Cherie Smirl - Empowering through One Love Tanzania
Since Cherie Smirl’s first volunteering experience in Tanzania in 2013, the failure of the Government’s education system to deliver has been a driving factor in her work to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty in the country. One Love Tanzania is dedicated to encouraging personal development goals, fostering self belief and promoting better classroom practice, all integral to bringing hope through Education…..better Education.Today, One Love Tanzania is financially responsible for the educational welfare of 8 individual children in a range of Government and Non Government schools and Technical vocations, Cherie’s long term students for 11 years now. Supporting a young Muslim boy from a desperately poor background to fulfil his dream to become a doctor, is a proud and immensely fulfilling current undertaking.Teaming with in country NGO’s opens doors to creative opportunities to impact young lives through a raft of vocational and recreational workshops…ranging from health and wellbeing to expressing themselves through art mediums.Through mentoring qualified young, but yet to be employed, local teachers and financially supporting them to volunteer in poorly staffed schools creates opportunities to improve classroom practices in an education system hamstrung by over sized classes, poor resources and outdated curriculum. Positive changes are seen daily in both teacher and student attitudes. One Love Tanzania is a huge advocate for self-growth through entrepreneurialism and especially liaises with skilled women artisans in the country to develop jewellery, small homewares and artworks to appeal on the Australian market. Providing both an ethical fund base for the NFP, and encouraging a sustainable income for women incredibly skilled at their craft, but with little knowledge of converting that craft to a worthwhile livelihood. One Love Tanzania has been collaborating with the children from Tumaini for Africa Children’s Centre for 11 years to improve living conditions at the centre through the sale of their handicrafts. Guided by the Mamas at the centre and influenced by their tribal background, the children create sophisticated beaded jewellery pieces in the knowledge they are actively enhancing their own futures.SocialsWebsite: www.OneLoveTanzania.comFB: One Love Tanzania Insta: One Love Tanzania @one_love_tanzania_ Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Lauren Murphy - Capturing the gold in emotive moments
Let’s just start this with a confession. I’m deeply in love with photography. And this love affair started young, as a kid growing up in a small regional town in Victoria. I used to pour over the pictures in the National Geographic—those photos were my window to the wider world. They showed me the power of a single image to connect people across cultures, continents and time.My fascination with images grew after my grandparents lost everything, photo albums included, in the Ash Wednesday bushfire. It was such a huge loss, and growing up without access to those family stories made me realise how important photography is to engage us with our history. Since then, I’ve felt a deep responsibility to document our stories so nothing is forgotten. This eventually led me to found Lauren Murphy Photography in 2013 while also working as the staff photographer at the Warragul and Drouin Gazette. Eight years later, it’s a busy photography studio specialising in compelling, authentic portrait and documentary-style imagery for people and brands across Melbourne, the Gippsland and Warragul region, and beyond. While I’ve had a camera attached to my hip in some form or another since high school, I also credit my time as a social worker supporting the refugee community for five years (along with my full-time role as a mother) for informing the way I approach my photography clients every day—with compassion, empathy and a desire for honest connection. It matters to me that people feel truly themselves in their photos—empowered, confident and ready to tell their story. This pushes me to understand the real person, find the beauty in them and share it with the world. And what a gift that is! The first day I launched my business it was vital for me to have my values ingrained in what I do. I will always welcome people of any age, gender, sexual identity, and cultural background. Our world is made beautiful by diversity, the more we can embrace it the better.I also wish to acknowledge the current Elders in my local community and thank them for being able to follow my dreams on the tribal lands of the Bratowoloong people. I pay my respects to their Elders both past and present and look forward to potential collaborations with the Kurnai community. My studio is not just for me, it’s grown into much bigger things with the MAST.SocialsWebsite: https://www.laurenmurphyphotography.com.au/LinkedIn: Lauren Murphy FB: Lauren Murphy PhotographyInsta: Lauren Murphy Photography @laurenmurphyphotographyEnjoy the visual here on Youtube

Audra Agen - Bringing women to the arena
Audra Agen is the Founder, Host and Chief Inspiration Officer of the ‘Women in the Arena’ Podcast. As a corporate veteran, Audra has 25 years’ experience of being one of the few women in the room, and in many cases, the only one. While the women may have been outnumbered, they were all uniquely exceptional. She became fascinated learning more about them and their experiences. It became increasingly clear that these women were contributing significant value to their organizations, families and careers. Their contributions were either being taken for granted or overlooked, sometimes even by themselves. Audra aspired to change that; from that, Women in the Arena was created. Kerryn Vaughan - Switching guilt for rest
It’s amazing how often we feel guilty about something and we let it consume us. It’s even worse when you’ve created a narrative in your own mind about letting people down and not living up to the expectations of others. Yes, I teach this stuff, but yet I am human. Sometimes it’s absolutely OK to put your own needs first and fill up YOUR cup in order to serve more people. If only we could remember that more often!

