S2 Ep.159 From Vision to Reality: The Grit, Grace and Timeless Approach of Old Soul Design Studio with Krystal Reinhard

Episode Summary Hey, friends! It’s Michelle Lynne, and today on Design for the Creative Mind, I’m thrilled to introduce you to someone truly special—Krystal Reinhard, the CEO and principal designer of Old Soul Design Studio. Krystal and I go way back, connecting through my Interior Design Business Bakery, and we've had the joy of meeting in person several times. In this episode, we dive into Krystal's design-build journey, her unique aesthetic, and how her experiences have shaped her thriving business. Krystal’s business, Old Soul Design Studio, operates as a full-service design-build firm with a showroom in downtown West Chester, Pennsylvania. She shares how the firm has evolved over the years, shifting from a seven-day-a-week showroom to a more strategic hybrid model that accommodates both public and private spaces. It’s fascinating to hear how she balances a robust portfolio of renovation projects, furnishings, and showroom management with a committed focus on transparency and client education. We also talk about how her European heritage, coupled with her cross-country experiences, influences her design style. Krystal’s aesthetic beautifully marries West Coast Mediterranean vibes with the timeless charm of East Coast architecture. And yes, that passion for blending styles is a nod to her “old soul” nature—something people have called her since she was young. A big highlight of this episode is learning about the intentional way Krystal handles the design-to-build process. She explains why design comes first, followed by construction planning, which allows for better budget transparency and project execution. Her emphasis on creating a high-touch, tailored client experience stands out in an industry often riddled with miscommunications and unexpected costs. We also dive into her personal journey. Krystal shares how her upbringing as a first-generation American and her background in fine arts and education shaped her approach to design. She reflects on the challenges of being a woman on construction sites, the lessons learned from working with both great and not-so-great contractors, and how she’s built a team of craftspeople she trusts deeply. This conversation is brimming with insights—whether you're a homeowner planning a renovation, a designer building your business, or just someone who loves hearing about design journeys, you’re going to love this episode! Key Takeaways from Our Conversation Krystal’s Unique Aesthetic: From California’s Spanish-Mediterranean influences to the colonial charm of Pennsylvania, her work celebrates diverse architectural styles. The Design-Build Approach: Krystal walks us through her process of designing first, focusing on client needs, and then creating realistic construction budgets, ensuring a smooth and transparent experience. Empowering Women in the Industry: Krystal shares how she’s navigated construction sites with confidence and mentors her team to do the same. The Story Behind Old Soul: A reflection of her love for timeless design, cultural influences, and a belief in having "been here before." You’re going to leave this episode inspired by Krystal’s passion and practical wisdom. S2 Ep.158 Listener Q&A: Setting Boundaries with Your Clients to Protect Your Time with ML

S2 Ep.158 Listener Q&A: Setting Boundaries with Your Clients to Protect Your Time with ML

Hey y'all! Welcome back to Design for the Creative Mind! Today, I'm diving into a question that came straight from Instagram—thanks to Louise from Design in Ireland. She reached out with a great one: "How can interior designers set boundaries with flat-fee clients who sometimes get a bit too comfortable asking for extra time?" Here's a peek at what I cover in this solo episode: Sales Process Essentials: I break down my client process, from initial calls to meet-and-greets. It’s all about educating clients upfront on how we work and setting boundaries from day one. The Power of the Scope of Work: Having a detailed scope is everything. I'll share how we make sure our clients understand what's included—and what's not. This scope can also help clients understand why changes can lead to additional costs. Leveraging the Contract: I talk about using our Letter of Agreement (a friendly contract) to reinforce expectations. This doc lays out unique clauses, like only showing the best option for each item, limits on revisions, and the number of site visits included. Scheduling & Time Management: Pre-scheduling meetings has been a lifesaver for both my team and our clients. It keeps us on track and gives clients a sense of urgency without feeling rushed. Adding a Contract End Date: I explain why we include a project timeline so clients stay motivated, and so we have a framework if the project takes longer than expected. Tracking Data for Better Flat Fees: It's a must to track how much time each task really takes. I share how I use that data to refine our flat fees and ensure they work for us financially.   I hope this helps! And to anyone else with burning questions about the business of design, I'd love to hear from you. If you shoot over your questions, I'll either devote an episode to your topic or gather a few for a "What Would Michelle Do?" segment!   Thanks for listening, and remember to choose greatness every day!   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. S2 Ep.157 Building a Luxury Brand: Tips on How to Stand Out in a Saturated Market w/ Allison Handler

