Indie Comics Spotlight: Pulp AND History of Violence

Comics in Motion is proud to partner with Lenovations Press! Check out their high quality independent comics here.  However, before the show starts, there is a quick promo for an awesome kickstarter from G.E. Gallas. Follow her on Instagram and Twitter and support her kickstarter. This week, Tony welcomes back man whose middle name might legally be changed to podcaster, Dave Horrocks. Co-Founder of the Comics in Motion network.  This week, the go deep into TWO books on one show. First up: A History of Violence (Click here for the movie review with Chris and Dave) John Wagner, Vince Locke It's just another quiet day in small-town, USA, until a couple of wanted killers walk into Tom McKenna's diner looking for trouble. When Tom gives them more than they bargained for, he and his family are thrust into the kind of white-hot media spotlight that attracts a lot of attention - and questions about Tom's past. ls he really an easygoing small town guy, or is there something more? AND Pulp Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips (Artist), Jacob Phillips (Colors) A gorgeous original graphic novel from the best-selling creators of Kill Or Be Killed, My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies and Criminal. Max Winters, a pulp writer in 1930s New York, finds himself drawn into a story not unlike the tales he churns out at 5 cents a word - tales of a wild west outlaw dispensing justice with a six-gun. But will Max be able to do the same, when pursued by bank robbers, Nazi spies, and enemies from his past? One part thriller, one part meditation on a life of violence, Pulp is unlike anything the award-winning team of Brubaker and Phillips have ever done. A celebration of pulp fiction, set in a world on the brink. And another must-have hardback from one of comics most-acclaimed teams. (less) Comics in Motion is now a Humble Bundle Partner. Indie Comics Spotlight: Delicates with Brenna Thummler

Comics in Motion is proud to partner with Lenovations Press! Check out their high quality independent comics here. This Week, Tony is joined by writer, artist, creator and all around talented person, Brenna Thummler to talk about her forthcoming book Delicates, a sequel to the spectacular, best selling book Ghosts. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram. SYNOPSIS of Delicates Marjorie Glatt's life hasn't been the same ever since she discovered a group of ghosts hiding in her family's laundromat. Wendell, who died young and now must wander the earth as a ghost with nothing more than a sheet for a body, soon became one of Marjorie's only friends. But when Marjorie finally gets accepted by the popular kids at school, she begins to worry that if anyone learns about her secret ghost friends, she'll be labeled as a freak who sees dead people. With Marjorie's insistence on keeping Wendell's ghost identity a secret from her new friends, Wendell begins to feel even more invisible than he already is. Eliza Duncan feels invisible, too. She's an avid photographer, and her zealous interest in finding and photographing ghosts gets her labeled as different by all the other kids in school. Constantly on the outside, Eliza begins to feel like a ghost herself. Marjorie must soon come to terms with the price she pays to be accepted by the popular kids. Is it worth losing her friend Wendell? Is she partially to blame for the bullying Eliza endures?  Following the events of Sheets, Brenna Thummler's second original graphic novel, Delicates, tells a powerful story about what it means to fit in, and those who are left on the outside. It shows what it's like to feel invisible, and the importance of feeling seen. Above all, it is a story of asking for help when all seems dark, and bringing light to those who need it most. https://www.brennathummler.com/ If you want to talk with Tony about comics or to suggest any future shows, please connect with him on Twitter @Tricycleboombox.
