Episode 38. Exploring Confidence, Intuition And Other Insights From A Performance Psychologist
“So there's a lot of pressure in change, in trying to engineer how we feel or how we think, thoughts just come into our heads randomly, who knows why we think certain things. We can respond to the thoughts but that's effortful, takes energy. So there's an alternative conceptualization which is that confidence doesn't have to be about how you feel or feeling good or having positive thoughts, confidence is more about an action and the action is driven by your values” Paul Berry told me on Episode 38 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
With a background in the field of performance psychology, Paul works with C-suite leaders, and those transitioning into leadership roles, to enhance various aspects related to organisational and individual performance.
Paul specialises in Developmental Coaching, which seeks to better understand how leaders construct their worldviews, and how this influences their approach to leadership, working relationships and decision-making. His coaching aims to enhance client critical thinking and achieve shifts in perspective.
As an experienced group facilitator, Paul works with several business psychology consultancies in the UK, delivering on large leadership development programmes. He also has an interest in developing coach expertise and has published academic work in this area.
Paul was previously a professional for nearly 15 years in the investment banking industry. He worked as an equity and credit derivatives trader for a global banking group, managing large risk positions.
Paul has numerous coaching and finance qualifications, including a masters in coaching and mentoring practice from Oxford Brookes University, a masters in Performance Psychology from the University of Edinburgh and a masters in Investment Analysis and a BA in Economics both from the University of Stirling.
I had a great conversation with Paul and talked about the following:
His interest in the psychology of performance,
Why Paul started working in Finance,
Managing stress in the financial markets and at work,
The importance of developing your network,
Reflection v Reflexivity,
Confidence and potential strategies for developing it,
Overcoming self doubt,
Managing nerves and being confident in a job interview scenario,
Intuition in decision making, and
“Kind v Wicked” environments in the context of intuition.

Episode 37. Building the Business of You: Being Strategic About Your Career Development - Connie Steele
What is a career mashup and how can it help build the business of you? Connie Steele and I discussed this, her best-selling book “Building the Business of You and so much more on Episode 37 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Appreciating your achievements and talents, especially things you find easy,
Studying mathematics but moving into marketing research after researching options in college,
Being strategic and intentional to transition into Tech with AOL to learn new skills and accelerate her own growth,
Enjoying the agile Tech environment of experimenting, learning and not worrying about failure,
Becoming the "CEO of You", viewing yourself as a product/ service and showcasing how you add value and what you stand for,
Adopting a flexible mindset to deal with the increasing uncertainty of the world,
Her new book “Building the Business of You” which looks at providing a system/ roadmap to develop your career,
Being strategic when planning and developing your career not simply working hard,
Being honest about your abilities and seeing how they dovetail with macro and micro trends to identify potential career opportunities,
Work is not always meritocratic, you need to understand the bigger picture, develop soft skills and build strong relationships,
Creating a career development plan and sharing it with trusted people in your network so that they may help guide you to your goals,
Don’t take feedback as criticism but reframe it as a data point and way to improve and
The importance of emotional intelligence, it’s a skill that you can develop.
Connie is a future of work and life expert, author, co-founder of management consultancy Flywheel Associates and host of the Strategic Momentum Podcast.
With over twenty years of experience, working at Fortune 500 (companies such as AOL and General Mills), start-up and scale-up organizations, high-growth tech companies, and consulting with C-level executives, Connie has observed firsthand how business is no longer straightforward, but collaborative and fluid. Connie has always been intrigued by the “why” behind companies and careers that thrive and has spent ten years studying the workplace trends that are now permanent changes. Her goal is to help people understand their skills, talents and interests to help them build their long term strategic approach in order for them to discover their portfolio career or superjob. She’s also passionate about helping leaders build fluid organizations to adapt and thrive in a world where uncertainty is the new certainty.
In her best-selling book “Building the Business of You,” Connie shares the trends of tomorrow so professionals can form their own career mashup – her term for the career of the future in which workers merge their skills, passions and values. Connie’s book shares future of work trends that provide the ‘why’ behind how people’s attitudes, motivations and expectations are changing with respect to work and life. Yet, it also touches on the implications to our personal and leadership development as a result. It teaches a strategic planning framework to help those take control of their career, because in today’s world you have to now be the CEO of you.
Connie’s perspectives and advice has appeared on Forbes, Authority Magazine, TechRound and Thrive Global.
Connie and I talked about how progress at work is not always directly linked to working hard and performing well and she told me: “For so many, you go into work thinking it is this meritocracy, you go in thinking it is black and white just like school ... the reality is that's not always the case at all, sometimes it is but in many instances there are so many other factors that influence an outcome and if you're not aware of that, you're not seeing the big picture, it's hard to understand. Many people get quite frustrated because they don't understand why peers might be moving up when they may not have that level of talent or commitment to delivery and so you see that there's this hidden game”.

Episode 36. Mental Wellbeing Insights From A Former Investor Turned Psychotherapist - Kelly Hearn
Looking for insights into mental wellbeing from a former investor who retrained to become a psychotherapist? Kelly Hearn discussed this, her career journey and much more on Episode 36 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Her love of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry and learning to sit with uncertainty,
Overcoming the initial rejection from the finance industry to volunteer which helped when applying to business schools,
There is more than one path to success, make a decision and be open and flexible,
Working out what is important for each of us and not being purely led by external considerations,
Working in investment management and managing stress by adopting a healthy lifestyle,
The importance of self care to manage burn out and feeling overwhelmed,
Following her interest in psychology and counselling & psychotherapy to transition out of finance,
Having open and honest conversations in the work place and managing conflict which may arise,
Reframing conflict, approaching it constructively and learning about each other’s perspective,
Managing emotions that arise and understand your part in conflict,
Looking at potential ways to change your role at your current employer before looking outside,
Don’t just use the traditional methods when job hunting, approach it like an investigative journalist, and
Taking action helps you gain more information to shape your job search.
Kelly spent the first two decades of her professional life in the left-brain world of finance. After completing an MBA at Columbia Business School in New York, she moved to London to help establish one US investment fund, and then another, in Europe.
At some point along the way, Kelly turned her analytical focus away from spreadsheets and annual reports to the existential questions of everyday life.
Kelly spent two years pursuing writing as a means for exploration while completing an MA in Creative Non-Fiction Writing at City University, London. She then trained at the Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London.
A registered member of the BACP and UKCP, Kelly has wide experience working with individual, couple and corporate clients within the NHS, private practice and at The School of Life. She is also an avid ‘sanity walker’ and yogi.
She is currently the co founder of Examined Life, which is a collective of therapists committed to innovation in the theory and practice of psychotherapy.
Kelly and I talked about questioning and understanding what is important, she said: “At some point, we need to stop following the rules and the externally set path and say what’s important to me and ask ourselves the really simple questions what do I love to do, what gives me energy, what do I get excited about, if I’m not moving in that direction, why not?”.

