6 Productivity Tools I Love Using in My Business
Would you like to be more productive? I’d say I'm pretty productive myself, and while I suspect my 50% is probably everyone else’s 80%, it definitely wasn’t always that way. There was a time a few years ago in my business when I felt like I was doing all the things, putting all the content out, having the right conversations and yet, nothing was getting me traction. It sucked. I was not motivated. I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall and I didn’t have the energy to keep going. I finally decided to look under the hood and ask myself what was actually going on. I listed all the things that gave me joy and the ones that didn’t. I looked at the things I needed to keep doing and the things I could let go of. I just couldn’t keep doing the same things and expecting a different result. Today, I’m taking you through how I changed my trajectory, and the secrets that have worked wonders for me in maintaining productivity in my business.I hope these tools give you that little boost of energy and help you glide – not grind – straight into Christmas!LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/Mentioned in this episode:Join Thriving Women Todayhttps://tea-with-the-queen.captivate.fm/thriving-women

What it means to have financial freedom as an entrepreneur
Financial Freedom is something we all want as entrepreneurs but what does it actually mean?It could mean taking regular time off, having substantial savings, or investing in other ventures. For me, it’s about having peace of mind and knowing I can take time away from the business without financial stress. Whatever your goals may be, the essence of financial freedom lies in having choice and stability which empowers you to explore new ideas and services, elevating your business beyond mere survival.I’ve worked with countless women who’ve taken this journey and made their goals a reality. When to invest in further education as an entrepreneur
I’m not a natural learner. I’ve had to put a lot of effort into building the muscle of learning over the years, but despite the struggle, I know it’s worth it. You see, most industries require you to do more learning, whether that's reading or writing research papers or attending conferences in your field. But as entrepreneurs, it’s often a little different. We’re only going to be as good as what we know. You know that old adage: “You only know what you know”. This means that we can be a bit left behind in our field and fail to innovate if we don't keep up with what's happening in our target market. So, do you need an extra qualification to do this? Today we’re exploring when to consider investing in more structured learning, and whether you even need to in the first place. I’m also sharing my top tips on how to best stay ahead of the curve in your market.Having a few fancy letters next to your name can be impressive - but does it truly matter to you? Whether your answer is yes or no, it’s time to get stuck in and figure out how to keep on developing in the way that suits you and your business best.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/Mentioned in this episode:Join Thriving Women Todayhttps://tea-with-the-queen.captivate.fm/thriving-women

Don’t let anxiety run your life as an entrepreneur
Anxiety can pop up when you least expect it.As an entrepreneur, this can impact your life and business in surprising ways. Even if you don’t suffer from anxiety, generally speaking, business owners worry a lot! We worry about the future, our cash flow, our revenue, whether we have enough clients... the worry can be relentless. For those who live with anxiety on top of that, it’s a lot to deal with. But there are ways you can manage so that anxiety doesn’t run your life. Through coaching my clients and speaking with other business owners, I’ve observed common areas where anxiety tends to creep in: Social AnxietyI’ve noticed a significant uptick in social anxiety, especially since COVID-19. Working from home has its perks, but it also makes venturing out feel daunting. To combat this, it’s all about taking small steps. Financial AnxietyWe worry about cash flow, revenue, and profitability. Seeing businesses around us close can be heartbreaking and stress-inducing. I’ve learned to disengage from doom-scrolling and negative news cycles. Instead, I focus on strategies that help maintain a positive mindset. Generalised AnxietyGeneralised anxiety can be crippling, especially when compounded with the pressures of running a business. I had a client who woke up every day anxious about her business. So, she threw that business out, started again with a blank sheet of paper, only doing the things that she really wanted to do. Anxiety is a real and rising issue, particularly among small business owners. If you feel like you need some support to help you manage anxiety, there are some amazing professionals out there. Don’t hesitate to reach out for recommendations. What are five or six strategies that help you when you’re not feeling great? Write them down, laminate it and keep it close. This simple step can be surprisingly effective.LINKS:Day with the QueenWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/Mentioned in this episode:Join Thriving Women Todayhttps://tea-with-the-queen.captivate.fm/thriving-women

Why I feel like a Lone-Wolf as a Small Business Owner
Running a business is lonely. If you come from the corporate world, you might be used to a fully staffed office, camaraderie, and the support of a large team. Then you start your own business and you’re suddenly on your own with a mountain of responsibilities to balance. Even worse your old friends don’t understand what you’re going through so it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and isolated. It’s a common feeling for entrepreneurial women but I think deep down a lot of us are lone-wolfs at heart, I know I am. For me, it’s because I had to grow up rapidly and relied on myself from a very young age. Whatever causes it, this fierce independence doesn’t have to be a bad thing. No scratch that. Not only is being a lone wolf okay, it might even be your superpower! How? Listen in to find out! Get Gritty: Delaying Gratification to Achieve Bigger Goals
