Joe Bouchard - Blue Oyster Cult
Joe Bouchard was a founding member of the band Blue Oyster Cult, which had a huge hit with “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”. That song later had a second life after it was featured in the iconic ‘More Cowbell’ skit on Saturday Night Live in 2000 featuring Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. In the second half of the show Joe and Robert do a Songfest featuring three of BOC’s most famous songs. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Life can be full of surprises. Think about how SNL - out of the blue - did a skit featuring “The Reaper” which sent Blue Oyster Cult into orbit, and then Metallica covered Joe’s song “Astronomy” and sold 5 million copies. You could never have predicted these life changing events. So keep doing what you love and do it well. You never know what’s going to happen in life.Robert’s featured song in this episode is “New York City Groove” from Project Grand Slam’s album Made In New York. Robert chose this song because Joe and his brother Albert - two of the founders of BOC - were from upstate New York and the band got its start at Stony Brook, NY, and the song is about NYC -- which Robert felt was close enough!Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/track/2ZAjjjTSaQ6UbuVhjIzefO?si=QLFINJtpQuiKbfXwIAbQAA---------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. Special Episode: Six Month Recap
In just six months since its launch in March 2021 the Follow Your Dream podcast has 38 episodes, a Top 5% ranking, many thousands of downloads from dozens of countries, VIP guests from various walks of life including musicians, broadcasters, authors, dancers, actors and more, Bonus Music Episodes, and Songfests. Stick with us - so much more to come!I wasn’t completely sure where things would go when I started the podcast. I knew that I wanted to help people pursue their dream, and combine that with my music which is the manifestation of my dream. But the exact dynamics were going to be more like a work in progress.I called upon 4 friends as my initial guests, including “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, America’s most famous radio personality, who was my first guest. The podcast has developed tremendously. So many fantastic guests - musicians, broadcasters, authors, dancers, actors. Such interesting and successful people. Wonderful examples of people who followed their dream to success.I’m proud to say that the podcast entered the Top 5% of all podcasts several months ago - and we’re still climbing. Many thousands of downloads so far from dozens of countries.I started this podcast to help all of the dreamers out there to pursue and succeed at their dream, whatever it might be, just as I followed and succeeded at my music dream.I believe that Everyone has a dream, and they come in all different shapes and sizes. It could be to learn a new skill, start a new hobby, open up a business, or change jobs. When we’re young our dreams are usually big, like becoming a scientist, a ball player, the president, or maybe even a Rock Star. But most people never wind up pursuing their youthful dream because life gets in the way. Marriage, kids, job, obligations, debt. You wake up one day and realize that your dream has gone away - and you’re full of regret. That’s what happened to me too. My youthful music dream got away from me - not just for years but for decades - until finally, when I was in my 60s, I realized that it was now or never. I did not want to look back at the end of my life and regret that I never even took the shot. So I jumped into the deep end of the pool. And for me it was the best decision I ever made. Here I am 5 or 6 years later and I’ve got 10 celebrated albums including a Billboard #1, over 4mm video views, over a million Spotify streams, over 50,000 FB fans, I’ve played festivals and concerts around the world, and I’ve had appearances with Edgar Winter, Blues Traveler, Boney James and Mindi Abair. How did I do it? And how can you follow and succeed at your dream?I believe that the answer lies in creating an Action Plan consisting of baby steps. If you think of your dream in its entirety - from A to Z - you may be intimidated that it’s too big a leap. But if you break it down and look at it as a baby step from A to B and then another baby step from B to C, and so on, it becomes manageable. All of my podcast guests have had one thing in common - they followed their dream and are successful at what they do. And I ask them for their advice to the dreamers out there. People who have never pursued their dream, or where they tried but haven’t yet been successful.Their advice is remarkably consistent across all occupations. Try. Stick to it. Never give up. Persistence. Hard work. Don’t let anyone or any comment get you down or dissuade you.And keep in mind that success is not the goal. The goal is trying. To take your best shot. To never wake up at any point in your life and say that you regret not giving your dream a chance. Success is just the icing on the cake. As the saying goes, it’s the journey not the destination. So keep listening to this podcast, and tell your friends about it too. Each week I hope to inspire and motivate you. And I do things here that no other podcast does - like Bonus Music Episodes and Songfests with my musical guests. And pick up a copy of my new book, The Follow Your Dream Handbook. It’s an extension of this podcast and a combination memoir of my music journey and a step by step how-to. It will show you the way. Just go to Amazon and enter Follow Your Dream Handbook by Robert Miller in the search bar, or click here. https://amzn.to/3y2jp7p So thanks for a great first 6 months. Mark Stein - Vanilla Fudge
Mark Stein is one of the founding members of the Vanilla Fudge, one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s. He played organ and sang lead on one of the best rock songs ever recorded, the Fudge’s version of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”. Mark and I have a ball talking about how the Fudge came to be, their music, their appearance on Ed Sullivan, his love of The Rascals and Leslie West and the Vagrants, and what it was like to be right smack in the middle of the musical, cultural and fashion revolution of the 1960s. Then of course we do a Songfest where we play and talk about some great Fudge tunes. A totally psychedelicly delicious episode! In the second half of the show Mark and Robert do a Songfest focusing on 4 of the great songs recorded by the Fudge. KEY TAKEAWAYS: If something is what you really want in the deepest part of your soul then you must persevere with your blood and guts. Go after it. Never give up. Believe in yourself.Robert’s featured song in this episode is his reimagined version of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” from Project Grand Slam’s album The Queen’s Carnival. Bonus Music Episode #4 - "To The Zoo!"
