Tony Nesbitt
Norm Nathan’s Vault of Silliness will air the personal collection of the Norm Nathan Show for which I produced on WBZ-AM from 1989 until his sudden passing on October 29th, 1996. Norm spent 50+ years in Boston Broadcasting working at WCOP, WESX, WMEX, WHDH, WEEI, WRKO, WMRE and WBZ. Whether news, talk or music…he did it, sometimes combining them all. Many of the recordings you will hear were sent to me by a fan and friend, Joan McCool. Others are from my personal collection. They will air as recorded, with the warmth an old, analog tape recording provides. Some with good, ol’fashioned home editing of the play/pause button. And ALL with the ever-comforting voice of Uncle Norm. Thank you just so darn much for tuning in!

Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt- Ep 209

Welcome back for Episode 209 of NNVoS. I have a confession to make. I do believe last week’s episode was misdated as today’s show is almost an exact copy only 2 years later! It’s a DBG from November 23rd, 1995. Last week had the same info but was dated the 22nd. But like a Broadway show, the understudy’s and new audience keeps it fresh and that applies here. And our title is: History Repeats Itself. Here’s my standard reminder to keep LSS and to please consider supporting the show through Patreon, Buy Me a Coffee and Castos. Fred and Gladys have kept the java flowing and I thank them. To make things just so darn easy, all the links are included in the description box. Let us begin with Jack Harte and a Thanksgiving Day Traffic Report with the sponsor being the Christmas Tree Shops.   Players: Jack Producing and playing in studio for the first time: Michael Cannon Scott from Shirley Michael in Newmarket, NH And Jack from Revere   Bdays: Norm’s mom was born in Haverhill back in 19 ott 3. According to Norm, there weren't any other notable bdays so we play...The Dumb Dates Game!   In what year… Did first Jukebox made its debut at the Palais Royale Saloon? Did Enrico Caruso made his American debut at the NY Met in Rigoletto? Was the first edition of Life magazine published? What was considered the first play-by-play football broadcast occur?  And in what year did the musical Fiorello open on Broadway?   Hang on now...we have a bday. Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 208

Whilst scouring the Vault I discovered at least 20 remaining cassettes covering November. Oddly, though they are all dated from the 20th and beyond. Doesn’t matter what year. Nothing from the earlier parts of the month. I will have to check again but I think I saw one entire night covered from start to finish. I am toying with the idea of airing that in weekly installments, but it will most likely have to wait until next year. We have ourselves a DBG from November 22nd, 1993. The title of which shall be… “PUN-kin Pie.”   Players: Joan Pat Maryann Fred Mike Epstein producing and playing in studio John Kelly producing and playing in studio And Jack Harte in Traffic   Bdays: Norms’ mom’s bday! Louis Tiant Jerry Bock And Susan Anspach   Then we get three “In what year…” …was the first jukebox was installed in the Palais Royale Hotel & Saloon in San Francisco? Devised by Louis Glass, it was made of an Edison tin foil phonograph with 4 listening tubes and a coin slot for each tube. It cost 5 cents for a couple of mins of music   Did the first issue of Life Magazine hit the stands? And in what year did Enrico Caruso made his American debut at the Met in NYC in Rigoletto?  Ep 208, PUN-kin Pie, slices its way to your ears…now.   Buy Me a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/normnathan Patreon https://www.patreon.com/normnathanvos Castos Donation https://norm-nathans-vault-of-silliness.castos.com/donate?_gl=1*12szy98*_gcl_au*NDc3NDU0Mzc1LjE3MjI4Nzc4ODk

Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 207

For today’s episode only let me Velcome you to NNVoScariness! On this, the 28th anniversary on Norm’s passing, let’s not be sad but enjoy this frightfully good Halloween themed broadcast. We have a NNS from October 28th and 29th, 1995 the title of which shall be: Found Treasures! It all begins with a Show Open and then Norm talks about the upcoming guests. The second guest, Laurie Jacobson, author of Hollywood Haunted: A Ghostly Tour of Filmland was not on this tape. However, we get one of my favorite annual October guests, Robert Ellis “Bob” Cahill whose latest book was New England Pirates and Lost Treasures. It’s his 14th or 17th 0r 20th book about offbeat, weird and creepy New England.  Part two, if you will, of our ghostly good time, after the excellent Cahill interview, we are treated to some terrifying tales and sinister songs from an Old-Time Radio program that was broadcast on, I believe, WJUL 1230 AM which was based in Lowell back then. It’s call letters are now used for a station in Hiawassee, GA. You will feast on one of the creepiest songs I’d never heard…The Hearse Song. Then we get 2 stories. I’m not sure of the titles but I’m going with: I Am Shadow and Me Tie Dodie Walker. Next is another sing-a-long: The King Kong Stomp And we close it out with two more stories: Monsters on the Prairie and The Haunting Hour with what I believe the titlewas If the Shoe Fits. Insert asterisk because we have an inadvertent cliffhanger as the tape ran out. A note written on the cassette says there may be another tape with the conclusion but, in keeping with the season, it remains a mystery! Ep 207, Found Treasures, digs its way to your ears in 3,2 & 1. Right at the top here I’d like to say, “Shalom, Ma Neesh-ma” Israel? The worldwide phenomena (I wish. Soon? Maybe?) known as NNVoS is now broadcasting in Tel Aviv! If you’re enjoying this as it puts a much-needed smile onto the world’s face, please consider supporting the show through Buy Me a Coffee, Patreon and Castos. Convenient links to all are below. Oh, and one more thing…the very first episode, which will celebrate it’s 4th anniversary next Tuesday, just achieved more than 1000 views. I’m just so darn thankful! Today brings us a DBG from the way back machine, October 26th, 1991. I may have stated this before but boy, do I wish I had more of these shows from back then. Great records of the madness that was the show. We shall call this one: Overstaying Your Welcome (and you be the judge as to whom I could be referring to)! We begin with two, count’em, two show opens! Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 205

The Halloween Theme continues before we dive into eve more fun and hilarity with this NNS from October 15th and 16th or maybe just the 15th or maybe just the 16th , 1993. Let’s call this one: Hot Swing and Other Things A quick reminder to please consider supporting the show by checking out the links below. Patreon, Castos and Buy Me a Coffee. Thanks to Fred again and, yes…my mom, Gladys, for continuing the caffeine drip. And, ya know what? Even more importantly is to continue to share this show with as many people you can. I’m not saying that because it would help revenue. It’s really because we need the silliness to help keep us afloat in this drowning world. This begins with a Jack Harte traffic report and then on to some guests: Dave Bertolino from SpookyWorld and one of the performers, Linnea Quigley. She’s a Scream Queen from horror classics such as Return of the Living Dead, Nightmare Sisters, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. Next: Craig Ball, whose White Heat Swing Orchestra will be backing up Joel Grey at the Roxy. This is a great conversation! Callers: Paul in the car Jean from Weymouth Norma Jack in Milton Mary from Maine Greenie from Amsterdam, NY In one of his funniest appearances: Robert from Everett Dan in Boston A different Robert talking about ham radio Ed in Boston or maybe not And Betty Commercials: Carolina Brown Rice Pilgrim Healthcare Silver City Ford Hyundai Coachman Dodge Toyota X 2! Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 204

