150: Inflammatory Skin Conditions with Dr Phil Tong, Consultant Dermatologist
As a young child, Phil watched his father travel along the patient journey of experiencing eczema. Being in the clinical space watching Dermatologists diagnose and prescribe treatment sparked a passion for the cause and effect of inflammatory skin conditions, which later led him to pursue a career in Dermatology.
Phil was awarded a Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists after completing his dermatology specialist training in NSW as the inaugural Dean’s Fellow in Dermatology, a joint initiative with The University of Sydney.
A true lover of learning, Phil underwent world class-research and dermatology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Liverpool and Westmead Hospitals. He also completed his PhD in advanced biomedical imaging and skin immunology at Centenary Institute during this time.
Prior to obtaining his specialist qualifications, he also received training in dermatology departments in Perth, Melbourne as well as in London at the world-renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital.

146: Esthetician to E-Commerce Queen with Renee Rouleau, Founder of Renee Rouleau Skin Care
A life-long skin enthusiast, Renée Rouleau has dedicated 30+ years to the art of skin perfection.
From the very beginning as an esthetician herself starting out in a one-room hairdressing salon, Renée recognized that every person's skin is unique; however, she also noticed that the beauty industry mostly relied on a one-size-fits-all approach to skincare and that Product lines were traditionally catered to very generic categories of skin - dry, normal and oily.
With the spark of an idea and a whole lot of passion and purpose, Renée began formulating her own exclusive products based on not one but nine skin types to ensure her clients achieved the results they desired.
Using her practical knowledge from being hands-on, her namesake product collection Renée Rouleau Skin Care easily navigates the skin’s needs by using ingredients and formulas that are innovative and effective to build the empire we know and love today.

145: Self-care through at home luxury with Charmaine Blackburne from Cocoon Luxury Australia
For as long as she can remember, Charmaine has had a deep appreciation and love for luxury aesthetics, cosmetics, holistic health and wellness.

From here the clear vision of Cocoon Luxury was born, one of which has taken Charmaine 2 years to bring to life, officially launching in December 2019, right before the world was about to hit the global pandemic.
Building a product range including anti-ageing polishes & balms, fragrant diffusers and even a Gua Sha board, Charmaine talks about Cocoon Luxury’s mission and what motivated her to fill the natural, yet luxury, gap in the market and of course shares with us why body care and self-care go hand in hand.

134: Cosmeceutical 2.0 with Dermalist Skincare's CEO and Founder, Stefanie Milla,
From a young age where her chemistry and science-loving father would bring home the latest research journals for her to read, Stefanie has held an interest in advanced technology, which comes as no surprise as to how her career in the aesthetic industry has planned out today.
Stef is a skin expert in the highest form of the title, whos passion for client outcomes and results has driven her through to further study as a Dermal Educator. For the past 20 years, Stef has directed some of Australia’s most well known and highly regarded dermal clinics where she has lead teams of dermal clinicians, nurses and doctors to perform non-invasive skin and laser treatments.
That career recap would generally be enough to satisfy anyone, however, through noticing a disconnect between a therapist recommendation and client compliance in understanding why they had to use such a vast amount of products at home to gain the desired result, Stef saw a need to simplify but not compromise the way we achieve healthy skin and developed Dermalist.
Stef and Tamara do not hold back today as we talk about the need for science and beauty to be combined, the truth behind multifunctional skincare, inclusive marketing campaigns and we get to find out what makes Dermalist so revolutionary in the way it works.
Stef and the team have kindly offered all listeners of today's episode to receive a complimentary 3 step Dermalist trial kit just by phoning or texting 0411 807 665, emailing [email protected] or private message them on Instagram @Dermalist.

132: Culture, inclusion and diversity in Cosmetics with Tasneem Shahidullah Founder of Tasneem Cosmetics
For many years Tasneem personally struggled with feeling the love when it came to makeup especially when finding the perfect lipstick shade, for some reason if you're 2 shades darker than "almond" you're going to face nightmare nudes and off-tone reds. Having had enough of being left out of the commercial beauty industry, Tasneem decided to create her very own custom lipsticks, with shades carefully crafted to suit not only her skin tone but also a variety of complexions!
Being a third-generation South Asian woman living in a Western society Tasneem wanted to foster a brand that acknowledges and celebrates her personal cultural background along with a multitude of backgrounds. For too long brands and society have happily utilised people or colour for their appearance/aesthetic but not given them a voice/identity or even considered them in the development process of creating their beauty products.
Tasneem’s personal cultural upbringing has defined the person she is today, from appearance, mindset, interaction, and character. So, she is making it a KEY focus for TASNEEM Cosmetics to unify Beauty, Culture, AND Colours!
Talking about the education we should be searching for to better show up for all cultures, the work that needs to be done from top down to represent every person that walks through our doors in our marketing campaigns and very generously sharing her own personal stories with the lack of inclusion she felt growing up.
You can find more about Tasneem and the range online or on Instagram

129: Industry Leaders in Collaborative COVID Conversation with Vanessa Main, Brigitte Benge, Faye Murray and Lisa Conway
To say this year has been a wild one is an understatement. We’ve had bushfires, a global pandemic, business closures months on end and to round it out Australia has plummeted into a recession.
Though we could easily sit back and ask ourselves, why should we bother, it's important that we take this year and see it for what it is, an opportunity. An opportunity to pause, to be present, to reignite our passion and to press play on the things that truly do fill our cup.
This year has reconfirmed for Tamara the importance of community and collaboration in our industry and when putting the call out for some inspiring people in our industry to come together these incredible four women put their hands up.
Vanessa Main of Loft INC, Brigitte Benge of Cream Solutions, Faye Murray of Your Coach and Lisa Conway of The Zing Project joined Tamara in a live panel session to provide hope, clarity, strength and unity for the professional beauty industry.