Kerryn Vaughan - Drawing the line
It seems we’re always quick to judge or blame others, and just as quick to sit in denial or to justify our position. Often even when we know were are in the wrong! But how often are we accountable for our words and actions? And do we take responsibility for things that need to sit with us? What about owning up when we make a mistake. The latter are all things that sit above the metaphorical line, and being above the line helps us to perform better and build stronger relationships. But is it OK to go below the line?

Kerryn Vaughan - Finding happiness in a box
Happiness is that elusive thing we all chase, but what does it actually mean? What if we replaced that never-ending search with celebration and seeking moments of joy. Those things that bring us energy, put a smile on our dial, and fill our cups. What then, are we doing that is compromising our happiness and our opportunity to find those moments of joy, and can we do more of the things that are contributing to our wellbeing?Mention:Sam Horn

Kerryn Vaughan - Identity and authenticity
What if we could live our lives for ourselves, and not living to please the expectations of others? Do we even know what that would look like? The number one regret of the dying, according to author Bronnie Ware, is “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me”. When we know what we stand for and what values drive us, we have more confidence to stand in our space and assert and manage our own lives the way we want it to be. Ultimately we want to go to bed at night and sleep with ourselves and like who we are. This level of peace can only be found through authenticity and the courage to truly be ourselves.

Kerryn Vaughan - Exploring emotions
We all have emotions and they are actually a great thing. Emotions are often labelled positive and negative because of the way they make us feel, but all emotions serve a wonderful purpose - to motivate us to take action to avoid or gain. All emotions come with a physical sensation, thoughts, and a behaviour. When we get an emotional charge, we can choose to suppress, react or respond. The good news is, we always have the choice.

Kerryn Vaughan - Challenging the fear of failure
Fear of failure is a very real thing and impacts almost all of us. But what if we pushed past that fear and took a risk to do something important to us? That’s where growth lives, and satisfaction, and confidence. We allow our beliefs and past experiences to determine what we try into the future and so many incredible dreams are never brought to life because of that fear. We miss grand opportunities and can end up chronically sick simply because we allow fear to paralyse us. But what if we put one foot in front of the other and tip toed in to see if we might actually succeed?

Kerryn Vaughan - Zen outside of the comfort zone
This week my partner and I went to Metung Hot Springs. We booked it couple of months ago thinking it would be great to go in winter as the outside temperature would be freezing but it would be lovely and warm in the hot pools. However, we didn’t take into account that it might bucket down rain, because it is winter, and that we might actually decide to sit in the car at Metung, chomping on a pie while watching the pelicans rather than immerse ourselves in the geo-thermal pools. What we needed was a big attitude change and a different story to tell ourselves.

Kerryn Vaughan - Just behave yourself
Challenging behaviour is something we all face, not only due to another person’s behaviour, but also our own. None of us are perfect and we all produce triggers that set off other people’s hot buttons. But what’s under the behaviour? Before we go judging and criticising others, and pointing our fingers at them believing we are in the right and they are dysfunctional, maybe we need to understand what drives behaviour and how our own interpretations and perspectives assist us, rightly or wrongly, in determining if a behaviour os good or bad. Some great tips in this one as well as an empathy activity at the end.

Kerryn Vaughan - Setting boundaries around self-love
Self-love is really hard for so many. But where do we start, and how can we start with something that is achievable and believable? Because if deep down we don’t believe we deserve it, we struggle to attain it. And what about affirmations? Do they work? Starting with setting boundaries is something most people can do and it can work.