Two super entertaining hours from the weekend of October 7th & 8th, 1995 comprises today’s withdrawal from The Vault of Silliness. The Title: Tiny, Sandy and Normy Eddie LeClair and Hope Schauer were producing. Now before I get to the details, I want to mention here at the top of the show a few ways you may support the show. Patreon, my distributor, Castos and Buy Me A Coffee. The wonderful Fred from Medford, whom you’ve heard many times on these shows, was very generous with the java and kept me caffeinated this week. Thank you, Fred!  It was a great month, listener and subscriber wise, and it would be just so darn nice to keep that going by liking, subscribing and sharing from whichever platform you obtain your weekly dose of the Silly. In the next couple of weeks, I hope to have some additional ways to contribute, including…merch?!  Ok, as I mentioned, the title of this is Tiny, Sandy and Normy. It all begins with Jack Harte reading a commercial for the Family Channel and Norm with a sly line.  Then on to the guests: From SpookyWorld, America’s Horror Theme Park we have David Naughton, one of the actors from An American Werewolf in London and Kane Hodder, Jason from, at the time, the last three Friday the 13th films and then…an absolutely fascinating interview with the one and only, Tiny Tim! Not only does he impress with his incredible musical knowledge…he sings! And so does Norm! Calls taken throughout were from: Peggy Don Nancy Generosa! Helene Fred Kay And two callers which remain unidentified. We now mosey our way to October 8th with our guest: Sandra L. Beckwith author of “Why Can’t a Man Be More like a Woman?” as well as creator of the “Do Little Report” newsletter. Now it’s not what you think but it just could be an early indicator of where we would end up. She and Norm have a whole lotta fun. We close with some callers and Norm talking about a Court TV reporter whom Norm had worked with and could not stand!  Ep 204, Tiny, Sandy and Normy, transforms its way to your ears, now. Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 197

Let’s get to some house cleaning first for my YT subscibers. There’s an issue with Ep 196 as it has posted to all but the Tube. The powers that be are working on it and hopefully that will be resolved soon if not by the time this episode posts. That means you could have TWO to enjoy this week! Now on to today’s offering. There’s so much packed throughout. Because of that and the fact it’s just so darn much fun instead of a time warp I’m going with Warped Time. What am I talking about exactly? How about a NNS from August 20th & 21st, 1994. Norm regales us with stories and experiences, and we take a bunch of calls beginning with Two callers on at once (They possibly could’ve been guests). Mary Fran Fred from NJ Ursula Norm and a caller dancing to some tunes. Charles from PA Traffic with Rob Floyd and a UFO sighting! Breaking up the calls will be Norm scatting to his Show Open and losing it. Always so funny when he laughs hard. We hear from Lord Henry Kathy asking about Greg the Squirrel Guy A caller telling with a sweet story Another caller talking about the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” Rose from Canada Ruth from South Bend, Indiana Ron Curry talking about how he came up with the idea for the game Initial Response! It includes a very interesting interview with a guest named Beau Bauman who assembled a book of advice and quotations from all sorts of people, famous and not, titled: “The Most Important Thing I’ve Learned in Life.” Then Dave talks about the WBZ Farm Stand and just wait until you hear the shear amount of food that was being donated.  And we close with a call from WBZ’s auto guru, John Lawlor.   Put the top down and turn it up… Ep 193, Road Trip Radio, drives its way to your ears…now.   Patreon https://www.patreon.com/normnathanvos

Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness - Ep 189

Well, hello fellow Vaulters of Silliness! Today brings us a mix of NNS from early 1994. Maybe march and then we jump to June-ish of ’94. And because we get to hear 3 calls from Ruth Clennott aka “Dave Maynard’s Ruth” this episode shall be simply titled: Ruth Radio   A nice Show Open kicks everything off. Oh, I will add that the tapes edits were provided by the person whom recorded it. Carol Metivier of Wicker Sportswear in Wolfeboro, NH is our guest. The company makes hi-tech thermal underwear out of recycled plastic bottles. The only problem is they make that annoying crinkle sound when you sit down. Next Guest: Carl Thieterman of Selectra Electric Cars in Wilmington. All I’ll say is we’ve come a long way, BUT wait for the last comment from him and we can all have a good laugh together.  We are treated to many callers throughout this episode. The aforementioned Ruth Clennott A mystery caller Judy The one and only Generosa! A caller from NJ Ruth is back Linda Chase on the line! A caller unknown A very brief call from Sue Arlene Third time’s a charm with…Ruth! We hear from our good friend Raj from MIT Mixed in here is a different show with a host named John. Unsure if it’s from WBZ. Well, he’s talking with Sharon who was doing a reenactment play in Lowell about a woman travelling down from Quebec on a seed boat. No, I’m not kidding. The jam-packed Ep 189, Ruth Radio, fiddles its way to your ears…now.   Patreon https://www.patreon.com/normnathanvos