Episode 35. Think Differently: Insights From A Marketer To Help Level Up Your Career
"Stop comparing yourself to people, just stop, stop doing that period. Everybody had to start somewhere, everybody you're comparing yourself to was exactly where you were at some point and it doesn't happen overnight … Even though life is short, I think if you can just kind of say hey it's going to take time, I'm never going to be a finished product, I'm going to die being an unfinished product and just enjoy the process and the journey." Travis L. Scott shared with me on Episode 35 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Travis is a marketing and sales specialist and the Founder of Rainier Digital which helps companies solve interesting operational problems when it comes to marketing and sales. He also is the host of the Marketing UnBoxed and The Winding Road Podcasts.
After graduating high school, he attended Ball State University, eventually transferring to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where he graduated with a degree in Environmental Science.
Early in his career, he decided he wanted to learn more about business so he went back to school and obtained an MBA with a focus in marketing from the University of Colorado. Since then, he has worked in sales, recruiting, and eventually marketing spanning a startup in Seattle to Microsoft to a small B2B distributor in Denver.
He realized how similar marketing is to just about everything in life since it's so deeply rooted in psychology. That's when he realized he could help people by teaching basic marketing principles and demonstrating how they can apply to your career.
Travis is also the author of “Think Differently: How Recruitment Marketing Gets You Noticed Over The Noise”.
Travis and I had a great conversation and talked about the following:
The importance of resilience and ignoring negative self talk,
How curiosity and the love of learning helped him start podcasting without prior experience,
Reassessing his priorities following the pandemic,
Strategies for overcoming ageism in the job search,
Choosing work which is fun and fulfilling rather than simply based on pay,
How playing sport developed his mental strength, resilience and discipline,
Initially working for the public sector but transitioning into sales and recruitment,
Working as a recruiter for a global tech company and insights for job seekers from a recruiter's perspective,
Creating content helps to share your knowledge and values,
Using marketing principles to build your personal brand,
Focusing on the process and your own journey rather than comparing yourself to others,
Writing his book on recruitment marketing in six months in an Akimbo workshop, and
Becoming comfortable with "good enough", perfection is not always required,

Episode 32. Find Your Dream Job: Strategies For Finding Work & Advancing In Your Career
"Employers hire people to solve problems and you need to recognize that and you need to explore that when you do have a job interview with a hiring manager … if you want to distinguish yourself from your competitors … one of the best ways to do that is to ask the hiring manager what's keeping him or her up at night … and you have an opportunity to reflect back on your own experience and share examples of how you've solved a similar problem or you can talk about your ideas for solving that problem and when you do that the nature of the conversation changes, you're becoming almost peers because you're working together to solve a problem" Mac Prichard shared with me on Episode 32 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Mac is a communications strategist and career expert based in Portland, Oregon. He is the founder and publisher of Mac’s List, where he writes regularly about job hunting, leads classes on job search skills, and hosts the Find Your Dream Job podcast.
He also owns and operates Prichard Communications, a public relations agency that serves non-profits, public agencies, and foundations across the United States. Prior to running his own business, Mac had many years experience working in politics, government and non-profits.
He has a degree in political science from the University of Iowa and a masters in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
He is the author of two books: Land Your Dream Job Anywhere and Land Your Dream Job in Portland (and Beyond). When he’s not hard at work, Mac can be found watching classic movies, taking photos during his travels, or walking around Ladd’s Addition with his wife Kris and Weimaraner Kai.
Mac and I had an enjoyable conversation and talked about the following:
His interest in politics from an early age and studying politics at the University of Iowa.
Working on political campaigns and the skills he learnt,
Developing his interest in communication through role models in his family,
How volunteering helped Mac secure a position with a human rights organisation in Washington,
Changing his job search strategy and using informational interviews to find a new job which was not advertised,
Setting goals and being clear about what you want during your job search,
Starting Prichard Communications whilst still in employment, which helped him manage the risk of starting his own business,
Insights into the hiring process and looking at it from the hiring manager’s perspective,
Potential strategies to demonstrate problem solving skills at interview,
Taking charge of your career development and being proactive, and
Not being afraid to follow up politely after making a request as sometimes people are too busy and forget to respond.

