On today's show Jason Spyres joined John to discuss the major injustice he suffered as a result of selling cannabis in his teens. Jason was arrested on drug charges nearly 20 years ago. In the years since, he’s been on a path of personal success and growth. When he was 19 years old, he was arrested for selling cannabis during an undercover sting, and until recently, the state of Illinois had kept him out of society for it. Jason served 15 years of a 30-year prison sentence. Once Jason got a taste of freedom, he pushed relentlessly for his goals. While on work release he worked 2 jobs and took on a full slate of college classes to work towards his goal of becoming an engineer. Currently, Jason is enrolled at Stanford University and is actively petitioning the Governor of Illinois for a full pardon. On today's episode Lisa Hanna join John to share her remarkable story. Lisa is a US Army veteran, having served 2 tours overseas. She graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, in 1993. However, she suffered a personal tragedy months earlier when her son passed away. Drugs and alcohol became Lisa’s medication to numb the depression after her only son's death. She did get clean and left her abusive husband Scott. Then Scott was busted with methamphetamine, marked bills, and stolen guns. When pressured by prosecutors he agreed to “cooperate” in exchange for a reduced sentence. He said Lisa was his source, which she claims is not true. Lisa was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a substance containing Methamphetamine. She served more than 15 years in federal prison. While in prison, Lisa wrote a book called Prison Bitch, a humorous memoir covering her time inside federal female camps and prisons. When Lisa got out of prison she kept pushing and reached her goal to become a lawyer! She was sworn in recently is and she can legally practice law. Lisa hopes to help other women who have been targeted on trumped up conspiracy charges to avoid the nightmare she lived for over 15 years.  Learn more about your ad choices. Today on Felony Friday Judy Henderson joins John to talk about the unbelievable injustice she suffered in the criminal justice system. In 1982, Judy Henderson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 50 years for her role in a robbery-turned-murder. Her boyfriend at the time – the man who committed a robbery, fired a gun, killed someone, and shot Henderson herself in the process – went free, while Henderson did the time. In December of 2017, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens commuted Judy Henderson’s sentence to time served: 36 years and 111 days. The Governor reached this decision after he and his counsel reviewed thousands of pages of reports, court transcripts, letters, and records related to Henderson’s case. On today episode of Felony Friday polygraph expert Doug Williams joins John to share why he believe the polygraph to be a complete fraud of a technology. Doug administered polygraph examinations for the Oklahoma City Police department from 1972 - 79. In 1979 he began teaching people how to beat the polygraph. The feds didn't like this so they came after him and he was incarcerated in Federal prison for 2 years for "protesting the loudest and the longest against the polygraph."
