I seek it out from different sources for news, now primarily non-Canadian. I have a basket of news sources I use to develop a world view. You might think it veers left or right, depending. Make your own! But make sure your sources are truly mixed for the broadest but deepest multifaceted view of the world. Also, avoid marmot videos on Reels or TkTok. It's a trap. They are not showing you the dark side: the marmot bites that will require hundreds of thousands of dollars in remedial cosmetic surgery. This episode is all over the place. You have to pay social media platforms to reach even your own your followers now. There is no chance of virality, unless you pay for it. Google's indexing changes mean your work will never be discovered unless you buy advertising. What is an artist to do? Submit your work to open calls? Those galleries have the exact same problem you do: getting reach. Ask them how much advertising they will buy to promote your show if you are picked, because they'll have to. Google claims it will still provide referral links to content providers, but the smartest tech reporters on the planet don't believe this for a second, and neither should we. I will be talking about the technical aspects and complexities of photographic film digitization on today's show. On Monday April 22 I'm launching an indiegogo campaign called PRESERVE THE BEAT to raise the funds to digitize the massive TRIBE MAGAZINE photographic archive. It's a huge job: there are over 10,000 images as slides and negatives in the collection. There is nothing like this collection in the world. It's nearly a complete look at Canadian electronic music & DJ culture, from the inside, from a time before smartphones. It's the record of a lost civilization, the birth of digital music, and the story of electronic music in Canada. But more than that, it's our family pictures. And you might be in them too if you went to a rave or warehouse party back in the day! Digitizing these images will facilitate the publication of books, documentary films, gallery shows, and online galleries, and their eventual bequeath-al to three large Canadian art entities, for archival preservation. I want to cement our culture into Canada's historical record because I think Canadians of the future may need to see it for authentic hope and inspiration. I need your help! Either the star looks great and the jewelry looks bad, or the jewelry looks fabulous and the star looks like they've been painted with a paint roller. Why can't these big brands optimize their product imagery to at least match across their platform channels? Why? I look at the performance of Tiffany and Boucheron from a marketing perspective to access the efficacy of their Oscar 2024 campaigns based on their public facing marketing efforts. Bad light, bad photo editing, no co-ordination between corporate divisions is a recipe for waste, and it is on full display at the Oscars. The press page on the Tiffany domain hasn't been updated since November 2023. You've already forgotten what brand of jewelry Zendaya was wearing on the red carpet, haven't you? Why are these brands spending huge money on stars when they don't even use the resulting images? What's the point? I think this type of marketing doesn't make sense anymore. Being a small and nimble designer has its advantages.
