Joyful Clients (Chapter 3 from my Book!)
In this week’s episode, I’m giving you a sneak peek of my book, Building a Joyful Business. I’ll be reading Chapter Three: Your Joyful Customer. In this chapter, I dive deep into the mistakes a lot of women make when they’re starting out on their business journey. We discuss how to spot red flags and discover your dream clients, who are ready to invest in you! Determining your dream client is a key part of your business strategy. So many women, when first starting out, are so excited to take on any work available that they ignore the red flags that pop up. I’ve certainly experienced that! I’ll provide you with a list of red flags that clients who are NOT your dream clients will display when you’re first meeting with them. So, we know what we don’t want – but what do we want? I’ll guide you through how to determine your dream client with the dream client checklist. The more specific you can get about what your dream client would look like, the better! It’s happened: you took on a client that wasn’t a great fit. What next? Chapter Three gives you the simple 4 steps to firing a client. First, communicate the problem openly and honestly. Offer the client a period of 2-4 weeks where they can correct their behaviour to continue working on the relationship. If the behaviour goes uncorrected, you’ll have to fire the client, with grace and caring. Finally, cash out – if, and only if, you have to offer a refund, do it ASAP. I’m so excited for you to be able to read the whole book, which will be arriving soon! In the meantime, I hope this preview gives you some tools to work with and gets you fired up for even more great advice from Building a Joyful Business. I am unbelievably thrilled to be sharing this special preview with you. Click here (https://www.liannekim.com/blog/122) to be one of the first people to hear from Building a Joyful Business!

Becoming the CEO with Mindy Applebaum
This week, I sit down with Mindy Applebaum, Founder and CEO of Luxury Move Management to discuss how to really become the CEO of your business – and act like it!Mindy runs an organization that takes over all of the logistics of moving, from packing and unpacking, cleaning services, to selling furniture. We met on March 13, 2020 – the day the world shut down. I remember watching Mindy bombarded with calls and messages as lockdown affected her business. At that point in her journey, Mindy was the jack-of-all-trades for her business. She was micromanaging every project, flexing her prices to be accessible to clients who didn’t want to invest in her, and trying to be everything to everyone. A year later, Mindy is confident in her business, her pricing, and saying no to clients who aren’t a good fit. Now, Mindy’s let go of her need to control every aspect of every project, and her business and personal life have reaped the benefits! She spends more time with her kids and even turns off notifications at 8:30pm. Her tips? Find what brings you peace and define your own version of success. Think about what you want your life to look like, and work towards that. I’m so proud of Mindy as one of my coaching clients and seeing how far she’s come since we began a year ago brings me an incredible sense of joy. Now, it’s your turn! What do you need to do in your business to be the CEO?Links Mentioned in This Episode: Connect with Mindy on Instagram @luxurymovemanagement (https://www.instagram.com/luxurymovemanagement/) or at her website https://www.luxurymovemanagement.com/

Why I Wrote My Book
This week, I look back over the highs and lows of the incredible experience of writing my book, Building a Joyful Business. I talk about why I decided to write the book, the challenges I faced in getting there, and how I went about the journey of getting it published. Throughout my career, the most heartbreaking thing I’ve seen is women who have lost the joy in their business. They get caught up in the day-to-day grind, and completely forget why they even started it in the first place. It’s been a joy to me to be able to help the women I’ve helped get back into their groove, but I realize that coaching is cost-prohibitive to a lot of new business owners. Building a Joyful Business is a way for me to reach and help more women find their love for their business again. Of course, writing a book isn’t easy! Even getting started was a challenge. I felt so inadequate compared to the business gurus I look up to. The Covid-19 pandemic was in full swing, and I had almost convinced myself to wait – until I realized, I was in exactly the same cycle that I teach other women how to get out of. I was spending all of my time caring for other people – my clients, my kids, my family – that I had moved away from joy and into survival mode. It was at that moment I realized that my expertise, my ability to bring back joy, was exactly what we need right now. On the way to getting my book published, there were a mountain of decisions to make. Should I publish it in the traditional way, or self-publish? Who do I trust to get the details of this right? I really had to commit hours at a time to writing, which is hard when it means turning down coaching clients! In the end, though, the commitment I made to writing the book was so worth it when I got to the end product. Inclusive Marketing with Sonia Thompson