I never would have called myself gritty. But after looking up the definition of ‘grit’ recently, I now think I can say I have it in spades!Sometimes it’s only in hindsight that we connect the dots and discover something about ourselves we didn’t know was there.I experienced this when I read the Oxford Dictionary’s definition of grit: ‘courage and resolve; strength of character’. As I look back on the significant experiences of my youth, I now appreciate them as my journey to building grit and resilience. It also gives me insight into why I do the work I do, and what led me to being so passionate about it. So what does being a gritty human look like as we work towards achieving all those goals we have for our business? Today we’re exploring what it means to be gritty in business; that perseverance to chase our goals and remain focused despite the inevitable challenges. One of the crucial factors in maintaining grit is the ability to delay gratification, and we’ll dive into the importance of taking small, compounding steps that have a bigger impact on our long-term success. I encourage you to reflect on recent challenges and reframe them as opportunities for growth. And ask yourself: what's one specific challenge or setback you've faced recently that, if viewed through the lens of grit, could be seen as an opportunity for growth rather than just an obstacle? I feel more unsafe than ever
Do you feel safe to walk around your neighbourhood in the dark?I don’t. And I have a feeling it’s not just me.It’s ridonkulous that in this day and age, a woman doesn’t feel safe to go for a walk on her own! It’s a very real problem - I wish I had an answer, but I don’t. So the least I can do is share my personal experience to shed some light on the issue. At the start of the year, I set a goal to up my steps to 20,000 steps a day. That’s a lot of steps! To make that happen, it meant waking up at 5 am. Do you know how dark it is at 5 am?! It’s dark. And I don’t feel safe. One afternoon, my friend Mary was in town for a short visit and we decided to take a stroll along the Yarra River. It was around five in the afternoon, and everything was lovely until we witnessed two gangs of teens going really hard at each other. I was paralysed with fear. I wanted to help but fortunately, Mary pulled me away. It was clear that these kids were high on drugs, and any attempt to intervene would have ended badly, especially considering I’m only five foot two!So, I had to think hard about how I was going to feel safe while on my 5 am walks. If you’re feeling unsettled like I am, maybe these ideas will help you too.I went out and bought a bright yellow rain jacket. You can’t miss me!I walk with my dog—a 15-year-old Maltese who, let’s be honest, wouldn’t scare anyone off, but his presence is comforting. I bought myself a big torch - a really heavy one. Even though I don’t think I’d have the guts to bop someone on the head with it, it gives me a little comfort.I also bought a personal alarm that I carry with me. After about four weeks of solo early morning walks, my husband, Mark asked to come with me. Seeing how dark it was at 5 am, he asked me if I felt safe and of course, I said “No!” So now he comes with me every day and that makes me feel very safe. He’s an amazing husband. But not everyone has a partner to go with them. This is a very real problem, and I wish I had a clear solution. I’m increasingly curious about what other women are doing to feel safe. If you’re experiencing similar feelings of unease, please know you’re not alone. At the end of the day, I’m not going to let fear get in the way of me getting out and doing what I need to do. Don’t let fear get in your way either.LINKS:Day with the QueenWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/Mentioned in this episode:Join Thriving Women Todayhttps://tea-with-the-queen.captivate.fm/thriving-women

What it means to be a thriving woman
When you picture a thriving woman, do you automatically think about how much money she makes? To me, a thriving woman pays attention to every single aspect of her life, not just her business. She is surrounded by a community of like-minded women and is open to learning and growing. She cheers others on and understands that life works in seasons. The Birth of Thriving WomenI started Thriving Women because I wanted a group of women - like me - to connect, coach, and build a community with. When I began my business, I found it lonely, especially now that many of us are working from home. Interaction with others, especially like-minded women, is essential. More heads are better than one—for creative idea-making, problem-solving, cheerleading, and even giving a good butt-kicking when needed. There is an extraordinary power in community. How to build a great programStack it with more value: If you’re not convinced of your offer or service, stack it with more value. Do your market research: Before launching any program, you need to understand your audience and know that they’re going to buy what you have to offer. Evolve and adapt: Thriving Women has undergone several iterations over the years. Year one was a basic version and we built it out from there. The Magic of CommunityWe’ve seen the women in our community achieve some remarkable results - business growth skyrocketing, publishing books, going from a one woman business to managing a team of 12 people. But the one thing everyone keeps coming back for is the community. So, whether you’re part of the Thriving Women network or another community out there, I encourage you to keep investing into the people around you. Keep being a cheer leader of others to help them flourish. That’s what a thriving woman does!LINKS:Day with the QueenWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Year 3 vs Year 7 in Business: Moving through the Messy Middle
