172: Ask Denis: The Small Things Have Big Impact
A couple of episodes ago we took a look at our mid-year review, well now we’re back out on the field playing the game. How’s it going? Maybe you can only do some small things at the moment. I’m here to tell you, that’s exactly where you’re supposed to be, because small things have a big impact. How you show up makes a difference, and how you show up as a leader, what you do and say, affects the team around you. Let’s take some time to look at some small things we can do consistently that can impact our teams and organizations in a big way. On this episode:Small things have a big impact. “If you think you’re too small to have an impact try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.” Even small encouragements can go a long way. You as a leader affect the people around you with the smallest things you say or do. There are things you can do consistently that can truly impact your organization. If you’re consistent in the positive things you do, you may not see change straight away, but 30 days or a year down the line you will see change. Key Takeaways:How small things can have a big impactYou as a leader affect the people around youThere are small, consistent things you can do to affect changeThe impact of just taking a breath The small things you do in the beginning will determine the end gameTake a deep look at the small things you do Tweetable Quotes:“The small things do make a massive impact for sure. A small word like ‘thank you’ can go a long way with people… ” - Denis Gianoutsos“How you show up makes a difference… You as a leader, what you say and what you do, and how you come across to people, actually DOES have a lot of sway, impact and so forth on people.” - Denis GianoutsosReach out to Denis:Email: [email protected]: http://www.leadingchangepartners.com/ Leadership Is Changing Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LeadershipIsChanging/Leadership is Changing LinkedIn Page:https://www.linkedin.com/company/leadership-is-changing-podcast/

169: Ask Denis: Building Your Legacy Through Custodian Leadership
Have you ever met someone who draws their value from a position or title? The thing is, I know and you know that titles don’t make the leader, actions do. No one owns a single position, in truth, we are custodians of that position. As such, it is our responsibility to leave positions in better condition than we received them. In this episode, I’m going to break down what this means for us, and how custodian leadership can help build and leave your legacy. On this episode:Titles should not be what you use to draw value from. We don’t own titles, we are custodians of them. This is someone who has the responsibility of taking care or protecting something. How you nurture, protect, and excel at a role, will dictate your legacy. What are you doing today that will leave your legacy 10, 20 years ahead? How to build the legacy of the organisation: Listen in for the 3 things that will help you be the best custodian you can be. 163: Ask Denis: The Power of Words
Our words as leaders, and even as individuals, have such a massive impact on others. What you say, and how you say it, can either build people up, or tear them down. In my own life, I remember both positive and negative comments said to me even from 30 years ago! Knowing that your words carry weight, how can we as leaders give feedback well, and what should the thought process about the words we’re going to use look like? On this episode:Listen to this story, where words said to me 30 years ago still impact me today. We carry the weight of words on our shoulders, so let’s talk about how we use them to build up others. While positive words are beautiful, they need to be held up by authenticity. Let’s take a look at your internal dialogue as well, what you say, and HOW you say it. Key Takeaways:Your words have massive impact and can carry on for a lifetimeLet’s think about the kind of feedback we give and how to give itBe aware of your words, but remember it needs to be authenticThe words you use internally are just as importantYour ‘how’ is as important as your ‘what’What are you listening to? What goes in is what comes out Tweetable Quotes:“You need to be authentic with whatever you’re saying, because if you’re not authentic with words, the actions aren’t going to marry up.” - Denis Gianoutsos“Regularly check in with yourself to see what kind of words you’re using with yourself internally and externally with others as well…” - Denis Gianoutsos“We have the voice of impact; our voice, our words, and everything we share has impact… the power of words is massive.” - Denis GianoutsosReach out to Denis:Email: [email protected]: http://www.leadingchangepartners.com/ Leadership Is Changing Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LeadershipIsChanging/Leadership is Changing LinkedIn Page:https://www.linkedin.com/company/leadership-is-changing-podcast/