I am so excited to introduce you to my guest on this week’s episode! Sonia Thompson is an incredible customer experience strategist and consultant. She’s been in the position to examine the way that businesses are leaving some customers behind in their marketing and customer experience services and has been a strong voice for diversity in marketing for years. I asked Sonia to give us her essential takeaways for inclusive marketing: 1. Get IntentionalTo Sonia, inclusivity in business simply means to get intentional about who you will and will not serve. Being inclusive doesn’t mean you have to serve everyone! Think about the people who have the problem your business solves – then, think about how they might be different from one another. How can you make sure your business provides for all versions of your customers?2. Diversify your Circle of influence No matter what your business is, it is vital to surround yourself with people who are different than you. Different perspectives expand the way you view the world, and once you live it, inclusive thinking comes naturally. 3. Think about Representation in your Imagery Every bit of content you put out is evaluated by the people who might seek to work with you. They need to see themselves reflected in your business as it is, it gives them permission to continue forward in that space. We really do all just want to belong! As always, give yourself permission to mess up. No one’s ever going to get it perfectly! Embrace the imperfectness and enjoy the growing and learning. Social Media: What's Working Now!
In this week’s episode, I talk to Robyn Vanpee about how to boost your social media strategies. We run down the Top 5 social media strategies to utilize in 2021: 1. Social ListeningYour followers are your greatest source of inspiration. You know that – let them know it! Listening to your audience is the greatest way to boost interaction on your channel. You’ll create an amazing community and get all the data you need about what your followers want most from you at the same time. 2. Minimalism After all of the chaos that 2020 brought, we’re all overwhelmed. Let your page be a source of calm for your community, and don’t try to be everything to everyone. Do one thing and do it well. 3. User-generated contentWith permission, of course! Utilizing your community’s content is a great way to engage with your audience and show them how much their participation means to you. And it’s free!4. Educational ContentThis is an up-and-coming trend that we’re seeing more and more of. You’re an expert in your field, so you should feel confident in presenting what you know to your followers. 5. LivestreamingA massive shift we’ve seen recently is the need for genuine, authentic content in social media. Skip the “highlight reel” and engage face-to-face with your audience. Excessively filtered photos are a thing of the past! Your followers want to get to know the real you. How to Create more Focus
Whenever I find myself running around in circles and not making any progress, it’s usually because I haven’t focused in on a specific goal, or I’m giving my energy towards the wrong things. And I bet the same thing has happened to you! This week, I talk about how focus can either jump start our progress or be the main obstacle in achieving it. In order to make sure that we’re using our focus to goal-set and goal-get, I walk you through the steps I take with the A-Players. I’m pulling back the curtain to show you how I lead this group of remarkable women to streamline and clarify their 5-year, 1-year, and 90-day goals. From there, we’re able to make concrete plans for their businesses that will ensure they meet the goals they’ve created for themselves. Use the information from this episode to evaluate your own business goals and priorities. Are you focusing on the right things, or are you holding on to old goals that don’t make sense for your business anymore? How are you holding yourself accountable to those goals, and does that strategy need to be re-assessed?If you’re realizing “Hey, wait, that might be me!”, don’t sweat! We’ve all been there. That’s why I’m sharing this with you now – so that you can keep yourself on your growth path and kill it like I know only you can!Links:Connect with me @liannekimcoach

Networking with Intention with Emily Edwards
