Ep. 1021 Map 26 Greece | Jumbo Shrimp Maps

Welcome to Episode 1021 The Jumbo Shrimp Maps Series. Today we are going to talk about Map 25, talking about Greece. About the Series: We have specially created this free content for all our listeners who are studying for wine exams. Since Stevie Kim discovered Rosie Baker’s hand drawn maps on Instagram, our in house editorial and graphics team has been working on this project, and now the maps are available to purchase in Beta form, while they undergo the final proofing and editing by our Expert Advisory Board. It’s a 3 layered project, because we know everyone learns differently. We now offer the complete box set of 39 maps, this series of podcasts with the maps narrated by our crack team of wine educators, and finally the Study Guide Book which will be publish later this year. Our map project is in no way a substitute for the material set out by other educational organisations, but we hope all the Wine Students out there will find our map project a new, exciting and useful tool for learning. To purchase the Beta version box set of maps, please visit mammajumboshrimp.com To find out more about Mamma Jumbo Shrimp and how to buy the Maps visit: www.mammajumboshrimp.com More about today’s narrator: "I am relatively new to wine, having stumbled into it by default. I recently returned to bartending after a stretch of years teaching then followed by having two children. Bartending in the food/wine industry offered the chance to re-enter the work world in the evenings while allowing time to be with children in the day. The opportunity to work with wine again sparked a curiosity and an itch to learn more and more about it. Although I intended bartending to be a stop-gap measure of a job until I could return to full-time classroom teaching, the realization occurred that the food and wine industry is a pursuit where complete satisfaction could be gained by pouring wine and making people incredibly happy. Thoughts of starting to build a new career in wine began to percolate. When people look back on their lives, one common regret is not having done the things we wish we had. And with a window of a handful of years until I had planned to return to the teaching profession, the decision to change course and take a leap into the wine world was joyfully made.” (Peggy Baudon) To learn more visit: linkedin.com/in/peggy-baudon-dipwset-b6aa84199 Let's keep in touch! Ep. 1014 Erika Marchesini | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Ep. 1014 Erika Marchesini | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1014 Marc Millon interviews Erika Marchesini of the Marcello Marchesini Winery 1970 in this episode of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon on the Italian Wine Podcast. More about today’s winery: All of the Marchesini Winery’s vines are autochthonous and are situated in the south-east of Lake Garda, specifically in the Bardolino Classic wine area which is the heart of the where the local Veronese wine is produced. They currently produce 900 kgs of grapes from 10 hectares of land that is divided into 4 different vineyards. The especially mild weather conditions on Lake Garda, even during the winter months, help make this area one of the best for the production of wine. Another important factor is that of the Garda hills, the hills that were formed by the residues of the glaciers that descended into the valley. The land is characterised by a mineral soil, and it is on this warm, dry land rich in sand stones and gravel that their wines were created. They use different grapes in order to make our Bardolino wine: Corvina that gives body and structure, Corvinone, an older variety of Corvina to be precise that allows you to re-live the Bardolino flavours of the past .There are also the Rondinella and Molinara grapes, which give both lightness and flavour. They also grow Chardonnay, Garganega and Merlot grapes, which they use to produce their white wine Santi, San Fermo IGP and EriGiò their sweet straw wine. To learn more visit: www.marcellomarchesini.it/en/cosa-facciamo/ More about the host Marc Millon: Marc Millon, VIA Italian Wine Ambassador 2021, has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about wine, food and travel for nearly 40 years. Ep. 1013 Scott Ades | Get US Market Ready With Italian Wine People