S2 Ep.157 Building a Luxury Brand: Tips on How to Stand Out in a Saturated Market w/ Allison Handler

Hey there, welcome back to the podcast! Today, I have an inspiring conversation for you with Allison Handler, the founder and principal designer of Allison Handler Design, based out of New Jersey. Allison's journey to interior design wasn't exactly traditional—she started in the world of fashion and merchandising in New York City.   She had a dream to be like the iconic Carrie Bradshaw, and she made it happen, working with major names like Donna Karen. But after 20 years, she found herself craving something more fulfilling, especially after getting a taste of work-from-home life during COVID.   Allison talks about how interior design organically found her through the homes she renovated with her family. Friends and family started asking for her help with their own spaces, and her design business quickly grew from creating mood boards on Etsy to her first full-home design project. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, though. Allison shares how she started out juggling her full-time job, family life, and her budding design business before finally taking the leap to go full-time with her own brand.   Key Highlights: Finding Your Niche Through Experience:  Allison discusses how she figured out her own style and brand by taking on any and every project early on, learning along the way, and eventually niching down to clients who resonate with her aesthetic.   The Power of Social Media:  Allison attributes much of her business’s growth to social media, especially Instagram. By putting herself and her personality out there, she attracted clients who connected with her vibe and style. She emphasizes that being real and authentic online is her "secret sauce."   Building Client Relationships: In this industry, hiring an interior designer is a very personal decision. Allison values the relationships she builds with clients, explaining that designers are often involved in deeply personal aspects of a home and life. These connections, she believes, are what set her apart in a crowded market.   Balancing Business and Creativity:  With her background in fashion merchandising, Allison brings a unique mix of creativity and business acumen to her design work. She shares insights into budgeting, planning, and even “cost-engineering” to give her clients a high-end look within their budgets, especially when working with builders on spec homes.   The Importance of Having a Team: While clients may want to work directly with her, Allison shares the value of her small but talented team. She emphasizes the importance of collaboration in design and how her team helps elevate the overall vision of each project.   Allison's story is a fantastic example of blending passion with business, and she’s a reminder that you can always reinvent yourself. If you’re considering a career pivot or dreaming of turning your passion into a business, you’ll love Allison's story and the practical advice she shares.   Thanks for joining me and Allison for this deep dive into the world of interior design. S2 Ep. 155 Tile Art with a Purpose with Beth Porter

S2 Ep. 155 Tile Art with a Purpose with Beth Porter

In this episode, I’m thrilled to introduce Beth Porter, an incredibly talented artist and co-owner of Wet Dog Tile Company. Beth shares her journey from a fine arts background to becoming a trailblazer in custom tile artistry.   Wet Dog Tile Company is known for its unique, multi-textural tile designs that go beyond traditional forms, incorporating mixed media, organic shapes, and, often, personal touches that make each project one-of-a-kind. Wet Dog creates tiles that defy typical geometric shapes—think starfish-shaped tiles rather than standard square tiles. The designs range from ocean-inspired themes to custom pet portraits and are crafted using a mix of ceramic, glass mosaics, crushed glass, and pebbles to add texture and color.   Beth shares how the company name was inspired by her involvement in animal rescue and living in a coastal town. What started as a hobby has grown into a full-fledged business, creating tiles for spaces all over the country.   Wet Dog Tile Company is not just about tile; it’s about creating deeply personal, artistic statements for any space. From custom pet portraits to unique textural designs, Beth’s approach makes each project a labor of love. Whether you're a homeowner or an interior designer, Wet Dog Tile offers something extraordinary to bring your vision to life.   Connect with Wet Dog Tile Company: Website: WetDogTile.com Instagram: @wetdogtile Facebook: Wet Dog Tile Company   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. 136. March Madness - Remembering Our Word of the Year

