State of Affairs with Bill Bratton Part Two
2020 has been a wacky year, especially when it comes to civil unrest.
So we're veering off course a little bit this weekend and chatting with Bill Bratton, one of the most respected and trusted experts on risk and security issues.
During a 46-year career in law enforcement, he instituted progressive change while leading six police departments, including seven years as Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department and two terms as the Commissioner of the NYPD.
As the Executive Chairman of Risk Advisory at Teneo, a management consulting firm, Commissioner Bratton advises clients on risk identification, prevention, and response.

The Student Loan Burden Part Two
Last week in the NYT there was an article titled, For Millions Deep in Student Loan Debt, Bankruptcy Is No Easy Fix, which basically explains how darn difficult it is to discharge student loan debt, with only a few hundred people a year even trying. It's a very good read, so I suggest you check it out.
It got us thinking that we should re-run an interview from last year with Caitlin Zaloom, professor and author of Indebted: How Families Make College Work at Any Cost.
The book does a great job of takes readers into the homes of middle-class families throughout the nation to reveal the hidden consequences of student debt and the ways that financing college has transformed family life.

The State of Retirement
Yesterday it was Charles Schwab, today it's his daughter Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, who joined us to discuss a recent retirement survey conducted by Schwab.
The online survey was conducted among 2,000 Americans aged 55 to 75 with at least $100,000 in investable assets.
Among the findings:
More than 80% of those who have retired and those soon-to-retire believe their lifestyle in retirement will be everything that they envision
Aspiring retirees expect to retire six years later (at age 66) than accomplished retirees did
19% of survey respondents say they or their spouse were financially impacted by COVID-19
52% of respondents say they’re more focused on developing a retirement plan due to COVID-19
It's a true family affair this weekend on Jill on Money!

1-on-1 with Charles Schwab
We decided to re-run an interview we did a while back with Charles Schwab, yes, that Charles Schwab, the founder of The Charles Schwab Corporation.
He joined us to talk about his personal memoir, Invested: Changing Forever the Way Americans Invest, in which he describes his passion to have Main Street participate in the growing economy as investors and owners, not only earners.
Schwab opens up about the challenges he faced while starting his fledgling company in the 1970s and recounts the company’s game-changing sale to Bank of America, and how, in the end, the merger almost doomed his organization.
A remarkable story of a company succeeding by challenging norms and conventions through decades of change, Invested also offers unique insights and lifelong principles for readers, the values that Schwab has lived and worked by that have made him one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time.

The Election and Your Money Part Two
In October 2016, I warned that in advance of the presidential election, “you should not make changes to your portfolio in an effort to outfox the tried and true investment strategy of identifying your personal goals and objectives; creating and sticking to a diversified asset allocation plan, using low cost index funds; and rebalancing two to four times a year.”
Four years later, I am sticking to that guidance, so let’s just pinky-swear that you won’t try to adjust your investments or time whatever market movement you expect, and I promise not to lecture you about the folly of trying to time the market, OK?
To help us break down how the upcoming election may impact your investments, we're joined by Nathan Sheets, Chief Economist and Head of Global Macroeconomic Research at PGIM Fixed Income.

State of Technology Part Two
When it comes to money and personal finance, I like to think I know a thing or two. But when it comes to technology and gadgets, I turn to Jeff Bakalar, Editor at Large at CNET.
It’s a good arrangement: When Jeff has a personal finance question, he knows who to call. And when I need help purchasing a new phone or want to understand what lies ahead on the tech landscape, Jeff returns the favor.
The technology world changes so fast it’s almost impossible to keep up with it. Every month it seems, there’s a hot new app, a popular gadget, a hopeful tech IPO, a disruptive innovation, it’s never ending.
