Two-Headed Calf’s single Wasteland, released on March 22 this year, accompanied me on a wonderful drive around its release time. An ambient synths-rock song perfect for your nightly journaling session. This April, Sarah and Katie, Two-Headed Calf, got together with me to discuss how the song came together, what it means and how it suits the Glasgow-based band’s experience of living in the city. We as well touched upon the topic of how it is to be in a female-fronted band and how male-dominated the music industry still is to this day, yes, we discussed how all boys think as soon as they have a band that they’re the next Beatles lol (no hate to John, George, Ringo and Paul - we love those boys!). Caroline Kingsbury and I go far back, almost three years ago now we started to follow each other’s careers and I can’t express in words how much I gasped waking up one random morning earlier this year, finding out her banger of a song Kissing Someone Else got a lot of attention overnight. In the Summer of 2023, my friend Eliza Kent & I sat down to record this podcast episode on each other’s writing projects at the time. Dafna has been an early feature back when Oh! Pretty New Music was a fresh idea out of my mind and we had talked about her song “We Jumped The Gun” (read here). Barerra is a band most people know from TikTok but honestly they deserve a way more better association than that. I've never met a more loveliest and grounded band ever. With their idea of bringing back the 60s/70s rock music, they are on the best way of becoming an admired rock band and the way they try to always do what they want and never really want to let somebody else telling them what to do is just legendary and fascinating.