Emily Edwards came across Mamas & Co. after having been rejected by those in her local community for vocalizing her anti-racist beliefs. As it turns out, networking with people not only local to her, but all over Canada and even North America, was the best thing she could have done!In this week’s episode, Emily and I discuss how finding a network of supportive and like-minded people is critical to our success. When Emily spoke out about her beliefs in her local community, clients and collaborators dropped out from working with her. Once she found her people, she took gigantic strides in making the revolutionary changes she wants to see in the field of reproductive healthcare. We talk about how the concept of networking has changed radically – not only post-pandemic, but the differences between icky-feeling “sales-ey” conversations and real, genuine connections with people we can trust and support. This conversation is a beautiful way to think about how we need to intentionally select the people we spend our energy on and time with. Emily’s wholehearted commitment to what she believes in, and her insightful advice, makes this one of my favourite episodes I’ve ever recorded!Just like Emily said: the power of having a community who believes in change really is incredible.Links: Connect with Emily Edwards on Instagram: @thegoodbirthco Join the Mamas & Co Community: https://www.mamasandco.com/waitlist Alana Kayfetz: http://momsto.com/Nadine Woods: https://www.mayanageneviere.ca/Annemie Paul: https://www.annamiepaul.ca/ The Business of Thinking Big Podcast Ep. 60: Playing the Long Game with Cindy WagmanRupi Kaur: Home Body

How I quit my 9-to-5
Quitting my full-time sales job was never a perfect, or linear, process. It took me about six months from making the decision to quit to my last day in the office. This week, we’ll talk about how I made that commitment, created my exit plan, and stuck to it!I felt so much fear around quitting my job. As someone who values security, that fear could be paralyzing at times. By adjusting my mindset and deciding on what I personally needed to feel secure in a safety blanket, I was able to overcome that fear and really enjoy the last few months in my position. We’ll also discuss the more practical aspects to preparing to quit your job. Building a business while you still have a full-time career is challenging, but it was so helpful to me to have work lined up for my business before my last day of work. Keep in mind: there’s never going to be a perfect time to take the leap. I hope that you will use my experiences to learn from and jump in – you won’t regret it!Links: The Business of Thinking Big Podcast:Episode 57: How to Develop your Money MindsetEpisode 73: Next Level Mindset with Rebecca LaneEpisode 9: How to Choose the Right Content Platform

How to Close More Sales
This week, I follow up last week’s episode on generating quality leads with the next step – how to close more sales. For so many of us, women specifically, sales can be intimidating. It can be hard to balance asking for what we’re worth without feeling aggressive or overly sales-ey.I find, when people ask me why they aren’t making the sales they want, they have one of two problems – either they are not creating enough sales opportunities, or they are not closing sales in sales conversations. The last episode covered how to manage creating more sales opportunities in lead generation. Today, I discuss tackling the second problem, in closing the sale.I talk about the structure of how your sales calls should go, some questions you can ask potential clients to get them discussing their problems, and how to make the offer. I want to encourage you to be confident in your abilities and present your offers in the way that will encourage your dream clients to be ready to sign up!Links:The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode 113: How to Generate Quality Leads www.liannekim.com/blog/113

How to Generate Quality Leads
This week, I discuss the four pivotal steps to generate quality leads. This will be the first in a two-part series where I teach you how to create a flow for you dream clients to access your services. We’ll sharpen your marketing process, direct it at the people who will love your product, and turn those leads into sales!Review Your Business GoalsThis first step may seem unconventional, but to begin attracting your dream clients, you really need to get your business goals clear. Have a solid idea of what you are selling and who you want to sell it to. Who is the ideal customer for your offer? What Keeps Them Up at Night? Also known as “pain points”, you should be focusing on the problem gap between where your ideal customer is and where they would like to be. If your service isn’t providing the solution to that gap, you may need to rethink your strategy!Speak to the Problem So often, I see women entrepreneurs actively avoid discussing the problem they want to offer a solution to. Your marketing should be directly speaking to the problem gap you’ve identified – your followers should resonate with the message you put out. Invite Them to Take the Next Step with YouMake the offer! A great way to encourage followers to take the next step with you is to give them a taste of what working with you will be like. Once they have experienced your style, they’ll be asking for more. Links:The Business of Thinking Big Podcast Episode 52: Get Intentional for the Year Ahead https://www.liannekim.com/blog/52

My Biggest Business Failures