119: Pivoting and Pausing during a Global Pandemic with Leelah Linke, Co-Founder of St Skin
Through the global pandemic we have and currently are still facing, i heard many times by experienced figures that ‘beauty industry is resilient and recession-proof’, however, the cynic in me was always a little reserved with this notion, this is until I first handedly saw the strength that the team at St Skin exhibited during the pandemic - I now know wholeheartedly for this resilience and recession-proof claim to be true.
Mid pandemic while the world was upside down, Australians were ridiculously panic buying toilet paper, our industry was forced into closure and business owners were frantically googling what government funding they were eligible for, I noticed across the St Skin social media account something completely different. Not only were they trying to battle the aforementioned problems we all were, but too, they had been not so kindly kicked out of their stunning space on Flinders Lane, in mid-city Melbourne.
What comes next is resilience by definition, which you can hear in Leelah's voice as she shares what it’s like to proactively close the business down and stop treating prior to government mandating you must do so, how one picks up and finds new space in the midst of an uncertain climate and too how you stay sane, remain calm and not lose your shit in the middle of bunnings warehouse - or maybe not so for that last part as you’ll hear in Leelah's story today.
I hope that by sharing Leela and the st skin story with you all today, it will help show you that while we might not all be in the same boat or the exact same storm, we are certainly all going through this pandemic together and with a little support, a lot of patience and communication, we will get through this.

118: Building a business empire with Madeline Radin of MK Brows & Skin Boutique
To current date, Madeline has been working in the beauty industry for 13 years with her main focus being skin therapies. Over the years she has spent 7 years furthering her skills and 6 years performing Cosmetic Tattooing procedures. With raving reviews and an incredible industry fan base, it is clear that Madeline is using her talent where needed, by displaying her finer attention to detail and developing conscious and considered business strategy around the demands of her business.
You’ll hear in today's conversation despite her incredible internationally successful business, student training offering and newly founded product brand, that Madeline is as humble as they come. Grounded by the premise of working hard before making announcements and challenges she's found along the way through self doubt, confidence and what it takes to run a home and a business, this is a conversation that whether you provide brows as a service in your space or not, everyone can take away a piece of Madeleines down to earth approachability.

The youngest of six children born to Iraqis who immigrated to the United States, Dr. Murad’s life has been a testament to hard work and an almost childlike confidence that perseverance will pay off.

112: Celebrity Brow Artist, Jazz Pampling
Jazz is a Sydney-based eyebrow artist and educator who is re-defining the ways in which women shape their brows with an extensive A-list client list which includes Paula Abdul, Naomi Watts, Jessica Mauboy, Samantha Harris, and Network Ten’s Natarsha Belling.
A regular at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival for the past 9 years working as a brow and make-up artist, Jazz is regularly asked to speak at Beauty Expo’s around Australia and New Zealand on her theory of Brow Shaping, which I have no doubt you would recognise her face, (or rather her lush curly hair!) behind camera as their roving reporter.
Jazz and I are pretty much cut from the same cloth in terms of diving deep in our chat and we found ourselves going down the rabbit hole of psychology, mindset and human behaviour super early on in this conversation where Jazz speaks openly about comparison and imposter syndrome, as well as the reality of being a business owner.
For more on Jazz, you can find her online here or on the gram here.

Belinda has owned The Skin Clinic for the last five years and Daniela stepped into the role of Manager for the past four years and they’ve been the perfect partnership for their team ever since.
I find the relationship between business owners and managers such an interesting one that many of you ask me about, so I thought this would be the perfect time to have an open and honest conversation about the metrics of that partnership.
Today we talk through questions like; Who makes the decisions, what kind of tasks does each person have on their to-do list, how to navigate a disagreement, who is responsible for the overall performance of the business and that age old question, what happens when the superstar manager leaves?

108: TEGANMAC.SKIN
Starting in the industry in 2016 and launching her own business TEGANMAC.SKIN in September 2019 (just three years in), it’s delightfully surprising to see Tegan Mac accomplish such influence and status in the professional beauty industry.
With a passion for skincare and a history of skin concerns herself, Tegan has developed a down-to-earth and relatable platform for her clients to go for skin advice in it’s funniest, most raw form on social media.
Being the first ever person to win the AST skin masters social media award, Tegan is someone I frequently get screen shots about from community members asking ‘where do I get these for my salon’ or ‘how can I do this for my clients’, showing her true entrepreneurial ways are making waves and leaving impressions on the industry as she challenges the status quo and creates a landscape of her own.
Dressed in her signature baby pink branded sweater today, Tegan and I talk about having a go when you’re new to the industry, finding your passion and running with it and why it’s important to teach people about their skin from a secondary educational level.
