts
Episode 58: My Favourite Business PodcastsThis week I share some of my favourite podcasts that have helped me build my business. The podcasts cover everything from marketing to money to mindset... I really don't know where I'd be today without these audio inspirations! I talk about the first podcast I ever listened to only a few years ago by a huge mentor of mine Amy Porterfield. Her podcast is called Online Marketing Made Easy and when I discovered her she blew my mind with her wealth of knowledge. Amy has really inspired me with her blend of hard-hitting business strategy and lighter, more fun and inspiring style. I share another favourite podcast, my mentor Rick Mulready and I reference a very special episode of his show that I was on, where Rick and I talk all about mindset and playing a bigger game in our businesses. It's a slightly different side of me than you've likely ever seen, and if you're interested in the "inner game" stuff, I recommend you check it out. How to Develop your Money Mindset
Episode 57: How to Develop your Money MindsetIn this episode I talk with interior designer, Melissa Peretti. Melissa takes a deep dive into her journey in developing her money mindset. She talks about the dark place she was in when we first started working together a year ago. For her, she was in a scarcity zone. There was never enough of two things: Time and Money. Melissa shares some of the strategies that she applied that has helped her grow a more positive money mindset such as gratitude practice and visualization. She learned the importance of recognizing the fear around money, and learned how to control it instead. One of the things that really helped Melissa earn more money was getting clear on WHY she wanted to earn more. She recognized that she had a lot of guilt around wealth. She said that to her it felt like wanting more money was a "first world problem" and how she really had to reframe what earning more meant to her. Melissa talks about "doing the work" and how she forced herself to work on the stuff that would make the difference even though it was uncomfortable. We speak about the importance of setting clear financial goals and creating the motivation to achieve those goals. We talk about how a poor money mindset often stems from a recurring thought of "there is not enough" or "I am not enough". Is Your Business Profitable?
Episode 56: Is Your Business Profitable? This week I give you the tools to figure out if your business is profitable or not. We talk about the difference between gross revenue (the big number everyone is talking about) and profit. Because if your business is not profitable, and you can't pay yourself what you're worth, you won't have a business for very long. I review the differences between service-based, product-based and brick and mortar businesses. There are equal amounts of opportunities and pitfalls to watch for in each type of business from a profit margin perspective. I speak openly about which revenue streams in my own business are more profitable, and which ones are less profitable and why I'm OK with that. Lastly, I go into the three main ways you can make your business more profitable. Make more moneySpend less money Make more/Spend less simultaneously! I also list a few of my past episodes that might help you understand these concepts even better while sharing the personal stories of some of my amazing clients. If you feel you are ready for the next step in understanding the numbers side of your business, then I invite you to sign up for my free Mini-Course "Profit Year!" In this course I will help you get clear on what is working on your business and where your focus should be. I'll help you set specific, tangible goals for the year ahead, map out your individual sales targets and give you a road map to take you from where you are to where you want to be. Getting Intentional About Money
Episode 55 – Getting Intentional About MoneyThis week I sit down with Janette Yee, a Perinatal Therapist and a thought leader in Women's Reproductive Health. Janette talks about her mission to help women get the care they need preparing for and recovering from childbirth. Janette talks about how before having her children she was part of a busy downtown clinic, which she loved but that didn’t provide the lifestyle she was looking for with a busy household with two young children. She started her business after her second child was born and quickly learned that being an entrepreneur means that you have to do everything yourself. She immediately appreciated all that the clinic had done for her from an administrative aspect. While Janette knew all about connecting with women to serve, she didn’t know how to manage the rest of her business. Enter Profit & Prosper, a course designed for business owners to take charge of their business finances, goals and mindset. After starting Profit & Prosper, Janette learned how to set her annual financial goals based on her expenses and the lifestyle that she dreamed of living. By starting to make small changes she saw an immediate increase in her bottom line. She was able to drill down and figure out what processes needed to be in place so she was most efficient. She also took a hard look at where she was spending her time and who she was aligning herself with. Janette has figured out what she needs to focus on in order to move the needle forward in her business. She says that small tangible goals is a great place to start, and that we shouldn’t ever be afraid of what we don’t know. How to Feel Great About Money
Episode 54: How to Feel Great About MoneyToo many of us don't feel great about money. If money doesn't make you feel good (and it should), then there is usually a fear or doubt that you should address asap! The number one thing that stamps out fear is intentional and strategic action. In this episode, I give you three strategies that you can use immediately to make a change for the better! To get the most from this episode, you'll want to be sure to have listened to Episode 53: Your 2020 Money Vision. Strategy 1 – Decide to feel great about moneySounds ridiculous, right? If we could all feel great about money, we would do it – wouldn't we? What I mean is that we need to choose to think positive thoughts about the money side of our business. If you need inspiration and guidance on how to do this, check out Episode 3: 5 Money Beliefs That Are Holding You Back.Strategy 2 – Get to know your money How much money is coming in, how much is going out, and how much is left over? It's simple math, really, but taking a deep dive will give you clarity on what changes you can implement to meet your goals. The more we look, the more we know, and the better we feel! When you know what's going on, you can take intentional action to do something about it. Strategy 3 – Take intentional actionTaking intentional action will move the needle in your business. If you notice a lack of clarity in your finances, then it's probably time to take a look at how you are tracking your money. Perhaps it's time to do an audit or create a budget and stick to it. The bottom line is that we should all be committing to do the work and get curious about our money. There should never be feelings of embarrassment or shame around how much we make, but the change needs to happen within ourselves to overcome it. Your 2020 Money Vision