Have you ever felt like you're juggling a hundred balls at once, teetering on the edge of burnout, and questioning if it's all worth it? Welcome to the messy middle of your business. This is an intensely stressful but immensely educational phase that typically occurs around the third year of business or when annual revenue hits about $300,000. Today I’m sharing the tips and tricks that helped me navigate through my own messy middle, so you can steer your business toward sustainable success. My biggest lesson from this journey was the need to pause and reflect. Balancing Ambition and Wellbeing: When is ‘Enough’ Enough?
When is ‘enough’ enough?Recently, my client showed up to a coaching session. She was wrecked. She had spent the good part of the last two years delivering, showing up and serving her clients really well. I was so proud of and thrilled for her - and then she dropped the clanger on me: “Em, when is ‘enough’ enough?”I fully understood what she meant. We all need to make money. But how do we choose between the relentless hustle of work and our own wellbeing? Is it one or the other, or can we find a healthy balance? Today, I’m sharing the questions I asked my client in order to uncover the root of her exhaustion, and the strategies we discussed to help her re-prioritise her own sense of wellbeing. We’ll explore redefining what success looks like to you, how to implement self-care to avoid burnout and regularly adding something to your diary that you can look forward to. Remember, success isn't solely about achieving those financial goals; it's also about maintaining mental, emotional and physical health to keep you on the right track. So, what does success look like in your own life? And when is ‘enough’ enough for you? How to Maximise Your Business Visibility
I’ve now been in business for 7 years. Crazy! What’s even crazier is how far I’ve come given I started out with no cash, no clients and zero visibility. Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes to share what I did to maximise my visibility in my space. Some wins were easy and some tricky, but all of them have proved to be incredibly effective. How I price my service offerings
Did you know that 92 per cent of women in business make less than $100K a year in revenue? A large part of this is simply due to not knowing how to price their service offers properly. I want to see more women making more money—not just for the sake of it, but because it leads to more choice and freedom in your business and life. First things first, I want us to stop charging an hourly rate. Charging by the hour can cap your earnings and make it difficult to scale your business. Let’s say you want to make $100K a year, work 40 weeks out of the year, and work for 30 hours each week. Your initial calculation might lead you to believe you need to charge $84 an hour. But remember, you won't be billing all 30 hours. Between marketing, social media, bookkeeping, and other tasks, you'll likely only be billing 20 hours each week. So let's revise that to an hourly rate of $125.Even though we don't want to charge by the hour, understanding this helps us see the value we need to attach to our time and services.Introducing Tiered Pricing ModelsNow, let’s talk about a tiered pricing model. This involves offering multiple levels of your service, each at a different price point. Money psychology teaches us that if a person is presented with three options, most people will pick the middle option. Your tiers could look something like this:- Basic: $100 per month- Standard: $200 per month- Premium: $400 per monthYou can offer different sets of features or benefits for each tier. For example, your basic tier could offer essential services, the standard tier offers more comprehensive services, and the premium tier provides the complete package for those willing to pay extra. This way, you attract a broader range of clients and maximise your revenue without significantly increasing your workload.Consider implementing a tiered pricing strategy in your business to give yourself more stability and focus on trying to achieve the MRR (monthly recurring revenue) number that will get you to the 100K per year goal. It can take some time to figure out the perfect tiers for your service, but the effort is well worth it. What it actually means to scale your business
Scaling a business is a buzzword we often hear in the entrepreneurial world. Yet, many of us don't fully understand what it means, how it differs from growing a business, or how to implement it effectively.I recently worked with one of my clients who wanted to scale her membership service, and I realised just how much there is to consider. So today I want to share my insight on what it actually means to scale and whether it's the right move for you.Let's start by breaking down the differences between scaling and growing. Even though these words are often used interchangeably, they don’t mean the same thing.1. Resource Allocation: Growing involves a proportional increase in resources such as capital, workforce, or operational capacity. In scaling, the goal is to achieve more with less. This means a focus is on increasing revenue without significantly increasing resources.2. Efficiency: Growth tends to be less efficient due to its linear expansion of resources and costs. Scaling emphasises efficiency and sustainability, aiming to increase revenue while minimising costs.3. Strategy