As a near-death cycling accident survivor, former corporate executive, endurance athlete, qualified meditation teacher, and creator of the Pause Breathe Reflect Meditation and Gratitude app, Michael brings a unique perspective to any corporate event or podcast.
On July 11th, 2001, Michael experienced a life-altering event that shattered his worldview; he was struck head-on by a speeding SUV while cycling. Today, Michael refers to this as his "Last Bad Day", and has gone from barely surviving to thriving, and even recently cycled across the country, averaging 87 miles per day, on a brand new total knee replacement.
Today he's on a mission to ripple something worth rippling: Help 100,000 people in 2023 start a mindfulness and gratitude practice and help individuals and businesses stress less, perform better, and live more. Michael's approach to mindfulness is straightforward, relatable, and geared to those who don't think they have time or believe they can't do it. Pushing Beyond Limits: Extreme Adventures (with Cyril Derreumaux)
In this episode of The Shift with Elena Agar - I chat with Cyril Derreumaux - ADVENTURER, Speaker & Coach - First to kayak solo, unsupported and 100% human-powered the Mid-Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii.
French born, now American citizen, Cyril Derreumaux considers himself a citizen of the world. Fluent speaker of 6 languages (and counting!) Cyril is attracted to learning and discovering new cultures and places all the time. This natural curiosity of people and places led Cyril to backpack around the world at 25 for one year. With $7,000 and a can-do attitude Cyril embarked on this life changing experience that permanently changed his outlook on life and how he wanted to live it. A move to California following his profession in the wine business led Cyril to begin exploring the world of outrigger canoeing and kayaking and reignited a childhood passion for windsurfing and all things water related. He soon began pushing his limits further and further in ultra endurance water events.
A serendipitous find of the Great Pacific Race which advertised “you don’t need to be a rower to row an ocean” led Cyril to embark on his biggest challenge at the time, rowing in a team of 4 men from California to Hawaii which resulted in in a Guinness Record for the fastest ocean rowing crossing of a team in 39 days and again changing Cyril’s perspective on what was possible.
Always a dreamer, Cyril soon found himself thinking about his next expedition. Inspired by the stories of maverick ocean explorers, Cyril began to plan his biggest expedition to date, crossing the mid pacific on a kayak with solely human power from California to Hawaii. Despite delays and a failed attempt, Cyril accomplished this goal in September 2022 reaching Hawaii to become the first 100% human powered kayaker to accomplish such a feat. As a member of the famed Explorers Club Cyril continues to dream big, thinking of his next big adventure and encouraging others to do the same. Advocating to “live life to the fullest,” Cyril hopes his adventures inspire others to find their own dream and go after it.
Cyril is currently working on a book and a documentary chronicling his kayak crossing.

What is the connection between physical well-being & career success? More than you think!
Physical wellbeing and career success are closely connected. When you take care of your physical health, you are more likely to perform better in your career. Here are some ways that physical wellbeing can impact career success:
Increased Energy and Productivity: When you take care of your physical health by getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly, you are more likely to have increased energy levels and higher productivity. This can lead to better performance at work and more success in your career.
Improved Mental Health: Physical activity and healthy habits can also have a positive impact on your mental health. When you feel good mentally, you are more likely to be motivated, focused, and creative in your work. This can lead to better problem-solving skills and more success in your career.
Reduced Sick Days: When you prioritize your physical wellbeing, you are less likely to get sick, which means you will need to take fewer sick days. This can help you maintain a consistent work schedule, which is important for career success.
Better Time Management: Physical wellbeing habits such as exercise and healthy eating can also help you manage your time better. When you have more energy and are more focused, you can get more done in less time, which can lead to increased productivity and success in your career.