Episode 53 - Your 2020 Money VisionI am so passionate about this topic because I meet far too many women who do not have CLARITY when it comes to the money side of their business. This breaks my heart because it tells me we're acting out of fear, doubt and scarcity. These are low vibe emotions and feeling this way will likely result in business failure. It is so important that we understand how the money side of our business works. And the good news is that it doesn't have to be super complicated. We can start small and take baby steps. Any knowledge in this area is better than living in the dark. How do you want to FEEL when it comes to your money? Kind of a strange question, I know, but I think it's important we start here. Because understanding this emotional side of money is going to help us chart our course for this next year. I ask you several questions about where specifically you need to gain more clarity I share a few of the areas I am currently looking to gain more clarity in our biz financials. I also ask you to think about what you'd like to be paying yourself in 2020 and if you're not paying yourself currently, it's time to start! We talk about investing in your business to create strategic growth, and we dive deep into how you’d like to grow in 2020. I also share my thoughts on the power of consistency when it comes to our habits, beliefs and feelings about money. Basically, be the end of this episode, you should have clarity on what you want to achieve financially in 2020, and pumped up to go out and make it happen!Links Mentioned in this Episode:The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode #3: 5 Money Beliefs Holding You Backhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/3Episode #5: Taking Control of Your Business with Michaela Burnshttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/5Episode #20: Is It Time to Build a Team?https://www.liannekim.com/blog/20Episode #22: Letting Go to Growhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/22Episode #51: Strategic Look Back on 2019https://www.liannekim.com/blog/52 Mini Course: Profit & Prosperliannekim.com/profit

Get Intentional for the Year End
Episode 52: Get Intentional for the Year EndThis week's podcast is actually the audio of a Facebook Live I did within the Mamas & Co. community. I'm big on repurposing content (aka working smarter not harder) whenever possible, and I feel that what we covered in this Facebook Live could be really beneficial to you all as well. This week we're looking ahead to next year and we're getting intention all about what we want to make happen in the next 12 months. If you haven't done it yet, I recommend you take a few minutes to look back on last week's episode where we look back on the last 12 months. Listen to that episode FIRST and do the work, before attempting this week's work. I start by asking you to think about setting intentional financial targets for the year ahead, specifically deciding on your gross revenue goal for 2020.Then I ask you to think about setting two non-financial goals you'd like to achieve in 2020, but with intention. This could be a big milestone you're working towards, like starting a podcast or launching an online course. It could also be a personal goal, such as travel or wellness. Maybe this is the year you plan to hire a coach so you can up-level in 2020. Finally, I dive into the inner game and ask you to think about the mindset that will allow you to achieve these goals. So, if you're looking to work on your "inner game" in 2020 then this is a great place to start!Since this is a Facebook live I share some of the comments that our members shared when this was live, which is kind of fun too! They share some of their words of intention for 2020 and I invite you to think about yours as well. Links mentioned in this episode:Mamas & Co. Strategic Look Back on 2019
Episode 51: Strategic Look Back on 2019The end of the year is generally a good time for reflection and goal setting. When you think of the last year of your business, what comes to mind? Do you think of the goals you set for yourself a year ago? I’ll bet you beat yourself up over the ones you weren’t able to accomplish, or maybe you will carry them over and try again this year. But is that really the right strategy? In this episode, I go over the framework for reviewing your successes over the past year. You have likely accomplished a lot more than you give yourself credit for. If you are only looking at the big milestones, you are missing out on the steps that it took to achieve them. So even if a milestone isn’t realized, there will have been steps taken in the past year to get closer and those steps should be celebrated. It’s very important to focus on the smaller, not so noticeable wins. So, what happened in the last year that feels really great? What were your 2019 goals? It’s important not to beat yourself up if you didn’t achieve everything you thought you would in the last year. Resist the temptation to judge yourself, instead objectively look back at your goals and reflect on why they weren’t achieved. The reason may be something that was completely out of your control. Perhaps something else in your business became a priority instead. What did you learn in 2019? Count everything you learned in the past year as an accomplishment in your business. Consider what you learned in your business, about the people you serve as well as yourself. How would you like to feel in 2020? Do you want to feel brave? Proud? Calm? Focused? If we aren’t feeling excited, nervous or maybe a bit scared then it probably means that we aren’t pushing ourselves all that hard.As we wrap up 2019 and get into 2020, think about where you can strengthen your inner game next year. Thriving During Stressful Times
Episode 50: Thriving During Stressful TimesWhat does crunch time look like for you? Managing an event, online launch or the high season in your business can wreak havoc on your stress levels. Maybe a stressful situation has popped up when you least expected it to, and you now find yourself with a thousand things on your mind and a to-do list that’s a mile long. In this episode, I talk about the strategies I use when I’m in “crunch time.” Physical BodyIf we don’t take care of ourselves, then we could get sick or injured, which will only compound our stress. Instead, it’s crucial to think about what you need to thrive during an intense period. I talk about taking care of myself physically, which, for me, means staying hydrated, eating clean, getting lots of exercise and proper rest. I do my best not to overdo anything, and I create a routine which my body loves. MindDuring times of high stress, we often let negative and doubtful thoughts in. These are often unreasonable, but it’s a natural response to set ourselves up, so we don’t get hurt. To combat this, I spend a few moments every morning doing a thought download; this gets it all out of my brain. Be sure to spend time focusing on what inspires you and set aside any negativity in your life. SoulIt’s essential to feel good inside ourselves when the stakes are high, or during a stressful time. I find it helpful to make a list of everything that makes me feel good, such as spending time with friends and loved ones, outdoor walks, movie nights, or taking a bath. Everyone is different, so pick what works for you and write it down. Once you have a list, you can choose something from there when you feel overwhelmed It’s been my experience that entrepreneurs (especially females) tend to pile on the tasks when things get busy instead of taking a step back to assess whether it’s essential or a priority. Many of us feel like we have to do everything, instead of delegating tasks that someone else could do on our behalf. When we find ourselves in this situation, it’s important to ask for and accept help wherever we can find it. It’s also imperative to keep everything in perspective. Do the fine details matter? Remember that nothing is perfect, and we are all learning as we grow in our entrepreneurial journeys. To operate as your highest self, and don’t focus on everything being perfect. Instead, trust that’s it’s enough.Links mentioned in this episode:Mamas & Co.Your online community of smart, passionate mama entrepreneurshttps://www.mamasandco.ca Melanie Suhterland Body Co.https://bodycotoronto.com The Business of Thinking Big PodcastShifting from Practitioner to Leaderhttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/27Is It Time to Build a Team?https://www.liannekim.com/blog/20Silvia SilvaAnchor Studiohttps://anchorstudio.ca

Connection, Not Perfection