Robert is releasing the songs on his new album, Miller Rocks, in a completely novel way: each in a separate Bonus Music Episode. This 4th episode’s song, “To The Zoo!”, is very different from all the other songs on the album. It’s a children’s song - about a fun filled, imaginary visit to the zoo. Robert wrote it for his grandchildren. Think of it as an updated version of Paul Simon’s 1968 song, “At The Zoo”.The reviews of “To The Zoo!” have been so heartwarming. Indie Shark calls it “joyous” and a “standout”. Hollywood Digest calls it “immensely refreshing”. Indie Music Reviews says its got an “early Beach Boys sound”. And Daily Dose Report says it has “so much playful energy and works on a universal level”.If you have young children or grandchildren play them “To The Zoo!”. It will bring a smile to their faces. Robert’s featured song in this episode is “I’m So Glad”, Robert’s reimagined version of the iconic Cream hit recorded live by Project Grand Slam on the band’s 2019 album Greetings From Serbia. Bonus Music Episode #3 - "The Birds"/"My Baby"
Since it’s baseball season Robert is offering a doubleheader in this 3rd Bonus Music Episode - releasing two songs from his new album, Miller Rocks: “The Birds” and “My Baby”. “The Birds” has a definite 1960s kind of vibe. On the surface it’s about how the birds fly away in winter and then return in the spring, but it’s really about the emotional ties that bind us to our loved ones. “My Baby”, on the other hand, is a rollicking, piano driven, 1950s-ish number about a guy who’s head-over-heels in love with his girl. Reviews of “The Birds”:“Album standout ‘The Birds’ is reminiscent of a George Harrison-style melody off of a mid-career Beatles album!” (Medium)“‘The Birds’ emphasizes Miller’s incredibly soothing voice as he sings about letting the bad times go in favor of a better time spent with someone who cares about you!” (Vents Magazine)“A sunny day sound mixed against the uncertainty of the future!” (Gashouse Radio) Reviews of “My Baby”:“A classy upper elite bouncy sounding winner!” (Vents Magazine)“A piano-led track with brass flourishes and a sax solo that will all but transport listeners to a hopping ’50s diner!” (Medium)“A swinging almost 50s inspired jam!” (Gashouse Radio)“The most overt and romantic song on the album!” (Daily Dose Report)“A beautiful track that feels entirely personal!” (Daily Pop News) Stream “The Birds” on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/4ECGMvwBAL9jCCzH1gH0d0?si=1lG2V7VbRrilMQ-FlGaLWg&dl_branch=1&nd=1Stream “My Baby” on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/529PLGPrKzua30e6ChHPeT?si=ResDiIZbT-2PBEYWa3jNew&dl_branch=1 SPECIAL OFFER! DC Glenn is half of Tag Team, the hip hop act that scored an enormous hit in 1992 with “WHOOMP! There It Is”. He started writing hip hop songs in the early 1990s. While DJ-ing in several clubs in Atlanta, he played Tag Team’s new song “WHOOMP! There It Is” and it got an enormous reaction. The song has an upbeat, positive message and became a dance favorite. WHOOMP subsequently was featured in a number of movies. Recently, the song and Tag Team were featured in a national commercial for GEICO in which the song was renamed “SCOOP! There It Is”. SPECIAL EPISODE: Tree Of Life - End Gun Violence
This is a SPECIAL EPISODE of the podcast. America has a serious, chronic problem - gun violence. Mass shootings have overwhelmed our country. In 2020 there were 614 mass shootings resulting in 446 deaths of which nearly 300 were children. As of March 31st of this year there have been another 126 mass shootings leaving 148 people dead. These are staggering numbers. It seems like every week we hear of another shooting in a school or at work. This podcast was created to inspire people to follow their dream. But there are literally thousands of Americans who will never be able to pursue their dream. They are the victims of gun violence and mass shootings. So this Special Episode of the podcast is dedicated to those Dreamers whose lives were needlessly ended by gun violence. The United States leads the world in gun violence and mass shootings. What a disgraceful record. As President Biden said recently, it is a national embarrassment.I wrote the song in this episode, called Tree Of Life, in October 2018. It was my reaction to the mass shooting that took place at the Tree Of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA where 11 people were senselessly slaughtered and another 6 wounded. I was hoping then that my song would be one more voice to our nation’s leaders urging them to finally take action against gun violence. But sadly, nothing has been done. When will gun violence end? When will mass shootings stop? As I said in my song, we must find a better way - today. So please pause to honor the memory of the gun violence victims, from the children of Sandy Hook and Parkland, to the concert goers in Las Vegas, to the Indiana FedEx employees, and all the others. Lives that were needlessly ended prematurely. Please contact your Congressional leaders. It’s their job to act to protect us. Tell them if they don’t act now to end gun violence you will vote them out of office. That’s the only message they seem to understand. Robert’s song in this episode: “Tree Of Life” from the album PGS 7 by Robert’s band, Project Grand Slam. It’s a spare, mournful song with only piano and voice. Piano: Baden Goyo.
