Today, we're talking about a movement within both the secular and Christian Right, which has been called the "trad" movement or, in some cases, the "Red Pill" movement. It perpetuates views that could easily be seen as hateful toward women. Many of the men in this movement complain about women and equate masculinity with physical fitness and ultra self-sufficiency. In some of these circles, these men emphasize the importance of finding a traditional, service-oriented, submissive wife. But it's not just men. Twitter and TikTok are littered with "trad" women complaining about feminism and claiming to be the antidote to it as "trad" wives while simultaneously representing some of the worst forms of feminism themselves: being loudmouthed, using foul language, and showing off their bodies in a way that is by no means traditional. Today we're talking about the atrocious shooting at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas, that took place Saturday. We go through the horrifying event, which took the lives of eight people, and explain why the conversation surrounding gun violence needs to be addressed in good faith by both parties, yet the Left doesn't seem to want to do that. We also look at the media response to the shooting, which – surprising no one – was filled with reporters very quickly building a narrative. Many liberal outlets almost immediately claimed from an anonymous source that the shooter had white supremacist roots despite not even being white. Today we're talking about a few stories related to abortion. First, NPR published a story about a Texas mom who couldn’t abort her baby (who was diagnosed with a fatal disorder) due to Texas’ abortion law, hoping to provoke sympathy for women who have to bring their pregnancies to term. Now the mother has claimed she cannot afford a funeral for the baby, who passed shortly after her birth. NPR appears to argue that it would have been better for the baby to have been dismembered than to be born and need a funeral. We explain why this ignores the absolute trauma of abortion, as well as the beautiful moment this baby got to see the face of her mother before she died. Then, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued a ruling which could stop the prescribing and distribution of mifepristone, one of two drugs used to perform abortions via pill, due to the FDA's flawed approval process. The opinion now waits for appeals from the Biden administration, but we discuss why this is a great win and could mean huge difficulties for getting abortions nationwide (as about half of abortions in the country are performed via pill). Today we're talking about an article published by the Gospel Coalition that has made waves in the conservative and evangelical communities. The article in question is in fact an excerpt from Josh Butler's forthcoming book, "Beautiful Union," and argues that sex and the roles of husband and wife within the act of sex point to salvation and show the relationship between Christ and the church. We discuss the backlash from popular Christian leaders and others who have deemed the article "too erotic" and "misogynistic." Ultimately, the Gospel Coalition took the article down, caving to the criticism. We also look at the theological arguments that back Butler's claims, regardless of how he may have worded the excerpt.