Green 'Open to Work' Circle on LinkedIn.. to put or not to put?
The Green "Open to Work" feature on your profile. To put or not to put? While the "open to work" indicator on LinkedIn can be a useful tool for job seekers, it is important to weigh the potential pros and cons before deciding whether or not to use it. Ultimately, the decision should be based on your individual circumstances and goals.Quick note: remember that this feature came into play during the pandemic - that was 3 years ago - it is simply not effective any longer and might backfire vs help you. This came into play when we are all coming together as a community to see where we can help each other in the global pandemic. That no longer applies - as much as we want to help each other, things have changed. I am frankly surprised LinkedIn still kept that feature that long.As a recruiter - if I am interested in your profile - I will reach out to you regardless if you have "open to work" or not. I will still contact you to explore.🟢 Pros:People know you are looking for work🔴 Cons:Perception of desperation: Some employers or recruiters may perceive the "open to work" indicator as a sign of desperation, which could negatively impact your professional reputation and perceived value as a candidate.Potential for discrimination: Unfortunately, there is always a risk that some employers or recruiters may discriminate against job seekers based on their current employment status or other factors. By indicating that you are "open to work," you may be more vulnerable to such discrimination. You might come off as someone who wants others to do homework for them - it screams "look at my profile because I am looking for work and help me figure out what I should do" aka you are waiting for people to come to you. That rarely works in job search. My two cents - REMOVE IT. It adds no value to your job search or your profile.Instead do the following:✅ Focus on creating an awesome profile✅ Tell your story in a way that is authentic and that sells✅ Connect with people and engage with your network✅ Make it easier for people to help you by knowing what you want, what you bring to the table (your unique value proposition) and stay proactive in your job searchThere is no magic formula in job search - it is about experimenting with strategies and seeing what works and what doesn't work and adjusting accordingly.

Embracing your enoughness (with Dina Scippa)
In this episode of Shift, I chat with Dina Scippa - Founder of Enough Labs - supporting women and girls in coaching on the intersections of leadership and confidence.
About Dina: Dina Scippa - gender equality specialist turned certified life coach who supports women and girls in coaching on the intersections of leadership and confidence, is a seasoned trainer and facilitator, and is invited to speak regularly on radical self-acceptance, women’s empowerment and being enough. She hosts the internationally charted podcast Embracing Enough, which showcases the stories of women and girls and their journey to feeling confident. The podcast explores the stories that influence our collective experience and unpacks what it takes to embrace the belief that we are enough, just as we are.
As a certified life coach, a gender equality advocate, a feminist and an unwavering optimist, Dina feels that true confidence is grounded in radical acceptance of the belief that you are enough. Dina let her dream of working as Gender and Social Inclusion Adviser in the corporate world of international development consulting to pursue her passion to help women and girls find themselves through an authentic recognition and celebration of their own ability. She believes that once women accept the unwavering connection to the fact that they can do what they want to do, feel how they want to feel and be who they want to be in this world – it is then when she’s unstoppable.
With nearly two decades of experience working in some of the most exciting and demanding environments around the world (Afghanistan, South Sudan, Fiji, Peru and 25+ more), Dina is able to bring practical real-world experience to her coaching and speaking. It’s this fusion of first-hand experience, personal anecdotes and humor that enables her to connect so deeply with her audiences and create such inspiring and transformational appearances. Dina is a recognized expert and leader in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment; and regularly mentors and coaches women and girls to step into their power, without compromising who they are or what they are looking to create in the world. Her goal is to help women and girls get in touch with what sets their souls on fire.
Her mission: to give women and girls the space to explore the truth of who they are and embrace their inherent enoughness to counter all the reasons the world tells them they are not.

How to pivot into IT field (with Jubee Vilceus)
In this episode of Shift, I chat with Jubee Vilceus - founder of Yellow Tail Tech - an ed tech company focusing on helping people pivot into the IT industry. In this episode, Jubee shares his journey to entrepreneurship and how his company helps impact career shifts of individuals from different backgrounds who aim to pivot into the IT field - with little to no experience. If you are interested in making a shift into IT or start a company, this episode is for you!
About Jubee: Jubee Vilceus, with a background in MIS started Yellow Tail Tech, an EdTech company solving a big market problem: There was no offering specifically designed and intended to address the growing need of people with no IT background wanting to pivot into the IT industry. The Maryland-based tech expert found a great disbalance in terms of program pricing and curriculum management and most importantly programs suited for this particular sub-niche; People with the commitment and High-Performance Habit necessary but lacking the technical background to jump into a regular IT boot camp or College program. Most boot camp programs available were either too expensive, too short, or too cheap and ineffective. Responding to the demand, he decided to develop a program that would prepare people for new careers in six to nine months. His focus is the Linux Operating System and AWS Cloud computing. They do this by delivering tailored and personalized Virtual Live Training, highly in-demand certifications, Apprenticeship programs, and a community of Top Notch Industry Certified Instructors and students rooting for each other.
