Solve Your Hashtag Headache with Matthew Pierce of Hashtag Slayer
All the fuss about hashtags are now coming to an end!In this week's episode, Matthew Pierce of Hashtagslayer.com joined us and debunked the biggest misconception about hashtags. From just a spreadsheet of hashtag data from her wife, he was able to create Hashtagslayer.com and build it as a tool for businesses to optimize their hashtag strategy on Instagram. At the onset, Matthew clarified what hashtag really means so that we can all have a correct understanding of its use and relevance. He defines hashtag as a tool to create a system of organization within Instagram. The more relevant your hashtag is, the better it will be categorized by the algorithm. When asked about his say on the issue of only using 3 hashtags for best results, he started by saying where the update came from. First, he said that the update was from a creator's account. Second, this strategy is only applicable to accounts with very large following (100K to 500K) therefore not applicable to many users. For small businesses, 3 hashtags will barely help with its growth and reach.Relevance is huge whe using hashtags. The more long-tailed your hashtag is, the higher chances of it being relevant. Matthew shared his 3 pillars of hashtag strategy:1. hashtags that describe your business/industry2. hashtags that is specific to your content or traffic3. hashtags that describe your audience/locationFollowing these 3 tips and making sure that your content speaks directly to your audience are excellent steps in winning your hashtag strategy.Give yourself a thousand dollars worth of hashtag knowledge when you listen to this week's episode.Like the show? What Should Come First - Website or Social Media with the Business Besties
One of the biggest questions small business owners face is what should they have first - a website or a social media account?Katie said she started with a website but later on found her social media accounts can also serve as her mini websites. According to her, Facebook is one of the most indexed sites by Google. This means that if you have optimized your profile to include the best keywords to describe you, then you will still show up on Google. However, Kendra said she believes otherwise. She started with her website and gained clients from there. Her photography business grew as her website ranks on Google. Although Katie and Kendra found success in different platforms at the beginning, they certainly agree that websites and social media accounts are both important for businesses. Depending on the industry, one may be more effective than the other but as business owners, it is best to have more than one platform so you can reach more people. It is essential that one understands that YOU, the business owner, is the brand. People want to see the face behind the logo or business name. Both the website and your social media accounts have their pros and cons. Websites can be intimidating and pricey but it's something you can call your own. While social media accounts are free and easy to use, the connections you gain here are not really yours. When these social media platforms decide to shut down, everything you've invested there goes away. There are several ways to gather reviews from your clients. 5. High website traffic. The more clicks your website gets per month means that your website is seen as valuable by many users. The more relevant your website becomes, the better ranking you'll get from Google. 6. Increase your backlinks. Backlinks are links from other websites to your website. It can be from forums, social media platforms, or blogs. Lois said that it's good to have 3 to 4 more backlinks than your competitor. These can be overwhelming but you can certainly start slow. Let It Go: Smash That Perfectionism in You with Kathy Mela
In this week's episode, we had a very meaningful conversation with Kathy Mela about recovering from perfectionism and becoming a great leader. It is absolutely easier said than done. Many have been struggling with this for years, running in circles, and preventing growth.Perfectionism, according to Kathy, is striving for something that we know 100% in our subconscious that can never happen. Being a perfectionist heightens the wall around you. It gives you baggage. It stops your growth.Learning how to break perfectionism includes embracing change. When we embrace change, we allow ourselves to let go of what we cannot control. Kathy even mentioned that it takes more than knowing your WHys. It is going deeper and knowing yourself - both strengths and weaknesses. A great leader has clarity on who he/she is more than anything else because knowing who you really are allows you to focus on things that matter more. It gives you the confidence to decide strategically for you and your business.Tune in to this week's episode and go deep on smashing that perfectionism within you, and learn more about proven strategies that bring people on top of the ladder.Like the show? How Much Time Do You Spend on Social Media with the Business Besties