Ep. 1013 Scott Ades | Get US Market Ready With Italian Wine People

Welcome to Episode 1013 Steve Raye interviews Scott Ades of Dalla Terra in this installment of Get US Market Ready With Italian Wine People on the Italian Wine Podcast. About today’s guest: Scott Ades as the new president of Dalla Terra. Ades was most recently COO of The Winebow Group, where he spent more than 11 years building his reputation as one of the most respected managers in the wine business. The Dalla Terra Winery Direct® roster reads like a who’s who of some of the most esteemed family-owned wineries in Italy. Each producer has played a major role in the significant strides Italy has made over the last twenty years in improving the quality of its wines. Dalla Terra Winery Direct® is changing the nature of the wine importing and distribution business. The company’s unique business model skips the national importer level in the three-tier distribution system, allowing U.S. distributors to buy directly from the producer. Dalla Terra’s business model offers a more efficient, economical and consumer-friendly way of shipping, distributing and marketing wine, eliminating on average 20- to 25% in markups on each bottle. While Dalla Terra’s services are sought after by winemakers all over Italy because of the company’s economically competitive edge, producers are also attracted by the company’s commitment to highlighting individuality by choosing to work with only a few top producers from each wine-growing region in Italy. Founder Brian Larky considers each of the producers he works with part of a roundtable on innovation and quality, at which each producer has a voice. In 2009, Wine Enthusiast nominated Dalla Terra for Importer of the Year for its annual Wine Star Awards. On January 24, 2011, Larky was inducted into the Italian Trade Commission’s Wines of Italy Hall of Fame at the opening reception for Vino 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, NY. This marks the highest level of distinction presented by the Italian government to wine industry leaders. To learn more visit: www.dallaterra.com or call 707.259.5405. More about the host Steve Raye: Steve Raye of Bevology Inc originally joined our weekly lineup with narrations from his book “How to get US Market Ready” - but everyone just loved him so much, we brought him back with this series of interviews that informs and inspires! Each week he speaks to industry professionals; guests who have gained valuable experience in the Italian wine sector and have insightful tips and stories that can help anyone who wants to learn about getting US Market Ready! Ep. 1012 Krister Bengtsson | Uncorked

Welcome to episode 1012 in which host Polly Hammond interviews Krister Bengtsson, this week on Uncorked. In this episode, we are joined by Krister Bengtsson, Founder and Publisher of Star Wine List. With a strategy focused on long-term, sustainable growth, Krister and his team eschewed the “move fast and break things” start-up approach in favor of consistent value, measured launches, and relationship building. We’re here to talk about this direction carried them through a pandemic (despite being all about wine lists!), how Krister’s background in journalism paved the way, and how Star Wine List has carved a unique niche in the world of wine writing. More about today’s guest: Krister Bengtsson is a Swedish journalist and entrepreneur with a background in both the media and wine industries. In 2017, he founded Star Wine List as he thought there were so many restaurant guides in the world, but not enough wine guides. Krister is also an investor in the British wine bar and magazine Noble Rot. He was named 2018 Wine Person of the Year by Swedish wine magazine Allt om Vin, and Commandeur de Bordeaux, 2018. In 2012, he earned his Wine MBA from Kedge Management School, Bordeaux; and he is a member of the Swedish wine writers association. To learn more visit: starwinelist.com/ www.instagram.com/starwinelist/ www.facebook.com/starwinelist/ starwinelist.com/newsletter More about the host: Polly is Founder and CEO of 5forests. She splits her time between Barcelona, Auckland, and Napa, consulting, writing, and speaking about the trends that impact today’s wine businesses. She’s an advisor to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, host of Uncorked with the Italian Wine Podcast, cohost of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph, and, occasionally, a knitter. Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in International Relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with behavioral Economics, and her wine work is based on insights into all the crazy and irrational reasons consumers engage with brands. With over 20 years’ experience in growing successful companies, Polly knows first-hand the challenges faced by independent businesses. Ep. 1007 5 Must Know Facts For Success In Australian Post Pandemic | wine2wine Business Forum 2021

Ep. 1007 5 Must Know Facts For Success In Australian Post Pandemic | wine2wine Business Forum 2021

Welcome to Episode 1007; 5 must-know facts for success in the Australian post pandemic market Welcome to Wine2Wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide. Australia is only just emerging from the Covid bubble with international borders expected to re-open December 2021. Due to extended lock downs the Australian beverage industry has undergone a massive transformation for both on and off premise sales. Local producers have lost important export markets and have been looking inward for sales which has impacted imports. It’s not all doom and gloom though as consumers have increased wine consumption and are looking for new tastes and flavours. Italy is an exciting prospect for both consumers and trade. With a significant Italian expat demographic, major plantings of Italian varieties, an educated market and the Australian love of food and the Mediterranean lifestyle, Italian wines are well poised to gain more traction as the economy opens and rebuilds. More about today’s speaker: Gill Gordon-Smith IWE is a VIA expert, Artisan Producer, Retailer, Writer, Judge and Educator based in Australia’s McLaren Vale Region. Ep. 1005 Alice Achayo | Voices With Cynthia Chaplin

