I truly think the Fed is doing the best they can with the tools that they do have - but as I and many others have written about before, their best might not be good enough here. Inflation being 0% in July doesn’t diminish that pain and worry that so many are experiencing. There is still a long way to go. But even marginal improvements can tip the dominoes in a better direction - which should help shape expectations to be more positive, and the compounding impact of that is a good thing. The algorithmic money faucet does not like detail, but that is what this economy *requires*. Grief and love are the same emotion, expressed differently. We are living in a world of increasing differentials, where our base case is becoming less probable, and we are having to build out new models of thinking. So it’s going to be silly and dumb because people are silly and dumb.  I don’t know. I think it’s frustrating and it’s also okay to *be* frustrated. That’s part of where action comes from. And just like the Fed, we have to take action to maintain our credibility (something I need to work on more). The bifurcation of society shows that we care at least - but how do we harness these emotions into something productive for our collective future? That’s the eternal question.

A breakdown of yesterday's Fed day in the following format:  1. Pre FOMC (~1 hour before) 2. Post FOMC (~2 hours after) 3. Post post FOMC (~24 hours later)  Can you see the difference? The Fed made the decision to accelerate their taper by $30b a month (meaning that they are going to stop providing so much support to Treasuries and Mortgage Backed Securities) as well as released their dot plot - with 3 hikes in 2022. This was a relatively hawkish call for the Fed - meaning that they see some hotness in their dual mandate of price stability (definitely here) and maximum employment (still some ways to go here, but close).