This week, I look at the six biggest failures I’ve made in business. I talk about bad investments I’ve made, ways I put off some things I needed, and jumped too early at others I wasn’t ready for. Looking back now, it’s easy for me to see where I went wrong. When I was first starting out, however, I got caught up in second-guessing myself, like so many of us do. Bad InvestmentsIn getting started, there were a couple of investments I made that didn’t pan out the way I had hoped they would. I talk about the research I could have done to save myself some time and money when I was still learning, and how I likely should have bowed out of those investments much earlier than I did.Not Hiring a Coach As women, we tend to believe that we need to do everything ourselves. I found this very true as I tried to learn everything on my own, not believing that I was “ready” to bring on a coach. Once I did hire a coach, I was able to clarify my business strategy and marketing, and I grew bigger and faster. Sometimes, we have to leap before we’re completely comfortable!Waiting to Charge My WorthI wanted to get a lot of experience, quickly, and my compromise in doing so was keeping my rates low. Much of this came out of the fear of hearing a “no” in a sales call. I noticed, once I had built up my confidence and began charging my worth, that my dream clients arrived so excited to work with me! Think Big Mastermind ProgramWhile I certainly waited too long for some things I needed, I jumped too early at others I wasn’t ready for. This was the case with the Think Big Mastermind Program, a program some of you might remember from a while back. I really needed to build my audience and solidify my one-on-one coaching as a VIP offer before I could jump into something like this Mastermind Program. Not Trusting My GutLearning to trust myself was a pretty big hurdle to get over. I made some mistakes in the beginnings of my business by ignoring red flags with clients and accepting people walking over my conditions. Now, I remind myself that I create boundaries within my work for a reason, and my dream clients will be happy to work within them. Not Future-Proofing My BusinessFor a long while, my main focus was on my one-on-one coaching, but it wasn’t really sustainable for the growth I was planning for. Creating online courses and one-to-many or one-to-few was how I learned to create more stable income. In listening to this episode, my hope is that you will see how trusting yourself and seeing your own value will show others to do the same. Mostly, I want to reassure you that we all make mistakes! Mistakes create opportunities for us to learn and course-correct along the way. In the end, if we trust ourselves and take the leap, we’ll get where we need to be.Links: Episode 33: Is It Time to Hire A Coach? https://www.liannekim.com/blog/33Episode 98: Joy, Success & Leadership with Amy Porterfield https://www.liannekim.com/blog/98Episode 19: Social Media Marketing with Rick Mulready https://www.liannekim.com/blog/19Episode 27: Shifting from Practitioner to Leader https://www.liannekim.com/blog/27Episode 38: 5 Reasons to Build an Online Course https://www.liannekim.com/blog/38Mamas & Co A-Players Program: https://www.mamasandco.com/coaching

How to Pivot Online with Supriya Mehra
This week, I interview Supriya Mehra, an event producer and business strategist who has been running her business since 2009. We discuss how she was able to pivot her business from an old-school event focus to a more modern and online structure. Supriya quit her lucrative, corporate career in 2016 to fully commit to her entrepreneurship dreams. Since then, her work as an event producer had kept her busy – until, of course, the Covid-19 pandemic struck, making events, as we used to know them, impossible. Supriya and I discuss how she was able to continue her reduced events business while also beginning a new online community and launching her first webinar. The key idea? Delegating! This episode dives deep into our ability to let some things go and embracing the perfectly imperfect nature of any first attempt. There’s never a perfect moment to start, and the more we see the beauty in “starting small”, the more we empower ourselves to get started at all. Your Only New Year's Goal
Goodbye 2020, and hello 2021!In my last episode, we talked about celebrating our 2020 wins, even if they didn’t look the way we had hoped they would back in January. This time, I want us all to look to the future, and think about how to build upon our 2020 experience. If you’re like me, 2020 came with its fair share of struggles and difficulties, but mostly, it came with opportunities for growth. In this episode, I discuss the one overarching goal you should keep in mind for the New Year. The nitty-gritty of your business goals are always helpful to think about, but will only get us so far. I talk about how the focus on the one big goal will help you to think bigger and step into the next version of yourself.Of course, as women, we tend to dim our own light to make others, and ourselves, more comfortable. I talk about how important it is for us to fully realize our greatness, so we can be our bold, assertive, and authentic selves. I know, I know… 2020 has been a year and a half! Some of you might not even want to think back on this past year, but please, I urge you to join me in this exercise. Together, in this episode, you and I will celebrate your wins. I’ll ask you to grab a pen and notebook for this one because I want you to see how much you really have achieved. As I ask the questions, we’re going to reflect on all the things that went great. Just Keep Going
