Kelly Favro's Story—Part 1
Content warning: This series includes graphic descriptions of sexual violence. If you or anyone you know is experiencing sexual violence and abuse, help is available. Please see resources below.Victoria, British Columbia[Part 1 of 2] In this two-part series, we explore Kelly Favro's harrowing journey from surviving a two-hour sexual assault to becoming the first person in British Columbia to have a publication ban removed from her name - by herself.Publication bans are routinely ordered to protect the privacy of vulnerable participants in the criminal justice system. But in the case of sexual assault complainants, what if they didn’t actually consent to the publication ban? What if they don’t want it?What happens when publication bans backfire?Along the way, Kelly met many other sexual assault survivors and learned that she was not alone. You’ll also hear the stories of Jade Neilson and Samantha Geiger, two survivors who discovered publication bans had been put on their names without their consent, and how it impacted them in completely separate but negative ways.It all culminated in a trip to Parliament Hill in Ottawa to fight for changes.--------------------------------Special thanks to Kelly Favro. Please help sexual assault survivors Sign the petition now to give victim-complainants more agency and choice when it comes to publication bans on their names.Eligibility: Citizens and residents of Canada are eligible to sign the petitionDeadline: 9am EST on March 10th, 2023Follow on twitter: @AmendPubBanLaws More information:See the page for this episode at www.canadiantruecrime.ca/episodesResources for Sexual Violence and Abuse:REES Community - Canada Sexual Assault Centres by province or postal codeEnding Violence Canada - Sexual Assault Centres, Crisis Lines and Support ServicesListen ad-free and early:CTC premium feeds are available on Amazon Music - included with Prime, Apple Podcasts, Patreon and Supercast. The Murder of Robert LeVoir
FORT McMURRAY | In 2002, the family of 25-year-old DJ Robert LeVoir reported him missing after they hadn't heard from him for two weeks. But the RCMP didn't seem to be doing much to help, in fact they didn't publicly announce Robert's disappearance for 8 months. Understandably frustrated by the lack of progress, his family had no way of knowing that an elaborate plan to discover what had happened to Robert was already being set in motion behind closed doors. Correction note: since releasing this episode, we've been advised that Robert LeVoir's surname isn't the French pronunciation; it's instead pronounced Le-Vor. We're not able to correct all the instances of this in the episode, but our sincere apologies to anyone affected by this error.AD-FREE episodes are available via our Premium FeedsSign up via Apple Podcasts, Patreon or SupercastCredits:Research and writing: Emily G Thompson of Morbidology PodcastAdditional research and writing, sound design: Kristi LeeAudio editing and production: We Talk of DreamsProduction assistance: Jesse Hawke Theme songs by We Talk of DreamsDisclaimer voiced by the host of TrueFull list of credits and information sourcesSee the page for each episode at canadiantruecrime.ca/episodes. The Murder of Robin Greene - Part 1
[ Part 1 of 2 ]MANITOBA | In 2003, the day after Canada Day, a 33 year old man walked through the front door of the Winnipeg Remand Centre. He said he’d woken up in his hotel room and there was a dead, dismembered body in the bathtub. He insisted he blanked out and couldn’t remember committing the murder. The circumstances of the case were shocking and unbelievable enough, but within a few days a hollywood angle involving a stolen celebrity necklace ended up being the main headline. Eventually, the case caught the attention of amateur writer Dan Zupansky, who would land an opportunity that he couldn’t refuse. An opportunity to get the truth from Sydney, and get justice for Robin Greene—no matter what it took.More information:Dan Zupansky’s book: Trophy Kill: The Shall We Dance Murder by Dan ZupanskyTrue Murder podcast: https://www.blogtalkradio.com/dan-zupansky1Podcast recommendation:COMMONS: Real Estate! Thanks for supporting our sponsors!See the special offer codes here Don't like the ads?Access early episodes without the ads plus bonus content and more on Patreon and Supercast.
