Listen to this Post: Book Promotion Services and Sites (That Won’t Break the Bank)
Hello Authors, have a listen to this post for a few specific book promotion sites to promote your book.. ~ClaudineYou can read this article with the links included here.As a subscriber to Get Your Book Seen and Sold, you already know that book marketing is a big part of your job as an author. In this podcast episode, I introduce the concept of book promotion through websites created to offer you book promotion opportunities. I explain the idea behind these sites - the fact that there are two sides to the sites: The side that services readers and the side that services authors who want to promote their books. Amazon is an example of a site where an author can pay for advertising for their books and also use the site as reader/customer. Bookbub is another such site. The companies use their database of readers (book buyers) to offer promotion opportunities for the book sellers - that means you! Two other easy to understand Book Bub deep dives are here and here. Enjoy this introduction to book promotion sites… it’s a huge topic with many companies vying for your book promotion dollars in slightly different ways. Another book promotion site that has become one of my favorites is written word media - ie. bargain booksy, free booksy. Mariah Fredericks, Bestselling Author of "The Wharton Plot" - The Secret To A Successful Book Launch and Much, Much More
Enjoy this interview as the generous, best-selling author, Mariah Fredericks illustrates by example how to be a successful novelist - her writing method. her research method, her love of writing - her NEED to do it - and graciously offering her time for a podcast interview with a fan!Best-selling author Mariah Fredericks released her 16th book, The Wharton Plot, in January 2024. I ripped through her latest, fabulous book that focuses on a true crime during the gilded age in NYC. The book is much more than that, though, it a behind the scenes look at the life of a famous American author, Edith Wharton - her broken marriage, her lover, her famous and not so famous friends, her career later in life, and her place as a famous woman in an age when women did not have careers. As usual, Fredericks seamlessly weaves all of the themes together in a fabulously written, engrossing and entertaining novel. Fredericks uses the backdrop of a real-life murder to introduce us to Wharton as she tries to solve the crime. The reader comes to understand Wharton on a deeper level. Fans of Age of Innocence, by Wharton, will love reading about its author behind the scenes. In the podcast, I ask if the audio book narrator of The Wharton Plot is the same as the narrator in the The Age of Innocence Movie (The narrator is NOT the same as you will hear. Wait ‘til you hear who it is).For more fabulous, posts and podcasts like this one, give a nod to Claudine’s work here by upgrading to a paid subscription to Get Your Book Seen and Sold. Thank you! Alexa Bigwarfe is CEO of Write, Publish, Sell and the host and creator of the Women in Publishing Summit, held virtually from March 6 to March 9 - tickets available at the early bird rate of $197. It is the 7th year of the annual summit and Alexa tells us how it works. I have heard the Summit described as “life-changing” for authors - it hits all the important book publishing and book marketing topics for authors at EVERY level. The upcoming, all virtual summit includes 40+ workshops in four tracks: beginner/intermediate authors, advanced authors, publishing professionals, and general - good for all authors & publishing pros! The low price of $197 is an early bird price that will change in early March, so grab it while you can. The great price point is available because Alexa has enlisted industry sponsors to support and participate in the Summit. At $197 for the early bird price, what do you have to lose? Alexa launched the Women in Publishing Summit in 2017 with the goal to create an environment that not only provides top-of-the-line training, but builds community for connections and creates a space to recognize the accomplishments of women in the publishing industry. In this podcast episode, Alexa explains how the summit works and how to get the most out of it, detailing the unique orientation program held before the summit that you simply don’t want to miss to make your participation more organized, simple, and productive. I can’t wait to hear how you all do and what you’ve learned. My favorite part of the interview was hearing Alexa speak so excitedly about this conference. Brian Jud, a special sales book marketing guru, has been a guest on the podcast previously. In THIS episode, he teaches a specific workshop on book promotion by using a special tool - he calls it bracketology - to help visual learners to narrow their book promotion focus on one or two things a quarter based on certain criteria. Is the "Attention Economy" Curtailing Your Creativity, Writers?