Episode 49 - Connection, Not PerfectionThis week I share some thoughts about overcoming perfectionism. I share a little bit about my journey from being a perfectionist to the woman I am today, which is more accepting of myself and my limitations. These days, perfect is not the goal for me. And I truly believe that perfect should not be the goal for any of us. I share the reasons that perfectionism will hold you back, and why getting things done is a much better strategy for success in business. I also share how perfectionism affects your audience and your bottom line. When we focus on perfect, we're focusing on ourselves, which means we're not focusing on the people who need us. So let's flip that. Let's focus on the connection we want to make with our community and how we can help them. I share more about exactly how we can do this and the powerful ways this can transform us. I also revisited my thoughts on perfection and what we can focus on to overcome this. I hope you find this episode helps you get unstuck and helps you take action. Meaningful Swag for your Business with James Hodgson
Episode 48: Meaningful Swag for your Business with James HodgsonIn this episode I sit down with my brother, James Hodgson, who owns the company Nish Tees in Peterborough, Ontario. He is an incredible graphic designer, silk screener and an expert on branded swag. James has 20 years in this industry under his belt, so he is an expert at all things swag. We outline the 3 biggest mistakes that he sees companies make when choosing swag for their business, and how they can be avoided. DelegatingMany business owners have the idea that there isn’t enough time to decide what the swag is for, so it’s delegated to someone else in the business, where it loses its creative input. Business’s should be thinking about the end result they would like to achieve before deciding on swag for their business. Understand the VisionCreating swag that is clear and concise is important, as is being clear about what the end result is going to look like. Taking the time to ensure that the end product matches the vision will save time, frustration and money for both you and your supplier. Expecting Champagne on a Beer BudgetYou get what you pay for. What’s important when purchasing swag for your raving fans is that you have considered all the options before making a final decision. Whatever you hand them, whether it be a giveaway, a bonus or simply a gift of appreciation tells them how you show up in your business. In the end, we want to be careful to hand out items that will be appreciated, used and valued. Spending time with your vendor to consider your options within your budget is key. Defining Your Version of Success
Episode 47 – Your Version of Success with Melanie TapsonMelanie Tapson, a mom of two and a voice therapist, shares her journey as an entrepreneur. She tells her story about how she got into doing the very unusual work that she does and what her business looked like in the early days. She talks about how she used to define success by working hard and seeing as many clients as possible. This, as it turns out, is the formula for hitting burn out. She goes into detail about how, instead of thinking about investing in herself or even being an entrepreneur, she was thinking more about how she could help individuals. Melanie had no idea what success would look like for her and admits to suffering from low self-esteem. Melanie raves about the benefits of A-Players group coaching. The benefits she found in this environment were many, but most notably, how the other women in the group inspired and enlightened her. She also points out the importance of surrounding yourself with people who “get” what you do for reassurance and support. Before being part of the group, she hadn’t thought of self-care as a priority, goal or measure of success. It had never occurred to her to put herself first; she feels that by doing what is expected of her was what it took to be successful. The conversation moves to clarity – Melanie talks about how she checks in regularly with herself. This ensures that the work she does still lights her up brings her joy and cause to celebrate. To accomplish this, she had to reframe her thinking, give herself permission to think about what was inside her heart and make time for it. We also discuss the importance of time, a precious commodity in itself. There are questions that we should all be asking ourselves, and strategies that can be used to ensure we are using our time most effectively. So, to define our success, we must focus on shifting to a more joyful existence, which will help us create the life we want. It’s important to stop every once in a while, check in and enjoy the moment.Links mentioned in this episode: Melanie Tapson Voice Carehttps://melanietapson.comInstagram @melantietapsonvoicecareA-Players Group Coaching Programhttps://www.mamasandco.ca/coachingWe mention a few of the other women in Melanie's coaching group:Melissa Peretti https://melissaperetti.comSacha LeeAeon Designhttps://www.aeondesign.caRebecca LaneUpper Beaches Musichttps://www.upperbeachesmusic.com

Building Powerful Relationships with Chelsea Stroud
Episode 46 – Building Powerful Relationships with Chelsea StroudI sit down with a long-time client Chelsea Stroud of Parker Group Real Estate who is seriously the kindest, most positive person you will ever meet. Chelsea is a gifted relationship builder and understands that business is the long game, and she is in it to win it. She shares the awkward start to her real estate journey and all the things she did to get customers. Some strategies were effective, others were not. As she says, she was "doing whatever it took" to achieve what she wanted and she was willing to try anything, even if it meant failing. We talk about using our positivity and personalities as a magnet to draw the right people to us. We also acknowledge that relationship building is a special skill and Chelsea gives her top tips on how to do it right. Finding new clientsChelsea strives to ensure that when people think of real estate they think of her. Her advice on where to meet clients is simple, be in places you enjoy and talk to people! Sometimes she organizes coworking days for other entrepreneurs, it’s a chance to get everyone out into the world instead of working alone. Being willing to just create something is key. Building relationshipsBuilding long standing relationships is key, as is learning to nurture people in general. Some of our best clients are like us in many ways, which is why hanging out in places where you are comfortable works so well. The competitionThe real estate field is saturated, so in order to stand out Chelsea genuinely cares and makes a point to really listen to her clients and get to know their needs. She is aware that as the business evolves, she must look for ways to add value in order to retain clients, and it’s not a cookie cutter approach. Another strategy that works is keeping time in her calendar to respond to new business requests, so leads don’t get cold. MistakesWe chat about how when a project or contract has been completed, it’s important to keep in touch with the client, whether on social media or by inviting them to events periodically just to keep in touch. Many business owners forget about the client after the work is completed. Sending a birthday message or putting a comment on social media goes a long way for keeping in touch. Going All In With Alana Kayfetz