Episode 31. Making Your Voice Heard - How To Influence Those With More Power - Dr Connson Locke
Looking for ways to improve your communication at work and influence those people with more power? Dr Connson Locke, the author of Making Your Voice Heard, and I discussed this and much more on Episode 31 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Graduating from Harvard and starting her career in the non-profit sector,
Moving to Hong Kong and working in management consulting,
Developing an interest in training and teaching, which she developed at the Boston Consulting Group,
Earning a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley,
Her book Making Your Voice Heard and upward influence,
The four channels of communication: words, voice, touch and visual,
The importance of non-verbal communication, including facial expression, body language and tone of your voice, especially when communicating an opinion,
How to look and sound more confident through eye contact, voice and posture amongst other things,
French and Raven’s 5 bases of power, including developing Expert and Referent Power,
When starting a new job, taking time to understand the organisation and its power dynamics before trying to change things,
Stereotype threat,
Potential techniques for feeling more powerful such as visualisation,
Creating a “smile file” of positive feedback that you have received to pick you up in difficult moments,
Power posing and the research of Amy Cuddy and her colleagues,
Focusing on growing your Circle of Influence not your Circle of Concern,
The importance of picking your battles, upward influence takes time and effort.
Connson is a Professorial Lecturer at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She joined the LSE in 2008 where she teaches Leadership, Organizational Behaviour, and Negotiation and Decision Making. Connson has over 30 years’ experience as an educator, coach, and consultant working in Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, and Australia. Prior to entering academia, she served as Regional Training and Development Manager for the Boston Consulting Group where she was responsible for the learning and development of consulting staff in 10 offices across Asia Pacific.
Connson was awarded the LSE Department of Management’s Outstanding Teaching Contribution Award in 2013, was highly commended for Inspirational Teaching in the LSE Student-Led Teaching Excellence Awards 2015 and 2017, and received the LSE Excellence in Education Award in 2018.
Connson holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Organizational Behaviour) from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Sociology from Harvard University where she graduated with honours. Her book, Making Your Voice Heard, uses the research on power and influence to help people speak up to those who have more power than they do.
Connson told me: “Expert and referent power are really important … think about it as a reputation that you're building over time and the stronger that reputation when it comes time for you to actually suggest a change to the company or complain about something … then they will go "oh maybe we should listen" … it's a long-term strategy. So the expert power is basically people respect you for something for some kind of expertise, it doesn't have to be an expertise on the particular thing that they're discussing at that moment but it has to be an expertise in something that's important … The referent power is people want to work with you, they want to have this good relationship with you, you have a reputation as someone who's great to work with”.

Episode 30. The First, The Few The Only: Redefining Power In Companies - Deepa Purushothaman
Interested in learning more about the strategies that helped Deepa Purushothaman become ‘a first’: an Indian American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in Deloitte's history. She discussed this, her book, “The First, The Few, The Only” and much more on Episode 30 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Her starting out in consulting at Deloitte as the only non-business school graduate in her intake,
The attributes that helped her become one of the youngest partners in Deloitte’s history,
Being comfortable about not knowing everything and asking other people,
Why Deepa transitioned out of her successful consulting career,
Starting her new company nFormation with Rha Goddess,
Why she wrote her book “The First, The Few, The Only”,
Taking power and control back,
Dealing with micro aggressive behaviour,
Navigating your career in a strategic way not just working harder,
How to play the game while you change the game,
Analysing if you should you stay at a company or leave and finding the right destination, and
Don’t fear leaving your job and the associated title and status.
Deepa is the author of The First, The Few, The Only: How Women of Color can Redefine Power in Corporate America and the co-founder of nFormation, a company which provides a brave, safe, and new space for professionals who are women of color.
Prior to this, Deepa spent more than twenty years at Deloitte and was ‘a first’: an Indian American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in the company’s history.
In her time there, she helped grow Deloitte's Social Impact Practice, served as a National Managing Partner of Inclusion, and served as the Managing Partner of WIN—the firm’s renowned program to recruit, retain, and advance women.
Focusing on women’s leadership and inclusion strategies, Deepa’s mission is to help women of color navigate the complex and often opaque corporate structures of today—helping them not only take a seat at the table, but change the way the table is formed.
Deepa has degrees from Wellesley College, Harvard Kennedy School, and the London School of Economics. She speaks extensively on women and leadership. She has been featured at national conferences and in publications including Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The Huffington Post, and Harvard Business Review.
Deepa and I talked about not putting up with situations that are not beneficial for us and she told me "The advice you're talking about is from one of my mentors, it's my favorite business advice and he said "never need a client more than you want a client" … but I do think it applies to life and I think part of what my work is about is in meeting all these women, now I've met thousands of women of color, I think there's also a lot that we're taught consciously and unconsciously so I think as a children of immigrants a lot of us were taught security is important, to stay in the job, just be quiet, just put up with it, like that setup as an example makes us stay in situations that don't work for us."

Sophia and I talked about starting her tech business and told me "When I was doing my MBA at Chicago Booth, I actually remember I wrote in my application essay that my plan was to come up with an idea for a business, get a team and raise some money during my MBA and then leave business school for this company. I mean I didn't actually expect it to happen, I thought it would be nice if it happened, I didn't expect it to happen but you know what it did happen! I tested the idea, I had to do a lot of ego busting work to raise money but somehow I did it and essentially the team and I, we came up with an idea for a fashion tech company."

Episode 28. Why Kindness Is The Must-Have Superpower For Leaders - Julie Adam
Why is kindness such an important characteristic for leaders? Julie Adam, author of Imperfectly Kind and the Executive Vice President & General Manager at Universal Music Canada, discussed this, her successful career in the music industry and much more on Episode 28 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Her love of baseball and music from childhood;
The creative process and how taking time for yourself outside work helps;
Dealing with nerves;
How her mentors helped her realise that her skills lay in working behind the scenes rather than on air;
Making the most of an unexpected opportunity in an interim role as Program Director which became permanent;
Overcoming limiting beliefs to write her book;
How Julie created a management style of being kind which aligned with her values but was also great for her business;
Being kind does not mean you can’t make tough decisions;
Taking ownership for your career development;
Why it pays to be nice to everyone not just those with power;
Being flexible and dealing with uncertainty; and
Finding a job that you find fulfilling and is true to yourself and your values.
Julie is currently the Executive Vice President & General Manager at Universal Music Canada. Prior to this, she was responsible for driving the strategy and overseeing the management and development of Rogers Sports & Media’s local and national News & Entertainment brands, including the likes of CityNews, 98.1 CHFI, Citytv, KiSS 92.5, Pacific Content, Frequency Podcast Network, FX/FXX, OLN, OMNI Television, and Rogers tv. As President of News & Entertainment, her portfolio included Rogers Sports & Media’s 54 radio stations, 2 podcast networks, 29 local television stations, and 15 television channels.
With decades of experience in radio and broadcasting, Julie is a passionate and dedicated leader in her industry.
She began her career at Rogers in 1999 as the KiSS 92.5 Program Director. Since then, Julie has been recognized as Canada’s first female Vice President of Programming and is a recipient of the Rosalie Award from Radio Trailblazers. Julie is a graduate of Ryerson University and holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree, with a major in Radio and Television.
Julie is proud to sit on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, MusiCounts, Radioplayer Canada, and Canadian Broadcast Sales. At Rogers, Julie was Chair of Rise for Women, a part of the Rogers Women’s Network, and sat on the board of the company’s Inclusion & Diversity Council.
I met Julie through Seth Godin’s writing in community course, which led to her book “Imperfectly Kind: Why Kindness Is The Must-Have Superpower You Need To Lead”, which is an enjoyable read.
Julie and I talked about how you can be kind but firm as a leader and told me "Sometimes, people mistake kindness with weakness and that you can’t be a kind boss because then you’re giving up your power, that’s not it at all. In fact what I’ve learned in business is that often by being kind, you get more as a leader, people want to try harder because you treat them well. That does not mean that you let them do whatever they want or no matter how good or bad people are at their job, they get to stay in it, it’s the opposite."

