Killer Queens: A Light True Crime Podcast | QCODE
We could tell you about our show, but in the words of LeVar Burton, "don't take our word for it!" Here is an actual listener's description of the show: "Think Cher Horowitz meets Dolly Parton... create a love child. Then THAT person meets Bill Kurtis.... and two random girls are the product of that.... that's Tyrella and Tori (sisters and hosts). Smart, weird, pretty, blonde, hilarious, southern, and just really okay with being themselves.... even when it is weird. It made me realize [they] became their role models without even meaning to." Give it a try if you like ANY of those people and/or a lighter take on your True Crime! For bonus episodes and premium content, find us on Patreon!

302: Justice for Zale and Saxon

On Friday, April 23, 2021, Zale Dudas and her younger brother, Saxon Nairne, were swimming in a backyard pool, unattended, with a scuba diving tank. Both kids were said to be proficient swimmers, however, at seven and nine years old, they were not proficient scuba diving experts. The scuba tank, typically filled with oxygen, was actually filled with helium. Both children passed out due to the inhalation of the helium and were found at the bottom of the pool. Four days after the incident, both children passed away. Their deaths were determined to be an accident, however, their grieving mother, Suzie Dudas, is seeking justice for her two young children. 300: Serial Killer- Sean Vincent Gillis

In February of 2004, the body of a nude woman was discovered near an agricultural research station for Louisiana State University (LSU). The crime scene was processed and it was discovered that the woman had suffered a deep slash to her neck and there were ligature marks all around her neck. Her body had been positioned in a way so that trauma to her genitals would clearly be seen by anyone who found her. Investigators found signs that she had been dragged to the scene, tire tracks nearby, and 13 empty beer cans. The body was determined to be Donna Johnston, and she was the final victim of Sean Vincent Gillis’ 10 year killing spree.  ***TRIGGER WARNING*** Murder | Murder by Slashing, Stabbing, or Strangulation | Body Mutilation | Dismemberment |Cannibalism |Sexual Assault Hang with us: Follow Us on Instagram Like Us on Facebook Join our Case Discussion Group on Facebook Get Killer Queens Merch Bonus Episodes Support Our AMAZING Sponsors: Quince: Get affordable luxury for everyone on your list with Quince! 299: Doomsday Mom Lori Vallow Murders- Part 2 of 2

In late 2019, Kay Woodcock called local police and asked them to perform a welfare check on her 7-year-old grandson, JJ Vallow. She hadn’t seen him in almost two months, and couldn’t get in touch with his mother or his older sister. As investigators began to look into where JJ was, they found that his 16-year-old sister, Tylee Ryan, was also missing. Their mother, Lori Vallow, claimed that they were safe and happy, but refused to tell anyone where they were. Detectives continued to dig into the Vallow family and found a sickening story of extreme religion, demons, zombies, and murder. They found suspicious deaths that surrounded Lori, as well as her new husband, Chad Daybell. Unfortunately, no one could find JJ or Tylee. Were they really somewhere safe or had they been victims of Lori and Chad’s bizarre cult-like religion? 297: AJ Armstrong- Parent Killer or Wrongfully Convicted?

The Houston Police Department received a 911 call in the early morning hours of July 29th, 2016, from a very calm 16-year-old. AJ Armstrong told the dispatcher that he’d heard gunshots in his parents’ room downstairs and that he was now hiding in the closet of his third floor bedroom. When officers arrived, they found AJ’s mother, Dawn, dead in her bed, from two gunshot wounds to the head. AJ’s father, Antonio, had also suffered a gunshot wound to the head, but was clinging to life. Both AJ and his 12-year-old sister were unharmed. Less than 24 hours later, AJ was charged with the capital murder of both of his parents. Was he responsible for their brutal slayings, or had a masked intruder really just gotten THAT lucky to get away with a double murder? 294: [FREE Weekly Episode] The Death of Tiffany Valiante

