Mungi Ngomane | Social Justice Advocate and Author | Embracing Grief

This week my guest is Mungi Ngomane, Social Justice Advocate and Author of the book Everyday Ubuntu, inspired by the lessons from the South African philosophy and way of life. Mungi is the grand-daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, anti-apartheid and Human Rights Activist who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his efforts in resolving and ending apartheid in South Africa. In this exchange Mungi and I spoke about grief, because she lost her grandfather earlier this year. Grief is a topic we often leave out when it’s time to speak about mental health or wellness, and it is something we all experience - whether it’s caused by the loss of a loved one, or the grief we feel when something ends or is taken away in our lives. I hope you find this exchange helpful and comforting. Monica Ruffo | CEO and Founder, Well Told Health | Advocating For Natural Treatments

This week, host Eva Hartling speaks with Monica Ruffo, founder of Well Told Health. A serial entrepreneur with passion for health and wellness, Monica enjoyed a prolific career in the advertising agency world when she received a diagnosis of aggressive breast cancer. Throughout her 18 months of cancer treatment, she put her passion for health and wellness to work on herself, researching every aspect of her lifestyle and treatment options and advocating strongly for both traditional and natural treatments. As a result, she fared extremely well both during and after cancer treatment, and uncovered what she felt was a huge gap in the market. The more digging she did, the more she realized that most “natural health” products are not natural at all. As she continued her quest to better understand natural health products, she successfully completed a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University and decided to found Well Told Health.Whether wellness means sports, rest, mental health or all of the above to you, we’re thrilled to partner with Athleta, a purpose-driven brand whose mission is to ignite the limitless potential of women and girls and is designed for women by women. Frances F. Denny | Artist and Photographer | Living outside the status quo

This week, host Eva Hartling continues the witch series with a very special guest. This episode features Artist and Photographer Frances F Denny. Frances' work investigates female identities. Her recently published book is titled “Major Arcana: Portraits of Witches in America,” which documents a diverse group of people who identify as witches. This book is an exploration of contemporary witchery told through striking photographs and short, inspiring texts written by the subjects themselves. Her work from this book is also on display at “The Salem Witch Trials: Reckoning and Reclaiming,” an exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum,Frances herself is a descendant of one of the Salem trial judges, and of Mary Bliss Parsons, accused of witchcraft in 1674 and acquitted by a court in Boston. In this conversation, the duo explore what it means to be a witch and to practice witchcraft - in yesteryears, as well as today, in 2021. The two also explore what makes the witch such a unique female archetype. This season of The Brand is Female is brought to you by TD Bank - Women Entrepreneurs. Cardsy B. | Tarot Reader | Modern day witch-hunts

With October right around the corner, we have a very special episode of the podcast. Recently, host Eva Hartling has become fascinated by witches. You may be familiar with the common historical depictions of witches, riding on broomsticks, or being burned at the stake, but we're going to explore a more modern definition; that is, a woman who stepped into her own power. These days, witch-hunting looks a bit different, but it's just as harmful as it always has been because in our society there is still nothing scarier than a woman realizing how powerful she is or she can be. With one month until Halloween, and the autumn solstice just behind us, this is the perfect time of year to amplify and celebrate the work done by some of our favorite witches. In today's episode, you'll meet Cardsy B also known as Rebecca “Bex” Szymczak. Bex is our very own Tarot expert at The Brand is Female— a New York City-based Tarot Reader who picked up her first deck of tarot cards at age eleven. Listen to this episode to hear what it means to be an actual witch and all sorts of witchy things. Don't forget to check out her podcast Hex and the City if you haven't already, new episodes every Sunday! This season of The Brand is Female is brought to you by TD Bank - Women Entrepreneurs.