Episode 27. The Principles Of Influence & Persuasion - Brian Ahearn
Interested in learning more about the principles of influence and the ground breaking work of famed psychologist, Dr Robert Cialdini? Brian Ahearn, author, coach and consultant talked about this, his work and much more on Episode 27 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Applying the self discipline that he picked up from sport to work and aligning that to a goal;
How Brian first formed a connection with Dr Cialdini simply by being helpful;
The seven principles of Influence: liking, reciprocity, social proof, authority, commitment and consistency, scarcity and unity;
Using the liking principle to build relationships;
Creating content and social proof;
Reciprocity in the business environment;
Looking for things to like about people rather than making them like you;
Reciprocity may be used against you;
Applying influence when looking to be promoted at work;
Pre-Suasion, the concept of unity and how it helped Brian get engaged to his wife!, and
His new book, "The Influencer".
Brian is a dynamic international keynote speaker, author, coach and consultant. He specializes in applying the science of influence in everyday situations.
He is one of only a dozen individuals in the world who currently holds the (CMCT) designation and one of just a handful to have earned the Cialdini Pre-suasion Trainer® (CPT) designation.
These specializations in the psychology of persuasion were earned directly from Dr Robert Cialdini, the most cited living social psychologist in the world on the science of ethical influence. I am a huge fan of Dr Cialdini’s work and his book “Influence” is the one that I most often reference on my podcast.
A cum laude graduate of Miami University, Brian has been in the business arena for more than 30 years and training people for over two decades. Brian is also a Competent Toastmaster and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.
Brian’s first book – was named one of the Top 100 Influence Books of All Time by BookAuthority. His second book, Persuasive Selling for Relationship Driven Insurance Agents, was an Amazon new release bestseller in several categories. His new book is “The Influencer”, which is a fictional account of how an ordinary young man, develops his influencing skills by learning from clients, colleagues and mentors and is partly based on stories from Brian's personal journey.
Brian shared this fascinating insight about Dr Robert Cialdini and his groundbreaking work on influence "Dr Cialdini … had an instinct that if we really want to understand the social influence process we can't confine it to a laboratory ... we've got to get out into the real world. So he took almost a three-year hiatus from teaching and he went out and got jobs … then after that three years he stepped back and he looked at everything that he had learned and he combined it with his understanding of the influence process … and he said you know what there are really six principles, now a seventh, but at the time six universal principles that people all across the globe tend to respond to in one way or another."

Episode 26. Talking Careers - Insights From The First Year Of The Show
“We're not trying to tell people think this way, or think that way. What we're saying is just stop and think, just stop and think … Do you have what you want? Is it working for you? If not, be true to yourself. Reframe, reset what you need to, there is not one definition of success. You may have a definition of success, or a definition of how you should be going about what you want to achieve all these years of your life, then you wake up one day and you say this isn't what I want at all and so you can change it if you want,” Tammy Gooler Loeb shared with me on Episode 26 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Episode 26 is slightly different in format as it marks the 1-year anniversary of the show. Tammy, who hosts the "Work from the Inside Out" podcast, kindly agreed to co-host the show. We discuss and celebrate some of the insights and lessons that have been shared by the guests on Reframe & Reset Your Career. I first met Tammy in late 2020 to chat about podcasting and her encouragement gave me the final push to launch my own podcast and a YouTube channel just a few months later, thanks Tammy!

Prior to establishing her practice, Tammy held a variety of positions in mental health services, higher education administration, public policy analysis and fundraising. Her practical knowledge and experience in organizational and leadership development, workplace communications, and change management builds a relatable relationship with clients striving for higher performance results.
Tammy has written a book also titled: Work from the Inside Out: Break Through Nine Common Obstacles and Design a Career that Fulfills You, which will be published on 25th January. The book includes 22 real-life stories that illustrate the hurdles that can hold you back, offering successful strategies and reflective activities that will move your thinking and actions toward new possibilities.

Managing failure;
My interest in neuroscience and how this inspired the podcast;
Starting the podcast and how Tammy’s encouragement helped overcome limiting beliefs;
Growth Mindset;
Luck and creating opportunities for yourself by being curious;
Defining what success means from each of our perspectives;

Ruth told me “Everyone thinks, I'm going to do a good job, people will recognise it and I will get promoted or recognised or whatever it is. The problem is that's not how it works! There's been a lot of research on this for over a quarter of a century and the needle has not moved on this … remember the word pie, P.I.E. … P is performance, I is your image and E is your exposure … the amount of your success that's actually based on your performance … is only 10%, that's it, 10%, your image is 30% and your exposure is 60%!”.

Episode 24. Reframing Setbacks To Succeed On And Off The Pitch
"You've got to move forward, you've got to make sure that wherever you are each day, you're somewhere in front of where you were yesterday and if you take that simple approach other stuff works because you're always going to be dealing with something in your life that's not perfect" Jamie Cox shared this insight with me about the importance of managing failure both in cricket and life on Episode 24 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.

Jamie is currently the Assistant Secretary, Cricket and Operations, at the Marylebone Cricket Club ("MCC"), where he looks after all the cricket departments of the MCC, including the delivery of the Out-Match programme, which sees the Club play around 500 fixtures each year, and the important overseas touring schedule. Deb spoke with me about becoming comfortable with fear and how this was developed through competing nationally in gymnastics in the US and said "You're building physical muscles but also ... building mental muscles and facing fear, getting used to continually facing fear and discomfort and knowing that as you're going through the learning process when you're trying something new, you're going to suck at it at first and you have to be okay with that if you're ever going to become awesome at anything. The ability to stick with it, the ability to try new things and a little bit of risk taking, I think a lot of that I got from my experience in gymnastics."