Hold on to your seat… or I should say, hold on to your technology instruments because after this podcast episode with Substacker, Author, J.E. Petersen, you may want to toss them out the window… or at least lay them aside for a while.Jordan Petersen, Substack writer “Dispatches from Inner Space,” and writing under J.E. Petersen, wrote a provocative (and subsequently viral) post titled: The Notebook Rule: How to Get Off The Digital Dope And Reclaim Your Humanity in early January 2024. Petersen’s post started as a report of sorts - a report on a challenge that he made to himself in his attempt to curtail his use on technology - the problem of technology addiction, how it permeates every aspect of our lives, the effect it has on our happiness, and the results of pulling away from it. Eye-opening and fascinating stuff. Lucky for us, Jordan is going to continue to report on his progress and promises another podcast interview on his progress. My favorite part of the interview is where Jordan explains how technology is ‘set up’ to eliminate ‘friction’ - fascinating stuff. As well, Jordan’s description of the very real change in his life, his creative work, and his outlook AFTER starting the notebook rule is riveting. Here is where to find Jordan’s writing on Substack, the novel he is currently writing and the short stories he has already written that are available for sale today.Jordan’s Substack: Writing as J.E. Best-Selling Author Mariah Fredericks on "The Lindbergh Nanny" And Her Latest, "The Wharton Plot")
What A Thrill to Interview Best-Selling Author, Mariah FredericksWe all get into reading funks from time to time. Recently, the best-selling author, Mariah Fredericks got me out of my reading funk with her book, The Lindbergh Nanny. (now available in paperback) In this podcast, Mariah Fredericks chats with me about her fabulous fiction based on true crime non-fiction. She “lets me go there” with questions about her meticulous research and her personal opinion on what happened to Charlie Lindbergh on that fateful night in Hopewell, New Jersey in March, 1932.Next, we chat about Mariah’s journey as a best selling author and her latest title, just released, this week!, The Wharton Plot. So exciting! We chat about how Mariah comes up with the ideas for her fiction novels based in fact and the thread that links them together. My favorite part of my interview with Mariah Fredericks is when she generously reveals her writing schedule - fiction writers who listen to the podcast and read the newsletter, pay close attention, I think you are going to love Mariah’s way of scheduling her day!Remember:If you like what you hear, give Get Your Book Seen and Sold podcast a Five star rating! Amazon Ads Explained By Expert For ALL Authors
I always joke when at a speaking gig by saying that if Coke a Cola has to advertise, so does every book author. One of the most popular ways to advertise a book is to take advantage of the offerings on one of the biggest online bookstores to ever exist - that, of course, is Amazon. But navigating the Amazon Ad placement process is intimidating, complicated, and can be costly. Who wants to waste their precious book budget or time on a strategy that even if implemented improperly will not yield results?Help is on the way. In this podcast, we interview an expert, April Cox, owner of self-publishing made simple to answer questions regarding Amazon ads. I start the podcast interview by asking if Amazon ads are “A Must” for the book marketer. April’s answer, “It is if you want to sell books on Amazon!”Well, you can’t get more honest than that, but April doesn’t leave us high and dry. April answers specific questions about Amazon Ads and shares information about two free, you tube how-to videos - one is hers (link below) and one is from Bryan Cohen - Google his Amazon Ad Challenge. Finally, more useful information, April unveils a brand course coming up that she has created - a Amazon ads workgroup - starting on February 5th - for 12 weeks - where a small group of authors will work with her one-on-one to learn, use, analyze and adjust amazon Ads in real time. To find out information about the upcoming 12 week interactive Amazon ad workgroup, you can contact April here… also, April will offer the recordings of the completed 12 week class for just $49 that you can learn from and watch at your leisure.Remember:If you like what you hear, consider giving Get Your Book Seen and Sold podcast a Five star rating! My left side curves inward. On my right, I have no waist; my right side goes straight up and down. My left shoulder is lower than my right, and my left hip is higher than the right hip. I am about two inches shorter than I would be if I didn’t have scoliosis, a side-to-side curvature of the spine. When I sit, I often feel like I am about to tip over to the left. My spine is curved into a C-shape between my shoulder blades so that no matter how straight I stand, I look like I am slouching. When I grew up in the 1950s, for some reason I have yet to understand, “having good posture” was a big deal. Perhaps because posture was so often discussed by the nuns who taught at my school, I thought that “good posture” was like having “good morals.” I stood as tall as I could, but by the time I was in eighth grade, my back was visibly curved. I felt inadequate and even guilty. I thought, surely, if I tried hard enough, I’d be able to stand up straight. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone said, “Don’t slouch, Linda.” Now that I’ve taught Sunday School myself, I feel some sympathy for those nuns. There isn’t much you can do to control forty squirming kids, but if they have “good posture,” the class looks somewhat orderly. And the 1950s, I recall, were very big on social orderliness. I’ve tried chiropractic and massage therapy to keep my muscles from stiffening up on one side of my body. I walk every day, and do stretching exercises, but I still feel out of balance much of the time. I start out each day off kilter, and move through the hours trying to straighten up. When I stretch out my left arm and leg in opposite directions as far as they will go, my cramped left side is extended for a few seconds of exquisite openness. Recently, I’ve begun to think of scoliosis as a metaphor for my life. I’ve struggled to please teachers, employers, parents, boyfriends, husbands, twisting myself into someone I can’t be. I hurt when I do this, because it’s not natural. And it never works. But when I stretch my Self, instead, the results are different. When I’m reaching for my personal goals—to be a good mother, wife, friend and writer—I feel my balance return. And the sense of relief, as I become more the woman I truly am, is simply grand. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to leave a review on the podcast here.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My latest book, co-authored with Julie Murkette, is available for sale NOW wherever you buy book and is YOUR publishing and book marketing resource. Authors! Critical Change to Amazon Categories
The categories you select on Amazon are critically important for your book to get a possible #1 ranking on Amazon in a particular category. As you can see in the pic above, Get Your Book Seen and Sold: The Essential Book Marketing and Publishing guide hit #1 in the ‘Writing Skill Reference” during its launch week. YOU want to make sure you select the right category to get your book seen and sold! Listen on….Amazon Changed Its Categories System. Here’s How To Make Sure Your Book Is Seen and Sold with Dave Chesson. In this podcast interview, Dave Chesson, The Kindlepreneur, specifically addresses the recent change to Amazon categories affecting Amazon KDP users, how it can affect your book’s ranking and what you can do to make sure your book’s sales do not suffer.I asked Dave about the recent change. Specifically, an author (or publisher) used to be able to select 10 categories to describe their books and find its readers. Today only three categories can be added. As well, because of the program changes that were made, some of the old categories in the system are not attached to anything, meaning that if your book still has that category attached to it, it will not be seen at all under that category. Dave calls these “unseen” categories, ghost categories. In the podcast, Dave explains what you can do to make sure your book’s categories are viable and how to use keyword phrases (you can still add 7) to bolster your book’s chances of being seen in the correct, competitive categories for your book’s potential buyers. We chat about Dave’s fabulous publisher rocket software and how it has been updated to help you navigate this most recent Amazon category change. At $97, Publisher Rocket is a bargain and a great tool to help you make sure your book’s placement on Amazon is the best it can be. I also recommend Dave’s online classes on How to Choose Keywords and How to Choose Categories (they are short and sweet) are update to reflected the Amazon category change as well. If interested, my first interview with Dave can be found at the link.Personal note: I have been reading, learning, and sharing from Mr Chesson’s Website, Kindlepreneur, for two year now. Dave is very successful in the word of self-publishing and continues to put out and create top notch, worth your time, content and software for all authors whether traditionally published or self-published. The Publisher Rocket link is an affiliate link. I am a proud owner of Publisher Rocket.Questions about Keywords & Categories Tutorials and Publisher Rocket SoftwareFeel free to ask me any questions in the comments or at [email protected] about any of the topics covered or more detail as to why I think Keywords & Categories tutorials and Publisher Rocket Software are valuable resources in your book marketing. Your Path To Publishing: Author/Teacher Susan Shapiro
I am so excited to share this podcast interview with Sue Shapiro. Sue is the author/co-author of 17 books and is a writing teacher. Her unique teaching method unites her students and their work directly with agents and editors. The agents and editors she invites to class are hungrily looking for content on particular genres. In this podcast interview, Sue describes these unique classes that she runs throughout the year and how they work. In many cases, students sell their work to the editors and make money that more than pays for the class! As well, other student’s ideas of essays turn into published books. One of her classes, a five week pitching editor’s class titled, New Instant Gratification Takes Too Long, starts on September 11. You can reach out to Sue directly at her email [email protected]’s excitement and authenticity is contagious. She shares why she continues to teach even after becoming an author several times over and why she loves writers. Listen in to learn examples of creative ways to tap into the publishing world. Another theme that you’ll notice that runs throughout the interview is the importance of authors remaining flexible. Sue shares her journey of trying many genres of writing before landing on her speciality - she has a new co-authored book releasing soon titled “American Shield.” The lesson of staying flexible and considering your written material in new and interesting ways is a valuable one. You can find Sue at her website and also on Instagram at @Profsue123.Sue is the Author of The Book Bible: How To Sell Your Manuscript - No Matter What Genre - Without Going Broke Or Insane and The Byline Bible: Get Published in Five Years. I am excited to read on them, report on them, and invite her back to chat with me on the Podcast about them. Sue’s experience in writing in several genres, she believes, has made a difference in her ability to help her writer-students. I can’t wait to read the examples in her books.