Episode #108: Just Keep GoingNo one ever said that owning and growing a business is easy. Yes, there are moments of bliss but there are also moments of gut-wrenching anguish. In this episode I share 3 stories of what could have been dire circumstances for my business. The first story you may already know about from past episodes but the other 2 stories I have never spoken about publicly for no other reason than the fact that they were painful. But I realized that in sharing these events and making myself vulnerable, I would be able to help other women going through a similar circumstance. This episode is emotional, and it took a lot for me to get to this point. But I believe that now more than ever, we need to show compassion, kindness, and be an outstanding example for others who need a ‘guide’ to move through a difficult time in their journey. To know that you are not alone in your plight is huge and I want this episode to remind you that you will get through this. You are brilliant. You are resourceful. You are strong. And you are exactly where you need to be right now.Links mentioned in this podcast:James Wedmore https://www.jameswedmoretraining.com/Colin Boyd https://colinboyd.co/

Handling Complaints
Episode #107: Handling ComplaintsNo one is exempt from complaints - it is simply part of business. It’s not my favourite part of customer service, but through these moments, we can illuminate a misalignment between the end result and their expectations. Which might not apply to all cases, but it could help us better serve all of our customers, current and future.I talk about the difference between complaints from our customers, and negative comments from ‘haters’, the steps to resolution, and the tools you can use to keep your dream clients or gently release a customer relationship.Links mentioned in this podcast:Gwyneth Paltrow https://goop.com/caMamas & Co. https://www.mamasandco.com/Your online community of mom entrepreneurs

Episode #102: How I Built my MembershipHave you ever wanted to learn how I built my membership, Mamas & Co.? It's a wildly successful revenue stream for us now, but truth be told, that wasn't always the case. In this episode I share the highs and lows of the past 6 years of building and growing my awesome community for mamapreneurs. I have also shared how our pricing and offerings have evolved over time, as a result of our member feedback. I was recently watching the Toronto Raptors play in the NBA "bubble" and I was inspired by how much JOY they were experiencing. They were having so much fun working at their craft despite current circumstances, and it made me realise that we should all be loving what we do a heck of a lot more.I started this episode with a key question you need to ask yourself: "Is my business bringing me JOY?'I then share 4 key reasons why most women have businesses that feel stressful and frustrating so we can identify if these are happening in our business. Leadership & Vulnerability
Episode #94: Leadership & Vulnerability with Amy WineAs leaders of our businesses, our families, and our communities, it can feel very challenging to be vulnerable. But vulnerability is a very powerful state to cultivate and it can have profound effects on both our personal and business growth. In this episode I sit down with my sweet Texan friend Amy Wine, who is a marriage counselor and the host of the podcast, Marriage on Fire. Amy helps couples and families to communicate effectively so they can enjoy more fulfilling relationships and a more joyful life as a result. Amy boldly puts her own personal life out there every week on her podcast, so she knows what it's like to open yourself and your personal life up for all to see and potentially criticize. But Amy hasn't always been the courageous leader she is today, and she and I both open up about how we've faced hard times when it comes to letting people see our imperfections. We talk about the importance of being vulnerable with our clients and supporters, our teams, and within our families. We both share examples of ways in which we've done that. We also share some messy missteps too. After all, what's an episode on vulnerability without the messy stuff, right? I also open up about my own marriage and some of the struggles I have had being vulnerable in my most intimate relationship. Some of our favourite nuggets from this episode: "How can I let them see me fail, when I'm the person who helps them achieve?""80% of the time... I'm going to give them the very best tools and strategies. The other 20% of the time, they're going to see the real.""If you have an opinion, you are going to risk pissing someone off."Links mentioned in this podcast:Amy Wine Counseling https://amywinecounseling.com/Marriage on Fire Podcast https://amywine.com/welcome-to-the-marriage-on-fire-podcast/Michael Hyatt https://michaelhyatt.com/Lianne’s “I cried in my car" video on IG https://www.instagram.com/tv/CALZtWQBuM9/Amy Porterfield’s Online Marketing Made Easy PodcastEpisode #106: Are you Repelling or Attracting Your Potential Customers https://www.amyporterfield.com/2016/04/106-repelling-attracting-potential-customers/The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode #62: The Fear of Selling Yourself with Tarzan Kay https://www.liannekim.com/blog/62Marriage Sparks https://marriagesparks.net/Follow Amy on IG @marriagesparks https://www.instagram.com/marriagesparks/Visit Amy on Facebook @marriagesparks https://www.facebook.com/marriagesparksYour Best Fall Ever – Wednesday, September 2nd Register now at mamasandco.com/fall https://www.mamasandco.com/fall

