Dave & Chris
Dopey Podcast is the world’s greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy pathfinding the route to the heart of the opioid epidemic.

The Dopey Nation and the sense of community it has created can provide support and inspiration for those in recovery. It's important to be true to oneself and enjoy the journey rather than focusing solely on external success. While it's natural to experience moments of doubt or sadness, maintaining a positive mindset and connecting with others can help overcome these challenges. Addiction can have devastating consequences, leading to the loss of loved ones and personal struggles. Quitting one substance may be necessary to break the cycle of addiction and prevent further harm. Music can be a powerful outlet for expressing emotions and connecting with others. Forgiveness is an important part of the healing process, both for oneself and for others. Life is fragile, and it's important to appreciate the present moment and make choices that prioritize well-being. Spirituality can be accessed through various practices and beliefs, such as meditation, attending meetings, and living by spiritual principles. A higher power can be a person, nature, or the universe, and it can provide guidance and support in recovery. Being aware of and utilizing spirituality in moments of vulnerability can help bring ease and peace. Living a life centered around love, compassion, gratitude, and humility can contribute to a more spiritual existence. Musicians are encouraged to submit songs for the DopeyCon theme song contest. titles The Dopey Nation: A Community of Support and Inspiration Embracing the Journey: Finding Fulfillment in the Present Moment The Power of Forgiveness Embracing the Fragility of Life Calling for Musicians: DopeyCon Theme Song Contest Exploring Spirituality and Higher Power in Recovery Sound Bites "Every day when I wake up, I go, this is the greatest day." Anniversaries and milestones can be significant triggers for grief and reflection. Dopey Day is a holiday created to pay homage to those lost to addiction and celebrate those who are still fighting to stay alive. The Dopey Nation community provides support and connection for individuals navigating addiction and recovery. Visiting gravesites and engaging in activities that remind us of loved ones can be a way to feel connected and take care of their memory. Recognizing relapse in loved ones can be challenging, especially when they are intelligent and convincing. Losing a loved one to addiction can bring feelings of guilt and self-blame, but it's important to forgive yourself and recognize that the outcome was out of your control. It is not helpful or respectful to ask someone how they didn't know about their loved one's addiction. Each person's experience is unique, and blaming oneself or others does not change the outcome. Over time, the acute grief and self-questioning may fade, but it can resurface on certain days or during difficult moments. It's important to give yourself time and space to process these emotions. Seeing others move on with their lives can be bittersweet for those who have lost a loved one to addiction. It's a reminder of what could have been and can bring a mix of emotions, including hope and pain. Finding support from others who have experienced similar losses can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and provide a sense of understanding and connection. Engaging in acts of service and helping others can be a way to honor the memory of a loved one and find healing in the aftermath of loss. The new year may not hold significant meaning for everyone, and personal growth and change can happen at any time. Recovery from addiction is a challenging journey with ups and downs, and it's important to seek support and make a commitment to change. The 12-step program, while not perfect, can provide a supportive community and structure for recovery. The Dopey Nation community continues to honor and remember Chris and Annie, and their stories inspire others to stay strong in their own recovery journeys.