In this Business Besties episode, Kendra and I talked about the time we are spending on our social media. As digital entrepreneurs, it's a given fact that we spend more than the average time online. Managing our own accounts and our clients' is not an easy task as these platforms are designed to be addictive, and not to mention, associated with mental health issues. It is very important that we draw the line between mindlessly scrolling versus creating content and engaging for your business. There are a lot of times, especially when we don't have a system, that we don't realize we're spending too much time on social media. It's a two-edged sword that can make or break your business. So we recommend you assess the impact of social media to your business. How does this platform impacts your business? Does it give you clients? Does it pave the way for sales? Make an honest assessment and create your system from there. When we are aware of the impact of social media on our business, we can then become intentional with your business goals. With your intention/s in mind, you'll know what to prioritize. It will be easier for you to avoid FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out. Learn more about our strategies in managing our time with social media. Benefits of Repurposing Content with Sheryl Plouffe
What better way to maximize your content than to repurpose your existing ones. Our guest today is Sheryl Plouffe. Sheryl is a video strategist and repurposing expert. Her career started out in broadcasting. She spent about 15 years in Ontario's Weather Network. She held several positions and in 2017, she decided to start her own business. She found video marketing as the best way to deliver one's message. According to her, producing a long-form video is a good way to start your content as you can always repurpose this into short-form videos. These short-form clips are seen to be very effective for the brand or person's positioning. This allows them to be seen as the authority in their niche. She specifically mentioned that if you're objective is brand awareness, a 2-minute or less video works best. She stresses the importance of showing up in front of the camera. She said people want to work with people. You can drive connection and build trust when people see who's beyond the logo. Creating Videos Using Your Phone with Heather Hukari
We keep on hearing Katie say that if you're not doing videos now, then you're really missing out big time!In this week's episode, our guest just supported that and explained how we can all use our camera phones to create awesome videos for your social media. Heather Hukari is a videographer for 20 years now. She studied broadcasting and communication in college and can be seen mostly running around the campus with a camera. Her first job was in advertising where she do a lot of video editing for short-form videos. In 2018, she opened her business which she called Video Service Hub in Denver, and helped local businesses, small and solo entrepreneurs, to create videos using only their camera phones. She revealed that adding a video on your homepage increases the conversion rate up to 80%. She believes that the pandemic has allowed people to realize that being raw is okay. That authenticity is way better than being perfect.Creating videos using your phone only has a slight difference from that done professionally especially if you're going to use it online. There are a lot of available editing apps that you can use to edit your videos using your phone. Heather mentioned Kinemaster as one of her favorite editing app. She clarified that if you're doing a video for online marketing then you can certainly use your camera phone, but if you're doing something for TV then you can use a professional videographer. She stressed the importance of starting with Instagram stories and reels. They are so fun, easy, and short videos to create. She said that we don't have to be all glammed-up to do this, just be ourselves, and that's what's really important. She's currently offering a course about the A to Zs of creating videos using your phone and all our listeners can enjoy a huge 25% discount when you use the code: NextStepSocial.Tune in to this very relevant episode and learn everything about videos and your camera phone. Do You Know Your Conversion Checkpoints with Alyson Lex
In this week's episode, we have Alyson Lex, our favorite copywriter, join us in an elaborate discussion of how we can measure the effectiveness of a particular marketing strategy. She mentioned sales as the common display of marketing success. However, more important than the sales is the actual process of getting it. Understanding the buyer's journey from the lead capture stage to the actual buying of the product or services. She discussed how important the subject line is in getting a high open-rate. Alyson mentioned about making a compelling but significant subject line to encourage your list to open and read the email. She even shared a story about an extremely effective subject line but was found irrelevant, and eventually made a negative impact on the business as a whole. "Curiosity has its limits.", Alyson said.In the second half of the episode, Alyson talked about conversion checkpoints. We find it very helpful for everyone to understand this concept and be able to improve their customer's journey down to a particular stage. She points out important stages where leads are given the chance to decide yes or no. According to her, it is in these stages that we can assess and improve our strategy. This episode is gold so if you're itching to get better with your marketing this 2022, don't miss out on today's conversation. Sorry, Mom. I Made Friends On The Internet with the Business Besties
