55. Eurovision w/ Dec McHale
This time I'm joined by Dec McHale, Stand Up, Improv Comic, Actor & icon from Auckland and he joins me on the show to talk about the behemoth music event that is Eurovision! I learnt a lot about the history of the event, how geopolitics influences the event depending on what's happening in Europe and then we talk about why Eurovision is meaningful to Dec, as well as how it has influenced him throughout his life. I learnt that Eurovision is sometimes known as "The Gay Olympics" which I found just delightful, most likely doing a follow up podcast with Dec about it!If you'd like to follow Dec, hit him on instagram @decmcomedy or get yourself down to the Wednesday Laughs at the Covert Theatre once a month, check his insta for the most up to date details! As always, make sure you join my FREE patreon page here for exclusive behind the scenes content such as backstage photos, uncut specials, set breakdowns, video podcasts and whatever other fun stuff I chuck up there! If you'd like to check out the tapas tasting menu of Eurovision Tracks that dec sent me, they are as follows:https://youtu.be/9DPAb9-Stmo?si=WP0bV5U7bxLxZjFZhttps://youtu.be/LpRq47hP_f0?si=fAzvUi1SlT-2yBsHhttps://youtu.be/BE2Fj0W4jP4?si=m8KowQgsLGCWRfW3https://youtu.be/3FsVeMz1F5c?si=bfXG3wY8AhOwGIEGhttps://youtu.be/Fv83u7-mNWQ?si=y8ez8DhS0s3cXgKYhttps://youtu.be/DREeDXs9ijc?si=v71G6U2wfTJtZyYWhttps://youtu.be/azw4Kh8Rqpw?si=MddcYNOHJbrTnhT_https://youtu.be/XAJ62IG3gBo?si=0oJ6rqYJ0H_V-oc2https://youtu.be/gAh9NRGNhUU?si=SfRmhLqyXGCGhkS0https://youtu.be/hfjHJneVonE?si=oCKI0fKAiMeVKrYZhttps://youtu.be/pHXDMe6QV-U?si=Kt3b1HAjV6_2SUbehttps://youtu.be/nBtQj1MfNYA?si=9dpen7icTo-KqA0FWatch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 54. The Genius of Phantom Planet w/ Steve King
In this episode I'm joined by my good friend Steve King and what begins as a bit of a moan-fest about how hard it is to advertise comedy shows in this day and age turns into quite an insightful chat when Steve brings up the way the band Phantom Planet (remember The OC's theme?) use their patreon page to engage with their community. This part of the chat blew my mind and immediately changed how I saw the platform of patreon. It's a great listen if you're a fellow struggling creative, and I hope a good listen if you're just a podcast fan!Find Steve online @humblekingdom on Instagram, and once he makes his patreon I'll post it here too.Steve's show Aloha Infinity in the Dunedin & Nelson FringeYou can visit MY patreon here too!My show Panic! Introducing Diners, Drinks, and Drives
Larry Smith and Dan Bublitz Jr are two standup comedians who spend a LOT of time on the road. Fortunately, they love visiting new places, discovering the hidden, and not-so-hidden, gems in a community, and generally hanging out and getting to know people. They’ve also discovered some tips and tricks to thrive while traveling and will pass them along. Let Diners, Drinks, and Drives (yes, purposefully named this to ride on the coattails of a certain celebrity chef) be your travel guide. From large cities to small towns, Larry and Dan will do their best to showcase the best (at least, the best to them) food, travel tips, and places to get some booze that they can!