Episode 45 - Going All In With Alana KayfetzIn this episode, I speak with Alana Kayfetz, the founder and CEO of MomsTO. When thinking of the topic of going All In, she’s the first person that comes to mind! Alana outlines how her love of bringing people together, along with the trials and tribulations of becoming a parent inspired her to build a community of moms who would support each other, and from that MomsTO was born. The Side HustleAlana outlines how her journey into entrepreneurship was accidental. Like many new mothers, she had dreamed of what this time in her life would be like, but the reality of being a new parent was a shock. Her first child was born in the fall and found herself with a young baby at home for months during a long Canadian winter. She joined mommy/baby groups in her area and found a common theme at these events; the other moms weren’t communicating with each other. Alana, an expert at building communities and bringing people together, decided that she could change that. MomsTO, a community-based organization that focuses on the parent experience, supportive and dynamic programs about parenthood and events, both live and in person. It evolved into a dynamic relationship, where women are kinder and gentler to themselves and others. The Ah-Ha! MomentThe AH-HA moment that brought Alana to where she is today started in a baby group meeting, where she was asked what her personal mission was. In the moment, she realized that to achieve what she wanted, she had to go ALL IN, give it her full focus instead of it being her side hustle. This decision was not made lightly; part of our discussion covers the uncertainty, risks and logistics around leaving permanent employment in pursuit of entrepreneurship. The Big LeapWhile stepping away from her regular paycheque was a considerable risk, Alana talks about how having the courage to jump in and how having someone who believes in you are essential to being successful. The secret is loving what you do 80% of the time while allowing 10% of it to suck as long as the remaining 10% makes you feel elated. She also talks about being intentional with your time, to plan when you work, spend time with family and spend time on yourself. Getting PaidAlana found she had so many big ideas on how she could add value to her raving fans. She was always looking for ways to give these moms a great day to enhance their parenting experience, but she was burning herself out on events. She hired a business coach (me!), and together we streamlined and doubled down on her efforts. It was shocking at how fast the business has changed in a short time. She has now launched The Mom Halo - a membership-based community, adding even more value and scaling her business in a way she’d never imagined. She found that once she was able to overcome her own insecurity, she was able to give the best of herself to the paid membership community. No Mom Left BehindAlana admits that while it’s extraordinary to become a mother, getting through the early stages is often hard – just like entrepreneurship. Associations are significant in both. Growing your Business with Facebook Groups
Episode 44 - Growing your Business with Facebook GroupsIn this episode, I share my top 5 strategies on how to leverage the power of Facebook groups to grow your business. I share some very important do's and don't's that will help you get more out of the experience. Choose the right groups with the right peopleBeing part of groups on Facebook is essential for many reasons. It can help you to understand what your competitors are doing, keep in touch with your peers, provide answers to questions or feedback on ideas you have and learn new things. It's vital to choose the right group with the right people. Take into consideration what you can provide and what you'll receive when joining a group. There are many free groups to choose from, but many are saturated with sales pitches, which dilute the conversation. Paid groups tend to offer more high-quality conversation, and will often have more of a "community" feel. Being part of 2 or 3 groups at most is more than enough, so be sure to choose the ones that suit your needs. Seek to serve first What can you offer within the group guidelines that will enhance the group? If you aren't sure, then don't be shy, reach out to the group owner or admin(s) and ask if what you want to post is allowed. It's always best to start a conversation or chime into conversations where you can add value. In doing this, you will show up as an expert in your field. Answer the callMake use of the search bar on the left side of the screen while in the group. Search a keyword that is most relevant to your area of expertise, then list the results in date order with the most recent at the top. Read through and see if you are able to contribute to any of the most recent posts that are relevant to your business. It's honestly that simple – if the poster responds with additional questions, you could ask them to DM you for more information. The great thing about this is that as I mentioned above, showing up online in posts will help to prove to others that you are the expert in your field. Engage with your postsStart a conversation, ask a question on a topic that is meaningful to you, or ask for feedback. Make it relevant to the people in the group, and include a call to action. (Example: "Comment below to share your opinion.") Go the extra mile! Look for other opportunities within the group that you aren't leveraging. How can you engage and inform your audience without asking for anything in return? Groups are often looking for experts to contribute something such as a webinar, a Facebook Live or a talk. Prove that you can do what you say, and you will become seen as a teacher or educator within the group. Facebook groups can be a great way to grow your business, but it's a learned skill, so I hope you take these strategies and apply them. Links mentioned in this episode:Mamas & Co. Up-Level Your Community
Episode 43 - Up-Level Your CommunityThis week I'm sharing an epiphany I had in the pool while swimming laps one day. I realized that I swim in two very different pools with different clientele, and because of this, my performance is quite different depending on which pool I am in. I realized that the environment we are in and the people we surround ourselves with dictate our performance and our results. When surrounded by people who are operating at the next level, we tend to rise to meet them. When we surround ourselves with people at our level or beneath us, we tend to stagnate. In fact, I often say, "If we're the smartest person in the room, we're in the wrong room." I know from personal experience that when I surround myself with true A-Players at the top of their game, I adopt their behaviours and habits, and I learn from what they are doing, and as a result, I achieve more success in less time. In short, they help me fast track my results. I talk you through a few essential questions that will help you uncover if you're swimming in the right pool or not, and I highly recommend you take the time to answer them. You may find that it's time to take action to up-level your community. Who is currently inspiring you? Who is answering your questions? Who is challenging you?Who is lifting you higher? Who is helping you connect with others and grow your network? We often don't do this because as women, we believe that we should be able to do it alone, and hate to admit it when we find out we do much better when we have the right connections. The secret recipe is simple: Connect you to people you should or need to know. These individuals will Support you in your journey. They will ultimately Inspire you to get to the next level. Dealing with Imposter Syndrome
