246 // You're Becoming Hysterical: Ten Years of Isolation Part Three

One of the most iconic new elements introduced by Alien: Isolation ten years ago—at least judging by how often it's been referenced in the expanded universe and fan art—is the Working Joe. Unlike their Hyperdyne competitors, Seegson Synthetics' androids are ... rudimentary, to put it mildly. Not only are they utilitarian and cheap, they are outright dangerous. Hilarious as they are terrifying, Working Joes are a major element of any Isolation playthrough. On today's episode, Jaime, Patrick, and Christian are joined by our friend Adam Zeller of Alien vs. Predator Galaxy and first-time guest Matt Savage (Concept Designer for a little film you might've heard of called Alien: Romulus).  Make sure you follow Matt on IG at mattsav.concept, and be sure to subscribe to the AvP Galaxy Podcast if you haven't already! // Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/perfectorganismitunes // For more on this and our other projects, please visit www.perfectorganism.com. // If you’d like to join the conversation, find us on our closed Facebook group: Building Better Worlds // To support the show, please consider visiting www.perfectorganism.com/support. 242 // ALIEN DAY: Interviewing Christian Kennedy, Director of No Man's Land (2024)

There's a saying in Hollywood: if you want to get your film made, be able to pitch it in an elevator ride. The setup for No Man's Land, Christian Kennedy's mega-hit Alien fan film, is about as pitchable as it gets: "Battlefield I meets Aliens." Of course, a pitch will only get you so far. The execution is where the real magic happens. And Christian's film—which is just under 30 minutes long and has already racked up nearly 4.5 million views—is a masterclass in execution. With killer cinematography, great effects, period-accurate costuming, and some great xenos, No Man's Land has been a massive hit with Alien fans since its release just two months ago. In this Alien Day special, Jaime and Perry discuss the film with Christian and learn how he brought such an ambitious vision to life without a massive Hollywood budget. Make sure you watch the film first! 222 // The Biology of Fear (With Lali DeRosier and Alex White)

Welcome to Xeno Bio 101! When Alex White (author of two of the best-received Alien novels in history) mentioned on their previous PO appearance that they had an amazing science advisor named Lali DeRosier—a science teacher, like our very own Andie GeekGirl!—we knew we had to have her on the show. And to top it off, Alex even agreed to come back on as well! In this wonderful, educational episode, Lali and Andie take us to science class. How could these creatures grow so quickly? What does "biomechanical" even mean? What the hell is the thing called that the Queen drops eggs from (hint: it's not an ovipositor)? Join Patrick, Christian, Andie, Lali, and Alex as they discuss these ideas and SO much more! Lali has a podcast of her own called Curly Hair Mafia—a great place to start would be this episode discussing Prometheus! https://curlyhairmafia.com/2012/06/10/prometheus/ You can also find her on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/adverbia.bsky.social and on whatever Twitter is currently called @_adverbia. More on Alex (and their socials) can be found at http://www.alexrwhite.com/. Please read their books, you won't regret it.