46. Q&Tay 2024 w/ Henry Hickman
Hey hey it's 2024's first podcast, a vanity project! I copied the idea off The Anime Man, a Youtuber I follow who mentioned in a podcast that he starts each year doing a Q&A video, so I thought I'd do the same. Luckily for me, some listeners submitted some great questions and I recruited local mensch, Henry Hickman to read them out to me.To get more Henry in your life, follow him on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram. Here are the questions I answered:If I gave you three return flights to anywhere in the world, where would you go?If you could put together a concert with any three bands/artists (including those alive, dead, or disbanded), who would you pick? Why don't you have a cohost for Ruddle Me This? How do I get started making a podcast?Biggest Blooper From Your Recent Tour?Biggest achievement of 2023 that you didn't think would be big at the time? What's your girth, big boy?Coombe or friends? Is the format just because comedians want to be really mean to each other because they are actually repressing self hatred? If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life why would it be Dennys? 2023 State of the Ramble
Terribly sorry about missing the usual Christmas / Boxing day upload for State of the Ramble, everything fell to bits all at once; I was losing my voice, had about 3 gigs coming up that I needed said voice for, and the first recording of SOTR2023 clocked in at a whopping 43 minutes AND to top it off I had messed up the audio mastering and it ended up unlistenable. But we rebuild! I was feeling up to recording again on the 30th, so I smashed it out in an afternoon and here we go! In this episode I'm joined by Georgia West Cahill, a good chum of mine from the Christchurch comedy scene to teach me all about the ins and outs and ups and downs of the dog-eat-dog world of online doll collecting. We meander through a bit of 90s nostalgia as well as talking about our cats, and the episode gets surprisingly deep at the end as we talk about what do toys / dolls / etc mean to us, as well as the day we realized that they weren't as fun to play with any more.If you need more Georgia in your life, find her online:Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok or check out her podcast.Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 43. Ramblin' About Copyright, Transparency & Corporate Greed
Hey now what's this!? Ramblin' With Ruddle is back!? In a new solo format!? You betcha, Ramblers!I've been wanting to create a different "flavour" of the podcast for when I do these solo talking (unhinged rambling) episodes and as I talk about in this episode I was inspired by the recent The Escapist exodus to return to my roots a bit and revive the name Ramblin' With Ruddle. In this episode Ruddle rambles about Copyright, Transparency and Corporate greed through the lens of the Escapist's recent exodus and the founding of Second Wind that followed. It's a really exciting and inspirational story, if you're into that sort of thing then definitely have a read, it was covered by the BBC!Do you like the idea of these solo podcasts? I've been surprised by how well the downloads for some of the later solo podcasts have done which helped inspire me to come up with the idea to revive Ramblin' With Ruddle. Let me know via a DM or email if you like or hate these, I need your feedback! This is also the first episode of the podcast 100% recorded on my new microphone, the Samson ESAQ2U! I did a bit of a comparison and the quality increase blew my mind, hope you enjoy the new production value! The previous show Zero Punctuation can be seen Here, and Yahtzee's new show Fully Ramblomatic can be found Here. Kozo is a high octane performer who combines rock n' roll, video games as well as the occult into his unique brand of chaos. In this interview I catch up with Kozo and get to really pick his brain about how to survive as a street performer in NZ, what does a day in his life look like, what does a year in his life look like, what's it like performing around the world in festivals, how to travel on a budget and all that good stuff. If you need more Kozo in your life, follow him on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or check out his website here.Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 41. Coombe As You Are w/ Matt Coombe
In this episode we take a slight divergence from the usual model of having a topic to talk about and I present to you another wee Wednesday bonus episode, an interview with my friend Matt Coombe! It's your pretty standard Two Dudes Talking format podcast, just having a catch up with Matt and talking about what he's been up to. Matt is a comedian and comedy producer up in Auckland with a lot of hustle, so it was cool to pick his brain a bit about that as well as the fact that he's a zoomer so I could ask him things about where he sees the future of comedy going. He caps the show off with a hilarious tale of an encounter with a vicious and violent duck that he had. It's a great listen, I hope you enjoy it!If you need more Coombe in your life, follow him on Instagram at @coombegram, @coombeandfriends and @laugh_mobnz and on Youtube @Coombetube.Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 40. Paranormal Investigating w/ Tracey Royce