Simon Rinne - Connecting mindful men
For over 30 years, Simon Rinne survived mental illness. Undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, and Anxiety saw him turn from happy-go-lucky kid to dependent on alcohol to feel "normal". A parental break-up saw him become "the man of the house" - and this is where things turned dark.Social norms that tell boys and men to "suck it up" kept me quiet... and in that quiet, Simon’s mind turned to suicidal thoughts. But he survived and after 20 years of suffering in silence, he finally reached out for help in 2012. Simon was diagnosed, and started seeing a therapist. However, Simon expected the therapist to wave a magic wand and cure him. That didn't happen, so Simon kept doing what he was doing. It wasn't until Simon became a dad that he started to reflect on how he was showing up. 1 year later, he burned out. This is where Simon discovered mindfulness, and started to turn from survivor to thriver.Simon is now 40 years old, sober, and using his pain to fuel his passion - talking about mental health! Not only does he love to talk about it, but he designed his therapy business around making therapy easy for men who really struggle to open up.Simon has also completed a Masters Degree in Social Work and established Mindful Men - a therapy business and global movement encouraging men to men to adopt mindful living, combat the stigma around mental health, and lower alarming rates of domestic violence and suicide.Socials:Website: www.mindful-men.com.auMindful Men Podcast LinkedIn: Simon Rinne FB: Mindful Men Insta: Simon@Mindful Men @mindful.men.aus Youtube: Mindful Men Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Football has also taken Leigh across the country playing in 3 different state leagues. However, Leigh's passion for the game has come at a cost. Over a span of 20 years, he endured more than 40 concussions, including a severe incident in the VFL where he was knocked unconscious and suffered a brain bleed. These repeated head injuries have led to Leigh being diagnosed with CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy.Despite the challenges he faces, Leigh has chosen to use his experience to raise awareness about CTE. Leigh is also on a mission to help implement concussion protocols in regional leagues and has embarked on a campaign to educate others of the signs to lookout for with your loved ones after receiving head trauma. Leigh will be running a marathon on the Gold Coast to raise funds for The Concussion Legacy Foundation, where he also serves on the board. Leigh's determination to show that it is possible to lead a fulfilling life with CTE is truly inspiring.Socials:Leigh Michelle McDonald Mention:The Concussion Legacy Foundation Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Kerryn Vaughan - Cruise ship magic, musings and mayhem
I went on a cruise ship around 40 years ago and hated it. Everybody on board had gastro, the flu, or sea sickness. I had the latter and needed an injection to ease the vomiting and nausea. But, it doesn’t end there or end well. I had an allergic reaction to the vaccine and blew up in huge red welts all over my body. I was not interested in sunning myself on the deck, or gracing the beaches of the pacific islands. Instead, I waited patiently to dock at each new port, and armed with a video recorder the size of a TV news camera, I ran solo to explore the undiscovered distant region of the island while fancying myself as a roving reporter.I vowed never to sail the high sea again.Fast forward to 2023, my partner says “I booked us on a family cruise”. My worst nightmare come true! However, I decided to put all my past negative grumblings behind me and give it a go. Have I changed my mind? You’ll have to take a listen…