Ep. 1005 Alice Achayo | Voices With Cynthia Chaplin

Welcome to Episode 1005 Cynthia Chaplin interviews Alice Achayo, in this installment of Voices, on the Italian Wine Podcast. More about today’s guest: Alice Achayo is the founder of the Wine Linguist. A business she started recently that focuses on expanding wine language through global cuisines. Having worked in different parts of the wine industry over the last last 6 years, she wanted to change what she saw was lacking: representation of the global majority’s language, culture, and cuisine. For far too long the wine language has been centered around Eurocentric and Western society. This is one of the many reasons why wine has always been intimidating, exclusive, and uninviting. While there are various ways to diversify the industry, a core focus of the Wine Linguist will be on global cuisine and wine pairing. For me the beauty of the wine language is that it relies on our individual sensory memories. Foods we’ve grown up eating and the scents that surrounded us, play a massive role in our wine vocabularies. Exposing our palate to other cultures’ cuisines will allow for us to learn new ways to talk about wine that is more inclusive and relatable to the majority. To learn more visit: thewinelinguist.com About today’s Host: Cynthia Chaplin is a Vinitaly International Academy certified Italian Wine Ambassador, a professional sommelier with Fondazione Italiana Sommelier, a member of Le Donne del Vino, and a Professor of Italian wine and culture. Born in the USA, Cynthia moved to Europe in 1990 where she has lived in Spain, Belgium, England and Italy. She chose to center her career in Rome and immerse herself in the Italian wine sector, which is her passion. She has taught university students and expats, works with embassies, corporations and private clients, creating and presenting tastings, events, seminars and in-depth courses. Cynthia is a wine writer, translator, and a judge at international wine and sake competitions. She consults with restaurants and enotecas assisting in the development of comprehensive wine lists and excellent food pairings, as well as advising private clients who want to develop a comprehensive Italian wine collection. She lives with her British photographer husband on the shore of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome, where they share their beautiful garden with one massive grapevine, two border collies and an arrogant diva cat. Ep. 1004 Marina Schmohl | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1004 Marc Millon interviews Marina Schmohl for the Cantina Aldeno in this special 5Star Wines & Wine Without Walls episode of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon on the Italian Wine Podcast. This is part of a special sub series in which Marc interviews the winners and the contributors of the competition in the coming weeks! More about today’s guest: Marina Schmohl. Official Sommelier Taster and speaker Italian Sommelier Association Trentino. Master Taster and speaker National Organization of Cheese Tasters. National Honey Taster. Activities in the field of food and wine promotion. Participation in national and international juries. More about today’s winery: Cantina Aldeno in Trentino: The landscape finds its own characterization, as well as the people who make viticulture their main activity on which to base their future, their life. And it is precisely this dream that in 1910 led a group of producers to bet on Aldeno wine , deciding to join their efforts in the Cantina Sociale di Aldeno, which represents an example of the fervent cooperative movement that was developing in Trentino. The deed of foundation with the list of the members of the first management of the Social Winery documents the intuition of the farmers, aware that many small realities could have created a solid identity, capable of obtaining an image and an appreciable strength in the market. A few years later a second cooperative was born: the Aldeno Wine Union. The history of these two cooperatives will accompany the life of the community and town of Aldeno for more than half a century, until, in 1972 Cantina Sociale di Aldeno and Unione Vinicola Aldeno were founded in today's Cantina Aldeno , which was born with the aim to keep alive the historical combination of Aldeno and grapes over the years. To learn more visit: www.cantinaaldeno.com/chi-siamo/la-storia/ More about the host Marc Millon: Marc Millon, VIA Italian Wine Ambassador 2021, has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about wine, food and travel for nearly 40 years. Ep. 1001 Jane Brody | On The Road Edition With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 1001, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today she is in New York, interviewing Jane Brody, a pioneer in health and wellness journalism...listen in to them discuss her career and life after 58 years of groundbreaking work at the New York Times More about today’s guest: “In her inimitably straightforward, informative and intelligent manner, New York Times health columnist Brody (Jane Brody’s Good Food Book) gives pragmatic direction to a concerned yet reluctant readership in this essential travel guide for the journey toward the inevitable. In pointing out that there is a difference between sensibly learning to accept death and surrendering, she reminds us that our attitude about living colors our approach to death. Thoroughly outlining all attendant demands and details for facing one’s end, Brody provides facts and support for families and patients, and makes it appear entirely possible to “go with grace.” With bulleted lists itemizing what needs to be done and how to do it, short portraits and anecdotes throughout, Brody covers the importance of preparation; the necessity of an advance directive and why a living will is not enough; funeral plans; living with a bad prognosis and dealing with uncertainty; caregiving; hospice; communicating with doctors; assisted dying; organ donation and autopsy; and legacies. An instructive, inspiring and reassuring work full of compassion and humor (along with several cartoons from various New Yorker illustrators), this volume belongs on every family’s bookshelf.” (From Jane’s website) (Jan.)”–Publisher’s Weekly To learn more visit: www.janebrody.net/ More about the host: Stevie Kim hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! Ep. 999 Map 20 Chile | Jumbo Shrimp Maps