In this episode I am joined by my guest Tracey Royce, one of the 2 founding members of the paranormal investigation team The Quantum Foundation. Tracy was insanely supportive of me with my Phantom Files episodes in both helping me get some new stories as well as spreading the word about the episodes online. The success of these episodes wouldn't have been possible without Tracey's help. I brought Tracey on the show to talk about the origins of The Quantum Foundation as well as how their method of paranormal investigation differs from the typical "ghost hunter" type you see around a lot these days. It's a fascinating listen and I really enjoyed having the conversation. If you'd like to know more about The Quantum Foundation, maybe you have a potentially paranormal situation you'd like them to investigate, visit quantumparanormalnz.com for more information.Check them out on Facebook here or join their group Ghosts & The Paranormal NZWatch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 36. Reflecting On My First Ever Stand Up Tour
In this episode I reflect on the experience of my first ever stand up comedy tour. In October 2023 David Correos and I did a 20-show new material tour around most of the South Island of New Zealand. This sort of thing is very uncommon in NZ even amongst professional comedians so I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about this incredible experience while they were still fresh in my mind. I talked about what went well, what could have gone better as well as the whole ton of stuff that I learnt from being on the tour.It was such a good experience and to have it go off as my first ever touring experience makes me feel very lucky. I look forward to doing it next year again! (Spoiler? Maybe!)I will do an episode with David on the show too, but for now I thought I'd like to do one solo to help process what we did.Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 35. Survivor Part 1 w/ Henry Hickman
This week I'm joined by local up-and-coming comedian / computer science genius Henry Hickman! Henry is a passionate and knowledgeable fan of the hit TV reality series Survivor. I've always been vaguely aware of survivor and know some friends who are really into it so I was happy to bring Henry on the show to tell us more about it. Henry and I didn't really know each other that well before this podcast, and this first part is a 30 minute version of that scene from Step Brothers where "Did we just become best friends?" happens.Part of the Survivor Trilogy of podcasts, catch part 1 here, part 2 here and part 3 here.If you want more Henry in your life, check him out on Facebook or catch him at comedy gigs around Christchurch! If you're joining us from attending Henry's recent talk at Nerd Nite, welcome! 34. Rugby w/ Matt Lilley
A wee Wednesday bonus episode for you! Many weeks ago Matt Lilley and I sat down for him to explain to me the ins and outs of the great kiwi past time Rugby. When we recorded it was right around the time that all the office workers of the world were saying "Up The Wahs" to everything, and by the time I've uploaded it, the All Blacks are about to play South Africa in the finals of the RWC. Oh how time flies. Matt was kind enough to remind me about this podcast, so I decided bugger it, we'll slip it in as a Wednesday bonus episode in case any of you out there were looking to brush up on your Rugby knowledge before the finals!Follow Matt Lilley on Facebook or InstagramCheck out tickets to the final days of my tour with David Correos at www.davidcorreos.com!Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 33. The Hottest Band In The World, KISS w/ Craig Westenberg
In this episode, I'm joined by up-and-coming Auckland-based stand-up comedian Craig Westenberg. If you've been following me since the days of my first podcast Ramblin' With Ruddle, you'll recognize Craig as my first ever podcast guest. Craig's been my go-to music friend for years, he is very learned around all sorts of artists and genres and often has insightful knowledge about them. This time I thought it would be fun to bring Craig onto the show and talk about his favourite band, the hottest band in the world - KISS! I've been a bit of a bandwagon fan of Kiss for many years, always liked their music but never really delved into the history of the band or what sort of evolution they've been through as a unit, that's where Craig came in. It's a really interesting listen about one of the most unique bands in entertainment.Follow Craig online on Facebook, Insta, Tiktok or check out his Linktree, you can also catch him LIVE most weeks at The Classic comedy club up in Auckland.Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 32. Why We Love Pro Wrestling w/ Dave Adams
If you know me at all, you know that I love pro wrestling. I missed the boat during the 90s when it was booming but discovered it when I was 17 or 18 years old and have been a fan ever since. Dave Adams is a Christchurch-based stand-up comedian originally from Wellington and he's also a huge fan. In this podcast we seek to give the casual viewer an insight into the baffling popularity of "fake fighting." Dave got into wrestling during the boom in the 90s so between us we have 2 different reference points to look at and hopefully we will be able to take you from skeptic to curious and maybe you'll check out a show. One of my best friends is a local wrestler, "Eccentric" Elliot Samuels, check him out on Facebook here to see him sporting some of the merch I designed him while he puts the stretch on the competition. I asked some of the local comics if they'd be interested in hearing a podcast about how I gave up my day job and became a full time comic. There was a good amount of interest and my very good friend Steven Lyons volunteered to interview me for this episode and so here we are, a deep dive on what steps I took to make sure I was able to leave my day job and start doing this delightful comedy business full time. Hey hey look at that, we're at number 30 and what a fitting coincidence in that we're going to talk about the movie 300. History buff and former comic Talia joins me on the show and we have a chat about what the film got right and what they got wrong about the battle of Thermopylae. I was and still am a massive fan of the movie so this was a great opportunity to ask many questions I've had for years. 24. Contact Juggling w/ Steve Wilbury
