This pledge became the guiding principle of her life. Her journey of service began in her own neighborhood, where she organized a block club to help her neighbors reclaim their streets from crime and build a safer, more united community. From those small beginnings, Toni went on to lead the Ravendale Community Network, working tirelessly to uplift her community and beyond. S6E38 -10,000 Acres of land and What to Do? Tepfirah Rushdan and Khary Frazier discuss

Detroit, once home to nearly 2 million residents due to a bustling industrial age, became a focal point for the deindustrialization of America. As the city's industrial base declined, Black leadership emerged, with figures like Coleman Young, Erma Henderson, Bill Becham, Fannie Peck, and George Crockett striving to manage a city under-resourced and neglected by both the American nation and the state of Michigan. This shift in leadership marked the beginning of an exodus of residents and raised a critical question, "What to do with Detroit's vacant land?" Tepfirah and I explore this question in this discussion. We discuss the Solar Farm initiative, supported by the executive administration, with Tepfirah speaking as the leader of the Office of Sustainability. Our conversation delves into topics such as forests, urban agriculture, and much more, offering a rich dialogue intended to provoke critical thought and analysis. S6E33 -Moudou Baqui's Journey: Civil Rights, Street Life, Black Independence & Healing in a Psychedelic

In the 1990s, Detroit had a profound impact on Moudou Baqui and his entire family. They had moved from Tennessee to escape racism and limited opportunities, eventually establishing roots in Detroit. The Petty family began to settle in Detroit when the land beyond 8 Mile Road was still farmland, owned and cultivated by them. This included the area where the Kroger at 8 Mile and Wyoming now stands, which was seized through eminent domain, resulting in the loss of 200 acres of farmland. Moudou's family history is a testament to Black independence and resilience in the face of the systemic challenges imposed by America. Moudou, born Jason Petty, has a story that intertwines civil rights, street life, Black liberation, African-centered education, and healing, reminiscent of a modern-day Forrest Gump.
