Covenant Keeping Servants (Hank Unplugged Short)
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, highlights a couple that he is honored to have known since the early days of his ministry—a couple that he considers to an incredible example of servant leadership and a reminder that we as Christians are called to use our resources to serve the poor. May we all heed the words of Matthew 6:19-20 and strive to be covenant-keeping servants of Christ.

Islam Advances by the Sword (Hank Unplugged Short)
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, can’t get Afghanistan off his mind. In 635, three years after Muhammad died, Damascus (the city toward which Paul was advancing when he experienced a dramatic conversion to Christ) fell to invading Muslims. Two years later, Antioch, where followers of Christ were first called Christians, fell. Shortly thereafter it was the tragic task of the Patriarch of Jerusalem to hand over the city to conquering Muslims. And so for fourteen centuries, the advance of Islam has continued not by word but by sword—as we see in Afghanistan today. Will Christians again be martyred? Certainly. As contrast is the conduit to clarity, compare Muhammad and Christ.

Our Collective Amnesia (Hank Unplugged Short)
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, recalls Hitler’s statement with respect to amnesia—he had given orders to his death units to exterminate the Polish and said, after all, “who remembers the extermination of the Armenians?” Hitler banked on collective amnesia. And the same thing is happening with Islam. Prior to the recent takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, it was already the second most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian. We as Christians must exercise the power of prayer and do all that is permissible to stay the insidious rise of Sharia in western regions—and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters, particularly as Afghanistan still remains on our radar.

Hank Unplugged Short: When Christian Leaders Cave
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, laments that it’s easy to blame a rapidly devolving culture on pagans, but the real problem is not pagans—it’s Christians ceasing to be salt and light in a lost and searching world. When Christian leaders are not willing publicly to call abortion sin, it is a severe warning to us all—for Christ said, “If the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Hank Unplugged Short: Designating Christians as Dangerous
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, reflects on the relegation of Christians to the margins of society—not merely as wrong but dangerous. In doing so, it will become much easier for society to persecute them. As Nazis relegated Jewish people to the margins, it became easier to persecute and murder them.

Hank Unplugged Short: Lord, Abide With Me
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, shares part of a missive from his sister Jobje, expressing love and gratitude for prayers as she battles cancer. She writes that her mind is riveted upon the truths and promises of God—particularly riveted on the lyrics of a hymn by Rev. Henry Francis Lyte (1793–1847), titled “Abide with Me,” a hymn he wrote as he himself was dying of Tuberculosis.

Hank Unplugged Short: Tyranny of the Taliban and Progressive American Values
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, reflects on the devastating implications of America’s ill-conceived withdrawal from Afghanistan—as we simultaneously attempt to export progressive American values, such as encapsulated in a recent headline: “Academy of Breast Feeding Medicine Includes Chest Feeding and Father’s Milk in New Guidelines.” The U. S. withdrawal is symbolic of the discombobulation of a government and people. The only hope for Western Civilization is Christians being salt and light in a lost and searching world.

Hank Unplugged Short: What Do the Taliban Portend?
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, reflects on what happened over the weekend in Afghanistan (Aug. 2021). The Taliban represent an Islamic juggernaut bent on the enforcement of Islamic law not only in Afghanistan but beyond.

Hank Unplugged Short: When a Man Stops Believing in God
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, reflects on G. K. Chesterton’s quip that “When a man stops believing in God, he doesn’t believe in nothing; he believes in anything.” While other countries are reversing course, America is doing irreversible harm to children by trying to transition them from male to female with draconian drug treatments—treatments that will impact them for the rest of their lives. Science, like truth, is being subjectively politicized.

Hank Unplugged Short: Changing Roles of East & West
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man Broadcast and the Hank Unplugged Podcast, observes that Eastern European countries such as Hungary and Poland have retained their inherited identities and the ideologies that have made Western civilization the greatest civilization in the history of the world—including a great Christian mission sending force. They have seen the horror of communism and reject the empty promises of neo-socialist influences. Contrast this with the path America is heading—a path that will ultimately lead to ruin.

