Honoring a Mothers Legacy
Richard Perkins Hsung was born in China in 1966 and was one of the first teens to leave China legally after Mao’s Cultural Revolution. He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago and became a professor at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, retiring in 2022. He spent ten years editing and completing Spring Flower (Earnshaw Books) by his mother, Jean Tren-Hwa Perkins, MD. The three-volume memoir chronicles her life as an adopted child of American medical missionaries, survivor of China's brutal communist regime, ophthalmologist, immigrant, and mother. Hsung lives in Madison with his wife, where keeping squirrels from digging up his backyard has become a daily scientific obsession. Learn more at Yangtze River by the Hudson Bay

Father and son team up-Author and Narrator -William J. Carl and son, David Carl - Part 2
Father and son team up- Author and Narrator - William J. Carl, a Greek scholar, was a pastor and seminary professor then president for decades, living a life that served peace, faith, and society. He wrote 8 successful non-fiction books about religion, and traveled the world, lecturing at prestigious schools and being honored by his alma mater. But now he has left that behind to become an author of a suspenseful, action-packed,international thriller about a one-time CIA assassin who left his trade to become a minister –only to be called upon to return to his old life to uncover and stop a global terrorist plot.
Assassin’s Manuscript has been hailed in scores of five-star Amazon and Goodreads book reviews as the next Dan Brown or Daniel Silva, two best-selling authors who know how to hold readers in suspense. One of the reasons the book has received these positive reactions is its attention to detail. For instance, he traveled to seven countries that are featured in the book to do research and observe the people, hoping to make it as realistic as possible. He went to Israel, Russia, Italy, Germany, Egypt, England, and Canada.
He also needed to get in touch with what allows real-life hitmen to kill people. So, he ended up meeting and interviewing several assassins.
30 years after Alex Haley told Dr. Carl to write this book he has graced us with Assassins Manuscript.
David Carl is an actor/writer/impressionist/solo-performer, known for solo shows like "David Carl's Celebrity One-Man Hamlet" (www.buseyhamlet.com) and "Trump Lear": two shows that he has taken to Edinburgh Fringe (Underbelly Cowgate and Pleasance Courtyard) and all over the United States including Chicago Shakespeare Theater with Michole Biancosino (frequent collaborator and friend). The New York Times called his Busey Hamlet a "deliciously deranged...head-spinning performance" and his Trump Lear "quite damning" and "a biting satire".
TV Film Credits include: George Clooney’s The Tender Bar in a scene with Ben Afleck, and the recurring role of Teddy the Cue Card Guy on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon). Other credits include Mr Robot (USA), Divorce (HBO), Blue Bloods (CBS), and The Big Fib (Disney Plus).
In addition to narrating Assassin's Manuscript by William J Carl (his Dad...proud son alert), David has also voiced multiple characters of other Audible projects such as The Coldest Case and Daniel X by James Patterson, and 10 Days, Yes We Mustard, and Supreme: The Battle for Roe. He has also voiced characters for two Marvel podcasts called Marvels and Wolverine Lost Trail.

Guest: Bob Burnett - Cisco Internet Founder-Author Death is Potential Book 2 of the Kate Swift Series.
Bob Burnett is a founder of Cisco Systems and has participated in many retreats at the famed Institute. While the events portrayed at Satori are completely fictional, Burnett drew on his experiences there to create incredibly realistic portrayals of what it is like to spend time at such a retreat and the kinds of deep friendships that can be forged by engaging in a group therapy session. His many years working in Silicon Valley, from its infancy in the 1960’s through the late 1980’s, when he finally stepped away from his work as a tech executive, also helped him capture a realistic portrayal of the Silicon Valley community.
Finally, one of Burnett’s earliest jobs-before he ever worked in computers-was as a probation officer in Orange County and that helped him formulate his portrayals of Federal Marshal Kate Swift and the other law enforcement officers depicted in the book. Burnett now lives in Northern CA, not far from Napa Valley. Raised as a Quaker, Burnett has also worked as a political activist over the years and has published many political columns in outlets such as The Huffington Post, In These Times and more. This is his first novel.