Welcome to Episode 999 The Jumbo Shrimp Maps Series. Today we are going to talk about Map 20, talking about Chile. To purchase the Beta version box set of maps, please visit mammajumboshrimp.com To find out more about Mamma Jumbo Shrimp and how to buy the Maps visit: www.mammajumboshrimp.com More about Peggy Baudon: "I am relatively new to wine, having stumbled into it by default. And with a window of a handful of years until I had planned to return to the teaching profession, the decision to change course and take a leap into the wine world was joyfully made.” If you want to learn more visit: linkedin.com/in/peggy-baudon-dipwset-b6aa84199 Let's keep in touch! More about today’s guest: Alice Feiring is an American journalist and author, for several years a wine and travel columnist for Time magazine, and known as an advocate for "natural wine". In addition to contributions to publications such as The New York Times, New York Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, LA Times, Condé Nast Traveler and Forbes Traveler, her blog "The Feiring Line" (formerly: "Veritas in Vino") is considered one of the best in its specific category, and her voice described by Mike Steinberger as part of a new wave of "real flowering of high-quality wine journalism". In 2011, Feiring was selected as "Online Communicator of the Year" by the Louis Roederer International Wine Writer Awards. On Sept. 30, 2020, Feiring was named a Knight of the French Order of Agricultural Merit. Her first book, published in May 2008, The Battle for Wine and Love: Or How I Saved the World from Parkerization, described as "an opinionated look at the fight to preserve authenticity and diversity in wine", due to its perceived "declaration of war" against critic Robert Parker found some controversy well before its date of release. Reviewing the book, Eric Asimov later wrote, "Ms. Feiring is an uncompromising judge of wine and people who can no more stomach a lover’s preference for a wine she abhors than she can the presence of a microwave in her kitchen." Feiring's critical statements against California wine as "overblown, over-alcoholed, over-oaked, overpriced and over-manipulated" have also sparked controversy. In 2011, Feiring published Naked Wine: Letting Grapes Do What Comes Naturally. Her 2016 book For the Love of Wine: My Odyssey Through the World's Most Ancient Wine Culture,[16] explores the wine of Georgia. In 2017, Feiring published The Dirty Guide to Wine: Following Flavor from Ground to Glass. Ep. 990 Dino Borri | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Ep. 990 Dino Borri | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 990, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today she is roaming Eataly in New York with Dino Borri! More about Eataly: In November 2002, the Eataly concept was born from Oscar Farinetti’s idea sketched on a piece of paper. As a result, Eataly stands for “Eating Italian” which encompasses the history and the food culture of Italy, the ease to prepare its dishes, and the many qualities that Italy has to offer. After five years of research and hard work, the first Eataly opened its doors in Torino on January 27, 2007, when an old vermouth factory was transformed into Eataly Torino Lingotto – the very first multifunctional marketplace dedicated to Italian excellence in the world. And the rest is history. Since then, Eataly has