In the late evening and early morning hours between July 12th and July 13th, 2015, 18-year-old Tiffany Valiante’s body was recovered by police after it was struck by a train in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Her family was told that the promising young volleyball player had jumped out in front of the train, taking her own life. Tiffany was a typical teenager, who struggled sometimes at home and argued with her parents, but had also been offered five scholarships to play college volleyball and couldn’t wait to meet her college roommate. The New Jersey Transit Police quickly closed the case, ruling it a suicide, however, there were so many questions left unanswered. Tiffany’s family is left wondering still, what happened to her on those train tracks? 288: [FREE Weekly Episode] Serial Killer Jeremy Bryan Jones

On September 21st, 2004, a man was arrested in Mobile, Alabama for the murder of 43-year-old Lisa Marie Nichols. Lisa had been found shot to death in her home, which was then set on fire. 32-year-old John Paul Chapman was taken into custody, but detectives quickly found that the man was actually Jeremy Bryan Jones. Jones was a fugitive after fleeing Oklahoma when his bail was revoked. More concerningly, Jones had been arrested under his ‘Chapman’ alias three times, and was released each time. Once he was in custody, Jones confessed to over 20 murders. How many people had this man, once described by ADA John Furman as a “low-rent Ted Bundy”, actually killed? And could any of them have been prevented if Jones’ real identity had been discovered earlier? 287: Melissa Lucio: Child Murderer or Wrongful Conviction? (Part 2)

In 2008, 39-year-old Melissa Lucio became the first Hispanic woman sentenced to death in the state of Texas. She’d been tried and convicted of capital murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Mariah Alvarez. On February 17th, 2007, first responders were called to Melissa’s home to find Mariah in cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts, Mariah was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was found covered in bruises, with a cause of death ultimately determined to be from a significant head injury. Melissa had no documented history of abuse, but before investigators had even left her home that night, they’d formed their opinion of what happened, despite Melissa’s explanation. Since her sentencing, people across the world have been lobbying on Melissa’s behalf, petitioning for a stay of execution and, hopefully, a full exoneration. Was Melissa wrongly convicted and sentenced to death or was she responsible for the death of her youngest child? 280: David Koresh and the Waco Siege- Part 2

On April 19th, 1993, FBI agents began pouring tear gas into a compound known as Mount Carmel in Waco, Texas. It was the final act of a 51 day standoff that had taken place between law enforcement and a religious group known as The Branch Davidians. After a failed attempt by the ATF to serve a warrant to arrest the group’s leader, David Koresh, for stockpiling illegal weapons, the standoff began. By the end, 82 Branch Davidians were dead, including 28 children, and four ATF agents had been killed. The country was left with questions that remain unanswered to this day, the most important one being, who was responsible for the 86 deaths that happened at Mount Carmel? 276: The Groene Family Massacre (and the Survival of Shasta Groene)

On a Monday in May of 2005, deputies in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho responded to a call at the Groene residence. When they arrived, they found blood covering the walls and floors of the home. The bodies of the mother, Brenda, her boyfriend, Mark, and Brenda’s 13-year-old son, Slade, were lying on the living room floor, clearly victims of a vicious attack. A triple murder was unheard of in the small Idaho town. As they looked around the rest of the home, detectives realized that the two youngest Groenes, 8-year-old Shasta and 9-year-old Dylan were missing. There was no sign of the two anywhere on the property or in the surrounding area. Less than two months later, a waitress at a local Denny’s called 911 because she believed that Shasta was sitting in her restaurant. Police arrived to find the missing girl and her abductor, who was arrested immediately. But who was this man who’d committed a triple murder and a double kidnapping? It couldn’t have been a first time offender. Most importantly, where was Dylan Groene? Kimberly Iron, 21. Faith Lindsey, 17. Sabrina Rosette, 33. Cecelia Barber Finona, 59. Jermain “Liz” Morigeau, 23. Olivia Lone Bear, 32. Faith Hedgepath, 19. Sherryl Lynn Jacquot, 43. Monica L. Bercier Wickre, 42. All of these Indigenous women were either murdered or disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Some have been solved, most of them have not. These are just a few names out of thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women in the nation. Many aren’t reported and most aren’t even investigated properly, leaving loved ones feeling lost, filled with questions, and feeling as though they can’t trust any law enforcement. There’s a common saying in Native American communities: “When an Indigenous woman goes missing, she goes missing twice—first her body vanishes and then her story.” Why are so many Native American and Alaska Native women going missing and being murdered and WHY does it seem like people don’t care? 269: [FREE Weekly Episode] Caffey Family Murders (Erin Caffey)

