Fred Rosen - Bayou Strangler

Fred Rosen - Bayou Strangler

In 1997, the bodies of young African American men began turning up in the cane fields of the quiet suburbs of New Orleans. The victims—many of them transient street hustlers—had been brutally raped and strangled, but police had no leads on the killer’s identity. The murders continued, leaving southeast Louisiana’s gay community rattled and the police desperate for a break in the case. Detectives Dennis Thornton and Dawn Bergeron came together as task force partners, and they were indefatigable in their decade-long effort to track down the killer. In 2006, DNA evidence finally linked the murders to a suspect: the unassuming Ronald Joseph Dominique, who had lived under the radar for years, working as a pizza deliveryman and meter reader. But who was Ronald Dominique and what led him to commit such heinous crimes?Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All A&E

The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All A&E

For the first time in over a decade, Erik Menendez opens up with his most in-depth interview to date in The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All, a new documentary series that re-examines one of the most fascinating true crime tragedies of the past century through the lens of one of the convicted killers. This riveting series includes extensive phone interviews with Erik as well as rare emotional footage, never-before-seen photos and new interviews with prosecutors, law enforcement, close family, friends and medical experts that chronicle the story you thought you knew.“My only hope in speaking out is that people may have a more complete understanding. A more complete understanding of the events that led up to my actions on the night of August 20th, and really a fuller picture of what really happened in my life. All I can hope for is that people will come to realize that the truth is not a simple, one-line explanation that many people have tried to make it out to be. That really, that my life was this unfolding of a complicated life that I lived had all of these things that came into being and that led up to my involvement and responsibility for what is an ongoing and enduring family tragedy. The tragedy didn’t end on that night, as devastating as that night was. It didn’t end there for my family, and it continues on to this day, and that sadness is something that I am trying to make up for with them and with my parents for the rest of my life. It will never end,” said Erik Menendez from prison on the timing of this interview.Erik Menendez recounts the horrible torment of his tortured past, the brutal murder that he and his older brother Lyle committed and the dizzying series of events that led them to conceal and later confess to their roles in the killing of their parents. After two trials and three juries, Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This eye-opening series features new interviews with former Los Angeles District Attorney Christopher Darden, news icon Larry King, Erik’s wife Tammi Menendez and Associated Press trial reporter Linda Deutsch, among many others, who provide their personal points of view to help unveil the real story behind the notorious case.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Mindhunter: Mark Olshaker (uncut interview) Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit -

Discover the classic, behind-the-scenes chronicle of John E. Douglas’ twenty-five-year career in the FBI Investigative Support Unit, where he used psychological profiling to delve into the minds of the country’s most notorious serial killers and criminals—the basis for the upcoming Netflix original series. In chilling detail, the legendary Mindhunter takes us behind the scenes of some of his most gruesome, fascinating, and challenging cases—and into the darkest recesses of our worst nightmares. During his twenty-five year career with the Investigative Support Unit, Special Agent John Douglas became a legendary figure in law enforcement, pursuing some of the most notorious and sadistic serial killers of our time: the man who hunted prostitutes for sport in the woods of Alaska, the Atlanta child murderer, and Seattle's Green River killer, the case that nearly cost Douglas his life. As the model for Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Douglas has confronted, interviewed, and studied scores of serial killers and assassins, including Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and Ed Gein, who dressed himself in his victims' peeled skin. Using his uncanny ability to become both predator and prey, Douglas examines each crime scene, reliving both the killer's and the victim's actions in his mind, creating their profiles, describing their habits, and predicting their next movesSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. RANDY WILLIAMS- AUTUMN OF TERROR (JACK THE RIPPER)

RANDY WILLIAMS- AUTUMN OF TERROR (JACK THE RIPPER)