Tommy Burke - Not just sunglasses & autographs
A graduate of Boston College, Burke started out in television as a production Assistant while working other odd jobs, from bar bouncer, golf caddy to factory assemblyman, to sustain the meager TV industry income. His height and physical build came in handy, scoring him a gig loading grip trucks for Powerhouse Films, which further exposed him to commercials and films in and around the New England area. He soon became the ‘go to’ guy of Production Assistants in Boston, working every motion picture produced in Massachusetts. After a move to Los Angeles in 1990, Burke quickly moved up the production ranks, working as First Assistant Director on an independent film with Johnny Depp. Nicknamed “the Irish Bull” by his west coast colleagues, Burke went on to secure Assistant Director credits including, Jerry Bruckheimer’s acclaimed TV series Skin, Close to Home, CSI Miami, and the pilot for Desperate Housewives. He spent his last five years on Chicago PD. In 2003, Burke was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Three years of doctor visits, nine operations and chemotherapy treatments were all included in part of his rigorous 14-hour shoot day routine. To no surprise, given his well known tenacity, Burke conquered the disease into remission mostly by himself. The experience empowered him to take inventory of his life, specifically his trade, leading him to approach his career from an alternative perspective that was better aligned with his personal values. Best known in the industry for his talent, perseverance and respectful collaboration with colleagues on all levels.Socials:Website: https://tommyburke.com/LinkedIn: Tommy Burke Insta: Tommy Burke @tommy_burke_dga Podcast: Not Just Sunglasses & Autographs podcast Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Kerryn Vaughan - Real men cry
For way too long, toxic masculinity has run rife. Men have been taught to be tough, not to cry, don’t show emotions and all the other damaging rhetoric. They’ve also been subjected to abuse and put downs for showing signs of kindness and warmth. This has to stop. The four men I talk about in this episode are indeed putting a stop to the harmful narrative that causes many men to self-loath and in some cases, take their own life. Mark MacManus, Matt Ferguson, Leigh McDonald and Steven Baker aren’t afraid to cry, and are actively sharing their stories in an effort to support men and others to ask for help and believe in themselves. Essentially they want people to know they are ok just the way they are.Socials:The Restoration Project https://www.facebook.com/restorationgippsland/Build Grit with Steven Bakerhttps://www.facebook.com/buildGRIThttps://www.buildgrit.com.au/Matthew Fergusonhttps://www.instagram.com/mattyferg21/?hl=enChronic Traumatic EncephalopathyAccording to the Boston University CTE Center, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. Amy Loughren - From catching a killer nurse to spiritual healing
Up until 2003, I was a lazy Buddhist and a Trauma/ ICU/ ER Nurse who inconsistently meditated, read the occasional self help book, and was too overworked to recognize or remember my gifts. I was a single Mom, exhausted, and not seeking anything remotely resembling the metaphysical except maybe a good night's sleep with a prophetic dream. Abruptly, on a random Tuesday, everything changed. In October 2003 I found out my closest friend at work was murdering people. This was a true friend I confided in, shared secrets with, and trusted with my life. I adored him. After I helped the Detectives from the New Jersey Prosecution put him behind bars, I set out on a magical path to answer my scariest question:How the hell could I love someone so dark? The journey down the Rabbit Hole to that answer brought me face-to-face with spiritual gurus, energy healers, visionaries, and real-life, spontaneously awakened, modern day Buddhas. I read book after book and took every workshop I could find. I had set out to heal myself and in that process, I had many Spiritually Transformative Events. I also was shown my own gifts, my own team of Spirit Guides, and surprising intuitive abilities which I effortlessly access every. single. moment. of. every. day. I now have created a life filled with abundance, exotic travels, and beautiful relationships. My amazingly full and adventurous life was created through a deep understanding of this Matrix we live in. I DID receive and answer to my question, and it was surprisingly beautiful and simple. The answer appeared loudly during an energy healing session.“Without being inspired by the intense darkness, I would not have been open to receiving all that this physical/spiritual Realm had to offer me.”‘The darkness in him was also in me and it was leading me to the light within this world.’I am now a Reiki Master, a Hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner, Meditation Instructor, DreamSculptor Practitioner, Reconnective Healer, Integrative Energy Healer, Past Life Regressionist, Crystal Language Reader, Medical Intuitive, and learned "The Work" from Byron Katie. Pulling from dozens of different learned modalities and my own special access to the other Realms, I now help others develop a unique Guidance Plan for deeper connections. Kerryn Vaughan - The importance of time out
Time out is critical. It’s way too easy to hustle and grind and think we have to live up to the expectations of other people. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can succeed and achieve amazing things, even if you take the time to rejuvenate and take care of yourself. It’s that old oxygen mask analogy in play here. Put yours on first or you won’t be able to help anybody else.

Kerryn Vaughan - Rethinking Rats
Let’s rethink rats. There are still around 110 million active landmines around the world, and detecting and destroying them is not a cheap or easy process, partly due to the weight and inefficiency of humans. Rats on the other hand, are extremely efficient at detecting landmines and other explosives and are being used around the world to help return land to local communities. The organisation leading the way with rats is APOPO. Not only can the rats detect TNT, they are also used to detect tuberculosis and are now being trained for search and rescue, to detect people trapped under rubble.