Episode 22. Demystifying The Path To Success In Investing & Finance
“I wanted to work for an investment company … one of the regulators had a list of investment companies listed A to Z, so I had a very simple strategy. I started off with the ones starting with an A and wrote them all a letter … none of the initial As replied and I was just about to start on the Bs but I got a letter from a company beginning Ar and they said "we’re interested, come and have a chat with us" and that was purely good luck”. My good friend, Chris Bailey shared with me how he managed to get his big break into the investment industry, which set him on the path to a successful career without the aid of connections or contacts, simply hard work and writing lots of letters!
Chris is the founder of Financial Orbit, a research and investment consulting firm. He has 25 years of investment industry experience at long-only and long-short institutions as a global multi-asset fund manager, strategist/macro thinker and, in the earlier part of his career, as a securities and fund analyst.
He strongly believes in the importance of the fusion of top-down and bottom-up analysis taking a view that an understanding of both aspects is the only way to get a full view of global opportunities.
Prior to Financial Orbit Limited, Chris worked for a London based fund management group and headed the team for a range of globally directly invested mutual funds, personally running the Growth, Balanced and Conservative funds (collectively around US$2bn of assets) all of which were either first or second quartile against their respective peer groups from inception in 2010 to the end of 2012. In the four years prior to this, for the same fund management company, he managed global thematic equity and European equity funds that also outperformed their benchmarks.
He is in the process of writing a book on his journey in the investing world which will be published in 2022.
We had a great conversation and talked about the following:
How he became interested in investing through breakfast TV,
The need for continuous learning in your career;
The role psychology plays in investing;
The danger of group think;
Learning from your mistakes;
Accepting failure and moving on;
How he got his first break into the investment industry;
Developing an enquiring mind and interest in investing to help your job search;
Insights from working for a hedge fund;
Dealing with pressure;
Leaving a successful career to start his own venture; and
Recovering from a serious illness.

Previously he ran his own company, Deeper Learning Ltd, a global executive education consultancy. He was also an Associate Professor of IE Business School, an Associate Fellow of Said Business School at the University of Oxford, and Leadership Consulting and Coaching for INSEAD.

Steven D'Souza talked with me about the illusion of control and said: "Just take an example from the book “Not Knowing”, we talked about the “Thinking Fast And Slow” work by Daniel Kahneman and he talks about over 100 unconscious biases from primacy bias, recency, confirmation bias etc. He says if you think you have reasons for your beliefs you're probably mistaken and an example from chess … to be a grandmaster generally you have very high cognitive abilities … and they can think roughly around 15 moves ahead. That's a lot of moves ahead to hold in in your mind but they play in a game with fixed and predictable rules. Whereas we're operating in a world now where people are acting rationally and irrationally, predictably and unpredictably, so it's impossible that one person can have all the answers or know."

If things are not working out in your current job, it's important to take action and not stay stuck. The first step may not take you to your ideal destination but if you persist, hopefully it will. I first met Shola through the Toastmasters programme, although she was a significantly more accomplished public speaker than me. Shola is a Distinguished Toast Master, the highest level you’re able to achieve.
Shola told me: "You've got to think “well is this how I want to spend a significant portion of my life” because time is the one thing that we cannot replace … but there's just something in your gut that says this isn't right and you just have to keep taking the next step and the next step … and eventually hoping that all those steps will take you to a place where this is where I need to be and the experiences I've had in the past all lend themselves to me being successful in this moment in this time that I'm at now”.

Episode 12. Work From The Inside Out
"There are ways that you can try to connect with somebody and let them feel seen and understood, it reminds me of something that Dale Carnegie said “be interested not interesting”, so take the focus off of yourself and show an interest in the other person but in a way where you are genuinely interested not just on the surface" Tammy Gooler Loeb kindly shared with me on Episode 12 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Tammy is an Executive and Career Coach, Speaker, Facilitator and the founder and host of the “Work From The Inside Out” podcast. She is passionate about working with clients to achieve growth and deeper satisfaction in their careers and work relationships. She does this by providing individual coaching, training, speaking programs and team facilitation in a wide variety of industries and professions.
Tammy brings over 25 years of professional experience to her work and is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach by the Coaches Training Institute and a graduate of the Co-Active Space Leadership Program. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Hampshire College and an MBA from Boston University.
Prior to establishing her practice, Tammy held a variety of positions in mental health services, higher education administration, public policy analysis and fundraising. Her practical knowledge and experience in organizational and leadership development, workplace communications, and change management builds a relatable relationship with clients striving for higher performance results.
Tammy is the author of a book also titled “Work From The Inside Out”, which will be published later in the year.
It was a particular pleasure having Tammy on the show as she has been a great supporter and invited me on to her podcast shortly after we first met last year. I had a great time on her show and this helped push me to launch my podcaast in January and a YouTube Channel shortly afterwards.
Tammy and I had a great conversation and discussed the following:

How Her Parents Influenced Her Life’s Work;
Working In The Mayor’s Office In Boston & Insights Into Public Policy;

Episode 10. Recycleye: Turning Trash Into Treasure
“Recycleye was Victor looking at the waste industry and also what I was doing in computer vision and then … here's some technology that could solve this problem and applying it to the industry … specifically on things that are currently manual” Peter Hedley told me on Episode 10 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Peter is the co-founder and CTO of Recycleye, a London-based intelligent waste management start up, which is training the world’s most powerful recycling robotics with machine learning to sort recycling waste in a more efficient manner. Recycleye was founded by Victor Dewulf, CEO, and Peter, who first met at the University of Bath.
Their team of technologists and creatives has developed computer vision algorithms that replicate the power of human vision to identify every item in entire waste streams – broken down by material, object and even brand.
Recycleye secured £1.2 million in seed funding last December with MMC Ventures and Playfair Capital leading the round, with participation from leading funds. They recently sold their first machine, which is an amazing achievement!
Peter has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bath and a Masters in Computer Science from Imperial College, London.
I first met Peter three years ago when he was setting up a Technology Club along with Jack Young and Sam Collins. I knew nothing about technology but was interested in learning more and became friends with Peter, Jack and Sam. Peter was helpful when I started designing a personal development App based on neuroscience and psychology and from this research came the Reframe & Reset Your Career Podcast and YouTube channel.
Peter and I had such a great conversation and we talked about the following:
His Interest in Technology and Pivot to Computer Science,
Meeting Victor and the start of Recycleye,
How He Finds New Ideas,
Technology as a medium of delivering content,
Reimagining your Career as a Start Up and Extracting Value for Your Skills,
The Reality of Working For a Start Up,
Thinking Creatively to Develop Their First Prototype,
Ways of Developing Creativity.
The Evolution of His Role As Recycleye Has Grown,
Switching Between Deep Work And Daily Tasks,
Managing Uncertainty On A Personal & Company Level
Finding A Path Into The Tech Industry, and
Fostering An Open Company Culture

