245: Reduce new client attrition and retain more new clients with Vanessa McDonald from Salon Marketing Agency

245: Reduce new client attrition and retain more new clients with Vanessa McDonald from Salon Marketing Agency

Today’s guest is Vanessa McDonald from Salon Marketing Creative Agency Vanessa McDonald is the founder and director of Salon Marketing Creative Agency, aka SMC, and has helped salons "stand out like a flamingo amongst a flock of pigeons" through database-focused marketing since 2016. Vanessa entered the professional beauty industry over 20 years ago and has worked in various sales or marketing roles for notable brands such as Dermalogica, Shortcuts Salon & Spa Software and Professional Beauty Solutions. Industry leaders refer to Vanessa as the "queen of retention marketing", and with good reason. Retention marketing has been her sole focus since 2008. Vanessa's mantra is "all clients are new clients", whether they have visited the business once and never returned or have been coming regularly for beauty services but never had a skin-related treatment. "Salons, spas and clinics don't need to do backflips and cartwheels to attract new clients because the majority have less than 27% of new clients return for a second visit. If a salon owner puts as much effort and dollars into their new client rebook and retention strategies as they do to acquire a new client, the overall revenue would be life-changing." Vanessa helps salon, spa, and clinic owners make more money using their most valuable marketing asset- their client database using direct-response marketing strategies to generate profit. To share her ideas and strategies on how to reduce new client attrition and retain more new clients, from Salon Marketing Creative Agency, today we welcome Vanessa McDonald. 211: Cocktailing Cosmeceutical Ingredients with Kristen Robinson, Senior Director of New Product Development Murad Skincare

211: Cocktailing Cosmeceutical Ingredients with Kristen Robinson, Senior Director of New Product Development Murad Skincare

20 years ago, a young acne suffering teenager fuelled and fed Kristen's passion for skincare.  Frustrated and dissatisfied with traditional westernised medicine (think rounds of antibiotics, harsh prescriptions swiftly scribbled during dermatologist rapid-fire visits, and potent smelling topicals) led to a personal quest to solve her own and others’ acne skin issues. After graduating with a BS in Biochemistry and working in a skin toxicology lab, Kristen left her east coast roots to specifically contribute to the success of Murad. A dermatologist/pharmacist brand steeped in a non-traditional Connected Beauty approach to skincare and healthful beauty that she had gratefully discovered years prior to become a lifelong fan. In her roles as Assistant manager, Manager and now Senior Director of New Product Development, Kristen has been able to work by Dr. Murad’s side directing technology and formulation direction with her team to create and cultivate, from concept to production, award-winning efficacious skincare steeped in Dr. Murad’s Cellular Water principle. 210: Microcurrent for Age Management with David Suzuki, President of Bio Therapeutic

210: Microcurrent for Age Management with David Suzuki, President of Bio Therapeutic

Chances are you’re already familiar with the BT brands. You’ve probably used one of their tools in your treatment room like the BT analyse to test your clients hydration levels before and after a treatment, the BT micro to provide ultrasonic delivery of skincare or the bio-hydroderm trinity as your exfoliation step in an advanced facial and thats because they’re sold in over 35 countries worldwide. Known as pioneers in microcurrent technology, Bio-Therapeutic’s professional skin care technology offerings include comprehensive microcurrent facial toning systems, wet/dry microdermabrasion, microexfoliation, and a handheld line that includes microsonic cleansing and ultrasonic exfoliation, with models both for the professional and your clients. Today David and I explore the science of technology and skin, specifically the recharging of the mitochondria for better adenosine triphosphate levels, we talk through facial muscle reeducation and sculpting, explore the difference between collagen and elastin and even compare technology to more invasive services like injectables. If you’ve ever been in a treatment using a device and thought ‘but why and how does this actually work for my client?’ and if you want to brush up on your skin science, then you’ll absolutely love todays conversation. 209: Harnessing The Natural Brow with Elle Wilson of True Brow

209: Harnessing The Natural Brow with Elle Wilson of True Brow

Fads and trends continually come at us as therapists and i’ll admit, it’s hard not to get sidetracked by them but not elle, elle sticks with her intention to harness the natural brow at all times through her business Truebrow. Today we explore whether its’ innate for us as therapists to be creative or whether a skill can be taught to someone who has a great attitude and outlook which i’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on. Elle dives into the exploration that women need a frame to shape their face but too that it shouldn't be overcompensating the face, rather just enhancing it. We also touch on the pain point that many of us have in seeing the under qualified treat and the schools in which they train at tick and flick when it comes to passing, all for the nature of getting a certificate at the end.