Jaimi Magyari - Songwriting with a healing twist
Anishinaabe, Music composer, Multi-MusicianGrowing up in a musical household, Jaimi was singing before she was talking; and it was only a matter of time before she picked up an instrument of her own. At the age of four, her father brought home a mini keyboard, and she immediately started training her ear and taught herself how to play. When she was 12, Jaimi had asked to learn how to play guitar as well. As she grew older, she taught herself how to play more instruments, and write music. One late night out, Jaimi was at a concert with one of her friends who was going through a rough time with her partner at the time. Her friend told her that she felt like the villain because her partner kept playing the victim card all the time, and said she was tired of it and SHE wanted to be the victim for once when she ends the relationship. Jaimi thought about it, and said that she didn’t have to settle for being either the villain OR the victim, she could be her own hero. A couple days later, thinking about this conversation, Jaimi sat at her piano and wrote a song for her friend, saying exactly that. Just a few weeks later, her friend ended her relationship with her toxic partner, and is now in a better place. This experience planted the idea that Jaimi could actually HELP people with her music in her mind, she just couldn’t quite figure out how. She and her husband attended a seminar called The Hero Round Table later that year, which included a workshop tailored towards using your talents to help people. Filling out the worksheet, an idea was formed. Jaimi was always able to write her own music to heal her own heartbreaks and celebrate her triumphs. While her friends had popular songs written by other well known artists they had connected to in their own battles, they couldn’t write their own music. But… What if Jaimi could write songs for them? Finally, it clicked. This workshop helped form the idea that people could come to Jaimi with their own struggles to get a different perspective, to help them heal their hearts, to help them get closure, through a song tailored specifically to them. Jaimi could take their thoughts, feelings, and any phrases or questions they might have and write them a song. It’s still new, and Jaimi is still putting everything together so she is able to make this dream into a reality, but steps are being taken every day to make this happen. There is currently a portfolio being put together while Jaimi is learning the software so there can be examples of how she uses her music to help heal the hearts of people who are struggling. Kerryn Vaughan - Gratitude and compassion at Christmas
Let’s slow down a little over this holiday break and consider the things and people we have around us to be grateful for. It’s a stressful time and people do and say some pretty ordinary things due to these conditions. We don’t have to push and shove and place huge expectations on each other. We can choose to slow down, reflect, and extend love and compassion to ourselves and those around us.

Kerryn Vaughan - The power of one idea
In this episode, I talk about the power of one idea, and how that one idea can change lives. The problem is, we often give up on our ideas because we fear failure, rejection or criticism. Also in this episode I introduce two amazing young men who are actually saving lives through their ideas. One, Heman Bekele, has invented a soap that has the power top heal melanoma, and is accessible to all. The other, Jack Andraka who was featured in my book ‘Magnificent Kids’. Jack invented a pancreatic test strip, extremely cheap and far more accurate than the regular test methods. What’s your idea?

Megan Munckhof - Cleaning up with Lead n Hand
Megan Munckhof is the co-founder of Lead n Hand, and product for keeping ropes and leads looped perfectly without the tangles. The idea of Lead n Hand was dreamt up many years ago by Megan’s Dad (Darcy White) who is a farmer and contractor in Queensland. It came about due to a need to tidy up his service vehicle and to provide a storage for all his leads and hoses. The issue of tangled ropes and cords is a problem a lot of people have, and this is what drove him to find a solution. The handheld device is secured to your cord, hose, rope etc on one end so you will always have it handy. The size of your loops depends on the length of your cord and where you wish to store it. The ergonomic shape is suited to both left and right handers and many different sized cords etc. You simply just click your item into the Lead n Hand and keep it secure for storage. Darcy started by making a prototype in his shed then advanced to the family kitchen, where he heated up the plastic to mould it into shape. The family toyed with many ideas about how to over engineer it, but then simplified the shape and functions to what exists today. Megan and Darcy have gone through the process of Patenting, trademarking, and securing the design in many different countries. This has taken a long time but has been well supported by a fantastic team. Lead n Hand is an all Australian made and owned product registered with the Australian Made Campaign.Lead n Hand is very new to the market but has already received great feedback and fantastic ideas about how others are using the product for their own application, from electric car/bus leads to people with disabilities with limited hand mobility. Megan and Darcy are excited to see the growth of Lead n Hand, and hope that people will love it as much as they do. In this episode, kindness is the focus. I always wonder why we need specific International Days for particular things, and wonder why we can’t be decent human beings every day of the year. Despite my personal thoughts, November 13th is International Kindness Day, and that should extend to self, others, animals and the planet. By the way, kindness has scientifically proven health benefits, so why wouldn’t be practise it?

Kerryn Vaughan - Time travelling 200 years into the future
In this episode I ponder the answer to the question “What question would you like to ask a time traveller from 200 years in the future?”. Firstly, I’d be surprised that humans still exist at that time! But I’d be curious about what solutions humans found to resolve problems. I’d also want to know what I could do better today to contribute to a better world in the future.