Hank Unplugged Short: Standing for Truth, Experience Life
Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man Broadcast and the Hank Unplugged Podcast, wonders how many of us today are men and women of conviction. John the Baptist was not like a reed shaking in the wind—not one to change according to popular opinion—but was a man of conviction willing to stand for truth no matter the cost. If ever there was a time when such conviction was necessary, that time has come.

Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast and the Hank Unplugged podcast, shares what he’s been reading lately in addition to Scripture — The Bridge at Andau by James A. Michener and Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay, among others. Books that offer glimpses into communist prison camps. Good books present opportunities for engaging conversations in communion with absent authors.

As his family grapples with COVID-19, Hank Hanegraaff reminds us that while this life has ups and downs, including sickness and sorrow, our hope is not in a temporary universe in bondage to decay. Ultimately, our hope in Christ looks forward to a renewed universe liberated from bondage—a new heaven and earth wherein dwells righteousness.

This is a shocking development for those who have lived through the horrors of communism in places like China—people like Bob Fu. Dr. Bob Fu is the president of ChinaAid and one of the leading voices in the world for persecuted faith communities in China. Return of the God Hypothesis: Evidence for the Existence of God with Stephen Meyer
Beginning in the late 19th century, many intellectuals began to insist that scientific knowledge conflicts with traditional theistic belief—that science and belief in God are “at war.” In Return of the God Hypothesis, Stephen Meyer argues that theism—with its affirmation of a transcendent, intelligent and active creator—best explains the evidence we have concerning biological and cosmological origins. Previously Meyer refrained from attempting to answer questions about “who” might have designed life. Now he provides an evidence-based answer to perhaps the ultimate mystery of the universe. The results? Meyer reveals a stunning conclusion: the data support not just the existence of an intelligent designer of some kind—but the existence of a personal God.You don’t want to miss this episode of Hank Unplugged, as Stephen Meyer joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss Return of the God Hypothesis and the breakthrough evidence that will change the way you view the world around you—and the God that created it—forever. For more information on receiving Return of the God Hypothesis for your partnering gift please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-return-of-the-god-hypothesis-three-scientific-discoveries-that-reveal-the-mind-behind-the-universe-hup/Topics discussed include: The debate with Lawrence Krauss that inspired Stephen Meyer to write Return of the God Hypothesis (3:00); the implications of Darwinian evolution, scientific materialism and a universe without God (8:25); the inability of scientific materialism to explain origins (16:00); what ideas have led people away from belief in God? (21:00); the implications of the scientific discovery providing evidence that the universe had a beginning (24:45); the hidden theistic implications of Quantum cosmology (30:00); the rise of the multiverse and how the fine tuning of the universe supports evidence for God (35:30); biological evidence for the existence of God (40:40); the history of the God hypothesis dating back to Isaac Newton and the Scientific Revolution and why Stephen Meyer believes it is time for a return of the God hypothesis (45:10); debunking the myth that science and religion are in conflict (54:30); three metaphors used to describe nature (59:30); examining the intellectual shift away from a belief in God in philosophy and science (1:03:05); how a lack of Christian unity impacted the shift in prevalence to a materialist worldview (1:07:10); the problem with Hume’s argument against miracles (1:08:45); why is the issue of origins so important? Apatheism: Who Cares if God Exists? with Kyle Beshears
Atheists don’t believe in God. Agnostics don’t know if God exists. Theists believe in God. What do Apatheists believe? In short, they simply do not care to answer the question of God’s existence. How can you share the gospel with someone who doesn’t care?As Western culture becomes increasingly indifferent to questions of faith, diverted by secularism, comfort, and distraction, Christians today encounter many people who don’t so much doubt the existence of a God, but are more or less apathetic about God. For maybe the first time in human history, many apatheistic individuals today are too busy to bother with pondering the existence of God. Kyle Beshears joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss his book Apatheism: How We Share When They Don’t Care, the origins of apatheism, how it has grown to epidemic levels in society today and most importantly, how Christians might impact the indifference of apatheists and impact them with gospel truth. For more information on how to receive Apatheism: How We Share When They Don’t Care for your partnering gift please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-apatheism-how-we-share-when-they-dont-care-hup/Topics discussed include: What is apatheism? both a belief and a feeling towards theism (5:45); what are the conditions under which apatheism flourishes in a society? Have You Cut Your Head from Your Heart? with Adam Pelser