Meet Kirsten Jordan, a social media strategist who helps women let go of the need to look "perfect" and gain the ability to show up genuinely online, so they can make true connections with their audience. Kirsten shares why this is such a huge problem with female entrepreneurs, in particular, and how this is having detrimental effects on their business success. The 6 Pillars of Leadership
Episode #91: My 6 Pillars of LeadershipLeadership is an essential skill that we need to develop in order to scale our businesses, but not a lot of people are teaching this complex skillset well. That said, in this episode I share my own insights that I have gained over years of leading various teams to greatness. This recording is from a training I did for one of my high-level coaching groups. The women in this group were primarily 6-figure business owners who were all hiring and leading team members, but even if you're not there quite yet, what I cover in this episode is still extremely important. We start with clarifying the vision and values of your business. What is the impact you're creating and how are you creating it? I also speak on the importance of giving thought to the culture you want to create in your business. I then move into my 6 pillars of leadership which include:Hiring SmartComprehensive TrainingSystemized CommunicationDirect FeedbackInspiring GrowthCourse CorrectingI hope you find these pillars useful and applicable as you grow your own business. How to Master YouTube
Episode #90: How to Master YouTubeHave you thought about using YouTube to grow your visibility, credibility, and gain new leads? If so, you likely know that there's a lot to know to master this platform. That's why I brought my friend, Quayjo, on the podcast to share his top tips on how to master YouTube. Quayjo has grown his own YouTube channel from zero to over 11,000 subscribers over the last few years and he shares how to grab your audience's attention and keep it. He explains how YouTube actually works, and what people want to watch on the platform, so you can begin to create content people actually want to consume instead of what you think they want to see. Quayjo even shares his proven framework for YouTube videos that get the most clicks and views, and keeps viewers watching longer (which you want!). There's so much to know, but he breaks it down and makes it easy to implement. If you're going to show up on YouTube, don't waste your time. Reflecting on Growth with Michelle Dittmer
Episode 88: Reflecting on Growth with Michelle DittmerDo you take the time to look back and really reflect on your own growth? Unless you're working with a coach, you probably don't. That's why I really wanted you to hear this conversation between myself and my amazing client Michelle Dittmer of Canadian Gap Year Association. Not too long ago I sat down with Michelle for a final coaching call with her. Michelle and I had been working together for 6 months and she had come so incredibly far in that time. This was recorded as a real-life coaching call and was not intended as a podcast, however, when I listened back to it, I felt what Michelle reflects upon is so universal and would be so valuable for other business owners to hear. With Michelle's permission, I share this inside look at what a coaching session with me looks like. Listen as she reflects back on the different areas of growth, she has experienced over the past 6 months and as she starts to envision her own future growth. Building an Inclusive Business
Episode #84: Building and Inclusive Business with Christina SackeyfioThis episode is the audio recording of a session that took place within the Mamas & Co. community. Our members were deeply affected by the events that led to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement around the world. It was clear, that as an international organization, and one that prided itself in being inclusive, we had to step-up and give our members, and ourselves, the opportunity to learn what we didn’t know and grow by providing the platform for us to engage in uncomfortable conversations and ask the difficult questions. We asked Christina Sackeyfio of Boldly Inclusive to help us navigate the sensitive and highly important issues of diversity, inclusion and belonging. It was essential that we, as business owners and leaders create spaces where everyone, clients and employees, belong and can thrive. Christina shared her 5 pillars of building an inclusive business as well as answered hard-hitting questions from our members. This was an eye-opening talk, and it gave resources to help our members become better educated in systemic racism, the steps to take in becoming better allies, and how they can become better leaders in their own communities. My Favourite Business Books Part 2