Episode 41 – Dealing with Imposter Syndrome with Kayse MorrisJoin me while I sit down with one of my lovely business buddies, Ms. Kayse Morris. Kayse has grown a powerful community of "Teacher CEO’s.” We share the real and the raw in this episode and we don't sugar coat anything, so if you want and honest look at the inner game of two female online entrepreneurs, then you'll want to tune in. Kayse constantly inspires me by all the amazing things she has accomplished over the last 7 years. Her journey is nothing short of remarkable. I even admit how when I first met Kayse I was very intimidated by her and how I learned to embrace this feeling and use it as fuel for my own success. We talk about how everyone struggles with self-doubt and imposter syndrome, which are absolute killers for entrepreneurs. Because it shows up for so many of us, we chat about some of the strategies that have worked for both of us to get us out of a funk and into positive action! We also get real about our lives as mothers, as wives and how it can sometimes be hard to find the right balance. We share our experiences around dealing with "mom guilt" and "mean girls" and something I have dubbed "success guilt.” We analyze how our beliefs affect how we see ourselves, and how we grow when we pivot, realign and “flip the script.” We finish our conversation with Kayse’s strategy for success, which is “constant, persistent action to move forward.” Keep your eye on the prize in order to stay focused, and ultimately it will pay off. Network Like a Boss
Episode 40 – Network Like a BossWith massive growth in the online business world, we are finding that people aren’t meeting in person nearly as much as in past years. Networking is becoming hard because we are out of practice! However, networking is a very important skill to have, so in this episode, I will outline the most common mistakes, and give you some valuable tips on what you can do to make your next networking event a success!Think back to an event where you made a connection with another entrepreneur. It’s likely that you have a good memory of them because when meeting them in person you were able to read their body language and make eye contact. The quality of that connection is better because you were live and in person. We are not intentional. Many of us sign up for events we feel we “should” go to but aren’t that excited about. We purchase a ticket, then forget about the event until the day of, then we rush to it unprepared. This is not showing up with intention. Mindset, Strategy and Intentional Action will set you up for success.Quantity, not Quality. Some of us believe that going into an event and meeting every single person in the room would make any event a success.Tips for Networking SuccessBe selective when choosing which events to attend. Go to events that excite you, where your dream clients will be!Get clear on the desired result. What is your goal for this event? Once you decide what you want to get out of the event, visualize the whole day in advance (but in fast forward). Start by visualizing getting ready, travelling to the event, arriving, meeting people and making connections.Aim for three new quality connections. Who is it that you want to meet? If it’s a customer, then make it your dream customer, your raving fan. Remember, if you go and hang with people you know, you aren’t growing your network! Finally, take it to the next level by reaching out a day or two after the event. Offer to meet for coffee, or some other call to action to carry the relationship forward! Hopefully, there is a way that you and your new business besties can help each other!Links Mentioned in this Episode:This week's episode is sponsored by my annual conference for mama entrepreneurs MamaConhttps://www.mamasandco.ca/mamaconI mention our keynote Jill Stanton: ... who was actually the guest on our show last week: https://www.liannekim.com/blog/39 I reference the podcast interview I did with my client Candice about live events for your business: https://www.liannekim.com/blog/34 I reference my first podcast when I talk about taking "Intentional Action": https://www.liannekim.com/blog/1I also share a silly story of how I met one of my business besties, Cindy Wagman at a networking event. 3 Shifts to Up-level your Success
Episode 39 – 3 Shifts to Up-level your SuccessThis week Lianne sits down with Online Entrepreneur extraordinaire Jill Stanton of Screw the Nine to Five. Jill shares her from her first online business to the birth of her well-known online community Screw the Nine to Five, which she has run with her hubby Josh Stanton for many years. She talks about how she became a mother at the height of her business success and how that forced them to take the space to reassess their priorities and get clear on what they really wanted to create. Jill talks about the fears that come up for us business owners and having the courage to ask ourselves what we actually want and trust in our own instincts, even when it’s scary. Sometimes it takes giving up good to realize greatness. She shares her definition of Affiliate Marketing which is their current business model and talks about her recent up-level since challenging their own beliefs and seeking for more alignment. She believe there are 3 fundamental shifts we can all start to make that will enable us to reach new levels of success in our business: Dealing with the judgement of others“What will people think of me if… “Many of us have a real fear around this, but allowing others to have this control over you (whether they realize it or not) will dim who you are. Confidence, caring, and self-approval will unleash your possibilities. Wanting an outcome vs. Committing to an outcome. The business is really overwhelming and often emotional, then we stop showing up, and we lose momentum. The trick is to want to have a business to being committed and having the business of your dreams. Wanting = not having. Committed = getting it done. 5 Reasons to Build an Online Course
Episode 38 – 5 Reasons to Build an Online CourseIf you have been thinking about building your first online course, but aren’t sure where to start or haven’t acted yet, then this episode is for you! The idea of building an online course can be daunting. Maybe it’s the tech side of what’s involved, or its the time it takes to create the course (because you are so busy working on all things in your business) that is causing you to hold back. The thing about online courses is that building one means you are creating sustainable business. This will help you grow, scale and reach new heights. Here are five reasons to build an online course. To help more people Why did you start your business in the first place? It’s likely because you have a skill and ability or talent and could help others move forward and improve the quality of their lives. If you are stuck waiting for the next lead or client, then you may be ready to start thinking about this as a viable option for your business. If you have a skill that’s in demand, if you can teach, then you can create an online course! It’s a one-to-many option which will help you reach many people at a time. Work smarter, not harder By leveraging what you already know, you won’t have to reinvent the wheel to put together an online course. If you already have webinars or podcasts on your subject, they only need to be tweaked to be used for this purpose. So, collect your worksheets, video’s, PDF’s, audio files, and bundle them into a course. While 1 to 1 coaching and consulting is excellent, 1 to many offers can be a much more profitable option. Keep in mind that the first course likely won’t provide a massive profit, because you’ve spent so much time building and putting the course together. However, each time you launch it, your profit will go up exponentially! Build your credibility, big timeWhen you offer an online course, you then become an authority in that topic. Every time I launch one of my courses, I also become more visible. Teaching what I know gives my students a first-hand look at what working with me would be like, and often they reach out to me for more information about other programs I offer. Future-Proof your BusinessThere came a time when I couldn’t be at work because of a family emergency. Life happens, and sometimes we can’t show up and do the work that we are being paid to do. As entrepreneurs, if we don’t show up, there’s no pay. This is the perfect example of how building an online course can future-proof your business. Relying on 1-to-1 coaching or services isn’t sustainable forever. We need to create a program that doesn’t require you to be there 100% of the time. To challenge yourselfCreating an online course isn’t as daunting as you think it is. I know it feels like a lot, but the hard part is done if you’ve honed your craft. Think about what your clients ask for the most, and how you could best serve others in an online course and start putting it together. By only ever doing what you’ve only ever done, your business will become stagnant and flatline. It’s essential to continue to grow and challenge ourselves, and take intentional action and steps towards obtaining new goals. Besides, reasons are just excuses masquerading as reasons. Scaling with Online Courses