Have we as a culture cut our heads from our hearts? Adam Pelser joins Hank to discuss virtue formation in the life of a Christian and the importance of intentionally cultivating proper emotions as opposed to viewing emotions as unreliable indicators of truth. The fact of the matter is that emotions are not the enemy of objective rationality. Emotions, properly understood, can actually provide a greater understanding of truth. Unfortunately, far too many have embraced what Pelser calls the guillotine view of rationality—cutting off our heads from our hearts in an effort to embrace pure rationality. It is critical for Christians to reunite our heads with our hearts and avoid the pitfalls of a purely intellectual pursuit of God by engaging in intentional practices as a Christian community that help us become fully human by cultivating emotions and virtues that bring us closer to Christ—the true purpose of the Christian life. For more information please see two articles written by Adam Pelser linked below. Is Hell Eternal? with Fr. Lawrence Farley
The doctrine of hell as a place of eternal punishment has never been easy for Christians to accept. The temptation to retreat from and reject a traditional teaching of hell for more palatable alternatives such as universalism or annihilationism is particularly strong in our current culture, which has demonstrably lost its sense of sin. Likewise, we live in a death denying culture. But, it is undeniable that you are going to die. This simple fact makes understanding eternity of the utmost importance. Will you enjoy an eternity in Heaven or an eternity suffering in hell? Fr. Lawrence Farley joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss the traditional teaching on this difficult subject through the lens of Scripture to show that the existence of an eternal hell does not negate that of a loving and forgiving God.To learn more about his article, in the current edition of the Christian Research Journal entitled, “In Defense of the Church’s Traditional Doctrine of Hell” and subscribe and receive this as your first issue (Spring 2021) please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/crj-subscription/ For more information on Fr. Until Unity with Francis Chan
Church Unity is Not Optional. Many Christians who want unity don’t value theology or holiness. Yet, God commands all three. There must be a way to end the divisions that grieve the Holy Spirit without sacrificing truth or embracing sin. As the world grows more divided, Christians must unite—in love for the Lord and one another—as a winsome witness to the world through our oneness in Christ. Francis Chan joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss his new book Until Unity and why Christian unity is not optional. We hope that this conversation will inspire Spirit-filled people from all denominations to fight for unity with humility, gentleness and love in obedience to our Lord’s High Priestly Prayer. “…that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” To receive your copy of Until Unity by Francis Chan for your partnering gift please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2105hup/Topics discussed include: Is Christian unity possible? Christian Persecution: Hungary Has a Plan to Help with Tristan Azbej
Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. Tragically, anti-Christian animus in the West has largely led to ignorance of the persecution of Christians today and the result has been a human rights travesty of historic proportions. Hank often says that the problem of Christian persecution in the Middle East is squarely in the blind spot of the West. When it comes to addressing the issue of Christian persecution, Hungary is a small country making a big difference. A Christian Response to Homophobia and Racism with Rev. Matt Kennedy
The world around us is consumed by issues of identity—the church included. Responding to these issues from an orthodox Christian perspective is critical to the future of the church, however, it isn’t always easy for Christians to follow their convictions when claims of homophobia, racism and the like are made against those holding to traditional norms of morality. How should we respond to claims that Christians are homophobic, racist and bigoted? Reverend Matt Kennedy has recently written on these issues in the Christian Research Journal (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/) (All Have Not Sinned in Every Way: Racism and Original Sin (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/out-of-the-ashes-at-ground-zero/) and Why Do Parents of Gay Children Change Their Theological Minds? (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/if-your-child-were-gay-would-you-change-your-view-on-homosexuality/ ) and joins Hank Hanegraaff to provide Christians with encouragement to stand on the solid ground of Christian conviction as opposed to the sinking sands of cultural conformity.Topics discussed include: What made Matt Kennedy become a Christian? Rewriting History: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America with Mary Grabar
In a world filled with fake news—Research — the ‘R’ in CRI — is more critical than ever. While researching Columbus Day, Hank Hanegraaff read countless articles conveying Christopher Columbus as one of history’s greatest villains—far from the hero of history we learned about as students. Then Hank realized something. Every article using the same source — Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. You may not know his name, but he’s largely responsible for poisoning the minds of an entire generation. Zinn’s influence is wide and his lies won’t be resisted unless they’re recognized—making Debunking Howard Zinn one of the most important books you could read. The Demon in Democracy: Totalitarian Temptations in Free Societies with Ryszard Legutko
