Project Audion Episode 58: Matinee with Bob and Ray
Fresh from the Sonic Summerstock Playhouse, Project Audion is back and this time with "Matinee with Bob and Ray" is a enjoyable half-hour of fun emulating the cult radio comedy duo of Bob & Ray. For those who are NOT intimately familiar with Biff Burns, or Komodo dragons, or the Slow Talkers of America, I'll tell you that Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding were brought together (legend has it) by accident, in the mid-1940s when a baseball game broadcast was rained out and these two young men went on the air to fill time ad-libbing. That began a five-decade comedy partnership that eventually put them on every radio network, on TV, films, and even Broadway. Their wit and deadpan characters influenced many later funnymen, among them Bob Newhart, David Letterman, Jay Leno and others.
Bob & Ray also influenced Pete Lutz. And he wrote for us this new half-hour of absurdly satiric sketches that brings the droll style of "The Two and Only" back to life in a new "Matinee with Bob & Ray!"