Episode 37 - Scaling with Online Courses In this episode, I chat with a former client who has a remarkable story. Rosalee Lahai-Hera of Baby Sleep Love opens up about her journey from overworked, underpaid and burnt out to a thriving business owner with multiple online offerings. Initial Challenges and ShiftsRosalee talks about some of the initial challenges she faced when she first started. The biggest was realizing that she was undercharging for her services and as a result, too many clients were buying (we talk about how a high conversion rate is a real problem in business). The issue here is time. Rosalee was spending all her time on her business, which was affecting the time she wanted to spend with her family. After taking a hard look at her business, she restructured her packages down to two and raised her rates. This was a very successful strategy, but it created a new problem. Rosalee felt that she had eliminated a whole group of families from those she wanted to serve. The answer to this was the creation of an online course. Online Course IntroductionOnline courses are a great alternative to 1 to 1 coaching, as it allows for self-guided instruction at a reduced cost. Rosalee tells her story of how and why she introduced her first online course and how that worked within her business model. Creating and launching the course was a big investment in time and energy, but it’s paying off as Rosalee is now reaching more clients. She warns that with this type of learning, it’s important to stay in touch with her students to ensure their success. FearsWe talk about some of the oh-so-common initial worries people have about shifting from 1 to 1 client work to one-to-many online offers and how she overcame those fears (hint: loss of money and control are involved). Rosalee and I both offer strategies for creating a successful online course. There is also discussion about money, rates, packages and the time involved with running an online course. So, if you’re struggling to figure out how to shift your business so that you can scale it with something like an online course, this episode will give you lots of inspiration and tangible tips. Developing an online course is exciting; being able to see where your business is going next and how you can change lives is the best part of entrepreneurship! Selling your Expertise
Episode 36 – Selling Your Expertise with PromoIn today’s episode, I have a candid conversation with Tammatha Denyes, the CEO of TD Accounting Services, a forward-thinking and growth-oriented accounting practice that focuses on providing services to businesses in an online environment. Tammatha tells a story of significant personal loss, how it affected her business and the lessons she learned. She then outlines the steps she took to move forward in life and business. Unlike other accounting practices, she and her team believe that business owners should use the most technologically advanced tools to make informed business decisions. TD Accounting Services focus’ on providing bookkeeping advisory services to bookkeepers who are either just starting, or are ready to learn how to navigate new, cloud-based accounting systems. So many female entrepreneurs struggle with the money side of their business, Tammatha empowers business owners to understand and be in control of their finances because not paying attention to them could be the demise of a business. 50% of companies close their doors in the first year because they aren’t in control of their finances, and don’t know where their money is going. We also talk a lot about the importance of mindset while building a business. She was active on Social Media and soon found that she had become a leader in her field. When she decided to try coaching out for the first time, her first course filled up in a matter of days. Tammatha relays the importance of this course, how it not only served her raving fans but how it turned into research for the next big step in her business. Finish 2019 Strong
Episode 35 – Finish 2019 StrongSuccess requires planning, and planning requires focus. But where do we start? Let’s be honest for a minute. You know, deep in your heart that if you don’t get clear now, it won’t happen. You don’t want to be disappointed come year end! By getting clear now, you can focus on what you want to achieve in the next 4 months, which for many of my peeps is the most powerful and profitable time of the year. In this episode I walk you through exercises and strategies to ensure that you have what you need to finish 2019 on a high note. I recommend that you grab a pen and paper, don’t just listen this week, actually do the work! Mindset is the foundation for everything. Then comes strategy, and finally intentional action. These three things individually won’t get you where you want to go in your business, but you will set yourself up for success if you use all three! Tune in to this episode (which is really what coaching with me would look like) and set yourself up for success. Events That Grow Your Business
Episode 34 - Events that Grow your Business with Candice TulsieramIn this day and age, there are SO many people doing what you do, so how do you stand out? By creating a Signature Event that elevates your brand! The energy at a live event cannot be captured any other way. Live events are a great way to help you stand out in the crowd. The Big PictureBe sure to set clear goals on what you wish to achieve from your event. Think about the purpose, is it an anniversary or a product launch? How would you like your guests to feel about your event? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so it’s okay to take ideas from events that you have attended and loved and add in your own unique flair. EngagementWe live in an age of engagement, and everyone wants to be part of something. Attendees expect that you know them already, so anticipate their needs and build them into the event programming. Look for ways to make it fun and engaging, creative signage, networking exercises and breaks between speakers are great ways to nurture attendees. Be unique and think outside the box. When it’s overThe job doesn’t end when the doors close. Be sure that you do not miss the opportunity to build on the momentum after your event. Sign vendors, speakers and/or sponsors up for the next year. Be sure to survey your attendees during and/or after your event. The comments and suggestions you receive from them are pure gold! A word about marketingPrior to your event, be sure to create as much buzz as possible through IG and FB posts, leverage others involved to spread the word on their social media as well. Create unique hashtags that will get the attention of your desired audience, and engage influencers and get everyone talking! Also, print copy is a great way to spread the word, see if you can write an article for a relevant magazine or newsletter. On the day of the event Put processes in place to capture real-time testimonials that can be used to market future events. Get on social media during the event and post pictures or video of how it’s going so far. Your audience, who is not in attendance, will see what they are missing, all while still feeling involved in a small way. You will capitalize on their fear of missing out, and likely won’t miss your next event! Best advice – just get started! You won’t know how things will work out if you don’t try, so don’t let your fears hold you back! Is It Time To Hire A Coach?