Everyone knows the name of Sherlock Holmes -- the fictional detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle with his superhuman powers of observation and unbeatable methodology for solving crimes. But could his 1800’s philosophy really work in the modern world to solve genuine crimes? That’s the very question that a real-life US-based private detective asked himself before embarking on the adventure of a lifetime by stepping into Holmes’ shoes and using his mindset to solve real crimes. So effective was this method that he decided to turn his attention to the greatest set of crimes known in history -- the brutal murders perpetrated by the criminal who came to be known as Jack the Ripper. The author, along with a team of three of the world’s top forensic scientists and criminologists, Dr. Michael M. Baden, Dr. Cyril H. Wecht and Dr. Henry C. Lee, have convincingly solved the infamous Jack the Ripper murders of 1888 London – arguably the world’s most talked-about unsolved murder mystery. But their true-life resolution of the case is presented here in the form of a Sherlock Holmes novel, painstakingly penned faithfully in the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In it, the author – who actually used Holmes’ methods to uncover the killers’ identity – explains exactly how the crimes were committed and by whom, all in the form of a fast-paced thriller featuring the world’s most beloved detective along with Dr. Watson, from whose point-of-view most of the tale is told. Once the reader has finally been clued in on the final solution, the murders are then revisited from the killers’ perspective. The story opens in the year 2017 with the sealed box of Holmes’ most controversial cases being opened by Watson’s great grandson Jacob, and among those cases is that of London’s Ripper murders that took place in what was then and has forever after been known as the “Autumn of Terror.” Jacob is shocked to learn the true story, as well as the reasons Holmes deemed the case’s explosive resolution too shocking and incendiary to have been revealed to the public in Victorian England and so to be sealed “entombed in a tin box” for 125 years, as were a number of other cases that are mentioned in some of Doyle’s Holmes stories.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Dahmer's Confession - John Borowski

Dahmer's Confession - John Borowski

On July 22, 1991, serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested. As the officers searched his apartment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, they discovered dismembered body parts in the refrigerator. Further investigation led them to photographs of other victims which Dahmer dismembered. Upon confessing to officers, Dahmer admitted to acts of necrophilia and cannibalism. For the first time in print, Dahmer’s Confession presents the Milwaukee cannibal’s complete confession, raw and uncensored. Jeffrey Dahmer’s inclusion into the Serial Killer Culture is illustrated in the book by including artworks based on Dahmer and writings by those affected by Dahmer’s case and crimes.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. SPD Chief (retired) Norm Stamper - Seattle Studio Live

SPD Chief (retired) Norm Stamper - Seattle Studio Live

The police in America belong to the people—not the other way around. Yet millions of Americans experience their cops as racist, brutal, and trigger-happy: an overly aggressive, militarized enemy of the people. For their part, today's officers feel they are under siege—misunderstood, unfairly criticized, and scapegoated for society's ills. Is there a fix? Former Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper believes there is.Policing is in crisis. The last decade has witnessed a vast increase in police aggression, misconduct, and militarization, along with a corresponding reduction in transparency and accountability. It is not just noticeable in African American and other minority communities—where there have been a series of high-profile tragedies—but in towns and cities across the country. Racism—from raw, individualized versions to insidious systemic examples—appears to be on the rise in our police departments. Overall, our police officers have grown more and more alienated from the people they've been hired to serve. In To Protect and Serve, Stamper delivers a revolutionary new model for American law enforcement: the community-based police department. It calls for fundamental changes in the federal government's role in local policing as well as citizen participation in all aspects of police operations: policymaking, program development, crime fighting and service delivery, entry-level and ongoing education and training, oversight of police conduct, and--especially relevant to today's challenges--joint community-police crisis management. Nothing will ever change until the system itself is radically restructured, and here Stamper shows us how.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. GERALD POSNER - KILLING THE DREAM (MLK ASSASSINATION)

GERALD POSNER - KILLING THE DREAM (MLK ASSASSINATION)