136. March Madness - Remembering Our Word of the Year

Hello, everyone! In this solo episode of Designed for the Creative Mind, I delve into the concept of having a "word of the year" and how it can guide and influence your personal and professional life.   I started contemplating my word of the year during the fourth quarter and honed in on it around Thanksgiving. Initially, I considered words like "mindful," "clarity," and "wisdom," but none felt quite right. I wanted a word that resonated with me on a deeper level, something that could act as a beacon for decision-making and personal growth.   After much reflection, I landed on the word "align." This word encapsulates my desire to make choices that resonate with how I want to feel and the direction I want my life and business to take. It's about ensuring that my actions are in harmony with my goals, beliefs, and desired feelings.   A recent personal example of putting this word into action was the decision to sell our house. Despite its uniqueness and the memories we've created there, the idea of selling felt aligned with my desire for a simpler, less burdensome living situation.   I encourage you to find your own word of the year, no matter what time of year it is. It's a powerful tool that can provide clarity and direction. And remember, it's okay to change your word if it no longer serves you.   I'd love to hear your word of the year, so feel free to drop me a DM on Instagram at @designedforthecreativemind And if you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review and joining our Facebook group, the Interior Designers Business Launchpad, for more business advice.   Until next time, keep striving for alignment in all that you do. 135. How to Become a Better Leader and Storyteller for Your Design Business

135. How to Become a Better Leader and Storyteller for Your Design Business

Welcome back to another episode of Design for the Creative Mind, where we dive into the essentials of running a purposeful and passionate interior design business. I'm your host, Michelle Lin, and today we had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Jude Charles, a master storyteller and documentary producer for entrepreneurs.   Jude has spent over 18 years crafting compelling narratives for clients like Google and Steve Harvey, and he's here to share his wisdom on the transformative power of storytelling in business. He's also the author of "Dramatic Demonstration," a guide that teaches entrepreneurs how to uncover and leverage their unique stories to grow their businesses.   In our conversation, Jude opened up about the importance of taking intentional breaks for personal reflection and growth. He shared his practice of taking two months off each year since 2013, which has allowed him to avoid burnout and maintain his creativity and passion for his work. Jude emphasized the clarity and insights that come from these periods of rest, which have led to the development of new offerings and a deeper understanding of what truly works in his business.   Jude also discussed the significance of vulnerability and authenticity in connecting with your audience. He believes that while every design is different, the process and the person behind the work should shine through. By sharing personal stories and the lessons learned from them, designers can differentiate themselves in a saturated market and attract clients who resonate with their unique perspective.   We delved into the practical aspects of storytelling, with Jude explaining how to identify the right stories to share and the importance of tying them back to your business values and mission. He also provided insights on how to balance personal sharing with professional boundaries, ensuring that your stories are relevant and impactful without oversharing.   Jude's message is clear: your stories are your superpower. They are what set you apart and make you memorable in the eyes of your clients. By embracing your experiences and sharing them with courage, you can create a deeper connection with your audience and drive your business forward.   So, if you're ready to harness the power of storytelling in your interior design business, make sure to follow Jude and check out his book for a roadmap to success. And remember, it's not just about the work you do; it's about who you are and the stories you tell.   Until next time, keep designing with purpose, efficiency, and passion. I'm your host, Michelle Lynn, and today we had the pleasure of diving deep into the world of interior design with the incredibly talented Nicole Hirsch, owner and principal designer of Nicole Hirsch Interiors.   Nicole shared her journey from a marketing background to establishing her own successful design firm, emphasizing the importance of business acumen in the creative industry. We explored the intricacies of interior design, from the initial client conversations to the final install day, and Nicole generously offered insights into her meticulous process that ensures each project is executed with precision and passion.   We discussed the challenges of managing client expectations, the significance of communication, and the value of trusted partnerships with vendors and tradespeople. Nicole highlighted the critical role of receivers in the design process and how they contribute to the seamless realization of a designer's vision.   Our conversation also touched on the importance of scale in design, the strategy behind custom furniture, and the excitement of presentation days. Nicole candidly shared the less glamorous aspects of the job, like chasing down furniture orders and navigating the occasional bumps in the road. Nicole's approach to design is not just about aesthetics; it's about creating a seamless experience for her clients, which is evident in her commitment to transparency and problem-solving.   Her firm's focus on large-scale, full-home projects has set them apart in the New England design scene, and their work has been recognized in prestigious publications, further solidifying their reputation in the industry. 132. Design Disasters: Responding to Negative Reviews with Michelle Lynne

