Dr Analisa Arosemena is an outstanding surgeon specializing in glaucoma surgery and very challenging cataract cases. She has an incredible energy and on the podium she is a natural key opinion leader. In this hour long podcast, I learned so much about her approach to treating glaucoma including offering the full spectrum of options. After a year treating underserved populations in Panama, she moved to Florida in 2006, where she found the perfect balance between a challenging ophthalmology practice and indulging in her passion for outdoor activities such as scuba diving. Embracing new technologies and techniques, she has successfully performed over 30,000 cases of glaucoma, cornea, and complex cataract surgeries.

50: CataractCoach Podcast 50: Firas Rahhal MD
Firas Rahhal MD is a vitreo-retinal surgeon in Los Angeles who has a deep expertise in clinical trials, particularly for posterior segment disease. Like many of us, he used to lend his expertise to investment firms as they sought to invest in the ophthalmology space. More than a decade ago he realized that instead of giving away such precious knowledge for an hourly rate, it was better to become the investor and ExSight Ventures VC fund was created. As ophthalmologists we have a deep and profound understanding of everything related to the eye and it is logical for us to invest in the future of ophthalmology.
Full disclosure: I am personally invested with ExSight Ventures and I have had a great experience working with their team. The link https://www.exsightventures.com/uday is only for tabulation and does not drive any referral fees to me or CataractCoach. Dr Johnny Gayton has an incredible drive and passion which he combines with persistent hard work to truly excel at many fields. He is a true pioneer in cataract surgery and he shared his techniques of piggyback IOLs, lensectomy for treatment of narrow angles, and moving from superior to temporal incisions. He is proof positive that a great work ethic and strong determination are the keys to success. He applied those same principles to become a world class powerlifter in his 50s and then a professional wrestler. I looked up his official bench press record and it is truly outstanding at more than 315 pounds (143 kg) which is 3 plates per side on the Olympic bar set up. For reference, I've been lifting weights my entire adult life and I don't ever bench more than 2 plates per side (225 pounds = 100 kg). In a word, Johnny is amazing and this podcast is on another level: educational, entertaining, and inspiring.