Professor Ryszard Legutko lived and suffered under communism for decades and fought in the Polish anti-communist movement to abolish it. Having now live for over two decades under a liberal democracy, Legutko has discovered that liberal democracy and communism have more in common than one might think. Professor Legutko joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss The Demon in Democracy, as Legutko explains how liberal democracy has slowly tilted toward the same goals as communism, albeit without Soviet-style brutality. Having escaped the horrors of communism Legutko understands just how critical it is for Western Christians to understand the threats that lie buried within the systems we’ve long considered safe and learn to recognize The Demon in Democracy. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2101hup/Topics discussed include: What are the similarities between communism and liberal democracy? Totalitarianism in America? with Rod Dreher
For years, émigrés from the former Soviet Union have been telling Rod Dreher they see telltale signs of “soft” totalitarianism cropping up in America. Identity politics are intruding into every aspect of life. Progressives are marginalizing conservative Christians. Technology and consumerism are creating the possibility of a corporate surveillance state. And the pandemic has left our country especially vulnerable to demagogic manipulation. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said that one of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming totalitarianism can’t happen at home. Rod Dreher joins Hank Hanegraaff to warn American Christians of approaching dangers and equip them for the long resistance. Topics discussed include: How an essay by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn inspired the title for Rod Dreher’s new book Live Not by Lies (6:15); stories of émigrés from the former Soviet Union telling Rod Dreher that they see reminders of communism cropping up in America (7:55); the dangers of cancel culture and people being afraid to speak freely (11:05); the difference between hard totalitarianism and soft totalitarianism (13:50); are we living in a world more similar to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World or George Orwell’s 1984? The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe with Jay Richards
For the first time in history, the world shut itself down — by choice — fearful of a virus that wasn’t well understood. The government ordered the closure of countless businesses — many never to return. Schools sent students home to be taught in front of a computer. Churches canceled worship services. “Social distancing” went from a non-word to a moral obligation overnight. We need to know what happened—to keep it from ever happening again. Jay Richards joins Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, to discuss his new book The Price of Panic, examining one of the most unprecedented global events in a generation — the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2012hup/Topics discussed include: Are there similarities between the way that Y2K was covered and the coverage of Covid-19? Holy Tradition with Hank Hanegraaff, Francis Chan and Metropolitan Yohan
Tradition has become a dirty word to many Christians in the West, often pitting Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition against one another. However, if Holy Tradition is Scripture rightly understood then there is no need for them to be viewed in conflict. Hank Hanegraaff believes that the West would do well to recapture the spiritual power of Holy Tradition that has provided Christians throughout history with the spiritual practices meant to bring us closer to Christ. As Yaroslav Pelikan so eloquently wrote in The Vindication of Tradition,” Tradition is the living faith of the dead; traditionalism is the dead faith of the living.” Simply put, Tradition is severely misunderstood by many, so Hank Hanegraaff, Francis Chan and Metropolitan Yohan discuss Holy Tradition and Francis Chan ends this discussion series with a plea for Christians to dialogue in a spirit of brotherly love, humility and unity. Topics discussed include: Are Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition in conflict? (0:00); in defense of Holy Tradition—“Tradition is the living faith of the dead, traditionalism is the dead faith of the living” (5:35); how can we understand Holy Traditions? (11:30); why are Holy Traditions important? (15:00); the biblical practice of Confession (20:35); church is not about hearing a great sermon it is about worshiping God—the Sacramental life is a life of worshiping God (23:30); Francis Chan makes a plea for Christians to dialogue in a spirit of brotherly love, humility and unity (38:35). You Are What You Love: The Spiritual Power of Habit with James K.A. Smith