and Implementation: Growth strategies may include hiring more employees, opening new locations, or increasing production. Scaling requires strategic planning and innovation to handle increased demand without proportional cost increases. To make things clearer, let’s look at some examples! A restaurant that opens new locations to serve more customers experiences growth. It doubles its revenue but also doubles its costs for rent, staff, and supplies. Meanwhile, a software company that automates customer support with AI can serve more customers without hiring additional staff. This is scaling because they’ve significantly increased revenue with minimal cost. There are several benefits to scaling your business, like an increased market demand, greater revenue potential, and a competitive advantage. However, scaling is not just about the upside; there are risks involved. If your business isn’t ready you can overextend and expose it to unnecessary risks.Remember, scaling isn’t for anyone. Like any decision in business, it’s important to be well-informed before diving in. Whether you decide to scale or grow, I hope the information I’ve shared will help you make the best decision for your business.LINKS:Day with the QueenWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Why female entrepreneurs are scared to invest in their businesses
Are you scared to invest in your business?Seven years ago, I bootstrapped my business with my own savings, not taking out loans or relying on investors. It was just me, making things work under pretty tight conditions. When I started the business, I had one rule: don't spend money until you've made money. There were, however, two exceptions: one was a terrible website I made on my own and then quickly discarded (because it was atrocious), and the other was investing $26,000 per year into a business school. It felt like an enormous sum at the time, but I had faith that the work I would generate from being in that business school, would more than pay for the investment I was making. That decision turned out to be one of the best I ever made—I felt secure as I transitioned from my corporate role into my own business. Now, let me ask you: would you have taken that risk? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Women are quick to invest in our children, beauty routines, and family holidays, but when it comes to our businesses, we often hesitate. In this episode, I break down why I think this is the case and some strategies to help you feel more comfortable investing in your business.Fear of investing in your business is understandable, but the potential rewards far outweigh the risks. Build a supportive network, seek mentorship, and continually educate yourself. Prioritise your wellbeing and finances smartly. With these strategies, you'll be well on your way to overcoming the fear that holds you back.I hope my tips have been helpful. Pick one and try it. Give it enough time to work, and if it does, let me knowLINKS:Day with the QueenWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Three Ways to Increase the Profit in your Business
Increasing profitability can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be.Today, I thought I'd share three ways to increase the profit of your business. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, these tips can help you maximise your revenue and improve your bottom line. 1. Dive Deep into Your NumbersThe first step to boosting your profitability is a thorough analysis of your numbers. It might sound really simple, or even silly but I see way too many women burying their heads in the sand because they lack confidence or financial literacy. 2. Increase Your PricesAnother simple often neglected strategy for increasing profit is to raise your prices. Women, in particular, tend to undervalue their services and hesitate to charge what they're worth. If inflation and business costs rise, so too should your prices. Regularly reviewing and adjusting your prices to reflect the market conditions and the value you provide is crucial.3. Create New Offers Introducing new, high-margin offers is another effective way to increase profit. This doesn’t mean pushing out offers with no margin—instead, focus on those with good revenue and strong profit potential.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Make Your Offers Irresistible with Value-Based Pricing
One of the most common questions I get asked as a business coach is, "How do I price my services?" It causes stress and anxiety for many entrepreneurs so today I want to talk about value-based pricing and how value-stacking can make your offerings irresistible.Value-based pricing is a strategy where the price of a product or service is determined by the perceived value to the customer rather than the cost of production or historical prices. Adopting a value-based pricing strategy allows you to communicate the unique advantages and value-adds your product or service offers. This helps you stand out in the market and escape the price wars. How to Implement Value-Based Pricing1. Understand Your Client’s Perceived Value: Dive into the minds of your customers. What problems does your offering solve for them? What benefits do they value the most? 2. Stack the Value: When customers feel they are getting substantial value, they are less likely to question the price. To achieve this, provide additional resources, access to tools, or exclusive content that complements the rest of the package and addresses your client's needs.Remember, the first sale you need to make is to yourself. If you're not thoroughly convinced about the value of your offer, it's time to reassess and add more value!LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

"People just aren't buying right now"