132. Design Disasters: Responding to Negative Reviews with Michelle Lynne

Hey there, Design for the Creative Mind family! It's your host, Michelle Lynne, back with another episode that's sure to resonate with many of you. Today, we're diving into a topic that can be a thorn in the side of any business owner: negative reviews. But don't worry, I'm here to share some personal stories and strategies on how to handle them with grace and maintain your integrity.   In this episode, I recount a recent encounter with a negative review from a client I worked with nearly a decade ago. Yes, you heard that right—10 years ago! This client, let's call her Karen (because, well, that's her name), decided to take to the Nextdoor app to share her dissatisfaction. Despite the fact that we had resolved the issue privately all those years ago, Karen felt the need to warn others about my business.   I know how it feels to see your business's name dragged through the mud, especially when you've poured your heart and soul into it. But here's the thing—I want to show you how to respond to these situations without fear and without compromising your values. It's all about taking the high road, addressing the issue head-on, and offering to continue the conversation privately if necessary.   I also touch on the importance of having solid processes in place to avoid these kinds of client issues in the first place. That's something I teach in my Interior Design Business Bakery program, which is designed to help you run your business smoothly and avoid the sticky situations that can lead to negative reviews.   So, if you've ever faced a less-than-stellar review or you're worried about getting one in the future, this episode is for you. I'll walk you through how to handle it with your head held high and your business reputation intact. And remember, it's not about living in fear—it's about being prepared and knowing how to navigate the choppy waters of client relations with confidence.   Don't forget to check out the Interior Design Business Bakery for more tips on running a successful and organized design business. And if you've enjoyed this episode, I'd be over the moon if you could leave a positive review wherever you tune in to your podcasts. Let's keep elevating our industry together!   Until next time, live abundantly and be your amazing self. 130. Marketing and Business Strategies for Interior Designers with Jacqueline Green

130. Marketing and Business Strategies for Interior Designers with Jacqueline Green

Welcome back to another episode of Design for the Creative Mind, where we dive into the business side of interior design. In this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Jacqueline Green, the CEO of Behind the Design.   Jacqueline shared her journey from a seasoned commercial interior designer and former college instructor to a marketing and education expert for the design community. She talks about the importance of not just being a great designer but also being a savvy business owner. One key point discussed is the need for consistency in marketing efforts. Jacqueline highlights the challenge that many designers face when they become busy with client work and neglect their marketing efforts.   She stresses the importance of maintaining a consistent presence in front of the target audience to attract new clients and build brand recognition. We chat about email marketing, which she believes is one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with prospects and nurture them until they are ready to make a purchase.   Jacqueline recommends setting up a system for regular email communication, whether it's weekly or at another frequency that works for the business. By providing valuable content and resources through email, designers can establish themselves as experts and build trust with their audience.   Another aspect of marketing discussed in the episode is the power of referrals and strategic partnerships. Jacqueline encourages designers to network and build relationships with contractors, real estate brokers, and other professionals in the industry. These strategic partnerships can lead to referrals and word-of-mouth marketing, which can be highly effective in attracting new clients.   The episode also touches on the importance of having a strong online presence, particularly through a well-designed and informative website. Jacqueline emphasizes that a website serves as the foundation of a designer's business and is often the first point of contact for potential clients. It should reflect the designer's unique brand and personality and provide valuable information to visitors.   Developing systems and processes is crucial for scalability and growth in any business, including interior designers. One of the main reasons why systems and processes are important is that they allow for consistency. Consistency is key in marketing and delivering design services. By having established systems and processes, designers can ensure that they consistently deliver high-quality work and maintain a consistent brand image.   This consistency helps build trust with clients and establishes a strong reputation in the industry. Systems and processes also help streamline operations and increase efficiency. By having clear workflows and standardized procedures, designers can save time and avoid unnecessary mistakes. This allows them to focus on their core tasks and provide better service to their clients. Additionally, having systems in place makes it easier to delegate tasks and train new team members, which is essential for scaling a business. When it comes to personal branding,   Jacqueline highlights the need for designers to differentiate themselves from others in the industry. She encourages designers to showcase their authentic selves and share their design style and expertise with their audience. By doing so, designers can establish a strong personal brand that resonates with their target market. Personal branding and authenticity go hand in hand.   Designers need to understand their unique value proposition and communicate it effectively to their audience. This involves identifying their strengths, passions, and design philosophy and incorporating them into their branding strategy.   Jacqueline's passion for teaching and helping designers grow their businesses was evident throughout our conversation. Her company offers both courses for those who prefer the DIY approach and full marketing services for those ready to outsource.   For more insights and resources from Jacqueline, visit BehindTheDesignCo.com you can also follow her on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacquelinereed/  or on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/behindthedesignco/   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery  Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates. 129. The Rule of 26 with Michael Buzinski