Episode 33 - Is it Time to hire a Coach?97% of all 7-figure business owners have a coach. Hiring a coach can be a complete game-changer in! A lot of people think they need to wait until they have things all figured out before they hire a coach, when in fact hiring a great coach is the thing that will help you figure things out and move forward. So how do you know when it’s time to invest? If your concept is well received, and you are selling products or services, your clients are getting results, or if you are changing someone’s life and generating revenue, then you have what is called “Proof of Concept.” If you are not at this stage, then you are not ready for a coach. A great coach is an investment, but if hiring one would create a strain on your finances, then now is not the time. When your business is consistently earning, your clients are happy, and you are busy, then timing may be right! If you suffer from feelings of stress, anxiety and overwhelm, or if you find yourself always scrambling to complete work IN your business, but never find the time to work ON your business, then it’s probably time for a coach. So, what type of coach should you hire? Well, now that depends! The best strategy for this is to figure out what you are lacking or what you wish you could achieve. Once you know that, you need to find the coach who specializes in that area. It could be a business goal, or a personal one. We need to be mindful that our personal and business lives affect one another, so if we are struggling in one, the other will often also suffer. But know this: You do not need to have everything figured out before you hire a coach! You will know you have found the right person for the job if you feel good about the decision that you have made. Good coaches are not cheap, so keep in mind that hiring the right coach to suit your needs is going to be an investment in your future. Many coaches will offer references and free trials so you can talk to others about their experience and even try it out for yourself. Listen in to learn about the three coaches that I hired, why I hired them, and how it all worked out! High VS. Low Season in Business
Episode 32 - High vs. Low Season in your Business People that make time for breaks are more successful and tend to be more productive. On a micro level, this could be time blocking; working hard for a few hours, then taking a walk or a break. On a macro level, it could mean planning out blocks of time. It’s helpful for us to know and anticipate where the high and low seasons are. I realized that 90-day planning doesn’t work for me; my business works better on a trimester model. Once I discovered this, it completely changed the way I operate! The Trimester Model: 1st Trimester – Fall (September – December) During this time, I find that most people are looking to grow their business; the kids are back to school, and everyone is hustling. I run a big conference, and my clients are busy, which means I’m working with them, I also offer courses during this time. 2nd Trimester (January – April)January – a fresh start, a new year which brings new goals and resolutions. January through April are always very busy. During this trimester, I run the Forces of Nature retreat for remarkable women. There are also courses, lots of client work and a spring conference. This is my busiest time, and I find that by the end of April, I am pretty much burned out and ready to take a break. 3rd Trimester – (May – August)Historically, this is the quietest time for my business. So, I’ve embraced this season and work my business around it. During this time, I take family vacations and carve out more time for myself. In the high season, you will find me as super focused, with my head down executing marketing, offers, talks and webinars. There is selling, online launches, events and conferences. There is literally no time for anything else. However, during my low season, I do not work on executing marketing campaigns or selling. I still show up on social media and serve my clients as needed, but during this time, I tend to work on other stuff, and I love it. Personally, during my low season, I spend more time with my kids, exploring the city, reading and date nights with my husband. Professionally during this time, I am still serving clients, but I will take time to map out the year ahead, starting in September. I map out events and anchors, and I do things that I don’t want to have to worry about during my busy season. I sign up and complete online courses that will benefit my business, so I’m geared up and ready for September when it comes. Basically, by embracing the ebb and flow of my business, I maximize my time and energy and anticipate what is to come. We all need breaks; if we were in a constant state of stress, we would be unhappy and unfulfilled. Working harder doesn’t necessarily mean being more productive. It's such a big part of the entrepreneurial journey, and something both of us do regularly. So why isn't anyone talking about it? Jen talks about her biggest failure (and it was a doozy), and how she grew from the experience. She says "Our biggest failures give us the lessons we need to learn." We also have to keep in mind that maybe the thing we are trying isn't quite right, but it's not necessarily a failure. Perhaps we need to take a step back, reflect and adjust to get it right. When we think of failure, many of us worry about being judged by others. Who are we accountable to if we failed? Family? Clients? Will this failure be the end of the business, or would it just be a blip? Resilience is vital, and we can't achieve great things without it. If an idea or product is in line with your company values and is something you believe in, then it's worth it to take a chance. Remember the old saying "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" though, and be mindful of risks. Make sure the business is set up in case things don't go as planned. The road to an end goal for an entrepreneur is never a straight route, but it's the twists and turns that make it the most enjoyable! Failure is not the problem, it's a piece of the journey. Jennifer Myers Chua and her husband Joey are a husband and wife team who own Hip Mommies, a Toronto based distributor of modern, thoughtfully designed baby, toddler and pet products. They pride themselves on partnering with businesses that share the same socially responsible and environmentally friendly beliefs, as well as quality products that are purposeful, safe and well designed. Dealing With Dry Spells
Episode 30 – Dealing with Dry Spells We need sales to survive, but what happens when we have gone several weeks (or worse) months without a sale? That is a dry spell. As humans we are hard wired to want to achieve, to get the gold star or the pat on the back. So dry spells can be dangerous to entrepreneurs, and rest assured even the most successful businesses go through them. During these times we go into a funk, and tend to get down on ourselves which causes our confidence to wane. When this happens, it affects how we show up for our clients, and our sales conversations suffer as a result. During the time when things are slow, we should be focusing on learning more about ourselves and our business. It’s an opportunity to take the time we need to slow down, so that later we can speed up. Look inward, where you focus is, and where your energy is going. Is your offer landing in front of the right person? Are you attracting the right client? Think about your sales conversations, what energy you are putting out. Mindset, and making sure that you show up from a place of ultimate service. Train your mindset daily with visualization and gratitude practice. Be strategic with your dry-spell by looking forward to the next quarter or busy season. Take the time now to map out the major anchors and events, and start working on some of the items that need to be done in advance. Enjoy it! Sometimes the universe has a way of telling us what we need, so if we aren’t making sales maybe it’s because we need to slow down and focus on something else. Whatever it is, make sure you use your time wisely while you have it! Business Partnerships