“People just aren’t buying right now”.It’s a phrase I’ve heard many times over the last 6 months at least, and I understand how difficult it can be to make sales right now. With rising interest rates, a housing crisis, ads becoming more expensive and generally sluggish social media engagement, we know the market has changed. But to say that people aren’t buying right now without looking at the bigger picture, I feel needs some further investigation. People are still spending money, and sales are still happening. Here are three things you can do to keep selling through challenging times:1. Get Creative and Stand OutDon't just offer the same old thing everyone else does. Think about what makes you unique and how you can deliver exceptional value.2. Your Energy Check InPeople are drawn to positive energy. Do an honest self-assessment. Are you bringing the enthusiasm you need to connect with potential customers?3. Be ProactiveNo more waiting for leads to fall into your lap. Be intentional about your business development efforts. Here are some key areas to focus on:Build Your List: Having an email list is crucial. It allows you to nurture leads and share your offers directly.Offer a Valuable Freebie: Incentivise people to sign up for your list with a freebie that solves a problem they have.Craft a Sales Process: Do you even have a sales process? Map it out to ensure you're consistently following the right steps to convert leads into customers. While the sales landscape may seem harder right now, remember that people are still spending money. By implementing these key strategies – getting creative with your offerings, radiating positive energy, and taking a proactive approach to sales – your business can thrive.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Four questions I ask when making big decisions
Did you know that the average adult makes 35000 decisions every day? It’s an overwhelming number and it blew my mind when I first heard it. From the moment we wake up to the time we go to sleep, our brain makes decisions that shape our actions and define our paths in life. If we aren’t making good decisions how will that impact us, and if we could improve our decision-making what effect would that have on our lives and our businesses?Today I want to share the four questions I ask myself when making big decisions. They help me look past conflicting desires and responsibilities to see what choice is best for me.Question One: Do I want to do it? This might seem simple, but I think it’s a crucial step as you can often fool yourself into thinking you want something you actually don’t. I find journalling is incredibly helpful for working through this.Question Two: Is it good for me? Decisions can have consequences that aren’t immediately apparent. Take time to think through a course of action and what positive/negative effects it will have.Question Three: Is it good for my family? Even if a decision is great for you, it can affect the people around you negatively. I need to consider how things will affect my three children and my husband. Is it a good choice for us? Is it even feasible for us?Question Four: What does my gut say? Too often in business, I’ve made choices based on logic that go against how my gut feels. These seem like great decisions at the time but sometimes they cause a lot of trouble I could have avoided if I’d listened to my gut.I’ll also share a difficult choice I was faced with at the end of last year and walk you through how each of the questions helped me prioritise my health, energy, and family despite the incredibly tempting opportunity. In the end, decision-making is not just about making choices; it's about understanding yourself, aligning with your values, and nurturing your well-being. So, the next time you're faced with a tough decision, make sure you take the time to understand how you feel, and don’t forget to listen to your gut.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

What to do when you're feeling scattered in business
Are you currently feeling scattered in your business? When you sit down at your desk to start your work day, is the list of tasks insurmountable? You’re feeling so overwhelmed by all the things you need to do, you have a million tasks on your plate and no clear direction on how to tackle them.If you’re currently feeling scattered in your business, here are a few practical tips that I often share with my clients:1. Step Away and Refresh: Sometimes, the best way to gain clarity is to step away from the keyboard! Take a break, go for a walk, or simply have a cup of tea to clear your mind. Even a few minutes away from your desk can give you the mental headspace that you need.2. Prioritise Tasks: Instead of tackling your entire to-do list at once, identify the tasks that will truly move the needle in your business and prioritise them. I like to plan my week on a Sunday afternoon, and then pull from that list just three tasks to focus on per day.3. Eliminate Distractions: Distractions can worsen the scattered feeling. Turn off notifications, leave your phone in another room if you have to and set specific work periods using techniques like the Pomodoro method. 4. Focus on One Thing: Identify the one key task that will propel you forward and dedicate your efforts to it. Stick to it until you see results. If you have too many things to focus on at once (especially if they’re all decent-sized projects), your ability to finish any of them will be diminished.5. Script Feedback: When giving feedback or addressing issues, use a structured approach like the SBI model (Situation, Behaviour, Impact) to keep emotions at bay and ensure clarity in communication.Navigating through moments where you feel scattered in your business is a common challenge. But with the right strategies, you can regain your clarity and focus. Remember, it's often about stripping away the noise, identifying the core tasks that matter, and committing to them with intention and purpose.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Managing your client's energy without taking it on