Episode 83: My Favourite Business Books Part 2It's been a year since I put out my first list of my top 10 favourite business books. But since then, I've done a lot more learning and growing. My new favourite way to learn is by listening to audiobooks and I have discovered some great ones since that first episode came out 12 months ago. I believe that reading is food for the soul, and I do hope that you’re able to explore one of these books during your downtime...This time around I group these 10 books into a few different "themes" such as business culture, inspiration, marketing, finance… there is truly something for everyone here. Leadership & Inclusivity
Episode 81: Leadership and InclusivityAs someone who grew up in a multi-race household, and now has a multi-race family of my own, I have always felt I was "doing my part." I assumed that my allyship was implied. It was not. I have always thought of myself as someone who advocates for diversity and inclusion, but the truth is I have not been an active ally and I now understand that being aware of a problem is not the same thing as advocating for change.I am working on becoming a better advocate, both personally and professionally. I know that this is a lifelong journey. I don’t have all the answers, not even close. And that is an uncomfortable place for me.But I am willing to sit with the discomfort. I’m willing to examine my own biases, which I hope in turn will help others find room to do the same.I believe that in this situation, much like motherhood and entrepreneurship, it is not about getting it perfect. It's about making a start. And I’m starting with education – MY education, my children’s education, and listening to my community. In this episode, I talk about what I’m doing as a human. I talk about what I’m doing as a mother. And I talk about what I’m doing as a business owner and leader. This is not a ‘how to’ or a ‘you should do’ episode, I am simply suggesting that big changes come from first steps.I encourage you to listen to this episode whether you think it’s not for you or if you feel that you are far beyond where I currently am in my journey. You might find a valuable nugget, or you might find your first step.Links mentioned in the episode:The Business of Thinking Big PodcastEpisode #48: Meaningful SWAG for Your Business https://www.liannekim.com/blog/48White Fragility by Robin Diangelo https://www.amazon.ca/White-Fragility-People-About-Racism/dp/0807047414/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=E9EA4YV4JZH30GW1MN1JHow to Be an Inclusive Leader by Jennifer Brown https://www.amazon.ca/How-Inclusive-Leader-Cooperation-Differences/dp/B07VFKLSV2/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0DS07EKFR0MXQSCZC334Christina Sackeyfio, Boldly Inclusive http://www.boldlyinclusive.co/

Episode 80: Letting Ourselves Be Big with Natalie RuskinIf you've ever felt like you're not stepping into your full power and potential, this conversation will truly resonate with you. In this episode, I speak with my incredible client Natalie Ruskin, who is a life coach helping moms live their mission more fully and with integrity, without burning out. Natalie speaks about how she felt called to serve moms to play big in their lives, and yet struggled with fully stepping into that role. She shares how she once struggled with an eating disorder and body image issues, and how it was difficult for her to speak from those scars, for fear that her audience would see those flaws and judge her for them. And yet once she did own that journey, how powerful that has been for her as a leader. We discuss the concept of "growth" and how important it is to allow ourselves to experience different kinds of growth, especially during this global crisis of COVID-19. She also shares a few simple yet effective mindfulness tools to help us create, as she says, "calm at will". We also discuss the role of faith in our personal journeys. I got chills when Natalie talked about how she gave herself "permission to be unapologetically me" and put herself out there. This is a very unique and spiritual discussion, but a very important one. And we even have a few laughs along the way. I hope you find value in it. What Success looks like Right Now
Episode #74: What Success Looks Like Right NowThis week I sit down with my super fun friend Ashley Shaw who is an online coach and mentor to social sellers. It was fun to have a conversation around some of the big picture stuff, despite what is happening in the world around us right now (COVID-19 and social distancing). Ashley shares what success for her really looks like and how her life and business is shifting now that she is a mama-to-be. She talks about how back in the day her feelings of success came from external sources ie. other people's praise of her. She talks about how having a team has changed her life dramatically. And she also shares how many hours she's spending on her business and what she spends that on. And then we turn the tables and Ashley asks me a few questions about what success looks like for me right now, how I have pivoted in my business because of COVID-19 and how we are looking for ways to add value to our people.