Episode 29: Business PartnershipsWhen you think about your business, you can easily identify the tasks that keep it running like a well-oiled machine. I would also bet that you can identify which of these tasks you know you’ll procrastinate doing because they just aren’t your thing. That’s okay. I get it, sometimes those tasks take the joy out of business ownership. This episode is a conversation with Meghan and Alex from Toronto Family Doulas, and they don’t hold back about what it takes to be in a successful business partnership. The good, the bad and the ugly, they cover it all. Both women were used to doing things separately, and they cover what it was like to learn how to do things together, adapting to new processes and up-levelling their communication. Each of them brought very different strengths to the business, and they had to identify a clear understanding of each and their long-term goals in order to make it work. They offer their advice to anyone considering entering into a business partnership. Reasons why they each needed a partner in order to make each of their business’ whole and how it has grown both the business and themselves in the process. What qualities to look for in a potential business partner, they cover a list of conversations that should be had before entering an agreement. Such as expectations for what each individual will contribute, personal short and long term goals and where each sees the business going. These are all factors in setting the partnership up for success. Their journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. They identify how their partnership is much like a marriage. There have been times when they haven’t been too happy with each other. Communication in these cases has been key, and the end result has helped them set up boundaries and come out of these situations stronger than ever. Meghan and Alex have clearly defined their roles within the business. Each has a feeling of trust and calm knowing the other is doing their part. There is camaraderie in their offices, they bounce ideas off each other regularly and have become friends through their business. Torontofamilydoulas.com

Shifting From Practitioner To Leader
Episode 27 Shifting from Practitioner to Leader with Melanie Stevens Sutherland In this episode we look at some of the fears and challenges people face when shifting from being a practitioner to a team leader. Melanie shares where she was two years ago in her business and how she needed to make some changes heading into her second maternity leave. She wanted to work, but a traditional environment wasn’t working for her or her family. Many women feel as though they have to choose between being a great mother and a great businesswoman. The thing is, you can have both but sometimes you need to create your own situation in order to gain that freedom. Let’s talk money! Entrepreneurs love making money (who doesn’t), but so many of us do not take a hard look at where are dollars are coming from, and where they are going. Being happy to just “pay the bills” isn’t a solid business strategy. Mel talks about how when she took a step back she was able to take a hard look at her projections and targets. Mindset Melanie always wanted to be a “good boss.” She equated this with having her staff like her, instead of assisting them to grow. While portraying compassion and kindness is vital as a leader, the business must be put first in order to grow. Melanie learned that taking the personal feelings out of the equation helped her, her business and her employees. Leadership Mel talks about how her leadership style has developed and evolved. Where she used to micromanage, she now admits that surrounding herself with a team who are excellent at what they do was a much better strategy. She has found it much easier to relinquish control when she trusts that her practitioners will do what they do best. Well, how did she do it? With a willingness to change and go with the flow of course! She aligned herself with people she knew would grow and shine in her business, and allowed them the freedom to do so. Melanie realized that in order to “grow” the business she couldn’t be “in” the business. Taking a step back as a practitioner and letting her team do what they do best has done wonders all around. She has moved into a leadership role she is now able to focus on the parts of the business that have been neglected due to lack of manpower and time. Advice from Melanie The hard conversations and decisions become easier over time, and mistakes are actually learning opportunities and should be treated as such! From Doubt To Confidence
Episode 26 From Doubt to Confidence You asked, I'm delivering. When I polled my audience recently about which topics this podcast should cover in the months to come, many of you said you wanted to work on mindset and confidence. This is a personal and important topic to me, and one that I work on almost daily. The value of understanding your own mindset and knowing how to use it to your advantage can make all the difference in growing your business. I decided to break this episode down into three parts, self-doubt, confidence, and moving forward with a confident mindset. By breaking down these elements into smaller chunks, we can see the big picture without feeling intimidated. This means the process of moving from self-doubt to confidence is much easier to accomplish. Part One: Defining Self-Doubt 1) I ask you how you define self-doubt, and how it shows up for you in daily life. Then, I share several examples from REAL women in my community who were bold enough to share their very personal negative self-talk stories (a.k.a. their inner critics). I am so grateful for their willingness to share their truths because I want you to see that if you ever feel this way, you are not alone! I also give you an activity that you can do to get clear on what your thoughts are right now. Later we look at how we can start to reprogram these thoughts. The biggest thing to note: All thoughts are a choice, including thoughts that result in a feeling of doubt, and thoughts that result in feeling confident. Part Two: Defining Confidence 2) Who will you be at your most confident self and how does that person feel? I share a visualization exercise that will help you to understand what confidence is for you. Clarity on this vision of yourself is the first step in knowing how to get there. Part Three: Moving from Self-Doubt to Confidence 3) I share a few strategies that you can implement right away (many on a daily basis) so you can address and reprogram negative, doubtful thoughts and begin taking positive actions that will result in more self-confidence. You will start building momentum, moving towards the confident vision of yourself we outline in part two. Protecting Your Big Business Ideas
Ep # 25 Protecting your Big Business Ideas with Cynthia Mason In the episode, I chat with my good friend Cynthia Mason whose specialty is helping small businesses protect their big ideas. Cynthia has worked with some major brands you would definitely know, but she is super passionate about helping female entrepreneurs. Cynthia breaks down why it's crucial to trademark our ideas, when and how to get started. She also shares her thoughts on whether or not we should DIY this (as do I and I bet you already know which side of the fence I land on). Did you know that not only your name can be trademarked? Cynthia covers all the different parts of your business that you should be protecting ASAP. She talks about common misconceptions about the trademark process, and what the real truths are. We also talk about timelines, how long it takes to fully register your mark in Canada and things you need to know before getting started. Basically, if you've ever had a burning question about the trademark process, she answers it! I also share my own journey with trademarking several names associated with my businesses and why I decided to make the leap. What you'll likely discover in this episode is that protecting our ideas is as much a mindset game as anything else. This is another way we could and should be "thinking big" when it comes to our business. How To Take A Stress Free Vacation
Episode 24: How to Have a Stress-Free Vacation In this episode I give you permission to step away from your business this summer and trust that it will still be standing, nay thriving when you get back. I truly believe in the importance of rest and relaxation, and how it’s all part of a joyful human experience. Studies have shown that people that take quality breaks are more productive. I believe this is true not only on a micro level (within our work day) but also on a macro level (throughout our year). When we take time away from our business, we come back refreshed and more productive. In fact, I bet you get your best business ideas when you're not working in your business. I sure do! My best ideas hit me when I am out for a nature walk, a family adventure, or even swimming laps, seriously! I also share my top 5 tips for having a stress-free vacation, a few systems you can implement so that you can truly shut off (if that is what you want, and I hope it is) and enjoy your time away. The benefits of taking some time away are many, but you’ll come back refreshed and excited (and often with some new ideas to boot)! I also share some tips that will help with your re-entry. I encourage you to set aside one "Buffer Day" when you return so that you can get organized before having any client-facing work. And spoiler alert, I get a little emotional at the end of this episode. You'll have to listen to see what get's me all teared up. When you love what you are wearing, it affects how people view you as well. To be our best selves, we need to look and feel our absolute best, but where do we start? Being able to dress as the woman you want to be is like having a daily high five. Trish talks about learning to dress intuitively and develop our own sense of personal style. She shares what a "Batch Wardrobe" is and how we can use one. I also share some insights I gleaned for prepping for my own personal brand photo shoot, something Trish helps tons of women with.