Sometimes it can be difficult to separate your feelings from those of your clients. They’re going through something hard in their business, their energy is depleted and they are coming to you for guidance. How do you ensure you can hold space for their feelings and work through their issues, without taking on their energy?Today, I want to share with you a personal experience with a client that taught me valuable lessons in managing not just my energy, but also that of my clients.I have three go-to strategies that I hope will help you to maintain your energy levels.1. Preparing for Challenging ConversationsAnticipating the emotional intensity of client discussions and mentally preparing myself helps me approach each interaction with clarity and empathy. Setting boundaries and being in the right mindset before a session is crucial.2. The Role of Physical Activity to Move EnergyTaking a solitary walk or engaging in a calming activity like journaling or meditation allows me to decompress and process the emotions that arise during intense client conversations. Physical movement and quiet reflection work wonders in restoring balance.3. Listening to Your GutRecognising the signals your body sends in response to stress or discomfort is essential. Trusting your instincts and acting on them can prevent emotional overload and help you work through challenging situations. As you come across clients burdened with heavy emotions or challenging situations, remember to prioritise self-care, set clear boundaries, and trust your intuition. By managing your energy effectively, you not only safeguard your well-being but also enhance your capacity to support and empower those you work with.LINKS:Gallup Strengths AssessmentMarco Polo AppWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Focusing on energy management vs time management
There is no shortage of resources for time management optimisation in business. We have software tools up the wazoo to help us operate more efficiently, block out every hour with the help of AI robots, and schedule in our breaks to get ourselves all organised. But even with all these productivity and optimisation tools, we still get to the end of the day ready to fall in a big heap and doom-scroll social media to zone out.Maybe we just haven’t figured out the most effective time management tool for our needs yet. Surely there are others we can try.Well, I think we may be focusing on the wrong thing. So often, we're told to focus on time management, but what if I told you that energy is where the real magic happens?Prior to focusing on my energy levels, my family was probably receiving the “dregs” of my personality. I was always exhausted, had a lot of things on my mind and was never really as present as I should have been. So, if you’re feeling like you’ve got your time management down pat and you’re still a bit of a mess, prioritise your energy instead and see how you feel!LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

3 tips to steal back time in your work day
Do you feel like you never have enough time in your workday to get everything done?Even if you set yourself a task list for the day which looks like it should be achievable, you’re still struggling to get through it. At the end of the day you feel unproductive, overwhelmed and you’re struggling to see where the hours went. It’s an extremely common feeling, and I have three tips to help you steal back your precious time that I know will help you achieve more.1.Batching Your TasksGrouping similar tasks prevents time lost in task-switching and boosts efficiency. Did you know for example that every time you switch tasks, you lose 25 minutes! If you are batching your similar tasks, you lose less time overall. 2.Focus on Three Tasks Per DayI find it extremely important to focus on just three main tasks per day to keep the momentum going. If I have too many items on my to-do list for the day, I actually get way less done and I feel overwhelmed when I don’t cross them all off.3.Stop Scrolling Socials and Checking Emails ConstantlySetting designated times to check social media and limiting email access to a few specific slots a day can prevent unnecessary time drainage. Outsourcing tasks you dislike and prioritising tasks you enjoy are also key practices in reclaiming your time.Stealing back time in your workday requires a conscious effort to optimise how you use the hours available to you. By implementing strategies like task batching, time auditing, and prioritisation, you can take control of your time and increase your productivity. Remember, it's not about finding more time; it's about making the most of the time you have.LINKS:TogglWebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

Why I nap every single day
When was the last time you took a nap in the middle of the day on a weekday? Most people might not be able to remember a time when they did, or perhaps it was only because they were unwell. Well, you might be surprised to learn that I take a nap every single day. Between the hours of 12pm - 2pm, I have a dedicated rest period where I give my body and my mind a rest. Yes, just like a toddler. But I wasn’t always this way. Having three kids, a business to run and a household to keep together, I used to struggle with the idea of setting aside time to rest throughout the day. It felt like there were already too few hours in the day to get all the things done, how could I take more time out to nap?I can almost bet that if I hadn’t been forced to stop, I probably would have never started taking my daily naps, but now that I’m here I can’t imagine ever going back. Does your community deliver results?
