Episode 88: Positive Intelligence
Every day, your mind is sabotaging your performance, wellbeing and your relationships. According to Positive Intelligence, all your negative emotions, including stress, are the result of your self-sabotage.Positive Intelligence has research-based tools to strengthen the part of your brain- your Sage- that serves you and quiet the part that sabotages you. In episode 88 of Instigating Women + Friends, Kate and I discuss this concept and its effectiveness in helping clients shift their behavior and experience accelerated growth. Episode 68: Machiavellianism
Machiavelli encourages leaders to lie, manipulate, and use coercive persuasion to serve their own needs - gain power and prestige. A coachee had asked me about this topic, and I believe it's relatable to many. If you're currently working with an individual with these qualities, try to stay focused on the mission and the purpose of the organization or company. Don't get sucked into anything personal because they may use it against you later. Always be about the company or the product. It's easy to think you should work more hours and do more stuff to win over this individual... but that strategy may not work. Instead, work your hours and do great work. Double down on self-care. Your values are important. Learn more about Machiavellianism at https://www.ckju.net/en/dossier/machi.... Episode 63: End of Life Coaching
Have you heard of end-of-life coaching? It's also known as a death doula, in which Kate is trained as. A death doula is there to be an advocate for the dying person, and secondarily for the family. The focus is on the person's quality of life and what they truly want during their final stage. I talk about coaching during big transitions all the time. Well, big transitions don't necessarily mean a career change, divorce, etc. It can mean partnering with someone as they near the end of their life. This is a great example of the assumption of what a coach is or can be. This is something nobody wants to talk about, but it's important, powerful, and valuable. Episode 45: Masking
Join Kate (Nason) Marieb, Elizabeth McLean-Williams and Gwen Sandefur as we talk about the tricky upsides and downsides of “masking” . . . And no, we aren’t talking about COVID-19 masking. We would love to hear your thoughts! We reference the book “Talking to Strangers” by Malcom Gladwell in the video - a fascinating account of the masks we put on or believe we put on and express. This is why it is so hard to communicate and relate to one another in everyday life. It’s always best to simply say what you are thinking or asking - as we have mentioned before: to be clear is to be kind!

Episode 44: Compassion
Burnout? Quiet Quitting? How about the antidote - Compassion? At the risk of being perceived as too warm/fuzzy and navel-gazing, we invite you to learn more about compassion. In her latest resource, Atlas of the Heart, Dr. Brene’ Brown defines compassion - “Compassion is the daily practice of recognizing and accepting our shared humanity so that we treat ourselves and others with loving-kindness, and we take action in the face of suffering.” Compassion is active - for self and others. For those in healthcare, Compassionomics by Stephen Trzeciak and Anthony Mazzarelli provides mountains of evidence-based science to prove that compassion is best for patients AND caregivers. Don’t have time? They say it takes on average 40 seconds to achieve meaningful results. Don’t have any more compassion to give? Then how about focusing on much-needed self-compassion and focusing only on those components of the career that inspired your passion for healthcare in the first place? We invite you to share what you are doing for yourself and others - we want to learn from and support each other.

Episode 41: Resilience
Last week, I was joined by Intel Corporation Marketing and Communications Manager and Hudon Certified Coach Kate Marieb on episode 41 of Instigating Women + Friends. There's a lot of stress and anxiety today, so we decided to discuss resilience to give you some new insights and ideas to bring into your life. *We apologize for the technical difficulties.

Episode 40: Special Guest: Leanne Mauriello
We wanted to share an expert with you to help bring health and well-being to life in 2022. Leanne Mauriello, Spectrum Health Director Lifestyle Medicine shares her time, expertise and a great challenge for the New Year called Plant Powered Challenge (link below). Even more important than a lesson or challenge is that Leanne is authentic in sharing that no one is perfect when attempting behavior modification - not even herself. So remember you are human as you embark on any change, whether diet, exercise or other. It’s mostly about baby steps and incorporating small tweaks into the natural flow of today as much as possible. A main point to understand is “Plant Powered” is not necessarily as daunting as Vegan or Vegetarian - you choose. Plant Powered can simply mean adding plants into your normal diet as much as possible to power you to thrive. How does that sound for 2022?!

Episode 39: Holiday Chill
Yes the holidays are usually chilly, unless you live in a special place without 4 seasons. Liz is bringing a new meaning to holiday chill in this episode. She’s committed to creating personal chill time and only doing what she wants to be focused on the rest of the month, regardless of who it may unfortunately disappoint. In addition to prioritizing her time on herself to have energy and spunk for everyone else, she’s also committed to using her other resources to help others in need. I’m committed to joining her in this challenge. Who will join us???? It may feel counter-cultural and no one wants to let our friends and loved ones down, so it can be a bit scary . . . but we wonder, might it be a more special holiday and more memorable than even before? Let’s find out! This is a challenge that goes to the heart of health and wellness - because mental health is health too. Happy Holidays everyone!