On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in Memphis, Tennessee, by a single assassin’s bullet. A career criminal named James Earl Ray was seen fleeing from a rooming house that overlooked the hotel balcony from where King was cut down. An international manhunt ended two months later with Ray’s capture. Though Ray initially pled guilty, he quickly recanted and for the rest of his life insisted he was an unwitting pawn in a grand conspiracy. In Killing the Dream, expert investigative reporter Gerald Posner reexamines Ray and the evidence, even tracking down the mystery man Ray claimed was the conspiracy’s mastermind. Beginning with an authoritative biography of Ray’s life, and continuing with a gripping account of the assassination and its aftermath, Posner cuts through phony witnesses, false claims, and a web of misinformation surrounding that tragic spring day in 1968. He puts Ray’s conspiracy theory to rest and ultimately manages to disclose what really happened the day King was murderedSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Heaven's Gate: America's UFO Religion - Benjamin E. Zeller

Heaven's Gate: America's UFO Religion - Benjamin E. Zeller

In March 1997, thirty-nine people in Rancho Santa Fe, California, ritually terminated their lives. To outsiders, it was a mass suicide. To insiders, it was a graduation. This act was the culmination of over two decades of spiritual and social development for the members of Heaven’s Gate, a religious group focused on transcending humanity and the Earth, and seeking salvation in the literal heavens on board a UFO. In this fascinating overview, Benjamin Zeller not only explores the question of why the members of Heaven’s Gate committed ritual suicides, but interrogates the origin and evolution of the religion, its appeal, and its practices. By tracking the development of the history, social structure, and worldview of Heaven’s Gate, Zeller draws out the ways in which the movement was both a reflection and a microcosm of larger American culture. The group emerged out of engagement with Evangelical Christianity, the New Age movement, science fiction and UFOs, and conspiracy theories, and it evolved in response to the religious quests of baby boomers, new religions of the counterculture, and the narcissistic pessimism of the 1990s. Thus, Heaven’s Gate not only reflects the context of its environment, but also reveals how those forces interacted in the form of a single religious body. In the only book-length study of Heaven’s Gate, Zeller traces the roots of the movement, examines its beliefs and practices, and tells the captivating story of the people of Heaven’s GateSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. KKNW - The Principle - Rick Delano (full)

KKNW - The Principle - Rick Delano (full)

Rick DeLano has worked as a producer, executive producer, and financial consultant in the music and film industries for more than 20 years. His fascination with the question of our place in the cosmos began with a $1,000 Internet challenge to provide direct scientific proof of the universally assumed motion of the Earth around the sun. When he found that he (nor anyone else for that matter) couldn’t collect, he was astonished to realize no one had ever made a documentary film examining the Copernican Principle—the foundational idea of modernity itself and how it came to be perhaps the most widely believed metaphysical assumption in the history of the human race. THE PRINCIPLE, which Rick wrote and produced, is the first documentary examination of this cosmological principle. Needless to say, it has generated a bit of controversy, which is fine with Rick.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. KFNX Ken Eurell - Betryal in Blue

NYPD officers Mike Dowd and Kenny Eurell knew there were two ways to get rich quick in Brooklyn's Lower East Side. You either became drug dealers, or you robbed drug dealers. They decided to do both. “I promised my wife that we would make a lot of money, and that she had nothing to worry about. I LIED!”Dowd and Eurell ran the most powerful gang in New York’s dangerous 75th Precinct, the crack cocaine capitol of 1980s America. These “ Cocaine Cops” formed a lucrative alliance with Adam Diaz, the kingpin of an ever-expanding Dominican drug cartel. Soon Mike and Ken were buying fancy cars no cop could afford, and treating their wives to levels of luxury not associated with a patrol officer's salary. They Were Daring, Dangerous and Untouchable Until ...Then “ the biggest police scandal in New York history” exploded into the headlines with the arrest of Mike, Ken, and their fellow crooked cops. Released on bail, Mike offered Ken a long shot at escape to Central America—a bizarre plan involving robbery, kidnapping, and murder—forcing Ken to choose between two forms of betrayal. “When you lie, you steal the truth. Once you have stolen the truth, you can justify stealing anything from anybody.”Adapted from Ken Eurell's shocking personal memoir, plus hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with the major players, including former international drug lord, Adam Diaz, and Dori Eurell, revealing the truth behind what you won't see in the hit documentary THE SEVEN FIVE. Edgar Award winner Burl Barer once again teams with award-winning journalist Frank C.
