Episode 75 - Moon Knight - Last Days of Moon Knight We have known this day was coming, but it still seems like it snuck up on me.  Issue 30 of Moon Knight came out this past Wednesday, meaning that we not only got the final issue of this run, but also saw the Last Days of Moon Knight come to a close with him suffering a fiery and heroic death.  **Spoiler Warning** This Week's Stack Moon Knight (2021-2023) #25-30 Issue Recaps and Discussion Topics Moon Knight (2021-2023) #25-30 25 - 72 pages of NEW story. Frustratingly expensive for an in-series issue 26 - We learn Badr's first name: Yehya. Also, His last resurrection went badly, and he is losing control, with the “chorus” of Fists past taking control of him occasionally 27 - This is a comic book way for the hero to get much needed information about the villian 28 - 8-Ball a key member of the team? 29 - Lot of action. MK beats one Black Spectre but another reveals himself, shoots Marc and shows himself to be someone we know 30 - Marc saves the day, but pays the price Moon Knight goes from featuring many people in one body to featuring many bodies to represent one hero. Is 8-Ball really a good guy now? Is Zodiac actually now the big bad? Closure upon closure Cappuccio finishes the run in style Where is this run in the history of Moon Knight? Episode 74 - Moon Knight - City of the Dead This week we are continue our look at recent Moon Knight series.  First up we dive into issues number 21-24 of the currently Moon Knight comic, and then its on to the 5-issue limited series City of the Dead, where we see the comic debut of a character fans of the TV show are already very familiar with.  This Week's Stack Moon Knight (2021-2023) #21-24 Moon Knight: City of the Dead (2023) #1-5 Issue Recaps and Discussion Topics Moon Knight (2021-2023) #21-24 21 - The Reese issue (with a Jake cameo)  22 - Follow the money  22 - This is when he’s happy  23 - Resolution through non-violence  24 - Morpheus enters The Big Sleep courtesy of Black Spectre  24 – He tries to give Mark, Steven and Jake some peace before he goes Moon Knight: City of the Dead (2023) #1-5 Cross-pollination – New characters starting in TV or movies and then making the jump to comics is still unusual, but is happening more.    This feels very much like something Doug Moench might have written.  Reminds me a bit of Vol 3’s “The Resurrection War.”  See our PotMK episode entitled “It Turns Out He Was Only Mostly Dead” for more on that.  A lot of character narration over the action. Characters introduced themselves every issue.  Do all faiths end up in the Duat in the Marvel universe?  This I do not understand.  It also seems weird that there are cars and modern cities.    This is a bit of a “greatest hits” album, bringing back almost all of MKs old foes – or at least the truly villainous ones.  No Scarlett, for instance. Legion of the Unliving is quite the name.  It’s always Randall when you least expect it!  We have a Khonshu sighting  Also is a bit weird, in that it finishes with Layla saying “Be Seeing you, Marc.”  Will she??  On Earth?  Or back in the Duat?  I think Lyla is back on earth. Lila Cheney!  Has been around for decades.  Started in New Mutants. The prince is a bit of a two-dimensional character. Episode 06 The Sage of Arthur Harrow About a year after the end of Moon Knight Vol. 1. our hero got a second chance to headline his own series.  Moon Knight Volume 2 from 1985 changes the character's powers and costume, and radically alters his world.  The second issue of the series is also the first - and so far the only - appearance of Dr. Arthur Harrow.  With Harrow set to be a major character in the Moon Knight Disney+ show, Dan and Duane give you a better idea of what clues these comics may hold for the show. We also talk about what breakdowns and finishes are, we look at a few issues of Marvel Fanfare that featured Moon Knight, and Dan begins to suspect that Disney perhaps is not being entirely truthful with us about Ethan Hawke's character... Episode 05 Moon Knight After Moench and Sienkiewicz This week we are going to dig into the final issues of Moon Knight Volume 1, which were published in 1983 and 1984.  This week sees both Bill Sienkiewicz and Doug Moench move on from the title, after which a rotating cast of writers and artists bring Moon Knight’s first volume to a close.  Our hero faces off against bad cops, teen hoodlums, and a homicidal teenage ballerina, and then flies off into the sunset (temporarily) as volume one winds down.  Along the way we talk about team-ups, EC Comics, and what it means when a comic you enjoy is cancelled. Episode 06 Direct Market Madness! This week we are going to dig into the middle issues of Moon Knight Volume 1, which were published in 1981-1982.   Moon Knight defeats a guy dressed as a rat, Marlene becomes a bikini-clad bodyguard to a terrorist leader, and Morpheus and Scarlet return. We also talk about the Khonshu-themed backups and ponder why Moon Knight's villains are so prone to lethal accidents.  Along the way Duane lets on that he really, really dislikes issues #17-20, and Dan tells us why he thinks that issue #26 is one of the best Moon Knight stories ever printed. Ends up as a potential love interest of Mar-Vell, much like Lois Lane was to Superman at the time. Ms. Marvel #1 Carol’s new look and attitude very much based on Gloria Steinem, who also co-founded Ms. Magazine (featuring Wonder Woman on the first issue).  The callback to 1940s Captain Marvel was a nice touch  Quickly got her memory issues sorted out.  Changed costume in #19.  Series ended with #23.  Spider-Man and Mary Jane cameos  Duane is not a fan of the black-outs and how this story hints at what is obviously going on.  Avengers #200   Lots of writers and yet... Super messed up. Very weird and sexist. No idea what the writers were trying to accomplish, but nothing about this story sat right. Almost immediately this story was recognized to be super messed up. Chris Claremont tried to fix things a bit in Avengers Annual #10 by giving Carol a chance to lay into the team Uncanny X-Men #164  The Brood are the worst.  Look very much like the alien from Alien or the Gorn on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds New powers are radiation based, and are top-notch.  Makes her one of the most powerful people in the Marvel Universe.  Had been with the X-Men since Prof X helped her get her memories back Captain Marvel (2012) #1-6  Saved the best for last Standing on the shoulders of two giants - the previous Captain Marvels and earlier female pilots  Ultimately Danvers herself gets to decide if she wants to keep the life she has (with powers) or change her fate and go without.
