TV & Movie Reviews: Road to Perdition (2002) Chris’ picks this week, we go back to 2002 and the Tom Hanks lead Gangster movie Road to Perdition. Based on a comic book run made by Paradox Press so perfect choice for this week. Plot Summary: It is the year 1931. Mike Sullivan is a henchman of southern Illinois crime boss John Rooney. Having taken Sullivan under his wing as as orphan, Rooney's paternal affections for him are greater than for his son and heir, Connor Rooney, who is a violent and dangerous man. Sullivan's eldest son Michael, who is curious about his mysterious father, inadvertently witnesses a mob hit that is carried out by his father and Connor. Michael is caught and sworn to secrecy but Connor views him as a loose end. This puts Sullivan at odds with Rooney who is forced to side with his son, making Sullivan an enemy of the mob. This week, Mike tackles the 6-part mini-series Target Vader, where a group of bounty hunters are hired by the mysterious Hidden Hand to take down Darth Vader! In addition to some very cool Vader moments, a bounty hunter team (including Dengar) is put together, the rebellion gets involved and Beilert Valance gets his full back-story flushed out, including his homeworld Chorin! This story is set after A New Hope and before Empire Strikes Back so is between 0-3 ABY. All issues of Target Vader were written by Robbie Thompson. The many artists were; Marc Laming, Cris Bolson, Stefano Landini, Marco Failla, Roberto Di Salvo and Georges Duarte. The many colour artists were; Neeraj Menon, Rachelle Roseberg, Jordan Boyd, Andres Mossa, Federico Blee, Erick Arciniega and Giada Marchisio. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram. SYNOPSIS of Delicates Marjorie Glatt's life hasn't been the same ever since she discovered a group of ghosts hiding in her family's laundromat. Wendell, who died young and now must wander the earth as a ghost with nothing more than a sheet for a body, soon became one of Marjorie's only friends. But when Marjorie finally gets accepted by the popular kids at school, she begins to worry that if anyone learns about her secret ghost friends, she'll be labeled as a freak who sees dead people. With Marjorie's insistence on keeping Wendell's ghost identity a secret from her new friends, Wendell begins to feel even more invisible than he already is. Eliza Duncan feels invisible, too. She's an avid photographer, and her zealous interest in finding and photographing ghosts gets her labeled as different by all the other kids in school. Constantly on the outside, Eliza begins to feel like a ghost herself. Marjorie must soon come to terms with the price she pays to be accepted by the popular kids. This week Mike is doing a book review on Charles Soule’s Light Of The Jedi as well as giving an overview in the new era of Star Wars; The High Republic! For more detail, for the first 20 minutes, Mike gives some information on The High Republic era (set 200 years before The Phantom Menace) before delving into the review - his reviews are split into 3 parts; the first is completely spoiler free, with some vague information on the book’s themes, vehicles & etc while the second will have some very light spoilers, plot details and character information with the last part giving more information about certain aspects and Mike reads out a single page that he believes give a good insight into the book as a whole, but for clarity, he does not spoil the story or what happens to any characters in this recording. Does one of his bigger movies still stand up? Plot Summary: When the ability to travel through time is perfected, a new type of law enforcement agency is formed. It's called Time Enforcement Commission or TEC. A cop, Max Walker, is assigned to the group. On the day he was chosen, some men attack him and kill his wife. This week features the 5-part mini-series TIE Fighter, created as a tie-in for the Alphabet Squadron novels, following a group of Imperial pilots attempt to rescue a star destroyer, uncover a traitor and have multiple flashbacks all while trying to not get killed in the process! All 5 comics were written by Jody Houser, with the artists being; Rogê Antônio, Joshua Cassara, Geraldo Borges, Ig Guara & Juan Gedeon, along with the colour artists; Arif Prianto, Lee Loughridge, Neeraj Monin, Jean-François Beaulieu & Dono Sánchez-Almara. The issue 1 was released April 2019, issue 6 was out August 2019 and the trade paperback collection was out October 2019. In the last episode of SWCIC (episode 44), Mike tackled the Rogue One “sequel” arc from the main run of Star Wars comics called The Ashes Of Jedha, which features Luke searching for further lessons from the Force, Leia & Han travelling to (what’s left of) Jedha to meet with the remaining of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans, including “Two-Tubes” (Benthic), while Queen Trios & Commander Kamchar continue to decimate the Jedha for its resources!