Remember when your parents tell you not to talk to strangers? The online space has changed a lot about how people meet. In today's episode of Rocky Mountain Marketing, we're featuring episode 1 of Business Besties where Kendra and I talked about how entrepreneurs can build relationships online. We've only met face-to-face twice last year but it's like meeting a long-time friend. It's like having an accountability partner. It's so interesting to note, as Kendra said, "We may all have our 20-plus-year friends, but there's this only one person whom we can call and talk about anything about our business."Building relationships online doesn't always have to be about making a sale. Creating meaningful relationships with fellow entrepreneurs can benefit both parties in more ways than you can expect. We've met in Clubhouse and continued the conversation over on Instagram. Instagram DM is a great tool to establish that relationship further. It's so important that you choose that one platform you would like to grow your community and focus in there.Listen in as we talk more about our friendships over the internet and how can this benefit both your personal and business growth.Like the show? It's A Wrap! Rocky Mountain Marketing's Best of the Best 2021 with Katie Brinkley
We're down to the last episode of Rocky Mountain Marketing for 2021 and all I can say is WOW!It was a crazy year but we managed to stay. YASSSS!!!We're so grateful to all our listeners, our guests, and to everyone who week after week joins us in a 30-minute of golden conversation about all things entrepreneurship and marketing. One of the highlights of 2021 was the rise of social audio. I joined Clubhouse in January and it changed the course of my business in ways that I didn't expect. I have spoken on two news channels regarding this new social audio platform and have been taking the stage daily to share social media tips, Clubhouse tips, podcast tips, and more. I’ve also closed thousands of dollars in sales, spoken at summits, and appeared on more podcasts than ever before. It was definitely a game-changer!Aside from social audio, podcasts become more popular than ever. I have guested on numerous podcasts and every single episode was full of amazing tips and lessons from other entrepreneurs' experiences. There are a lot of other business owners who are two, three, or ten steps ahead of me and it's so thrilling to get to know them, hear their insights, and learn from their stories. This year was also big in short-form videos such as Instagram Reels. There's no doubt people are drawn to catchy, fun, but informational video clips, thus Instagram announced in June that Instagram is no longer just a photo-sharing app. Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, said that they are now leaning into entertainment and videos like that of the competitors such as TikTok and Youtube. All these highlights and more were featured in this year's episodes of Rocky Mountain Marketing. Join us as we revisit these top 5 most downloaded episodes in 2021.#5 Donovan Dreyer - What You Should Know About Your Mental Health and Your Business Donovan discussed the importance of making mental health a priority especially when you're an entrepreneur. Peer Advisory Board: Learning From Other Entrepreneurs with Mary Gaul
In this week's episode, Mary Gaul discussed how important it is to participate in a mastermind, which in her own words she calls Peer Advisory Board. Having a group of entrepreneurs who are willing to listen and contribute in whatever you're in right now in your business and a certified facilitator who has the right tools to bring out the best from every member and every situation. She stressed the importance of acknowledging small wins and how great it is to celebrate with people who understands your journey. According to her, a safeplace where you can contribute your stories, tips, and thoughts is very important.Mary is a strong believer of the effectiveness of having an accountability partner. She said that there are studies that shows a majority of entrepreneurs do what they do because of an accountability partner. This also helps in creating habits and microhabits. Maximizing Facebook Groups To Grow Your Community with Jennie Wright
Podcast is definitely sweeter the second time around. In this week's episode, we have Jennie Wright. Jennie is our go-to for list building and lead generation. She is also an expert in launching summits and challenges. And for every summit, she uses a Facebook group to gather participants' email addresses, as well as engage and build a community with them. It is an amazing platform to collaborate, host masterminds, and support other members. However, Jennie reminded that in order to gather email addresses there has to be something of value that you will provide in exchange. When asked if it is better to host your own Facebook group, or just join an existing one, her straightforward answer was it depends. If you have the capacity to commit to growing the group, that is providing valuable content every day or engaging with them on a regular basis, then you might just be a perfect community manager. Otherwise, it might be beneficial to just join already existing groups of the same interest. If you're still on the fence about launching your own summit, make sure to tune in and get lots of golden nuggets from this week's conversation.Like the show?