On Saturday, March 1st, 2008, the Caffey family home in Emory, Texas was engulfed in flames. Terry Caffey, the father, had been shot five times and had amazingly escaped the burning home and crawled 500 yards to his neighbors’ house, where 911 was called. Firefighters found the burned remains of 38-year-old Penny Caffey, 13-year-old Matthew, and 8-year-old Tyler. Still missing was 16-year-old Erin. Terry was immediately rushed to the hospital and into surgery. Once Terry was in recovery, a Rains County Sheriff told him that his only daughter was alive and well. Unfortunately, Terry’s relief that Erin was safe was short-lived. The Sheriff also told Terry that she was in custody for being involved in the murders. He was stunned. There was no way that his daughter had anything to do with this. However, Terry, and the rest of the community, were shocked to find that the evidence against Erin was overwhelming. 264: Alex Murdaugh Trial Recaps Part 2- The Defense and Verdict

Overview of the case in case you don’t know: On the night of June 7, 2021 Alex Murdaugh called 911 to report that he had come home to find his wife and son “shot badly.” His wife Maggie and son Paul were found dead on the family’s sprawling property named “Moselle.” They were found at the property kennels which were about ⅓ mile away from the main house. Both were shot multiple times; Paul was killed with a 12g shotgun and sustained 2 gunshot wounds: to his head and shoulder. This is gruesome but true- his brain was “blown out” of the right side of his head, completely severing his brain from his skull. Maggie was shot with a .300 Blackout AR-style rifle 5 times; through the left wrist, left thigh, her upper abdomen through the lower back, and a downward-trajectory shot to the right back of Maggie’s head. Alex Murdaugh has maintained his innocence since the murders and stood trial in early 2023. This episode recaps the trial and the verdict. 262: The Vigilante Killing of Ken Rex McElroy

On the morning of July 10th, 1981, shots rang out in the small town of Skidmore, Missouri.  Outside of the D&G Tavern, the engine of a truck could be heard roaring to life, until it gave out, and eventually the engine blew.  In the truck was the body of Ken Rex McElroy, who was known in Skidmore as the “town bully.”  Incredibly, with dozens of people surrounding the truck when the shooting took place, there were no witnesses who could identify the shooter, or shooters, besides McElroy’s wife, who was in the truck beside him when he was shot. ***TRIGGER WARNING*** Murder - Rape of a Child / Child Abuse - Animal Abuse - Arson - Gun Violence - Vigilantism Hang with us: Follow Us on Instagram Like Us on Facebook Join our Case Discussion Group on Facebook Get Killer Queens Merch Bonus Episodes Support Our AMAZING Sponsors: Living Juice: Go to drinkinglivingjuice.com and use code KILLER20 at checkout for 20% off your first purchase! 257: MMIW- The Murder of Sonya Ivanoff (FREE Weekly Episode)

Just after midnight on August 11th, 2003, Alaskan native, Sonya Ivanoff parted ways with her best friend and began the short walk home to her apartment from her friend’s house. This would be the last time that 19-year-old Sonya was seen alive by her best friend. A few days later, Sonya’s nude body was found just a few miles outside of her hometown of Nome, Alaska. She’d been shot once in the back of the head. Unfortunately, investigators were unable to find any DNA or obvious evidence at the scene or on Sonya’s body. They couldn’t understand how a perpetrator could leave zero DNA evidence behind. As they progressed in the investigation, two witnesses came forward and dropped a bombshell on them about Sonya’s last moments that night. What came next made the entire community of Nome, and even Alaska, question if they were really safe. **TRIGGER WARNING: MMIW, sexual assault, murder** Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/G89VUbujX7Q Hang with us: Follow Us on Instagram Like Us on Facebook Join our Case Discussion Group on Facebook Get Killer Queens Merch Bonus Episodes Support Our AMAZING Sponsors: Babbel: Right now, get up to 55% off your subscription when you go to BABBEL.com/queens.