Today I am joined by Steve Wilbury. Steve is an international award winning magician, stand up comedian and children's entertainer based up in Nelson. I first met Steve last year when we performed on the Kids Day Out Variety Show together. I think I was the first person to do stand-up to children on that tour. Steve and I stayed in touch and have gigged together sporadically since. Today Steve offered to teach me all about Contact Juggling, a version of juggling that I had no idea was so rare of a skill, as well as relatively recent. We get into the history of contact juggling, as well as Steve's ambition to create an act that contributes to the art form. We delve into all sorts of magic and comedy geekery throughout, so if you're into those, you're in for a treat!Follow Steve Online:https://www.facebook.com/stevewilburyentertainerhttps://www.instagram.com/steve_wilbury/http://www.stevewilbury.comDon't forget to check out Steve's Laugh, Cry or Die podcast!Kids Day Out Variety Show: https://www.kidsdayoutvariety.co.nz/Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! In this episode I am joined by comedian, singer and actor Aimée Borlase! She brought with her to the show to discuss Lily Allen's album "It's Not Me, It's You." We discuss a little bit of The Muppet's at the start which was her alternative choice, but ended up going with Lily Allen. We discuss why this album was meaningful to Aimée, some of the themes contained in the lyrics and talk about how this album and Lily Allen in general has influenced Aimée's art thus far. Aimée is a self admitted over-preparer and had prepared a ton of notes, so we ended up being able to go for a lot longer than expected as thus this is part 1 of our discussion, give me a subscribe to keep in the know for when part 2 drops in a couple of weeks!Follow Aimée Online:https://www.facebook.com/aimeeborlasehttps://www.instagram.com/aimeeborlase/https://www.youtube.com/@aimeeborlaseWatch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 21. Gates Of Heaven w/ Hoani Hotene
In today's episode I am joined by Hoani Hotene, he's a Wellington based comic and was the 2023 winner of NZ's Raw comedy competition, quite an achievement and I was delighted to have him on the show. Hoani brought with him the Errol Morris documentary Gates of Heaven, made in the 70s about people who own and operate pet cemetaries. I watched the doco the night before and we had a really fun and interesting discussion of about it, as well as Hoani's wider love of documentaries. 20. Murder w/ Aimée Thorne
Today I am joined by Aimée Thorne, and up and coming comedian from Auckland becoming known for her dark comedy. She's a part of the "Weird, Dark & Scandalous" crew, a comedy show for deviants, weirdos, outcasts, metalheads, geeks, and anybody who’s ever felt like they don’t quite fit in". Definitely get along to one of these shows if you see it being advertised! Aimée is a big fan of true crime and so I wanted to pick her brain a bit and see why people find true crime so fascinating, we also talk about a book called The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker and we talk about a few prominent NZ true crime cases. As you can expect this episode deals with some dark and potentially disturbing subject matter so please be aware of this when you listen, I won't hold it against you if you skip it!Follow Aimée Online:https://twitter.com/athornycomedyhttps://www.instagram.com/aimee.thorne/Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 19. Baseball Basics w/ John The Robert
I've been wanting to talk about baseball at length with someone ever since I saw Moneyball. Great film. John being a native american was more than happy to chat with me about it and we cover the basics of the sport, as well as a few of the more advanced intricacies of the game. Towards the end we start getting into how baseball is deeply ingrained within american culture in a very interesting discussion. John will be returning to talk about other American sports in future episodes!Follow John Online:https://www.facebook.com/JohnTheRobertWatch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 17. Origins of The Lamington w/ Danny Sewell & Fin McLachlan