expanded, with more than 35 locations throughout Italy and the world. The idea was simple: to gather under one roof high-quality food at sustainable and reasonable prices for ALL, celebrate Italian biodiversity, and create an informal, natural, and simple place to eat, shop, and learn. More about Dino Borri: Born and raised in Bra, a small town in Piemonte, Dino started his career in the food realm in 2000, when Slow Food hired him to organize and coordinate all their gastronomic events. In 2008, Dino started collaborating with Eataly Turin, where he soon became the person in charge of opening new Eatalian stores all around the world. He lived in Japan for one year, where he curated the opening of all the Eataly Japanese stores, and moved to New York in 2010, to launch the first US location, Eataly New York. Living and breathing high quality food and Mediterranean lifestyle, Dino is now concentrating on developing key partnerships and relationships with like-minded Italian brands abroad, and is Eataly’s USA director of purchasing. Welcome to Episode 985 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors Corner – In this episode Cedric Izri interviews Frank Cornelissen. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you had your pick? About about today’s guest host: Cédric Izri is a French citizen, with roots in Burgundy and Champagne (unfortunately nobody in the family was making wine) . His career path has not been into wine, but in finance. He had multiple positions in multinational companies and traveled a lot across Europe and more. He always had the objective to work in the wine world one day as he has been a long time amateur and passionate about wine. He bought his first premier grand cru of Bordeaux in 1993 (Chateau Haut Brion vintage 1990) with pocket money while being a student (prices were very affordable) and since then, never stopped buying, learning, travelling, tasting and discovering wines from France and abroad. His passion drove Cédric to develop his knowledge and tasting skills through a number of programs. He holds the WSET Diploma, a Sake Sommelier Certification , University Degree on Geo-sensorial tasting (old practice of focusing on physical characteristics and movement of the wine in mouth)and some more. He is a Master of Wine student and since 2022 an Italian Wine Ambassador. Cedric, aside of his regular job, runs a WSET wine school in Luxembourg and a small retail company in France and of course, has thousands of wine related projects in head! If you want to learn more about today’s guest host, you can by visiting: Facebook www.facebook.com/cedricizriDipWset/ Instagram @chambertin18_wine LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/cedric-izri-dipwset-a91ba92/ Website lwsa.lu About today’s guest producer: Frank Cornelissen was born and grew up in Belgium. Before moving to Sicily and establishing his estate in 2001, Frank used to work as an international wine merchant, in particular focusing in Bourgogne and Bordeaux. I have read somewhere that some of the first wines he bought were a mix of 1972 Domaine de la Romanée Conti bottles. If this is true, it tells something, isn't it? Since Frank acquired his first bunch of ungrafted vines, he has expanded up to around 24 Ha today, mostly under vine but also olive trees, fruit trees and vegetables. Ep. 984 Maya Dalla Valle | Voices With Cynthia Chaplin

