Dorinda W - Drinking for Two - Meeting 247
Having grown up in an alcoholic home, Dorinda thought she knew all there was to know about alcoholism but that was a trap set up by her ego and illness, and, as it turns out, she knew nothing. She progressed from a fun loving moderate drinker to a miserable daily solo drinker with no hope left to lose and no reason left to live, or so she thought. How dark it is before the dawn. Little did Dorinda know that there was purpose behind the pain and was being surrendered so her life could sky rocket. She shares about drinking for two through pregnancy was finally the low that brought her into the rooms of recovery and into a new life.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Bill S - Thou Shalt Not Fear! - Meeting 246
Bill S struggled with this process for 41 years; unfortunately he didn’t understand the first step, nor the connection. He finally became convinced that he couldn’t have a relationship with God without God. When he invited God in unreservedly, God came like a tidal wave. Then and only then could Bill see how fear ruled his life. Thou Shalt Not Fear!!! Bill's energy and self-described resurrection after 41 years in the rooms of AA is powerful. Nik B and Carrington S - Stepping Into Action - Meeting 244
Nik B. Is a recovering Sexaholic, Co-dependent, compulsive binge eater and a grateful member of the SAL fellowship. With the Grace of God, a change of heart and rigorous honesty Nik has 2.5 years of sobriety from sexual addiction. His first spiritual awakening was when he became aware of his own ignorance after living a life of self-will run riot. Nik now strives to live a life of quality… with feeling his emotions, making decisions based on integrity, and continuing to practice his conscious contact with God. Keeping idle isn’t an option; constantly taking action is the pathway to his peace. Carrington S. is a proud/grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Her sobriety date is 11/18/2013. Carrington lives her life by the great words of Britney Spears “you better work”. Leaning into the unknown and trusting in the care of her higher power has been the key component of Carrington’s recovery,“Hope is praying for rain, faith is bringing an umbrella”. Carrington knows that taking action has been the key ingredient to sustainable transformation and that “faith without works is dead”. They speak to us today on Stepping Into Action.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Yitzy R - Being a New Parent in Recovery - Meeting 242
Yitzy has been in recovery for a number of years. His primary program is SA, although he appreciates all the S fellowships and utilizes what he can from each of them. Yitzy also has worked the program for codependency out of the big book, which essentially allowed him to become more emotionally sober and eventually start dating. More recently, he started working ACA (adult children of alcoholics), which helped him put a voice to trauma that he wasn't aware of. It's a continuing journey, and Yitzy has already had a spiritual awakening as the result of getting started with facing his childhood. By God's grace, Yitzy got married to his wife, who is also in recovery. We now they have a baby girl. That has taken both of them on a deeper journey into recovery, healing from trauma, self judgment, fear, and responsibilities. He will speak to us on what it's like to be a new parent in recovery.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Ora F - Awareness Through Addiction in Chronic Pain - Afro-Euro - Meeting 241
Here is a little about our guest speaker today, Ora F, in her own words: Having attended alanon as a teenager with a family member, I became familiar with the presence of a higher power in the rooms early on. My search for meaning is now underscored with the big book as I practice seeking on a daily basis. Constance S - Remaining Sober in a World that Celebrates Alcohol
Raised in the 1960’s and 70’s in Manhattan by parents who worshipped at the altar of the never ending party, Constance S’s alcoholism was a result of both nature and nurture. Having her first black out at 14 and having the Irish side of her family riddled with alcoholism, she knew her drinking days had an expiration date. And so Constance drank and snorted blow with a vengeance until she had reached jer limit of shame, bad decisions, holes in her memory and the detritus that we who are alcoholics have swirling around us. And so now, with 38 years of hard fought and hard won recovery under her belt, cobbled together one day at a time, she wouldn’t change any of it as she considers herself one of the most blessed humans on the planet, a truly grateful alcoholic. In this meeting she shares how she stays sober in a world that celebrates alcohol.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. A little about Cheryl B in her own words: I lived years in recovery as a dry drunk, thinking sobriety was my goal and battled with my thinking. Ashley S - Drop the Rocks! - Meeting 229
Ashley S from North Carolina is grateful to be a recovered sex addict and codependent. She has a deep love for the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous as it is the primary text that enabled her to enter upon a new relationship with her Creator and have a profound spiritual awakening to overcome her sex addiction back in 2021. However, Ashley found herself hopeless once more as she was stuck in a toxic relationship in sobriety. By the grace of the God, she entered into the rooms of Al-Anon back in March 2023 and found a sponsor to take her back through the Big Book to heal from her codependency. Ashley’s talk today is based on Steps 6 & 7 and another spiritual text which had a profound impact on her recovery journey – Drop the Rock. Today, she is passionate about carrying the message to the addict who still suffers as she found it was the solution to help her “drop her rocks.” Ashley is grateful to be back on Reco12 one year later after reworking the 12 steps to share her new story!Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Ralph D - Resentment and Obsession of the Mind is a Dangerous Place - Meeting 227
