Two-Headed Calf - Wasteland, literature-inspired songwriting and female-fronted bands

Two-Headed Calf’s single Wasteland, released on March 22 this year, accompanied me on a wonderful drive around its release time. An ambient synths-rock song perfect for your nightly journaling session. This April, Sarah and Katie, Two-Headed Calf, got together with me to discuss how the song came together, what it means and how it suits the Glasgow-based band’s experience of living in the city. We as well touched upon the topic of how it is to be in a female-fronted band and how male-dominated the music industry still is to this day, yes, we discussed how all boys think as soon as they have a band that they’re the next Beatles lol (no hate to John, George, Ringo and Paul - we love those boys!). Two-Headed Calf are coming back with new music (which we also discussed at the end) and exciting gigs early next year - stay tuned for that!Instagram: @twoheadedcalf__TikTok: @twoheadedcalf__There had some line-up changes since our interview, so if you hear a mention of Callum, he’s no longer in the band.Watch a clip of this interview here.Bonnie’s writing on cowboys and how the past can haunt us is available on thecrylounge.com (her books + zinepaper) 🎀 Her online diary is howdybonnie.substack.com & 🤠Enjoyed listening to this episode? Caroline Kingsbury - I Really Don't Care!, grief in songwriting and Heaven's Just A Flight

Caroline Kingsbury and I go far back, almost three years ago now we started to follow each other’s careers and I can’t express in words how much I gasped waking up one random morning earlier this year, finding out her banger of a song Kissing Someone Else got a lot of attention overnight. Heaven’s Just A Flight, her debut album from 2020, helped me through my first heartbreak and that way actually became my most streamed album on Spotify ever with 1,145 scrobbles, according to my last.fm statistics, and it sounds about right. In this episode, we go in depth of the lyrics of the songs off her newly-released EP I Really Don’t Care!, as well as her debut album. We discuss the past year that changed her career after almost giving up and how grief is the touchstone in her songwriting and it always is there, even when writing on love.Instagram: @kingsburyxxWatch a clip of this interview here.Go see her live in NYC, Chicago and early next year she’s supporting Pom Pom Squad → tickets are available here.“I Really Don’t Care!” is out now: get the vinyl here.Bonnie’s writing on cowboys and how the past can haunt us is available on thecrylounge.com (her books + zinepaper) 🎀 Her online diary is howdybonnie.substack.com & 🤠Enjoyed listening to this episode? #408: Eliza Kent - You Were the Graveyard, writing not being for mass consumption & obsessed characters

In the Summer of 2023, my friend Eliza Kent & I sat down to record this podcast episode on each other’s writing projects at the time. We’ve met around four years ago through Instagram’s wide writing community, read through each other’s novels to sending each other a poem here and there. With parallels in our creative career, we’ve witnessed each other writing & publishing each a fiction novel (Devil & A Half, Eliza Kent & It was her, Bonnie Orbison) and a poetry collection (You Were the Graveyard, Eliza Kent & Pretty Tennessee, Bonnie Orbison). We discuss how poetry isn’t made for mass consumption and cannot become the fast fashion of writing, every fictional character needs an obsession, how the genre and tone of your novel will influence your moods and how our sexuality already was mirrored in our writing, even though we still were unsure about it.Main lesson we learned from our friendship is that publishing or sharing your writing with someone is not only helping you to let go of those feelings you wrote on, but also helps you to look objectively on the entire situation.✨ Eliza can be found on Instagram as @lizalikesbugs & her books are linked above✨Enjoyed listening to this episode? Ryder The Eagle - 'Autotango', making albums as an independent artist, & introspective songwriting

This March, a week before the first single off his new album “Autotango” was released, I interviewed Ryder The Eagle for this podcast. After seeing him live opening for Oracle Sisters more than a year ago in London, I went up to him immediately, got the vinyl & asked him to be a guest in my podcast. I’ve never heard of him or his music before that night, but his performance and poetic lyricism amazed & fascinated me. What continued was me telling everyone I met and already knew about his album “Megachurch”, his talent on stage and eventually even made my friend join me seeing him live again this past month in Paris. In this episode, we discuss tracks of his new album “Autotango” such as The Fireman Is Blue, Love’s Not My Jurisdiction and The Rain In My Heart - how this time around Ryder let himself reflect on his inner thoughts and feelings whereas he always focused his music more around love - and of where his inspiration and creativity comes from.Instagram: @inlovingmemoryofryder Go see him live in Portugal, Switzerland, New York City and later this year in Australia → tickets are available here.Bonnie mentions her fiction novel It was her → you can grab a signed copy on thecrylounge.com 🎀 all her other writing can be found on howdybonnie.substack.com 🤠Enjoyed listening to this episode? #401: Isabella Ardell

Isabella Ardell is a kind and lovely legend I think everyone should invite to join their podcast for an episode. She is a magazine owner, jewelry maker and started sewing at the age of 7 (!!) In this episode, we deep dived talking about her creative path, what's her favourite part about being an artist and how moving out and adulthood as a "newbie" is hard to manage. As two publishers were at the same place, we also touched on the topic of printing, focusing on zines and books, and how important it is that artists understand and support each other as parts of society still need time getting our POV and understanding which impact they could make on an artist's life with sharing and purchasing their art. Speaking of which, you can find Isabella's jewelry, magazine issues, stickers and textiles such as tote bags, pillows & more on isabellaardell.com and you can follow her on social media @isabellaardell / @ardellmagazine and on TikTok as well :)Enjoyed listening to this episode?