In this episode of Design for the Creative Mind, I had the pleasure of speaking with Michael Buzinski, affectionately known as Buzz, a US Air Force veteran, serial entrepreneur, international speaker, and best-selling author. Buzz shared his expertise on digital marketing for small businesses, particularly focusing on his innovative Rule of 26, which aims to double a company's revenue by increasing three key performance indicators (KPIs) by 26%.   Buzz explained that during the pandemic, he recognized the need for a simplified marketing approach to help small and micro-businesses, like interior designers, thrive. He identified three KPIs that directly affect revenue: website traffic, conversion rates, and average revenue per client (ARPC). By increasing each of these by 26%, businesses can potentially double their revenue.   We delved into the importance of a well-crafted website that not only showcases a portfolio but also filters out clients who aren't the right fit. Buzz emphasized the value of storytelling and creating an experience that resonates with potential clients, leading to higher engagement and conversion. Additionally, Buzz offered tactical advice on generating traffic through social media groups, strategic partnerships, and targeted advertising.   He stressed the importance of diversifying marketing efforts and continuously testing different strategies to avoid reliance on a single source of leads. As a special offer to our listeners, Buzz is giving away free copies of his book, "The Rule of 26," which can be claimed at ruleoftwo6.com. Note: Buzz's book and the text number for business tips are mentioned as resources for listeners, and these details are included in the show notes for easy access.   Connect with Michael:  Get the book here: https://ruleof26.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelbuzinski/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michael.buzinski/ Facebook: https://www.instagram.com/michael.buzinski/     Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. 122. From Jobby to Design Firm; The Business of Building Your Business with Katie Decker Erickson

122. From Jobby to Design Firm; The Business of Building Your Business with Katie Decker Erickson

In this episode I am thrilled to introduce you to Katie Decker Erickson, a powerhouse in the world of interior design and business.  Katie  has not only earned her MBA but has spent nearly two decades building a multi-million dollar interior design firm that operates in over 20 states and she is sharing with us what things have been the most helpful for her as she has built her business.  In our conversation, Katie  shares her fearless approach to starting her design business. She emphasizes the importance of not succumbing to the fear of perfection and how overthinking can lead to analysis paralysis. Drawing from her own experience, Katie  highlights the value of taking action, even if it means starting with just a cardboard box and a few fan decks (which is exactly what she did starting out).  We delve into the challenges of striving for perfection and the wisdom behind the 80/20 rule—acknowledging that achieving 80% success is often enough to call it a win. Katie's perspective on starting before you feel ready is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and a lesson for anyone hesitating to take the first step. On your journey as a business owner it is important that you learn to embrace imperfection and how a "Done is better than perfect" attitude is key for being able to get things done in business. It’s  important to learn through action, tweaking, and iterating along the way. Everyone starts somewhere, and the key is to get started. We touch on the significance of building a strong team, with Katie crediting her team for the exponential growth of her firm. And talk about how important team, processes and systems are to being a CEO that is not needed in the daily ins and outs of your business. Thank you for tuning into this episode, I hope I encouraged you to take action, build your team and systems and that you are inspired by listening to Katie’s journey and know that it is possible for you with the right mindset and support!    Meet our guest Katie Decker-Erickson: Katie began her career in commercial color consulting as a part-time passion project in 2007. Today, her company, Color Works has grown into a multi-million dollar commercial design company, currently operating in over 20 states nationwide, with a fully remote team of more than a dozen individuals. Katie is known for her business acumen (having grown 1500% in a single year), passion for teaching others (with 18 years teaching undergraduate courses), devotion to her two young daughters, and commitment to women/s empowerment both personally and professionally.    Connect with Katie here:  Website:  https://colorworks.coach  LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/deckerkatie/ IG:  https://www.instagram.com/colorworks.coach/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/colorworkscoaching  Youtube: https://youtube.com/@ColorfulConversations   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. 121. Evolving As A Leader In Your Design Business

121. Evolving As A Leader In Your Design Business

In this episode I’m diving into a topic that's close to my heart - leadership. Whether you're leading a team or going solo, leadership is the key to unlocking freedom in your interior design business, and how you are as a leader is crucial to your team and business success.  I share my journey, starting from managing tables in a restaurant at 23 to running my own interior design business. Leadership became essential when I realized I couldn't do it all alone.I had to learn the delicate balance of setting high standards for your team while recognizing and celebrating milestones along the way. It's not just about the destination; the journey matters too. Whether you have one team member or ten, treat them as collaborators. It's not about hierarchy; it's about working together towards a common goal. Leading a team requires clear communication, accountability and understanding that everyone thinks differently. Be open to learning from your team while teaching them, creating a reciprocal environment where iron sharpens iron. Being a leader isn't about being perfect; it's about inspiring greatness in those around you. As an entrepreneur, you already have greatness within you. Step into that role and share it with others. Thank you for tuning into this episode, I hope I encouraged you to step fully into the leader you need to be for your team and that you’ve got some great tips to take with you and start implementing right away.    Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text UPDATES to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates. 120. The Importance Of Client Education

