Rabbi Shalom Arush is the Head of “Chut Shel Chessed” Institutions - Chut Shel Chessed’s incredible success is largely due to its leader – Rabbi Shalom Arush, and his unique ability to reach out and touch the hearts of Jews and non-Jews throughout the world. This tragedy was the catalyst for a complete metamorphosis in the Rabbi’s outlook on the world, and eventually led to him discovering the truth of Torah and mitzvot. Rabbi Arush studied in several yeshivot until he finally found the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev. Rabbi Arush learned with Breslev giants like Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Bender zt”l and Rabbi Shmuel Shapiro zt”l . Eventually, they urged the Rabbi to move to Jerusalem to begin bringing his fellow Jews closer to G-d. Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz is the director of Semikhah at RIETS as well as the Mara D'atra of Beis Haknesses of North Woodmere. From 1938-1939, thousands of Central European Jews streamed into the Chinese city of Shanghai after the Nazi “Anschluss,” or annexation of Austria by Germany in March 1938. By 1941 Polish Jewish refugees started to join them, traveling via Lithuania, Siberia, and finally Japan. By 1943, over 16,500 Jewish refugees were living in Shanghai. Shmuel Beller was born in Oświęcim, Poland in 1927, not far from what would become the Auschwitz concentration camps. He was sent into several forced labor camps, and in 1944, he was moved to one of the Auschwitz camps. Samuel was then on the Death March and eventually liberated by American soldiers. Bubby Shirley was born in 1929 in New Jersey and has seen the United States change in so many ways. In her early years, she helped grow Miami Beach's frum community with her late husband Rabbi Alexander Gross a'h. In her more recent years, she was married to Rabbi Raphael Pelcovitz, Rav of the White Shul in Far Rockaway. She has had many experiences with people like the Ponevezher Rav, R' Shlomo Carlebach and Frank Sinatra (lehavdil). She feels like the luckiest person in the world, even though she has gone through so much. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was born in the year 1895 in Uzda, near Minsk. In 1921 he became rabbi of Luban, near Minsk, where he remained until he came to the United States in 1937. In America he became the Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim, a yeshiva in NY. Rabbi Feinstein was a dedicated and selfless leader for the Jewish people to whom anyone could approach at any time with any problem. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was one of the last of the great leaders and sages from Europe and was a representative of the greatness the Jewish people had before the destruction of the Jewish communities during World War II. We were greatly privileged to have such a giant here in America. When he passed away in 1986 the Jewish people lost a great and caring leader and one of our last connections to the greatness of European Jewry.
