Happy Trails - A Tribute To Edward Van Halen

Happy Trails - A Tribute To Edward Van Halen

Last week, the world lost one of the best, most innovative guitar players in history… the guy who created a movement, became part of the pop culture lexicon, and inspired (and continues to) generations of guitar players. The great Eddie Van Halen passed away October 6th at the age of 65 from cancer. So join Chris, and four of his guitar-playing friends who were all greatly inspired and influenced by Eddie – Trixter’s Steve Brown, who had a personal relationship with EVH; Steel Panther’s Satchel, an EVH disciple; Fozzy’s Billy Grey who picked up the guitar after hearing Eddie play; and Fozzy’s Rich Ward, who took from Eddie’s rhythm playing style. Together, they pay tribute – honoring Edward Van Halen’s playing prowess, his solos, his songwriting, his technical contributions to the guitar, and as you’ll hear, his incredibly friendly, warm human spirit – the inviting smile and humility that endured even when he wasn’t at his best. You’ll also hear EVH stories and memories from Charlie Benante, Mike Portnoy, Stryper’s Michael Sweet, AEW’s Frankie Kazarian, and Dave LaGreca from Busted Open Radio. And thanks to Steve Brown and Billy Grey for sharing some original EVH-inspired licks and music especially for this episode. RIP Eddie Van Halen. 30 Years of After The Rain with Gunnar & Matthew Nelson

30 Years of After The Rain with Gunnar & Matthew Nelson

So why did Chris Jericho have long, blonde hair when he first started wrestling? Because of Gunnar and Matthew Nelson! And why did the Nelson twins have long, blonde hair? Because Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora told them they should! Nelson and Chris Jericho have more in common than just blonde hair though – they’re both also celebrating 30-year anniversaries this month – Jericho’s 30th in wrestling, and Nelson’s 30th anniversary of the release of their major label debut, “After The Rain.”  Nelson tells the tale of making that album while flat broke, how they were able to become one of the biggest bands in the world with virtually no support and no money, and why after having such a tremendously successful first album, they almost didn’t get to release a second! They remember headlining tours because no bands wanted to take them on the road, what one guest VJ spot on MTV did for their career, being sidelined at Geffen Records in favor of grunge, what happened the night they met Cindy Crawford, and how COVID forced them to postpone their 30th Anniversary celebration plans. Jericho & Luther Pt2 - 30 Years In The Making

Chris Jericho’s 30 Years In The Making continues tonight (Wednesday 10/7/20) on AEW Dynamite as he faces off against longtime friend, Luther! It’s Jericho and Hagar versus Luther and Serpentico aka Chaos Project! So in honor of the historic match, Dr. Luther returns to TIJ to share some crazy stories about his time in South America, including having things thrown at him in the ring, being nearly shot by militia members, and having to explain barbed wire vs razor wire to avoid dying during a match! Luther also details his tryouts for ECW, WCW, and WWE, and the circumstances that prevented long-term contract offers from each company. Plus, Luther and Jericho explain how that 30-year wrestling road through Mexico, Japan, South America, and the indies all culminated in this huge moment on AEW Dynamite. And then there’s the story about Luther, Jericho, and Christopher Lloyd in Japan. RIP Eddie Van Halen! Thank you for the music! Blood, Sweat & Beers '91 - Craziest Tour In Rock History

Blood, Sweat & Beers '91 - Craziest Tour In Rock History

The “Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour” launched in May of 1991, and was Warrant’s first headlining tour of that size. It was Firehouse’s first big tour, and Trixter had already been on the road for 7 months when they got the call to open the bill. None of the bands had ever really crossed paths before, but by the time the tour wrapped in October, not only had they all become fast friends, they also ended up with one of the highest-grossing tours of the year. And then grunge happened, and almost overnight, the three bands found themselves virtually out of work. Warrant’s Eric Turner, Firehouse’s Bill Leverty, and Trixter’s Steve Brown and PJ Farley reunite to tell tales from that storied rock tour (probably the last of its kind) including the pranks they played on each other, the after-show hangouts, jamming in local bars, Jani Lane’s video game obsession, and the night Judas Priest’s Rob Halford came to see them play in Phoenix, Arizona.