Here is a little about Ralph D. From being raped by his brother at the age of 15 and groomed by four of his friends from that age until I was almost 18 lead him to many years of resentment, drinking very hard, using drugs and planning on killing the five of them or anyone that looked like them. The planning went on for many years in his head because he was trying to figure out a way of getting away with it without having to go to prison and without having to kill himself. In 2006 a friend of his told him (while they were drinking Jack Daniels and snorting cocaine) that he could find happiness in life if he went to AA and worked the steps and he believed hi=s friend. Ralph worked the steps right away after getting a sponsor and learned about forgiveness through working the fourth fifth sixth and seventh step. Through doing that he has never had that resentment again and his life has been much better. He currently has almost 3 years of S-Anon sobriety and part of the message he wants to give is to don't give up and to keep coming back. He speaks to us today on resentment and obsession of the mind being a dangerous place to be.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Dr. Judi Hollis - Transferring Addictions and Obsessions - Meeting 222
Dr. Judi Hollis has been an addiction pioneer since 1969 when under Mayor Lindsay’s Addiction Services Agency, she helped develop the first therapeutic communities in New York City. Using her countless books, workbooks, recorded lectures, and pamphlets she has been a tireless campaigner on national and local TV and radio broadcasts training professionals and aiding families throughout the world. A chair is being named in her honor at the Keck School of Medicine offering scholarships and a yearly symposium to study family therapy and a twelve step approach to treating all addictions. Although a gifted and artful professional, she emphasizes that her most vital strength comes from her continuing membership in three 12-step fellowships. Her talk today focuses on the issue of “cross addiction,” or “transferring obsessions,” and multiple use disorders. If we’ve surrendered to needing help with one part of our self-destructive lifestyles, why is it so difficult to ask for further help if needed? We’ll explore some of the resistances to further surrender and “contempt prior to investigation.” We’ll look at why the final addiction is always the most difficult. What essential ingredient of recovery are we avoiding? Can we see the need for more help not as a sentence, but as an opportunity? Beth E - We Must Be Rid of Selfishness - Meeting 219
“I should, they should, the world should”! is how Beth started her email to me. She says she can live life ‘should-ing’ all over the place where she starts objecting to reality - and reality only wins 100% of the time. Blaming others for the way she feels, playing the victim, complaining, diving into self-pity or using anger to manipulate people to act right can easily be her emotional (im)maturity level. Attending AA, having a sponsor, taking the 12 Steps and continuing to seek and improve conscious contact with God helps her grow up & stay out of selfishness, by taking responsibility for herself with God’s help.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. She shares her walk through poetry and music in her recovery process. Chris's topic is "The Gift that Keeps on Giving". Here is a little bit about Chris D: Chris D comes from London, UK. He found the rooms of recovery via AlAnon, but found the program of recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous & Cocaine Anonymous, and he has been sober since 23/12/2005. Having sworn he was finished with online meetings in late 2022, it turned out God had other plans for him! Ensley G and Evarleigh - Gratitude Connect & Code - Behind The Door - 211
Gratitude [gra - ti - tude] noun. The positive state of being grateful; an overwhelming, feeling of appreciation and thankfulness and the desire to return kindness to others. Ensley G. connects with Reco12’s Guest Host Evarleigh S. on episode 211 on the subject of Gratitude. There’s an in-depth open, honest, willing dialogue exploring gratitude - of course, they couldn’t take themselves too seriously. After all, we are not a glum lot. Ensley shares his experience strength and hope bringing us back to beginning when he’s a young child, how his life progressed, and the depths of the madness. After spending much time in and out of prison for approximately eight years, he was offered a solution, fast-forward six years Ensley is now five years Sober. His faith has returned and grown exponentially.Ensley shares how addiction is not discriminatory it can affect anyone! It does not matter a person’s, age, gender, race, economic standings etc. - No One is immune to it. He shares the experience strength and hope how the insanity of our thoughts can warp a situation, even coming from a loving kind place. Then proceeds explain the details of how he came to find the rooms of recovery; by the deflation of ego and finding humility through gratitude.Ensley threads gratitude throughout his day and finishing every evening prior to a nights rest with his gratitude list as a part of his nightly routine. Ensley places the importance of putting his recovery first and then working his life around recovery, to ensure that he stays within the triangle of unity, service, and recovery. After many years of living in the madness, as well as behind prison doors - He’s grateful to pass along the message to others, by paying it forward, for a new life that has blossomed beyond his wildest dreams.Grace & GratitudeOutro music is "Truth and Reconciliation" written and performed by James Carrington and used with full permission of James Carrington. Matt D - Gratefully Married to a Sexaholic - 202
In the Thanksgiving replay of this POWERFUL meeting, Matt D shares on how he eventually became grateful that he is married to a sexaholic woman. Here is a little about Matt D: Matt's wife's sexaholism brought him to the S-Anon fellowship in December 2021 as a homicidal, suicidal lost cause. After a slow start, he learned through the principles of the 12 steps and the tools of S-Anon to love God, his wife, his children, and his fellows, and to takesolution-based action to break the patterns of co-dependency in his life. The lessons he's learned in S-Anon have also helped him to tackle his drug and alcohol addictions. He is now an S-Anon success story, living his best life as one who is happy, joyous, and free.Reco12 is an organization with the mission of learning and sharing the similarities of addiction of all kinds and gaining and sharing tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path.