You are what you love. But you might not love what you think. Christians desire to shape culture, yet are often unaware of how culture shapes us—unaware of the ways our hearts are being taught to love rival gods instead of the One for whom we were made. James K.A. Smith joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss the major themes of his book, You Are What You Love, detailing the formative power of culture and the transformative possibilities of traditional Christian practices. Who and what we worship fundamentally shapes our hearts and James K.A. Smith wants Christians to recognize the critical role of the church in lives of Christians—that church should always be the hub and heart of Christian formation and discipleship. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2011hup/Topics discussed include: How historic examples of the Christian faith were lost as Christianity remade itself in the image of the Enlightenment (2:00); the spiritual power of habit (6:10); regaining a perspective of the heart according to biblical language (12:05); the significance of liturgy in the Christian life and the way that disordered or rival liturgies negatively impact our lives (14:55); why James K.A. Smith believes worship is at the heart of discipleship (18:25); the importance of the church in the Christian life and as a means of sanctification to experience union with Christ (20:40); why knowing Church history is so important to our growth as Christians (23:40); James K.A. Smith draws a powerful connection between addiction recovery programs like AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and effective church discipleship in order to point out the spiritual power of habit as well as the spiritual power of bad habit (27:00); what does it mean to have a proper understanding of worship? (30:10); the disenchantment of the Church and the power of spiritual formation through repetition (34:45); the transcendent strangeness of historic Christian worship as a key element to discipleship and evangelism (41:15); Christians cannot hope to recreate the world if we are constantly trying to recreate the church (50:45); the transformative power of practice and habituation in sanctification (55:00); one of the most powerful passages in all of theology—what does a faithful Christian life look like? Politics for Christians with Francis J. Beckwith
Should Christians be involved in politics? Christians in America have the historically unique power to enact laws that advance the common good and must take this special obligation seriously by using good judgement while voting and supporting legislation and political candidates. We might not always agree on the policies and candidates that are the best option to advance the common good, but there is no doubt that Christians have a biblical mandate to advance it. Frank Beckwith joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss the way systems of government work and how public policies become the social and legal fabric of our country—shaping the quality of our national character. If “statecraft is soulcraft,” then Christians cannot remain silent at the ballot box. The soul of our nation is at stake. Are We Living in the Last Days? with Gary DeMar
Are we living in the last days? Many people point to the deluge of disorder and division in the world today as evidence that we are living in the last days. However, this is often the result of sacred scripture being taken out of context. Misunderstandings about the end times (eschatology) have been widely propagated by a seemingly endless stream of end times prophecies and popular books such as the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye. Hank Hanegraaff is joined by end times expert Gary DeMar to clear up the confusion regarding the last days by discussing what the Bible really says about the end times and why it matters today. Topics discussed include: The geopolitical consequences of eschatological beliefs and the Middle East deals being made by President Trump (4:20); what is dispensational eschatology? (6:10); discussing Israel and the Church–are there two distinct people of God? (54:50); many people and churches distanced themselves from Hank Hanegraaff when he wrote his book The Apocalypse Code (1:06:30); reading and understanding the Bible in the light that the Bible was not written to us, but it was written for us (1:07:40); using the Bible to interpret the Bible (1:14:10); do we find the ideas from Left Behind and the rapture in the Olivet discourse? (1:16:20); misunderstanding the Book of Revelation (1:14:20); what is the key to understanding the Book of Revelation? The Key to Christian Unity is Humility with Francis Chan and Metropolitan Yohan
We are thrilled to present a series of conversations between our dear brothers in Christ, Francis Chan and Metropolitan Yohan (aka KP Yohannan). These conversations were initiated by criticism that Francis Chan received as a result of publicly discussing the history of the church and the Eucharist and inspired by our desire to promote dialogue on divisive issues within the body of Christ in a spirit of brotherly love to honor the high priestly prayer of our Heavenly Father just before His passion on the cross “that they may all be one…so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:21) On behalf of Francis Chan and Metropolitan Yohan, we hope that these conversations will inspire you to inspect Church history, encourage you to engage in dialogue with those that you may disagree with and live the answer to our Lord’s High Priestly prayer that we may all be one. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35) The Key to Christian Unity is Humility…. is the second episode in this four part series of round table conversations and addresses the prayer for unity made by the Lord in His High Priestly Prayer “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” Many have said that the first step towards unity is humility—so how do we humble ourselves and pursue unity over the essentials of the historic Christian faith despite our differences?
