Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 68: 'I'm A Virgo' FuseFX VFX Supervisor Jamie Barty Interview

We are back with a new episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. This week, I'm chatting with Jamie Barty, VFX Supervisor at FuseFX, about his work on various projects, including Prime Video's wonderfully weird 'I'm A Virgo'.British-born, but based in Fuse’s Canada office, Jamie has worked on a huge array of shows for the company, including ‘The Orville’, ‘Fort Salem’, ‘La Brea’, ’Snowpiercer’ and ‘Upload’, some of which we delve into during the interview. However, we begin by chatting about his more recent project, ‘I’m A Virgo’, which is available now on Prime Video. From director Boots Riley, ‘I’m A Virgo’ is a fantastical coming-of-age story of a 13-foot-tall man, Cootie, who is hidden in Oakland, CA, but escapes to experience the world. On his journey, he forms friendships, finds love, encounters awkward situations, and so much more. The series stars Jharrel Jerome as Cootie, Brett Gray, Mike Epps and more.FuseFX collaborated closely with Boots to create the alternative reality of Cootie. The team implemented many in-camera and VFX tricks to give Cootie his impressive 13-ft tall stature, including miniatures, puppets, full digi-double characters, CG props, shrinking of other characters, and camera/compositing trickery. The team strived to achieve a realistic blend of practical in-camera effects with CG and digital compositing.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Hosted on Acast. Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 66: 'The Last Of Us' Production Designer John Paino Interview

We are back with a new episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. For this episode, we've teamed up with Matt from Entertainment Talk, and my 'World Of The Last Of Us' podcast co-host, as we're chatting with John Paino, the production designer on HBO’s fantastic adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game 'The Last of Us'.The Last of Us’ takes place 20 years after modern civilization’s destruction. Joel (Pedro Pascal – ‘The Mandalorian’), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey – ‘Game Of Thrones’), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.John Paino is a highly experienced production designer, having previously worked on tv shows such as 'The Leftovers', 'Sharp Objects', 'Big Little Lies', 'The Morning Show', and 'The Shrink Nextdoor', along with films such as 'Dallas Buyers Club' and 'Margin Call'. However, 'The Last Of Us' presented him with a whole new set of extraordinary challenges. From houses and restaurants to malls and infrastructure, John was tasked with recreating dozens of post-apocalyptic sets completely from scratch. By relying on physical structures instead of visual effects, John managed to fully immerse actors and viewers into the world of the fan-favourite game.I think it's fair to say, John's work has paid off. The reaction to the series has been both a critical and rating success on both sides of the Atlantic. In the UK, it was the biggest audience ever for a first-series US drama finale on Sky. In the US, the audience has grown week-on-week, with the finale up a staggering 74% on the premiere episode. This series also has been praised by critics and fans across the board.'The Last Of Us' Season 1 can be found via Sky On Demand and the NOW streaming service in the UK, and on HBO Max in the USA. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date. Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 65: 'Outer Banks' Season 3 VFX Supervisor Art Codron From FuseFX Interview

We are back with new episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. This week I’m chatting with Art Codron, the VFX supervisor for FuseFX on the third season of Netflix’s 'Outer Banks'.Art Codron is a three-time Emmy Award winner, who has worked on shows such as ‘Ozark’, ‘Prison Break’, and ’The Morning Show’, along with his other current show, ‘The Rookie’. Whilst these days he tends to lean more into shows with more “invisible effects”, he began his VFX career working on the ’Star Trek’ franchise, beginning on ‘The Next Generation’ and ‘Deep Space Nine’, then becoming a VFX supervisor on ‘Voyager’ and ‘Enterprise’.‘Outer Banks’ is a wonderfully fun action-adventure series which follows teen John B (Chase Stokes), who enlists his three best friends to hunt for a legendary treasure linked to his father's disappearance. The series also stars Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Austin North (Topper), Drew Starkey (Rafe), Carlacia Grant (Cleo) and Charles Esten (Ward Cameron) with Cullen Moss (Shoupe), Julia Antonelli (Wheezie Cameron), Caroline Arapoglou (Rose Cameron), E. Roger Mitchell (Heyward), Charles Halford (Big John), Elizabeth Mitchell (Limbrey), and Andy McQueen (Carlos Singh). The most recent third season saw the gang chase the gold to the Caribbean and South American, which created some interesting challenges for the VFX team. These included a plane crash into the ocean and a shot of a whale, which involved complex water simulations and physics. They also had to create the gold-laden caves of El Dorado, enhancing the shots with composition and CG, along with painting out all manner of production equipment.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown.