120. The Importance Of Client Education

In this episode, we dive into the heart of client education, specifically in the context of project financials and client sourcing.  We've all seen those design forums filled with pricing struggles and client shopping stories. Today, let's break down the myth and find a solution. The truth of the matter is—clients aren't jerks; they're often just uninformed. Time to shift your perspective from frustration to education. Once you learn how to weave client education into your conversations and even into your contracts, you will find that your clients will respect how you run your business and will be less likely to “shop you” or ask for discounts.  Educate your clients on the behind-the-scenes work. There is so much more that goes into designing a room than they know, they don’t understand what it takes to pull a design together but you do, it’s your job to communicate that and the value that you bring.  You're not just creating spaces; you're crafting experiences, you are turning houses into homes. You have to believe in the value that you bring to the project beyond a dollar per hour. Your skills and creativity are unparalleled – don't undersell them.  Take a moment after this episode and list out the intricate steps involved in designing a single room. Recognize the value in your process—it's a journey, not just a result. Remember, you're not just designing spaces; you're curating an environment. Embrace the process, communicate your value, and watch how smooth your client experience will be. .  Thank you for tuning into this episode, I hope I encouraged you to be more bold in your client education and the value you bring to the project.    To register for the Rolling In The Dough workshop referenced in this episode visit: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/workshop   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text UPDATES to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates. 117. Dealing with Unexpected Business Challenges

117. Dealing with Unexpected Business Challenges

In this episode, I am taking you on a journey through some challenging times in my business this year, and shedding some light on how to face unexpected situations and overcome fear. From a contractor mishap to personal health issues and team betrayals, I am sharing valuable insights that can help you navigate tough seasons in your business.   How you deal with these disappointments is a key indicator to your long term success in business. Having mental fortitude is key. When the unexpected happens, it elicits fear. Our first response may be to run away and hide and say “forget it”.  It's okay to feel overwhelmed, stressed, or even want to escape but it’s important to honor your feelings and emotions during these tough times. And it’s okay to rest and take some time to process your emotions if that is what is needed.    To move through these times you must look back at the excuses you made for yourself or others during difficult situations and take ownership of your role. Acknowledge the reality of the situation and get real about if it is as dire as it initially seems. Realize that the actions of others, such as team members or contractors, are not a reflection of you but rather their own choices.   You can learn from my experience that betrayal and challenging moments in business are rarely about you personally and people often make decisions based on their own self-interest or needs. Don't take it personally; it's about them. Remember that everyone makes mistakes and bad decisions. You can allow yourself to give grace to others, as you would want for yourself.   This podcast episode serves as a reminder that mental fortitude is crucial in business, and how you choose to react to adversity can greatly impact your long-term success. Embrace your emotions, face reality, and keep moving forward with a focus on your business and your well-being.   Thank you for tuning in to this episode. 110. How Did We Get Here?

110. How Did We Get Here?

Welcome back! I took a short break from the podcast in order to re-evaluate and strategize a strong way forward, and now I’m back!  If you’re a small business owner in the design industry that wants to get over the 6-figure hump, take home a nice profit and find your passion about work again, you’re in the right place. In this episode, I’ll go through my story from corporate, to a puddle of tears on the floor, through to building a smoothly running design firm and discovering the need for guidance and support for other moms that want to build their own design firm.    It would be very much appreciated if you would leave a rating and review wherever you listen to podcasts. It really helps to keep the show relevant, and I would love to come back to see some of your kind words. Enjoy your summer, and take some breathing time for yourself too!   Michelle Lynne began her interior design career after spending more than two decades working in Corporate America. She began in the home staging arena and has since built a successful, award-winning, full-service interior design firm, employing talented designers and serving clients across the country.   In the summer of 2018, Michelle began focusing on a big gap she saw missing in the interior design industry: teaching interior designers how to run the business of an interior design business. She now engages in private coaching and leads an in-depth, 12-month group coaching program, both options focus on teaching designers profitable processes, systems, strategies, and mindset needed to run a streamlined, profitable interior design firm.   Her motto is simple: we rise by lifting others.   Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery    Text UPDATES to 855-784-8299 for all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE.