Ep. 984 Maya Dalla Valle | Voices With Cynthia Chaplin

Welcome to Episode 984 Cynthia Chaplin interviews Maya Dalla Valle, in this installment of Voices, on the Italian Wine Podcast. More about today’s guest: Maya was destined to be a winemaker. In 1986, the year she was conceived, her parents, Naoko and Gustav, made their first vintage of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year—the year she was born—they planted Maya’s Vineyard, a 5-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon that has become one of the most revered winegrowing sites in America. In 1992, this remarkable vineyard yielded a wine that would go on to earn Dalla Valle’s first perfect 100-point score from legendary critic Robert Parker. Growing up at Dalla Valle in the company of winemakers like Heidi Barrett, Tony Soter and Mia Klein infused Maya’s formative years with a sense of place and purpose that has come to define her adult life. In 2017, Dalla Valle became a true multigenerational winery, when Maya joined the winery as director. Committed to earning her place in the family business before coming to Dalla Valle, Maya holds a master’s degree in viticulture and enology from Cornell University, and a master’s of business and science degree in vineyard and winery management from France’s prestigious Bordeaux Science Agro. Equally important, Maya gained invaluable hands-on winemaking experience at Ornellaia e Masseto, Bodegas Rolland, Pétrus and Château Latour. “Dalla Valle is my home. It is also my family’s legacy,” says Maya. “I am so excited to be working alongside my mom. Dalla Valle is her life’s work, and what she has created is remarkable. I also know that the greatest wineries are judged in terms of decades and generations, and that our story is still being written. I am honored to be carrying our family’s legacy into a second generation.” To learn more about today’s guest visit: www.dallavallevineyards.com/people/maya…alla-valle/ [email protected] About today’s Host: Cynthia Chaplin is a Vinitaly International Academy certified Italian Wine Ambassador, a professional sommelier with Fondazione Italiana Sommelier, a member of Le Donne del Vino, and a Professor of Italian wine and culture. Ep. 980 Giacomo Neri Pt. 2 | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Ep. 980 Giacomo Neri Pt. 2 | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 980, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today she continues her visit to the beautiful, family-run Winery, Casanova di Neri in Montalcino, Tuscany, tasting wines with owner Giacomo Neri - listen in as they talk about the winemaking, the labels, the terroir as well as their recent 50th-anniversary celebrations! This is a 2-part interview. Today's interview is Part 2 of 2 More about Casanova di Neri Winery: "We were amazed when we discovered that the letters of CASANOVA DI NERI, the name Giovanni Neri gave the company in 1971, could be rearranged to form a number of Italian sentences that embody some of our deepest held beliefs about wine and winemaking. Could these be ‘messages in a bottle’, sent by our nonno to guide us even when he was no longer around? We’ll never know, but it’s a nice thought! Here, then, is our winemaking credo, summed up in seven anagrams. We believe that success is all about playing the long game. The company founder, Giovanni Neri, was a visionary who understood, well before it became a dogma, that planting the right grapes in the right vineyards was the key to creating great Brunellos. We have continued his legacy, fully aware that the decisions we make today will have an impact on our grandchildren and their grandchildren." Find out more about the winery by visiting: www.casanovadineri.wine/en/586/casanova-di-neri More about the host Stevie Kim: Stevie hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! Ep. 979 Map 16 Canada | Jumbo Shrimp Maps

Welcome to Episode 979 The Jumbo Shrimp Maps Series. Today we are going to talk about Map 16, talking about Canada. Today's Map is presented by Peggy Baudon. And with a window of a handful of years until I had planned to return to the teaching profession, the decision to change course and take a leap into the wine world was joyfully made.” If you want to learn more visit: linkedin.com/in/peggy-baudon-dipwset-b6aa84199 Let's keep in touch! If you want to learn more about today’s guest host, you can by visiting: Instagram @ndorser Twitter @noell LinkedIn Noell Dorsey About today’s guest producer: Mario Zannuso My name is Mario Zanusso, and in 1995 together with my father Ferdinando we started producing natural wines under the name "i Clivi" from 12 hectares of the very best vinegrowing land in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, situated in Brazzano di Cormons, in the Collio D.O.C. district, and Corno di Rosazzo, in the Colli Orientali D.O.C. district. All are very old vineyards on steep hillside slopes (in fact "i Clivi” means “slopes”). My background education is Economics, so I had no specific formation as an enologist, neither did my dad. We learned by studying, by traveling, by exchanging experiences with other producers and mostly by doing. My dad passed in 2020 so today I’m by myself, and overall production is now around 100,000 bottles a year, mostly white wine. Since the beginning our recipe for quality has been very simple: (1) very old vines - at least 60 years of age, but many are 80 or over - for natural concentration, complexity and elegance as well as marked individuality and strong character; (2) certified organic cultivation in the vineyard and "spontaneous" vinification - i. e. no chemicals, no inoculations nor machines - in the cellar for absolute integrity; and (3) maturing for several months in stainless steel and cement vats before these slow-developing, long-lasting but "light" wines were offered for sale.
