Today I sat down with Dan Burgess-Milne, a Christchurch based Meditation and Dharma teacher, game theory educator and rapper. This week I'm joined by local Christchurch Musician Ruby Kush! I booked a meeting room in the central Christchurch Library, Turanga and we recorded the episode there as something a bit different. We talked about her history as a musician, how she got started releasing tracks and what it's like trying to make a living as a musician in Christchurch. We also talked about her activisim and what angles she might take next year moving into politics at a local level. At The Buffet comedy taping on the 26th of October 2024 HEREI recently watched the film Manjhi – The Mountain Man, about Dashrath Manjhi, a real life Indian man who carved a road through a mountain using only hand tools over the course of 22 years to make a road for his village to get to a nearby bigger village, reducing the travel time from 2 hours to around 40 minutes. I've always been fascinated with India in general, especially after growing up watching Russell Peters specials, and years ago I watched a special by Hamish And Andy of Australia where they explored India. I'm just curious about other countries in general so Ben Vyas, a local comedian on the scene was kind enough to join me on the pod and chat about India, Mountain Man, Ganesh, his Hindu faith in general and just any other questions I had in general about the country. It's just over a week since a year to the day I left my previous job to work as a comedian full time. It's been a year of ups and downs and I've learnt a lot, most of which I tried to document in this episode of the podcasts.The questions I covered:Did I make any money this year?How much of my runway have I used?How has my lifestyle changed?How are my hands doing? You will get very frustrated with other people’s lack of organisationYou’re not obligated to reply to people straight awayYou’re going to feel like you’re shouting into the void a lotYou might find planning activities outside of work too exhausting to bother withEvery day is different. You’ll experience some of the weirdest gigs and jobs that you never saw yourself doingYou’re going to experience hella ups and downs. Stoked to be finally sitting down with Chris Ingham, a comedian from the Manawatū region of NZ and chatting about Ultra Marathon Running.