Episode 8. The Mindset of a Pro Athlete
"Most guys who are playing professionally are good players technically and there’s not a huge amount to differentiate them. So what often is the factor that sets them apart … is what they’re like mentally", Robbie White, kindly shared with me on Episode 8 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
Robbie is a professional cricketer with one of England’s top cricket clubs, Middlesex CCC. Robbie has been on Middlesex’s radar from the age of 10 and spent three years in their Academy before gaining a full-time contract with the club.
Prior to becoming a full time professional cricketer with Middlesex, Robbie attended Loughborough University, where he studied Psychology as he has always been interested in the mental side of sport.
Robbie is a batsman and wicket keeper and he scored heavily in the 2nd team which helped him into the first team in 2018 & 2019. He also spent a stint on loan at Essex in 2019, giving him yet more valuable experience at a first team level, where he played with Sir Alastair Cook, one of England’s greatest cricketers, and Peter Siddle, one of Australia’s top fast bowlers.
Over the winter Robbie used his time off to start working for David James Wealth as a Client Relationship Manager to start gaining experience in the business world to help him navigate his life after cricket.
I was interested in interviewing Robbie as I played a lot of cricket when I was young, funnily enough, I played for the junior Middlesex and Essex teams, and found the mental side of cricket fascinating! Cricket is unique in the mental demands it places on the players due to the length of the game, one match may last for five days. Although it is a team sport, there is no place to hide as individual statistics are reported constantly and analysed just like baseball.
I also liked that Robbie took the time over the Winter to explore career options after his cricket career ends. However well he does as a cricketer, there are many years of work to be filled after cricket and it is important to be prepared. Unfortunately, there are many athletes, including cricketers, who have found the transition to life after sport quite difficult.
I had a great conversation with Robbie, it was especially impressive as this was his first podcast and we discussed the following:
Studying Psychology at University
Growth Mindset & Sport
How Robbie Uses Psychology in Cricket
Playing and Learning from Great Cricketers
Finding a Way to Succeed
Dealing with Stress & Pressure
Navigating the Team Environment
Maintaining Confidence Despite Constant Setbacks
Coping with Failure and
Exploring Opportunities Outside Cricket

Episode 7. Luck = Talent + Opportunity!
Lindsey Stewart is an investor engagement expert who works for KPMG's UK audit practice. He has a 20-year career in financial services and holds the CFA and CIMA qualifications in financial analysis and management accounting. An avid communicator, Lindsey has authored many articles and publications on a variety of topics: from technical accounting, to audit and corporate governance, to soft skills, to inclusion and diversity. As a senior Black finance professional from a working class background, he is keen to explore ways to remove barriers - whether societal or psychological - that prevent talented individuals from less privileged groups from reaching their full potential.
I first met Lindsey two years ago when he joined the CFA UK Soft Skills Working Group for whom I had been volunteering for a year. I quickly found that Lindsey had a passion for building on his already considerable knowledge in this area as well as a wide range of interests outside work, which I shared like music, sport and comedy, including Chris Rock!
We quickly became friends and during lockdown last year, Lindsey reached a 20 year milestone in his career and I offered to interview him for a podcast to mark the landmark. The first effort was not bad but we realised that we were capable of better so we recorded again and released the podcast, which generated some positive feedback.
Up to that point, I had not considered podcasting so Lindsey’s interview played a pivotal role in the my starting to consider a podcast. Initially I wanted to host it with Lindsey, unfortunately, he was too busy so I talked myself into starting it myself. Now here we are less than a year later and I have the pleasure of interviewing Lindsey. We had a great conversation talking about the following:
Becoming Resilient and Learning From Setbacks
How Lindsey Gained His Big Break into Finance
The Value of Gaining Professional Qualifications
The Significance of Soft Skills In Your Career
Why Emotional Intelligence is Important for Leaders
Potential Strategies for Job Seekers and
Building Relationships Rather than Networking

Hopefully this will inspire you to start taking the steps to your dream future.

Grace has a PhD in Economics, and an undergraduate degree in computer science. Her research is focused on understanding why some individuals succeed in life and others don't. She is an expert on the effects of bias, discrimination and technology changes. Grace is an expert advisor to the UK government sitting on their skills and productivity board. Her academic writings have been published in top international journals in economics and the broader social sciences. "Think Big, Take Small Steps and Build the Future you Want" is her first book. Grace is a regular keynote and panel speaker at corporate events.
I first came across Grace through an excellent discussion on Careers which she was hosting at the LSE and the panel included our good friend Dorie Clark. I found her work interesting and reached out to her and she generously agreed to appear on the podcast.

Dorie Clark discussed this, her book “The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World” from Harvard Business Review Press and much more on Episode 5 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
How Dorie bounced back after losing her dream job in journalism,
The importance of content creation to help you stand out and build your brand,
Why you should not be shy about marketing yourself,
Creating multiple revenue streams for your business,
Being proactive and thinking differently when looking for a job,

Dorie Clark is an adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and the author of Entrepreneurial You, which was named "one of the most important business books of the year" by Inc. magazine and one of the Top 5 Books of the Year by Forbes, Reinventing You and Stand Out, which was named the #1 Leadership Book of 2015 by Inc. magazine.