How do you know if your community is getting you results?I guess the first question to ask yourself would be, what does “results” actually mean to you.Are you looking for more revenue, connections, advice, sales or maybe you’re just in the community to keep you stay accountable. Results don’t have to be driven by money, but I bet if you sat down and thought about it, you could name what aspects of your community are working for you. And sometimes when we look deeper into the communities we’re in, we realise they’re not serving much of a purpose at all. If that’s you, it’s probably time for a change and you might need to think more deeply about what you need.LINKS:WebsiteFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

I want to show up in my pj bottoms and a top knot which is great for virtual, but in-person that may be frowned upon. In-person is a lot more effort. But maybe in-person is better because we feel more connected to the other humans in the room, and we can achieve more results. You’re probably now more confused and for that, I’m not apologising. Have you outgrown your business community?
Are you currently involved in a business community that you absolutely love being apart of? The impact of community goes beyond mere proximity; it allows you to share struggles, benefit from collective wisdom and unwavering encouragement.Recently, I had the privilege of hosting the first Thriving Women Retreat for 2024 and in the words of one of our attendees, it was "amazeballs." Entrepreneur or Employee - How I made the choice
It was October 2017, and my life was about to take a major turn. I was faced with the prospect of starting a new job that I didn't really want. As I approached my 40th birthday, I also had a child who was about to start school and I couldn't shake the sinking feeling in my stomach. My partner was a school teacher, and I knew that taking this job wouldn’t be entirely flexible. I was struggling to see how we were going to be able to ensure our child would have the stability that we wanted. How were we going to manage the inevitable sick child phone calls from the school, volunteering requests and all that other good stuff.I desperately wanted to be available for the needs of the family, and it was hard to imagine how my new role would accommodate this. I also wanted to be able to wear whatever I wanted every day, like my favourite pair of jeans! It was at that moment that I knew I had to make a change. I needed to create my own reality, one that would bring me joy and financial freedom.LINKS:Emma McQueenFor a copy of Emma's book, 'Go-getter: Raise your mojo, shift your mindset and thrive' – https://www.emmamcqueen.com.au/book/

What culture do you want to have? – Kath Harris
If you’re hiring someone, it’s so important to have a really solid onboarding process. Is it clear they know what to do? Do they have the right tools to get the job done? Are you showing them love and attention? You spend so much time and money finding the right candidate, you don’t want to lose them soon after they join. Kath Harris shares some of her wisdom this episode on how to get your HR on the right track. She explains the DiSC workshops she conducts to help leaders be better. As Founder and Director of UnscriptedHR, she also discusses her own business journey, and she offers advice for others who might be thinking of taking the leap into business ownership.

QUEEN’S COUNSEL – Don’t make just any goals, make smart goals
Do you set goals? Goal-setting is great, but it it’s all for nought if you don’t keep looking back at it and seeing if you’re on track. And don’t just do goal-setting for the sake of it, do it in a smart way, says Emma McQueen. Be crystal clear on your goals, and be flexible and realistic. If your goals are specific, you can then detail exactly what you need to do to achieve those goals.
