In this episode, we interview Alan Smith of Alan Smith Pools. Alan’s Journey started in 1974 when he became a mixer man for De Mar Baron and after a short time, Alan was a foreman leading pool plastering crews at the age of 19. Alan and his wife Teresa started Alan Smith Pools in 1981 and have grown it to over 120 employees which have completed over 30,000 jobs. In 1989 after seeing a need for the pool plastering industry to adopt standards, he became one for the founding members of the National Plasterers Council. (NPC) He was also an integral part of getting the National Pool Industry Research Center funded and built.  Alan has never been afraid of hard work and has always put honesty and integrity first in his business. Episode 50, what a milestone for the Pool Chasers community! In this episode we interview our good friend and the owner of Precision Aquatics, Dustin Anderson. His company focusses primarily on the commercial pool maintenance sector of the industry. Dustin has a real passion for the industry and wants it to be taken to another level. He is also adamant that people take the time to get the proper licensing, pay the proper taxes and workman’s comp, and give their employees what they deserve to provide for their families. We discuss some of the differences of commercial and residential pool maintenance. Dustin talks about some of the biggest advantages and struggles of running a legitimate business and what can be done to remedy those struggles. We also touch base on how important company reps are to your business and why it’s crucial to be signed up for their incentive programs. We actually met Dustin at the Zodiac Symposium after a social media class we were attending. He approached us to discuss our opinion on Yelp and had some pretty strong opinions on it himself. In this episode we interview David Penton. David is the CEO of Fluid Dynamics Pool and Spa in Fullerton, California. Fluid Dynamics is a certified SWD Master within the Society of Watershape Designers which requires the completion of 150 hours of education within Genesis University. We have always admired David’s work and were very excited to finally sit down with him after a year of planning. David started out in the pool maintenance world working for a company to learn the trade. He transitioned into running his own service business which he ran for many years. He got  into building with 2 rather large projects and fell in love with the process. David has since completed the Genesis program to become an SWD Master. In this episode we interview Alissa Magrum of Colin's Hope. Colin's Hope is a nonprofit organization that was started in honor of Colin Holst who drowned in a lifeguarded pool at the age of 4. We were very honored that Colin's family and Alissa would allow us to discuss Colin's story. They want to get the message out there that drowning is preventable and we hope that message is brought to light in this episode. Water safety and drowning prevention is the most important topic we have discussed to date. We have become very passionate about doing what we can to bring awareness to the pool professional community. In this episode we interview our friend and one of our mentors Brett Gereau of Advanced Pool Specialists. Advanced Pool Specialists is what Brett does now, but he has had quite the journey through the pool industry. He has been in the industry his entire adult life and is very passionate about it. One of the things Brett said that we admired is that he wants to leave the industry better then he found it. What a great way to look at the industry and life in general. We left the interview inspired as we normally do after speaking with Brett and we think you guys will as well. Brett had his own service business in California for several years. In this episode we interview our favorite photographer Jimi Smith. Jimi has an amazing and unique story that he shares with us. From growing up in Georgia, to living on the island of St. Thomas, and many adventures such as working as a diver to even treasure hunting. His nomad lifestyle can be summed up by his Instagram bio which states God, Family, Photography, and Pools. He has shot photos for many of the top builders in the world and his photos have been featured in many articles and magazines. We are honored to have our last episode of the year be with Ledge Lounger founder and president Christopher Anderson. Ledge Lounger is an in-pool and outdoor furniture company that was founded in 2011. In this episode we will discuss Chris being raised in Texas and growing up around the swimming pool industry with his father. Chris would graduate from LSU with a degree in Construction Management. After working and gaining experience with the Dallas Morning News and then working for a Nebraska based tech company as their Director of Business Development. He then made his way back to Houston to work and help with his fathers growing pool company Custom Design Pools. One day Chris was tasked with a project that would forever change his life. A customer that they were building a pool for needed a particular type of pool furniture that could handle the weather, no matter the price.