I first came across Dorie, when I saw a video of one of her talks, five years ago on a personal development course run by Lucy Whitehall and CABA. Dorie's ideas on reinvention and personal branding resonated with me and I reached out to her via her website. This was something that I rarely did, I did not expect to hear back and had no thoughts of starting a podcast at the time. I was amazed when she kindly responded, we started emailing, became friends over the years and I joined her REx group. Now fast forward five years, I had the pleasure of having her on my podcast and we had such a fun interview!
Dorie talked to me about why content creation is important for personal branding and told me "I'm definitely a big believer in that you need at bats because it is very hard to predict. I mean when I was first writing my first book "Reinventing You", prior to coming to that as a topic, I had come up with three different ideas for potential first books that I could create and you know it turns out like pretty much no one was interested in any of them! … "Reinventing You" actually stemmed from a random blog post that I had written for Harvard Business Review that for some reason, I did not think it was special, in any particular way but the market was like “this, we want this” and so it ended up turning into my first book!".

In this episode, we will learn about:
Self-discipline and what it takes to be great,
How talent only takes you so far,
Dealing with pressure: how professional exams feel like a tennis match,

Ivana comes from a high performance sporting background, having played tennis from a young age and competed at an international level. When she was 5, her dad built a tennis court in their backyard and became her full-time coach for several years, travelling to tournaments across Canada and Europe. She was consistently ranked in the Top 4 in Alberta, Canada and regularly competed at national tournaments, reaching the quarter-finals of the U14 Canadian Outdoor Nationals.
She was recruited to play on the NCAA Div. 1 women's tennis team at the University of Delaware, where she broke the school record for all-time career singles wins. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) from the CFA Society of the UK. She was a team captain at the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club in London, UK and regularly competed in the Middlesex and National Club leagues.
I met Ivana whilst volunteering for the CFA Society of the UK and we found that we both had a background in high performance sports, in my case it was cricket. We both realised that there were a number of lessons from sport that we were able to apply from our sporting experience to our careers and life in general. We had an enjoyable chat and Ivana was generous with sharing her stories and experience.

I first met Lucy five years ago on a “Managing Personal Change Effectively” course organised by CABA, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association, which Lucy presented. It was the first time that a personal development course resonated with me as she introduced me to Carol Dweck’s work on the growth mindset and neuroscience concepts. This inspired me to start my personal development journey, which helped bring about the “Reframe & Reset Your Career” podcast so thank you Lucy!
Lucy is also a big fan of Dorie Clark and she showed one of Dorie’s talks on the course. This was the first time that I had heard of Dorie’s work, which inspired me to reach out to Dorie, we connected and Dorie kindly agreed to be a future guest on the podcast!
Lucy told me "this work by Carol Dweck was essentially postulating that it's the way that we approach challenge and difficulty in life that really leads to the outcome. So are we going to approach it with a mindset that is what she calls fixed, this idea of really not seeing the opportunity. Also this concept of seeing failure as the end … people with a growth mindset they will also feel disappointed, hurt and sad when they fail but what they do differently is to pick themselves up and say yes this hurts this feels really uncomfortable, I don't want to fail but they then start asking themselves I wonder what I can do differently next time, who can I talk to, what resources can I draw on, what can I learn and who can I learn it from"

Episode 2. The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck - Dr Christian Busch
Would you like to know more about potential strategies and mindsets that can help bring more luck and serendipity into your life? Dr Christian Busch and I discussed this, his bestselling book and much more on Episode 2 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Casting your net as wide as possible when applying for jobs as it’s a numbers game,
The process of creating opportunities for serendipity to potentially arise,
Developing a process to deal with the unexpected,
Building meaningful not transactional relationships,
Reframing situations and looking for potential opportunities,
Setting serendipity hooks when meeting new people to find common interests,
Following his passion for serendipity to write his book and
Taking calculated/ managed risks when managing your career similar to a company using a portfolio approach.
Christian is a business professor at USC Marshall and a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE). He served as Inaugural Co-Director of the LSE's Innovation Center, directed NYU’s CGA Global Economy Program, and is the co-founder of Sandbox Network, a global community of young innovators, as well as of Leaders on Purpose, an organization convening leading CEOs.
Christian's bestselling book, The Serendipity Mindset (Penguin Random House), has been highlighted as a "wise, exciting, and life-changing book" (Arianna Huffington, Founder, Huffington Post); a "bracing and hopeful antidote to a world addicted to efficiency and control" (Daniel Pink, Bestselling author of Drive); "highly recommended" (Reid Hoffman, Co-Founder, LinkedIn); and offering "excellent practical guidance for all" (Paul Polman, former CEO, Unilever). The book has been updated and is now called "Connect The Dots: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck."
He describes in his book that he was rebellious as a teenager and this resulted in a life changing event when he ended up in a serious car accident, which made him question the meaning of his life. He developed a keen interest in serendipity from that day onwards and this also helped him to start turning his life around and focus on his academic career, which clearly paid off resulting in his PhD from the LSE!
His research has been published in leading journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, and was featured by Harvard Business Review, Stanford Social Innovation Review, The Guardian, Fast Company, BBC, Forbes, GOOP podcast, WIRED, Handbook of Inclusive Innovation, among others. In 2016, he received the 'Best Paper Award' (Entrepreneurship) of Emerald Publishing, and the 'Best Social Entrepreneurship Paper Award' of the Academy of Management.
The way in which I first came across Christian might have been a story straight from his book. I was watching YouTube in July 2020, saw a talk on The Serendipity Mindset and found it resonated with me. Then I cheekily reached out to him through LinkedIn and he kindly agreed to participate in a webinar that I was organising. The webinar went well and he was kind enough to be the first guest to commit to the podcast.