I've been writing and designing for the best NZ based satire news page, The Lamington for about 3 months now and I thought it would be cool to have a chat with Danny & Fin the 2 lads behind the project. We went through the origins of the idea, how they followed through and got it off the ground, what's in store for the future of The Lamington and then we went through a couple of our sizzle reels, headlines we wished had got through but didn't for whatever reason. The interview was rife with technical issues, recording online and trying to sync up 3 conversations was a new podcasting challenge for me, and we ended up losing big chunks of the interview but what we did keep is still a great listen. I hope it makes up for the massively long episode last week.Follow The Lamington!Follow Danny online:https://www.instagram.com/dannysewell123/https://www.facebook.com/DannySewellComedyFollow Fin online:https://www.instagram.com/finnibin/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090048405551Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 16. Revisiting A 15 Year Old Idea w/ Hamish Mabon-Ross
In today's episode, I chat through an idea I had when I was around 15 or 16 years old. I started creating a flash animation of the story but possibly due to moving house or a PC dying I never got around to working on it any more. I always liked the idea for the setting, the magic system and the characters so it's never left my head all this time. I decided it would be great to bring Hamish, a fellow comic and fantasy fan onto the podcast where I could rattle off my story and ideas to him, and he could help me flesh it out as well as suggest some ideas of his own. We intended to only go for 40 minutes but we got so wrapped up in the discussion I decided to just let it roll and we've ended up with quite a long-y. If you're into worldbuilding, fantasy, comics, anime, storytelling and all that juicy stuff you'll probably really enjoy this episode, but if that's not for you then I won't begrudge you for skipping it. You might also just like to listen to me and Hamish chat for an hour, he has a very pleasing voice and I've been told the same about mine. 15. Long Live The King... Steve King... w/ Steve King
This time I decided to try out a "Two Dudes Talking" style podcast and went in without any ideas in mind, just wanted to have a chat to Steve who's a good friend of mine. Steve's a very funny comic, as well as a talented musician and artist. He loves cats too, so he's a true triple threat. We start out talking about the kings birthday holiday which was the day recorded it, and moved onto James Bond, what would a New Zealand James Bond movie be like, and then we moved into chatting about Steve more; how long has he been doing music and comedy, how did he get his start, and all those juicy details. It's a fun chat, and I hope you enjoy a change of pace for this one!You can find Steve's artistic pursuits here:https://www.instagram.com/humblekingdom/And his music endeavours here:https://www.instagram.com/gearloose/Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! 14. Crows Zero Poster Retrospective
In today's episode I rant and mostly rave for 45 minutes about this series of Japanese movies I love called Crows Zero. I show a few different versions of the international posters and talk about how hard it is for them to get the style right. I planned to go into more depth about the themes in the movies but once I started talking I mainly started raving about the things I love about the series and I'd love for you to check them out too. Let me know what you think of them in the comments!I've added ASMR to the tags as I've been told my voice and soft talking style has ASMR-ish qualities to it, let me know in the comments if you think so too!0:00 Intro1:04 Crows Manga Background5:19 Crows Zero14:13 Crows Zero 224:17 Crows Explode (3)28:52 English Posters31:08 Thai (?) 13. The Phantom Files Vol. I - Mākara Beach, The Meth Demons & The Knocker
Welcome to The Phantom Files, a series within my podcast featuring paranormal stories from New Zealand; Cryptids, Ghosts, UFOs and everything else from beyond the veil. I'm a huge fan of the Monsters Among Us podcast and so have adopted the same format except focusing as much as possible on New Zealand. I highly recommend checking out Monsters Among Us, I have gotten so many hours of entertainment from that podcast. If you've got a story you'd like me to play on the podcast, all you need to do is record the story in your own words into your phone's voice notes and then email it to me at [email protected] and I'll include them in the show! This isn't a show about ridiculing, debunking or discrediting your stories, I just love a scary story! Once I collect another 3 or 4 good stories, I'll release another episode so if you want more of these episodes, I need your help encouraging the people in your lives to send me their tales! I literally couldn't make the pod happen without listener submitted stories.Listen to The Phantom Files Vol. I, Vol. II, Vol. III and Vol. IV here, and check out my Interview with a Paranormal Investigator here.Intro/Outro Music:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fVRA6XnvYcHorror Ambience:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svAspF0nxC0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nD3Sp_saz4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrRNj9gJezA--Watch my full hour-long stand up special Ruddzilla for FREE on YouTube here!Fill out the Ruddle Me This! In this episode I talk about what gear and software you'll need to start recording content and posting it online, as well as breaking down the differences between each video platform and what sort of demographic they have and what sort of content works best with them. I also talk a bit about editing a proper special based on my experience making All My Covid Jokes towards the end.
