Jake’s debut collection of queer magic realist short stories, Tea Leaves (Bywater Books 2023), was heralded as “funny, queer, and full of life” (M.M. Carrigan, author of forthcoming JUNK) and “fabulous, in every sense… quick and sharp, full of charms that whisk us into the darkest forests of the human experience” (Baynard Woods, author of Inheritance: an Autobiography of Whiteness). Budenz has fiction and poetry in print journals including Assaracus and Slipstream, zeitgeisty online journals including Taco Bell Quarterly and Wussy Mag, and anthologies by Mason Jar Press, Unbound Edition, and more. After teaching college writing for 6 years, Jake currently serves as the Assistant Director of Fellowships Advising and Success Coaching at Goucher College.
