S4 | Ep. 8: Hi Barbie! Ivana Primorac reveals how Margot Robbie became our fav Barbie this year, and the HMU secrets of all our other fav Barbies!

Are you watching Barbie right now?  Thinking about it?  Whether you have seen it once, twice, or 5 times like my son... You have noticed a couple of things- Barbie's hair at the dance party and the flawless highlighting of all the characters.  After a chase of all chases, Ivana Primorac finally shared her secrets with me.  Yes, I realize her secrets are not-so-secret as they have been shared in various interviews, but this is special because it's our interview. I was humbled to speak to Ivana- I've been reaching out to her since the early months of COVID because I wanted to learn about her work on FX's PISTOL, but she was always tied up on a project as she is insanely in demand.  I was lucky to grab her between interviews during a press week while she was in Croatia for a quickie.  I'm excited to share with you all the techniques she shared with me AND of course- the innovative way she kept the bounce in Barbie's dance party hair. S4 | Ep. 3: Hair Dept. Head, Cliona Furey talks PRISCILLA, wig city!

The new film from A24, Sophia Coppola's PRISCILLA, is an undisputed feast for the eyes.  Released on this past weekend, you hopefully got yourself to the theater to see the incredible detail that was put in to the costumes, set design, hair, makeup and cinematography.  As a frequent visitor to Graceland myself and a person who has been known to study every last detail of Priscilla, Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley's aesthetic, I was truly impressed with the visuals because they honored the historical detail while also being unmistakingly Sophia's vision.  I loved having Hair Designer Cliona Furey back on the pod to talk about her unbelievable work (no doubt it has been in your feed this entire week!).  It's deservedly getting tons of Awards Buzz, and you will love hearing about how she did it, straight from Cliona herself.  Enjoy! Ignacia Soto-Aguilar will tell you in this episode about THE LASH (you know the one on Jamie Lee Curtis' face that broke the internet)! I love talking to Ignacia about her projects because while she is a makeup artist, what you may not know is that she thinks like a filmmaker. Listen as she tells me what it was like shooting Episode 6 - "Fishes", that incredible Christmas dinner scene where ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. S3 | Ep. 29: Judy Chin & Jason Collins talk about their extraordinary work on the intense new series, Dead Ringers

This week features a conversation between Oscar Award Winner Judy Chin and Emmy Award Winner Jason Collins of Autonomous FX, Inc. Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz, now on Amazon Prime, is a limited series based on the original film which starred Jeremy Irons.  Judy is the makeup department head and Jason heads up the SFX Team on the show.  These two are masters of their craft, that much is certain, but what I really enjoyed talking with them about was the extraordinary way that they approach the subject matter of the show through artistry.  We also discuss the observation that audiences are shocked by the "graphic nature" of the scenes in the birthing center of this series, yet are capable of consuming content that is violent and gory without commentingon it.  Hear how they worked together on this challenging project and please let me know what you think of Dead Ringers!Watch Dead Ringers (2023) Now On Amazonhttps://amzn.to/3oUy6v3 Watch the Original Film (1988) Herehttps://amzn.to/3oUy6v33:08 - Start3:53 - Judy Gets in on The Project5:40 - The Baby Vending Business8:40 - The Maternity Ward10:00 - The Natural Body Horror Dance12:35 - Pushing For Authenticity 14:04 - Prepping the Birthing Rig15:10 - The ECE Procedure17:30 - The Big Belly19:50 - The Crowning Scene21:05 - Creating the Twins22:50 - Simplicity Saves the Day23:52 - Differentiating the Twins25:51 - The Female Approach26:35 - Closing Get full access to Look Behind The Look's Substack from Tiffany Bartok at lookbehindthelook.substack.com/subscribe

**GUILTY PLEASURE ALERT! Only visit this episode if you are willing to admit to yourself that you devour episodes of Vanderpump Rules...It was the shot heard around the world- the announcement of the most talked about scandal in recent pop culture history. The betrayal of the beloved reality television star Ariana Madix by way of an affair between her long-time partner Tom Sandoval and her close friend Raquel Leviss. Known as #Scandoval this brought all eyes to Vanderpump Rules. As longtime fans who devour every episode, my friend and actress Katie Walder (you know Katie from shows like Gilmore Girls, Mad Men, and How I Met Your Mother) and I decided we need to do an episode with makeup artist Jared Lipscomb. Jared is a makeup artist who, among his many talents, works often with the cast of Vanderpump Rules and is a dear friend to Ariana. We talk about how tricky the balance can be between client and friend and what it was like being in the room as Ariana Madix prepared herself for the upcoming Vanderpump Reunion which will surely be the Reality TV Superbowl.Jared is also a cancer survivor. S3 | Ep. 18: Oscar and BAFTA nominee, Heike Merker, talks about her work as makeup and hair department head on the film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT.

This week's Episode is a conversation I had with Oscar and BAFTA nominee, Heike Merker about her work as makeup and hair department head on the Netflix film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT which is getting a tremendous amount of attention this awards season.  Finding herself quite literally on the Front Lines of this project, we talk about her challenges, the physical demands and how she discovered the ability to paint artistically using mud, dirt, pigments and even macha (!) to create stunning, painterly looks that convey the duality of war and the inner life of the film's protagonist.  This was a tremendously hard film to make.  Listen to Heike talk (hilariously) about getting so stuck in the mud that she literally couldn't move one inch.  And how she found inspiration on set and in the moment for the film's signature macha mask look.  Tune in!Heike’s IGhttps://www.instagram.com/h.merker/"They Shall Not Grow Old" Documentaryhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qP0Z04UrJY0:00 Welcome2:30  "They Shall Not Grow Old" dir.