Episode 1. The Neuroscience Behind Change - Dr Gabija Toleikyte
Want to gain insights into the neuroscience behind creating change, habits, decision making and gain a better understanding of some of our actions? Dr Gabija Toleikyte discussed this and much more on Episode 1 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast.
In this episode, we will learn about:
Habits - why we form them, what needs they serve, why it’s so difficult to change them and potentially looking for alternatives to those habits. Forming new habits takes time and repetition.
Emotions - The role of emotions and learning how to understand our emotions and their underlying cause. Activities such as meditation, physical exercise, and time with loved ones may help to calm emotions.
Motivation versus Inspiration – finding those activities and work which inspire you may help to increase motivation.
Procrastination – it’s important to understand the root causes of procrastination and then tackle the cause to improve productivity.
Decision making – when we have too many decisions to make, we may become stuck in analysis paralysis, and eliminating the decisions that don’t matter may help.
The “Amygdala hijack” may lead to us saying or doing things we regret so it’s best to not make any important decisions at this time!
Overwhelming levels of stress are not good for performance but there are certain levels of stress which may help focus.
The importance of sleep, exercise, and nutrition for brain health.
Finally as an extra bonus, insights into personal relationships and why we are attracted to certain people.
Dr Gabija Toleikyte is a neuroscientist, lecturer, and performance and wellbeing coach. She is currently a lecturer in psychology at Sheffield Hallam University and her first book, “Why the F*ck can’t I change?”, will be published in January 2021.
There were two significant events that helped develop Gabija’s interest in neuroscience, Firstly, when she was around 8 years old, she went to see a neurologist to deal with some migraines and he explained to her in detail how the brain worked, which fascinated her. There was a second slightly more sad event as her father had a stroke which severely affected him, fortunately, after intense therapy for three months he made a good recovery.
Gabija completed her PhD at University College London and her PhD findings were published in one of the highest impact research journals, Nature Neuroscience, in 2017. Prior to that, she undertook award-winning research on Parkinson’s disease at the University of Helsinki.
During her PhD, Gabija also qualified as a business coach and coached UCL academics and administrative staff. Combining her neuroscience background with coaching experience Gabija started her own consulting company, providing coaching and seminars for organizations and the general public. Gabija is also a TEDx speaker and her work has been featured in the Guardian.
I first met Gabija in 2017 at one of her evening lectures and quickly became a huge fan of hers and neuroscience and have attended a number of her lectures and workshops since then. I was so pleased when she agreed to appear as the first guest on my podcast and we had such a fun conversation.
Gabija discussed the importance of motivation or inspiration in relation to personal productivity and told me "I like to move from motivation to inspiration. So motivation is pumping yourself up to do the task you don't want to do which requires constant energy in order to do so. Now if you really get clear what things you really enjoy doing, what things are truly important to you and link that task to those things … you would naturally feel more inspired to do that task and being motivated would just follow naturally from it. So I find that a much more long-lasting effect."

Welcome to Reframe & Reset Your Career: A More Strategic Approach to Career Development
I am a complete novice to the podcast game and just did not think that I had the talent to host one. However, during lockdown last year, a good friend of mine, Lindsey Stewart, celebrated his 20 year anniversary at one of the big accounting firms and he kindly asked me to interview him for a podcast to mark the milestone. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive but we had such a great time recording the interview and received some positive feedback and this was the initial spark to start me thinking about hosting a podcast.
I am not a professional career coach, my background is in Finance and I have worked for over 15 years in front office and advisory roles in Investment Banking, the “big 4” accounting firms and Investment Management. However, probably similar to many of you, my career path has not been linear or smooth, there have been a number of peaks and troughs. Even though, I have worked hard and achieved some good qualifications, I have been through periods where I have struggled to find the right job and sometimes have felt stuck and dissatisfied.
This brought up two thoughts “is there a smarter more strategic way to approach career development as sometimes working harder is simply not enough?” and “is there a way of creating a systematic approach to the whole process?”
This started me on my journey to understanding and developing skills and strategies to assist the job search process but also helping career progression once we’re employed. One of the practical ways I did this was by volunteering for the last two years for the CFA UK Soft Skills Working Group and have helped organise a number of events and webinars on a range of topics from public speaking, changing habits to improving productivity.
I have also become fascinated by neuroscience and psychology, and was introduced to concepts such as mindset, neuroplasticity and and habit creation through wonderful seminars by Lucy Whitehall, a positive psychologist and Dr Gabija Toleikyte, a neuroscientist. I was intrigued by the notion that our brains are similar to those of our ancestors on the plains of Africa thousands of years ago. However, the life and death threats that our ancestors faced are very different from those that we face today.
It made me think that if we are able to gain a better understanding of our brains, it may help us to understand why we do the things that we do and provide insights as to how we might change.
In the podcast, I talk about the highlights of the first two episodes. Episode 1 is with Dr Gabija Toleikyte, is a neuroscientist, lecturer, and performance and wellbeing coach, and the author of “Why the F*ck can’t I change”. Episode 2 is with Dr Christian Busch, who directs the CGA Global Economy Program at New York University (NYU) and is the author of “The Serendipity Mindset The Art & Science of Creating Good Luck”.
Rather than simply talking you through my life and career, I talk about the following events and themes which have had a significant impact on my life and career:
Playing Cricket – I played for Middlesex, which is one of England’s professional teams and subsequently Essex from the under 11 to the under 19 sides and was lucky enough to play a couple of Essex Second Team matches. I was actually paid for one of the matches, so technically, I was a professional cricketer albeit with a very short career at the lowest level possible!
I talk about important life lessons which cricket taught me and I was able to apply to my professional career such as motivation, being resilient, learning to feal with failure, confidence, teamwork and gratitude.
Standing out from the crowd – I started my career as an Auditor at EY in London with over a 150 graduate trainees from the top universities in the UK, who were all ambitious and determined to succeed. It made me think how I would be able to distinguish myself from my peers. I discuss the ways in which I tried to do this and how learning new skills, such as speaking Japanese, and technical knowledge helped me.
Building relationships - much of my career progression has been based on being authentic and trying to build relationships based on having common interests rather than being transactional. I talk about Robert Cialdini, the renowned author of “Influence” and finding “commonalities”, how keeping in touch with a former colleague helped me find a job in banking and when building my network, the importance of a genuine connection, thinking long term and how both parties might benefit.
Luck – luck has played a huge role in my life. I was fortunate that my parents are both doctors who believed in education and was lucky to be educated at a great school and subsequently went to the London School of Economics. I talk about how it’s impossible to control luck but we are able to control how we react to bad luck and try not to dwell on it, thinking of it as a numbers game and the bad luck that I had when interviewing for jobs after university and how it turned around when I interviewed at EY.
