Ep. 98: Chuck Boucher

Ep. 98: Chuck Boucher

Welcome painter and author, Chuck (Charles R.) Boucher to In-Focus Podcast Number 98. Chuck has been developing his signature style, one that fuses the formality of the classical narrative with the expressive structures of the Abstract Expressionist movement of the early 1900s since 1986. As he explains, "When I was about fourteen years old, I visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for the first time. There I met Egyptian Mummies, followed by John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Monet, Picasso, and Vincent. I sat before the masterpiece painting "The Daughters of E. Barley Boit" and knew then there was a journey to take. That is when I started. Every painting is a continuation of the very first attempt to organize the smeared pigment on my canvases. The ideas and skill evolve, but the desire and drive were born all those years ago, as I listened to the whispers of magnificence." Music courtesy of www.bensound.com

Music courtesy of www.bensound.com  Welcome painter/muralist/art instructor, and production artist on Loving Vincent, Katherine “Kat” Knutsen to In-Focus Podcast Number 73. Since childhood, Kat has always loved working with her hands. Kat Knutsen survived asthma and brain cancer growing up, which initially led to her nursing studies. She quickly learned it wasn’t for her during the clinical portion of her education. While leaving the nursing field, she was serendipitously introduced to the Fine Arts by a friend in sociology class. Kat says, “What drew me to this field was the impact of seeing my soon-to-be painting professor turn magic into a rational process. Something in me lit up!” So Kat Knutsen decided to learn about art and to teach others ways to engage with the art-making process. Her art is now about, “reflecting and interpreting events around me.”

Ep. 60: Ben Jones

Ep. 60: Ben Jones

Welcome grant writer Ben Jones to In-Focus Podcast Number 60. Ben is an arts adjacent. What does that mean? Ben Jones grew up surrounded by the arts. He had two aunts who worked as professional visual artists and teachers. His parents made sure his brother and he always had plenty of art materials. There were many museum visits. His mom continues her grade school “art lady” duties to this day via social media. Yet, Ben remains a self-described arts adjacent – what he has in creative enthusiasm, he lacks, or so he says, in talent. A while back, he established Left Brain, a business whose name was taken from the idea of helping the creatives he worked with. Ben worked in web development and assisted others in the field to navigate the business aspects of their art. Currently, Ben Jones is employed in a grant writing role at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. More specifically, as the Director of Development – Corporations & Foundations, where he continues to help artists pursue resources to assist them in pursuing their art. Listen in on his conversation as The Artist Index’s host, Ron Fortier delves more into Ben’s life, his background, and his ambitions. Music courtesy of www.bensound.com
